@CAS1006 There is some question as to whether or not The Thing was initially smart. I personally think that it was. However, the X have picked up some kind of intelligence like a new toy. They don't communicate, but they're clearly acting intelligently. That particular toy is being employed now. It's why things are so bad.

Still, the idea is that everyone is being given personal quarantine fields to give them some protection from the X. I've explained to the players that these will lose power as they take damage. The random blobs can't do anything to them, but the creatures with offensive powers CAN. The point is to keep the power levels of the personal fields up and the devices themselves unharmed so you don't get infected the next time you have any sort of X contact.

So, a support person who has energy cells to spare and some rechargeable cells that cycle back up to full after a while...can top people off, erect temporary quarantine fields to save their lives, create physical barriers that enemies need to work at to penetrate, shoot insta-crete to stop them for a while. You'd be in the act of disease prevention more than disease control, basically.

Hope that clears up everything.

@FalloutJack So what you're saying is.

"Ice Blaster with Gauss Rife." Type deal, stun based weapons, and recharging shields, got it.~

@CAS1006 Not an actual ice blaster, as Samus crushes frozen enemies. I'm not going to release a freeze beam right off because we all know that'll make things a bit easy.

@FalloutJackFair enough, I honestly agree, just was me joking about.

But yeah. I'll work on the stuff when I'm more awake.

quick question if my miner guy can make 'ice bombs' after a while and spray it everywhsre saying "LET IT SNOW"
Well yeah, X adapting to even radiation would be...
Painful.
Anyways the support guy idea sounds awesome

@AlternateMan Gonna be honest here, the X don't seem to HAVE an ice weakness. An insta-crete attack is MUCH better, in this case.

What's an insta-crete attack? Do you throw a Mediterranean island at it...?
If it's a stupid question, I'll defend myself with the only semi good reason I got: English is not my native language. :l

PS: You ignored my very funny comment about curing the X and I feel wounded.

@SimpleWriter I laughed off-camera.

Still, the idea behind insta-crete is something I get from-

*Watches Greece soar by with a worried look*

-an old game called Scorched Earth. You may've seen versions of it. There was a 2D and 3D version, and players of it would find the Worms games reminescent of said games. In it, there are weapons that basically launch dirt to bury your foe, thus making it harder for him to deal with you. He's covered in dirt and - if he doesn't have the appropriate tools - he has to blast his way out, thus causing him damage. Even if he CAN break out, he has to use up time and resources to do it.

In this case, the insta-crete-

*Greece circles overhead again*

-is a wad of quick-setting conrete-like substance fired from a weapon that's used to subdue a foe. They get temporarily made into basically a statue.

*Pauses, thinking...*

Oh, right. It's also like the Gloo Cannon from Prey.

So you hold the X inside a layer of concrete-like material, huh?
Certainly less destructive than firebombing.

@AlternateMan Two problems with 'Let's do this instead of bombing them to hell.'.

{1} It doesn't hold up forever. Even the blobs would be expanding and contracting to break out.

{2} Even if you did this instead of bombing the planet, you're...what? Burying it in concrete? That still ruins it, AND it doesn't actually KILL the X.

The 'crete was probably used to help with evacuations wherever possible, not as a solution to the problem.

Just for everyone's information, CAS's working on it and I will be moving us on soon out of feelings of urgency, just...not right now. CAS will be joining us after the briefing, so I will try to complete it in short order.

Incidentally, I have figured out how to handle the issue of players taking too long in-RP. Once we get started, it'll be situations of 'We lost contact'. That way, we can move on AND people who lag behind CAN pick up.

@SimpleWriter Wouldn't Samus' presence be covered in the report you had?

I think my character's lack of knowledge should be blamed on mine.

Didn't you say she disappeared? I even went back to check on the chart of important things you wrote, and it never mentioned 387. Only 388. I took for granted she kind of left the Galaxy?

@SimpleWriter Okay, the idea of the 387 outpost is that it's in the right area for long-range observations of the SR System. It is SR-388's neighboring planet, which means there's a good chance it saw - from a distance - everything going to and from the BSL Station orbiting SR-388. This means that it would've been there to see the BSL Station put into the orbit in the first place, deliveries, Samus' arrival, the Metroid-producing area breaking off and exploding, and then BSL Station's destruction along with anything that would have escaped, Samus and all. The reason the Admiral wants the team to go there is that more accurate information on Samus' departure from the system can be gathered, and also where the X went, so that they can more-accurately try and figure out where to look for sources of them. (The reason they don't have that already is because Adam the AI stopped delivering them intel.)

Does that help?
