We are going through the edge of the forest to get an idea of it. My point was that we'd be easy to pop off on horseback and the mounts could bolt in a surprise attack, so best to walk through the worse areas.

Also if the woods are dense we would struggle to bring horses through.... Editing my post now

Oh rip, then I would have my experience wasted if there isnt even any major adviice left to give, oh well. At least I could still suggest having men camp out in the forest.

@AndreyichIf you leave a man to watch the horses, as I imagine you would, they are unlikely to bolt. Their Dragoon horses. You should be practicing shooting their heads while in the saddle. Have some faith in they noble steed sah!

Well I was using

Once the Omadon reached the bridge and Nizar split off Nyon kicked his horse into a trot and continued down the road. While traveling Von Nyon took mental notes on what he sees down to the ditches by the side of the path. As Nyon passed houses he checked for signs of life to note if there is occupants of the possible "strong holds" When Nyon reached the forest he followed his NCO's idea and dismounted for that portion of the route.

Nyon finally got where the two patrol paths intersect but did not see Konyk. The horses did require a rest and so Nyon had his Omadon dismount, seek cover under a tree and stay in a half alert posture.(one man rests while the other watches) Nyon waited till the horses were fresh, then took off at a higher tempo than before to make up for lost time.

for reference, for it appeared to me that we had already done one patrol.

This was the plan, haha. I think he was responding to Kai, though. @Andreyich@Sirkaithethird If you guys want to edit it so you haven't yet finished your patrol that would allow me to set up an encounter for you, otherwise I can work around what you've posted so far.
