"Listen buddy, grab some distance, throw a nice leer at her. But be extra careful of her horn!! Looks like she is trying to use poison sting on you!! That could end this quickly for us!!" She called to her Pokemon.
"Chim, Chimchar!!" It called back to her. She could only hope it knew to be careful. Chimchar moved to position and begin to heavily leer at his opponent.
Spinarak was ready for another head on attack, but then the Chimchar stepped backward for a menacing Leer. Spinarak didn't understand. This was a battle. Why was her enemy backing off like that? What was with that look? What was going on!?
For reasons inexplicable to herself, the young Spinarak began to loose the will to fight. She was lost in the leer. She couldn't look away.
So maybe Leer isn't your normal damaging move, but you've effectively beaten the Spinarak mentally. She only had 8 HP left. After that leer, she only has 1 HP left (We might want to find another term than HP. How about 'Power'? You've gotten in her head and dropped her power mentally.
Yeah..... power.
In any case, now would be a great time to throw a Pokeball!
◇◇◇ They/Them Pronouns for When Referring to Rin. Thank You! ◇◇◇
Rin narrowed their eyes into slits, and their smile morphed with displeasure. Rin liked getting what they wanted. They weren't raised rotten, but failure was not an option with Rin. They were a competitor through, and through, and if there was anything competitive people hate most, it was without a doubt: losing. Chikorita rejecting them? Felt like a loss. Not accepting his response, Rin yanked their backpack over their shoulder. Stuffing their left hand back into their backpack, Rin straightened their back, and glared down at the small creature.
This time with less spite and more arrogance. "Don't think I won't fight you," they threatened with Anusobeket coming up from behind them. "Because you can bet I'm stubborn enough to try! We're gonna be World Champions, so you can either get on board," Rin dropped a pokéball in front of him and the familiar red light cloaked the Chikorita again, "or get ready to fight . . ." A tiny, measly, insignificant voice in the back of their mind knew they wouldn't be able to handle fighting the clearly high-leveled Grass Type, but their pride screamed otherwise; and that's exactly what this was. A matter of pride. Perhaps this would be a learning experience for Rin, perhaps this would make them dig their heels in even more into the issue, or maybe they'd get their way and no lesson would be learned or grudge set at all.

Once again the light engulfed the wild Chikorita, and once again it began to shake... very slowly.
Congratulations! You've caught yourself an annoyingly calm, level 15 Chikorita! I'll add this to your stat sheet right away. You didn't battle however. So no leveling up for your Totododile yet.
◇◇◇ They/Them Pronouns for When Referring to Rin. Thank You! ◇◇◇
Once... Rin steeled their expression. ....Twice.... Their eyes flickered to Anusobeket who stared cooly at the rolling Pokéball. ..........Three Times.... "Yes!" Rin exclaimed, hopping into the air. ......................Four.... "No!" Rin shrieked, slipping on their landing and falling chin first. Pushing themself back up Rin began to call out, "Anu, u-!" ...Five..... The command drooled out of their now hanging jaw. Six...... Rin merely blinked. Seven...... "You!"
With the dazzling chirp of the pokéball confirming a successful capture, Rin yanked the pokéball off the dirt, and hastily sent the Chikorita back out of its ball. "You are really hilarious!" Swaddling the newly caught Chikorita in their arms, Rin lifted him up as they spun around; heartily laughing all the while. "You really had me going there! I totally thought this would be the end of it all." No longer fearing a fight, it seemed Rin's honesty had returned, and so did Anusobeket's playful side. The Totodile chased after them in a circle. Scooping Anu into their free arm, Rin introduced the two with animated enthusiasm."Anusobeket, we're gonna be traveling with this guy now; we're stuck with him!" Rin teased with no response from the Pokémon in question. Rin hefted them both up in their arms to keep them from slipping. "He's your new brother, so spar if you like --Arceus knows me and my sisters did-- but no biting or bruising, alright?" Anu looked like she might consider the offer, while the unamed pokémon seemed unphased. "You're pretty chill, huh? Takes a lot to get a reaction out of you?" The male shrugged as best he could. "Challenge accepted then, Rin devishly smirked. "I'll pull astonishment out of you one these days . . . uh . . ." Rin was going to adress the Chikorita by name, but Rin hadn't given him one yet. They furrowed their brows. "Hm . . . how's Osajyin sound?"
"Chika," he practically yawned noncommittaly in full display of his easygoing nature.
"I'm taking that as yes." Rin said before hiking them up one last time in their arms, and did their best to lift them as high as they could. "Elite 4, here we come!" With that, they took off deeper in the forest; just now beginning to trek the inclines of hills, and see the clearings of meadows. Rin intended to catch em all, so that meant no breaking at just one or four catches. Sure, they spent two Pokéballs on him, but they'd cross that bridge when they came to it. Now was the time for exploration! Two Pokémon Down, Eight-Hundred Left To Go!
Hephaestus changed gears so fast the spinarak got confused. Liz could clearly see that it didn't know how to deal with the leer and was losing it's will to fight. She knew that she wouldn't get a better chance than this and threw a pokeball at the bug.
"Your joining us young lady, I won't take no for an answer!!" She said enthusiastically. The pokeball opened with a pop, and with a hiss the red light sucked up the Pokemon, now all Liz could do was wait.

As Rin walked along their merry way, the sun began to set. That sure was a large forest!
On top of a nearby hill, a wild Smeargle was facing out to the distant waters. Beside him stood a large smooth rock protruding out of the ground. With his blue tipped tail, he painted a very detailed interpretation of the waters. On that same rock, it seamed as if other Smeargle had already finished the greens of the hill in the foreground.
Upon his last brush stroke, Smeargle sat down, legs crossed. He then took a deep breath and relaxed, glancing between the painting and the scene before him. It seemed as if he had no worries in the world, not from predators or anything. This was a little naive to say the least. After all, he was right out in the open, vulnerable to the world.
Look at that, another Pokemon! This Smeargle is at level 5. What will you do? Battle it? Throw a Pokeball? or Keep moving?
Keep in mind, if you choose to battle it, Smeargle will Sketch the first move you use against it, in order to fight back. That move will become his move for life, and he won't be able to learn another move until he hits level 11. If you catch him without battling, you'll keep that blank Sketch.

The red light from the Pokeball snatched up the wild Spinarak. Completely overwhelmed to begin with, she didn't have any desire to fight back. The Pokeball didn't even shake one time before signaling a successful catch. But how would Liz deal with her new sassy companion from here on out. Surely Leer wouldn't work to the same degree next time she started acting up.
Result: No need to roll. With only 1 Power left, it's a guarantee catch!
Congratulations! You've caught a Spinarak! I've added her to your stat sheet. I've also increased your Chimchar's level by one. This brings him up to level 7. (He can now use Ember, btw) Double congrats!
The pokeball didn't even bother shaking before announcing it's capture. Liz calmly walked up to the Pokeball and picked it up. She turned to Hephaestus and showed the ball to him. He excitedly bounced up and down, flames shooting from his mouth.
"Looks like we got a new friend little buddy, and you learned a new move!! I am so proud of you, shall we continue hunting?? It's getting dark, maybe we will find some nocturnal ghost pokemon??" Chimchar nodded that it was ready to move on. The pair turned and walked deeper into the woods looking to expanded their collection, her mind wondered to Rin and hoping he was having success like she was.

As Liz walked through the woods, she soon came across another wild Pokemon, a Hoothoot! The wild Hoothoot was pecking away at something hidden by its body.
That's when Liz stepped on a twig. The Hoothoot twisted around at the middle of it's body to see the girl. Spooked by her presence, it flew off without any hesitation.
Where the Hoothoot was standing, Liz could see the thing it was eating on, an apple. But this was no ordinary apple. Slowly but noticeably, the apple began to regenerate itself. It was half eaten when the Hoothoot flew away, but at the rate it was regenerating, it would be whole again in a matter of minutes.
Awe man... the Pokemon got away. But what's this. It's abandoned it's meal, and what a meal it is! This Leftover apple could keep any Pokemon fed forever! What a treat! You're not going to pass this up are you?
Hint: This is the battle item known as "Leftovers". It is a hold item that you can use in Pokemon Showdown.
Liz and Hephaestus walked through the woods, it was getting darker by the moment. With the final Ray's of the sun beginning to disappear she came across a Hoothoot eating something she couldn't quite make out.
"Alight Hephie, ready to catch an other pokemon??" She asked quietly, unfortunately for her she also stepped on a twig which alerted the Hoothoot to their presence. It took off before they had a chance to attack leaving it's meal behind. Unbelievably the meal started to reform before their eyes. Liz rushed over and picked it up before anything else came to take it. She handed the leftovers to Hephaestus. "This will definitely give you a leg up in future battles little buddy. Now we have a little light left, let's see if we can't find one more pokemon left before we hunker down for the night ok??" Chimchar nodded as it took a bite out of the leftovers. The two meandered on ahead, more cautious to not make a sound.

Chimchar nodded as it took a bite out of the leftovers. The two meandered on ahead, more cautious to not make a sound.
Liz and Chimchar did their best not to make any noise, but it was useless. The two of them were already being watched from above. A wild Murkrow sat perched on a tree above calmly observing. Her eyes were fixed on the apple in Chimchar's hands. She didn't make a peep and was almost indistinguishable from the backdrop of the dark forest behind her.
If Liz hadn't just recently battled a Pokemon that was hiding in a tree, she most definitely would miss this little bird as well. But with that experience under her belt, chances were, she might just see it.
A calmMurkrow is lurking in the trees above. Will you notice this Pokemon or pass it on by? Be careful though, this Murkrow is at level 17.
As Liz trudged through the forest, the sun long ago having set, making their sneaky through pointless. They made more noise than an Ursarang on a rampage, as they walked she spotted a shape up in a tree watching them silently. Liz carefully pulled out her Pokedex and scanned the Pokemon. It told her that it was a Murkrow, just her luck!! She also noticed that it was eyeing Hephaestus and his leftovers, the poor thing looked hungry.
"Hey there buddy, my you are looking simply beautiful. Your feathers have such a gorgeous shine in the moonlight. I can tell by looking at you that your a very strong Pokemon, but you also look very hungry. We just found some food, I tell you what, I will make a deal. Join our team, and I will let you have the leftovers, all that you want!! I think together we will make a truly powerful team!!" She said pulling out a pokeball and extending it out to give the Murkrow a choice. "I know you guys are very smart, so I won't give you the leftovers until you join. And if you think about trying to steal them, I will call Hephaestus back before you get to close, we cannot beat you in a fight. So what do you say, care to have fun with us??"
She waited tensely to see the Murkrows reaction, she grabbed Hephaestus's pokeball just in case it decided to attack.

The Murkrow tilted its head sideways while Liz spoke. Was the human really trying to use the power of persuasion on her? What an interesting tactic. Murkrow flew down out of the tree and landed a few feet out in front of Liz and Hephestus. It fluttered its wings after landing and calmly tilted its head again.
Fair warning, talking to the Murkrow isn't going to effect your odds at capturing it. But if you do capture it under these pretenses, you've already promised over the leftovers.
The Murkrow landed just a few feet from her and Hephaestus cocking it's head to the side again. She hoped that meant tit was thinking over her proposal.
"I am a woman of my word, I don't have many friends, but I would like to count you as one. If we have to fight, and I am pretty sure you would win, but I would have to try." She touched the ball to the Murkrows head and the ball absorbed the pokemon, now she had to wait and see what would happen.

The red light absorbed the Murkrow, and the Pokeball landed on the ground. It began to shake. Once.... ....Twice..... .........Three.....
POP!
With another flash of red light, the Murkrow reappeared in the same spot. The ball flew up into the air and came back down, towards the dark bird Pokemon. She then swatted it out of mid air, off to the side, out of sight. She then hopped two steps backward while maintaining calm eye contact with the trainer.
Liz sighed at the failed attempt to capture the Pokemon. She looked over to Hephaestus, knowing he couldn't stand a realistic chance. But she decided she would still try.
"Alright than battle it is, but if you win Murkrow, you won't get the leftovers. Hephaestus, use ember dear." Liz backed up so the battle could begin in earnest, she just needed to bring it's hp down somewhat to catch it, if Chimchar fainted she would run, Arachne couldn't win against a flying type.

Murkrow smiled internally as the Chimchar prepared for its attack. At the same time her wings began to glow with a bright light. As the flames exited his mouth, Murkrow took flight and evaded the attack with ease. Chimchar was still blowing the last of his embers as Murkrow charged forward with a hefty Wing Attack.
The wild Murkrow hit Hephaestus hard, Liz knew he wouldn't be able to take an other hit like that. She scrambled for an other pokeball, hoping it would work this time.
"Listen, I won't take no for an answer, that move just now was really powerful. I need you. On my team!!" She shouted the last part as she threw one more pokeball, she knew it most likely wouldn't work, but she had to hope.

The Pokeball hit Murkrow square on the beak. Her eyes glared disapproval as the light engulfed her body. The Pokeball only shook one time before she popped back out, obviously not amused. Despite her displeasure though, her outward appearance was as calm as ever. This Pokemon should really play poker!
Liz silently cursed to herself, she wasn't going to give up so easily. She knew she was about to make a big mistake, but her options were limited.
"Hephaestus, that's enough come back!! Arachne, this is our first battle together, show me what you have, just be careful of it's wing attack!! Use Poison Sting!!" Hephaestus retreated into his pokemon and the brand new spinarak came out, it's horn already glowing.
