"Welcome to Akademi High. To returning students, welcome back, and to those coming here for the first time, I welcome you. I'm sure that we will have a great year together." The headmistress said through the loud speaker.

Raiden walked up to the school and listened to the announcement. Ugh, two more years of this school, then he was out. He couldn't handle all the drama that was here. 'But I love you!' This and 'BAKA!' That. All he needed to do was pass and not get expelled. "Easier said then done." He muttered to himself.

Ayako was already struggling with her locker when she heard the announcement. Great year? Sure. If you got past the delinquents and the people that seem like they would kill to get those they love. If she could just get this stupid locker open! Then she could go to the Art room and be at peace.

If anything could be said about Tatsumi Yamada, he was definitely punctual when it mattered. Thusly, it was no surprise to the Student Council President when the door to the council room slid open and the boy stepped through, even though it was early on the first day of the new school year. He greeted her with a small smile, one she happily returned, before the two set to work preparing paperwork for the busy day ahead.

They hadn't been working for long, maybe an hour or so, before the headmistress gave her address to the student body, but Tatsumi nevertheless rose from his seat to fulfil one his duties as Vice-President, namely assisting the new first-year students with any queries or difficulties they might be having with regards to the school. He rolled his shoulders, sighing contently as he worked out the stiffness of the work he had done thus far.

"I'm going to check on the other students, is that okay Kaichou?"

Receiving a smile and a nod in affirmative, he grabbed his schoolbag and the weapon wrapped in a bokken bag and began to wander the halls, checking in with the first years and helping out where he could. As he passed the lockers, however, a metal rattling caught his attention and he stopped walking, instead pausing to look in the direction the sound was coming from. He spotted a girl, a second-year by his guess, struggling with the locker and sighed to himself. He'd already told the school that the lockers needed replacing... Walking closer, he recalled the girl's name.

"Tsuka-san, would you like some help with that?"

He offered, tilting his head slightly to indicate he was talking about the locker.

Leiko was closing her locker when the announcement came on. She chuckled at the notion of having ‘a great year together’ as the headmistress said. It was a school, there was no way to have a ‘great year.’ Especially with so many delinquents around. She then began to walk to the martial arts room.

Ayako jumped hearing Tatsumi behind her. "Oh. Yamada-kun. Y-yes please, if it's not to much trouble." She said flustered. She was embarrassed that someone had seen her struggling with her locker. It didn't help that the person who saw was the Student Council Vice-President.

Tatsumi smiled slightly at the girl as she jumped, lightly amused at her surprised before letting her step back and taking her place at the locker. Fiddling with the lock for a few moments, he pulled against it lightly until a small click was heard. Popping the lock open, he left the locker slightly ajar, enough to see that it was definitely unlocked but not enough to invade Ayako's privacy. He turned back to the girl with another small smile.

"That should do it, Tsuka-san. Did you need me for anything else?"

"I think I'm fine. But thank you so much Yamada-kun." She said gratefully. "How is Kaichou doing?" She asked as she grabbed her books for her first class.

It was a typical morning, to say the least.

Arisu had arisen early in the morning, as she normally did. Akademi intended to host tryouts for the various sports teams before the first school day had begun, which Arisu had been interested in doing so. After all, sports were in Arisu's blood in both a figurative and literal sense. Her mother had been the former leader of the Sports club, and her father a part of the Martial Arts club, therefore Arisu had loved anything physically-related--especially baseball.

And so, Arisu tried her luck on the diamond, determined to succeed. By the end of the tryouts, Arisu had managed to drench herself in sweat. Rinsing off at one of the various outdoor fountains, Arisu knew she would have to wait until later to see if she had made the team. It was like a job interview--play by play would be reviewed, until they would decide on calling to confirm your acceptation.

In any case, Arisu knew she couldn't loiter too much outside the school. It was still the first school day of the year, and it would be terrible for first impressions to be late at the beginning. Being late could also affect her chances to make the team, thus Arisu finished rinsing off the sweat from her face and hurried towards the lockers to gather her belongings for class.

Tatsumi took a second to think on his answer. The student council president was a diligent and hard working girl who took a lot of pride in her position, always striving to have the same success that her idol, his own mother Megami Saikou, had during her tenure. She cared greatly for her students, a trait he held a great deal of respect for, but she was also only a teenager. Without realising, she would overwork herself time and time again, even before she had taken on the role of Kaichou. Luckily, the new year had only just begun so the workload was small. Besides, he has their public face to account for, so he couldn't spread any negative news, not that their was any to begin with.

"You're welcome. I've been trying to see to it that the school do something about these old lockers, so we should start seeing some improvements in the future. Kaichou is doing well in the role, but I like to help out wherever I can, even if she doesn't need it."

The vice-president adjusted the strap of his bag against his shoulder and the grip on his bokken bag as he spoke, stopping them from sliding off accidentally without warning. He already had the books he needed for the first few lessons of the day in his bag, having grabbed them before he and the president had sat down to work that morning. He smiled at some of the other students, returning a few nods and greetings before turning back to the girl in front of him.

"...Anyway, I should let you go. I'm sure you have somewhere you want to be, and I'd like to see if anyone else needs help."

Unlike some other students a certain young lady came to school looking more or less like a mess: no makeup, uniform somewhat sloppily put on, and her hair tied up in a haphazard ponytail. She was fixing the two pink braids into place when she reached her locker, and adjusted her glasses. Ryuko was not exactly happy to be back in school, but she wasn't against it, either. Most classes were easy, but they were boring. Not to mention she could get in trouble for playing Saifumon on her Saikou Flip 4D; she was still a tad salty about losing that Sparkly Pikablu when the math teacher had confiscated her Flip and shut it off without saving.

When the announcement came over the loudspeaker she barely paid attention. Staying up all night playing Facade 5 probably wasn't a good idea, thought Ryuko. She yawned, checking everything in her satchel... including the hidden compartment that Mom had sewn into the inside to stash her games. At least I'll get some more material for my doujins~ Ryuko smirked, unaware of the fact that the look would appear to be kind of lewd to the casual passerby.

Junko looked damn good, in her opinion. It was her first day of high school, after all; she had to make a first impression. Over her rather typical school uniform, she was wearing a leather jacket with an Ouija board design on the back, and she had bows in her hair with plastic skeleton hands on them.

She may have looked great, but she felt quite the opposite. She just couldn’t shake the gloomy feeling brought on by the beginning of school. Looking at her, you’d be surprised that a literal raincloud hadn’t materialized over her head. She had a sour expression and a slumped posture befitting only the angstiest of emo kids.

She missed her cat. Why couldn’t she bring him to school with her?

Junko put her things away in her locker, and went out into the courtyard, avoiding interacting with anyone. She leaned against a tree and slowly sunk to the ground, pulling out a book and hoping as hard as she could that no one would talk to her until she was at least a little more awake.

She nodded. "Yeah. One of these days these lockers are going to kill somebody." She joked. "Good luck with the first years." She said with a smile. She said goodbye to Tatsumi and went up to the art room. She grabbed her art supplies from her bag and got to work.

Ryuko's phone beeped, startling her for a moment. She checked the screen after quickly switching her phone to vibrate.

try not to get in trouble kiddo :3
From: Mom

She rolled her eyes. Without a doubt she was referring to the incident that happened last year when Ryuko had seen the biology teacher and school nurse simply talking in the hallway... and started drawing a full-on girls' love doujinshi on the spot. That sounds bad, right? Well, it went from bad to worse when none other than the headmistress came up behind her and saw what she was drawing. Her drawing pad was confiscated on the spot, and both of her parents were called in after school for a meeting.

Talk about embarrassing, Ryuko thought. Oh, sure, she hadn't gotten in trouble with her parents over it (in fact both her mom and dad were fairly supportive of her hobby, and had even footed a small amount of cash so that she could sell first doujin at Comichiba last year) but she was still on the staff's shit-list over the incident.

Whilst gathering her books and other various belongings required for the school day, Arisu was witness to some more than peculiar sights. The first day of school had always been interesting, but it was also quick to point out those who stood out (or as some would put it, those that appeared weird or different). Out of those that Arisu had noticed, two stood out even more so than the rest--like they were on top of the food chain.

One had unknowingly expressed a wanton smirk, giving off a lewd vibe. Arisu couldn't help but to feel awkward around the girl, even if she had not known her name or who she was. What was she thinking to express such a smirk? Still, before Arisu could figure the reasoning behind it, the girl was soon distracted by her phone beeping loudly as the rest of the students continued to gather their supplies and books.

The other girl that Arisu had noticed was entirely different than the previous. Rather than mischievous, the girl appeared dreadful; her face sour and posture slumped. Perhaps she was having a bad day, but it had left Arisu with quire the curious case as the girl trudged through the crowd, attempting to avoid everyone.
Perhaps I should introduce myself... Arisu thought as she closed her locker and made sure the combination had reset.

Following the girl into the courtyard, Arisu watched her sit down--alone--by a tree. Approaching the tree, Arisu took a seat nearby within the grass.
"Hey there," Arisu spoke, hoping to grab the girl's attention from her book. "I just thought to introduce myself. I'm Arisu Kunin, but you can call me Ari if you'd like. Who are you? What are you reading?" Arisu continued, hoping she could at least snap the girl out of her apparent depressed mood. Perhaps Arisu's words appeared needy to the girl, but it was best to start somewhere when it came to friends and fellow classmates.

Leiko was bored as crap. She walked out to the courtyard, leaning against a tree and observing the surroundings. ’the first day is always boring’ she told herself, ’I shouldn’t expect anything different.’ she sighed, waiting for something interesting to happen, despite knowing that nothing would.

Junko had only read a few pages before another girl came up to her, introducing herself and asking a few questions. She blinked, trying to process the rush of information. After a moment, she smiled at Ari (the smile didn’t exactly meet her eyes, but it was still genuine).

“Nice to meet you! I’m Junko Ruto,” she glanced down at her book, raising it to show off the cover (showing a large image of Nosferatu), “It’s a book about horror movies.”

Actually, it was a book about popular subgenres of horror and the philosophy and psychology that made them work, but she didn’t want to go all horror-nerd and scare off a potential new friend just yet.

Now a little more awake Ryūko fixed a magnetic mirror to the inside of her locker and fixed her hair. As usual she forewent makeup. Usually that would make a girl feel like a troll (or at least, she thought) but she felt confident enough… or what passed for confident for a socially awkward girl obsessed with video games, anime, and manga.

Maybe I can reboot the Gaming Club, Ryūko mused. The majority of the club last year had been seniors, so once they graduated there were less than five people left. Then again, Akademi's gaming clubs of yesteryear had always been the butt of jokes by students and teachers alike. I mean, Dad said that one particularly stupid member outright tried to murder a game developer for a casual remark about her idiotic emails…

The girl that Arisu had spoken to introduced herself as Junko Ruto, someone with an odd knack for horror. Arisu had never been one for horror movies--some were actually scary, while others were undeniably cringy. It wasn't that Arisu was scared of the things that go bump in the night (or was she?), but after everything was said and done, it simply was not a genre Arisu could get into.

"Horror movies? There was one on last night... something about alien clowns? You probably know more about it than I do." Arisu replied as she watched the rest of the students begin to funnel into the courtyard. One of the students Arisu spotted sat against a tree just as Junko had done, and started to talk to herself, but Arisu didn't pay them much mind."So, Junko, what class are you in?"

Tatsumi waved goodbye to Ayako as she left and turned toward the courtyard, stepping into the morning air after the short walk between the lockers and the doors leading out onto the paved fountain area. It was a fairly easy place to find, making a common place for the first year students to flock as they try to get their bearings, yet as the vice-president stepped into the courtyard it seemed devoid of those students with only a few of the more senior second and third year students instead.

He was surprised by that, Not that he was complaining of course. Instead, he was grateful for the familiarity of the environment without having to worry about lost students. He spotted Leiko, the daughter of one of his father's old friends, leaning against one of the trees with an utterly disinterested expression and raised an eyebrow before heading over to where she was.

"You can't be that bored already, Matsuda-san."

Ryūko checked the form that had come in the mail. Apparently this year, homeroom for her was in Class 2-1. It didn't really make a difference to her. Her only friends in school had been the seniors in the Gaming Club, and they were either working or off at college. Well, that wasn't strictly true; last she heard Satō-kun was a hiki-NEET living in his parents' basement. Poor guy. I wouldn't be too surprised if he had a heart attack one of these days...

Raiden leaned against a wall in the courtyard and watched all of the students mill about. He saw the student council vice-president talking to that Matsuda kid. He didn't make any move to go and talk to anyone, he just watched.
