Open until 11PM? Looked like she hadn't needed to rush here after all. Cecilia scanned the Hall briefly, her own brows lifting at Prome's sudden arrival. Well, with the weather being as it was now, it wouldn't even be surprising if Kira popped up too. Those were the ones that had been the most heavily affected by Ka- the difficulties of the Floor Boss, after all. As long as...

The half-naked warrior man, who definitely looked like someone of importance here, spoke up while restraining his fairer companion, obviously not all a fan of Prome's go-getter attitude.

Alas, if only this wasn't someone in the same Guild as her. Flashing an apologetic smile at Aleut, Cecilia smoothly interposed herself between Prome and the two NPCs, bowing towards them with respect rather than submission. "Apologies for my guildmate's attitude," the gracious lady spoke, "We've just recently fought a rather difficult battle, and the losses sustained have set some of us, including Prome here, quite on edge. I ask of you to grant some leniency towards him, at least for tonight, and I can assure you that his engines of destruction will only be directed towards the monsters roaming this land."

"Ah," Cecilia continued, with calculated redirection, "But where are my manners. I am Cecilia Tonitrus, hailing from Genesis. Though things may have started off on a bad foot, it's still a pleasure to meet the two of you."

River

River beamed a smile at the waitress as she passed by them giving each their order. ”Thanks Anu. Feel free to take the hot water up to Room 3 please.” He turned his attention back towards his two guild mates. ”It’s really no problem. I’m sure any one of you wouldv’e gotten the inn rooms if you’d arrived here first too, besides, time was of the essence and I didn’t wanna risk us not having a place to stay for the night.” River began to play with his fruit, pushing it side to side on his plate with his fork while he absently mindedly stared at it. He heard mention of Promes name and his glance shot over for a second, seeing the now mad scientist seemingly speaking to himself in a corner. A long sigh escaped his lips before a piece of honeydew found its way to his mouth. He began to wonder if there was anything differently that he could’ve done to prevent any of the guilds deaths, as well as staving off Prome’s health a bit better.

All of that, however, was interrupted when the door slammed open and a familiar demon stepped foot into the tavern. River immediately facepalmed at the scene and attempted to duck a little lower and avoid the chances that people would associate the two. He hear Willow speak up and his fate was sealed, doomed to be that guild with not one, but two mad players that were now claimed by the game. ”Kira don’t make a scene. So help me I will bind you in place with priest seals if I have to” Maybe others will think this was a simple RolePlaying guild, after all it isn’t unheard of to have some floating around in a fantasy game. River plopped another fruit into his mouth as he stared onto the Town Map. ”Now that the rain has let up a bit...I think I might go take a boat over to the Shamans Hut right here. That must be where the casting subclass quest is, and I’ve been raring to get on that since I hit 15.” He placed the map onto the tap, tapping the location of the Hut for both Willow and Holly to see. ”I don’t know if they subclass teachers are actually based on magic or physical seeing as how they’re marked by the same quest...but a boat ride sounds kind of pleasant right now. So what do you two think?”

While Holly and Willow decided on their answers, River finally opened up the chat seeing Cecilia’s response. Ofcourse she ignored the warnings and ran straight through a storm, she was a reckless as they came...or cocky. The fact that she ran into the Rathon already was a bit moritfying. She could’ve been killed or at the very least in severe trouble with no one to back her up or keep her alive. She did, however, manage to make it safely to the guild hall which was a feat in and of itself.

”A Godzilla-esque creature? Not exactly what I imagined when i saw an overgrown village and larger than life flora. From the information I received i expected it to be some form of giant fish monster or something. Either way, glad you didn’t engage it, and even more glad that you made it safety to the guild. I may go to the Shamans Hut later on and see about getting my subclass quest started so that we can all work on them together. I have your room key as well as the key to anyone that hasn’t already gotten theirs.”

When River looked back up finally, he had noticed Prome was missing. ”Hm? Where did he go?”

Holly was continuing to eat her food, which she bought from the Tipsy Troodon it was definitely what she needed. She took another sip of her ale, while River was speaking to the Waitress about taking the hot water to his room in specific. It was a nice idea to take a well relaxing bath to unwind from the hell that was the previous floor. ”The inn rooms are a definite thing I or anyone in this guild would have gotten. Since it’s always good to sleep on beds instead of sleeping outside… like that one time because someone forgot to buy space at an inn…” Holly said, with a slight giggle mostly because that was completely embarrassing. It was her fault for forgetting that one time, which didn’t go well anyone who wanted to sleep that day in a bed. She shrugged her shoulders while starring at Prome, which is pretty obvious he didn’t hear her. It is like you need to be right in front of his face or something to get him to ‘realize’ you exist or something. ”I do hope he doesn’t do anything stupid I suppose.” Holly thought to herself, with a slight smile on her face, while getting back at what she was doing before hand.

There was a shock to her system, mostly because of someone being a bit rude, which was the fact someone slammed the doors to the tavern open. She looked over to the person who entered, with a pretty demanding voice, which was no other than the Great Akumi or for short Kira. It was obvious in why she noticed River facepalmed really hard and tried to hide from Kira. However, it would be pointless to hide from the demoness in question. She was grateful that Kira didn’t die and was still here, however. It took Willow to speak up first, then River, which she took a few minutes to think of a response exactly. She found the words she wanted to speak, in response to Kira’s eccentric projection. ”Kira, your power hasn’t awakened yet. If it was truly awakened, I wouldn’t be worthy to stand in your presence. Since kneeling would be respectable...” Holly said, with a bit of what did I just say look on her face. It was pretty much obvious, Kira was being more of the Demoness than her usual self, however, she enjoyed a balance of these two. In the moment, she facepalmed at what she said because it was quite embarrassing almost like that one time.

Holly smiled at specifically what Willow had said to Kira, which was basically don’t tire yourself out and do something basically as reckless as Ceci. While she was trying to get her thoughts in order, she continued to eat her food and drink her ale. It was pretty much a great thing the food in this game tasted so good compared to the alternative. She stared at River, as he was talking while starring at a map of the town. ”Oh that’s pretty interesting River. Shaman’s hut requires a boat, one of the ways to get the Subclass is definitely going to help.” Holly said, with a her interest peaked. However, when River gave her the location of the map via tapping it to her she saw exactly where the Shaman’s hut is exactly. She gave out an aspirated sigh of what to do, which is pretty much obvious since she always enjoying being prepared. ”Hmm.. my father usually says be prepared but… I don’t really want to do anything and relax and rest from the hell we’ve been through… Ah, what the hell...” Holly thought to herself, with a definite look of thinking over with what River asked. She stares at River, with a smile and slightly with an exhausted look to her. ”Better to chance a meeting with a Subclass Trainer than waiting until tomorrow.” Holly said, the only reason why she picked going was because the rain let up a bit.

She heard River, which felt like someone isn’t here that should be. It took her a bit and looked directly were Prome ’was’ but no longer there. She gave out a deep sigh in a bit of frustration at that he just vanished without telling any of his guild mates where he went. ”Uhh, he was there before…” Holly said, with a bit of a look on her face like. She sighs a bit and hopefully an answer will come from Ceci, which is at the Guild Hall. ”Uhh, I do hope he doesn’t cause any trouble...” Holly said, with a sigh. She does hope Prome doesn’t cause any trouble because he’s a bit off his rocker at times. It is obvious, that sooner or later she’ll probably go the way of Kira or Prome since this is a bit too much for her at times. ”I wonder if my sanity will hold through this… whole… thing.” Holly thought to herself, with a definite worried look on her face.

Prome looked at the notification, and then the two NPCs that had just shown up. Within seconds, a manic smile grew on his face and he began to twitch in glee "...yessssss..." He remained there, twitching for a few seconds before he prostrated himself before them "Oh keepers of lost knowledge, I beseech you; reveal to me the path to ultimate power!" He raised his head to look them in the eye "I seek the means to slay all the beasts between here and the top of the tower, so that I might return home. The last battle showed me just how feeble I am. And so I come before you to acquire the strength to survive the many trials ahead! Present me any challenge you wish to test me, and I shall complete it or die trying!"

“You are single handedly the reason I drink.” Willow sighed at River. She would have preferred everyone took the night and rested. Just because their stats were topped off, the game still demanded they sleep and eat. After a huge battle, she’d rather play it safe but if everyone was insisting they push on then they would push on. She downed the rest of her drink before sending out a message to Cecelia.

Cece,

Did you at least take a moment to eat? A level up doesn't stop the game from hitting you with hunger. We're about to head out once we finish up here. Did you want me to pick you up some bread and fruit?

Can you also keep an eye out for Prome? He was with us freaking out and now he up and vanished.

Stay safe please.

"I need to pick up the rest of the body line anyways. I overestimated how much my stat would influence it's healing power." Willow grumbled, sending the message and picking at her stew. "We really need someone working on the numbers. Wonder if that's capped behind that arithmetic skill."

The inn was still noisy, Players coming and going as they wanted. Renn was flowing freely and the alcohol was right behind it. People were really going all out.

"Our condolences for your losses. Rania said, Dracion lifting his hand off her shoulder as she stood down. Both of them have him a wary look as he continued to blather. "I am Rania Hawthorne and this is Dracion Wildbron, second to the Shaman Chief. It an interesting choice to brave the Rathan's scorn. What brings you here with such purpose?"

Meanwhile, Dracion hauled Prome up by the arm off the floor. The weight of his suit didn't seem to bother the man all that much. He patted the Tinker hardily on the back.

"Stand up, you strange man. Around these parts we look each other in the eye. We don't bow down and grovel like beasts scrounging for food." Dracion boomed with a frown. "Now 'fore I can help you, need to know a few things. One, what tower? You talkin' about the ruins on top of the mountain right. Well, that there-" Rania smacked him lightly on the shoulder.

"I can handle this, Dracion. Go do your rounds." Dracion shot her a curious look and she just shook her head. He shrugged, said his farewells, and made his way out into the rain only to be stopped by other players. Rania turned back to the pair.

"Discussing the universe's layout with the unenlightened will only confuse them further." Rania spoke quietly as her tag blinked, changing from Rania to Rania Hathorne, Shifter Trainer. "Ultimate power is an illusion of your own creation. Ascension can only be achieved through the concurrent use of many powers, not a singular one. A single fish among the sharks is sure to die but when they swim as one, they may escape. At the cost of some of course."

Quest Accepted.

Prome's hands began to shake in excitement 'Mechanist!? That sounds like the subclass that builds engines of destruction! ' He then began to bounce in place "Oh...the possibilities. The path ahead is now clear. Thank you oh wise one!" He said goodbye to Rania before bolting out. Following the quest marker, he ran to the residential district, where he found the home of Professor Ratshrew. With manic glee, Prome knocked on his door, mind swimming with possible creations. 'Now I suppose the question is, do I want a tank, or a mech. Oh, I suppose I'll need to check if I can store either in my inventory. Having to leave my equipment behind because it's too big sounds like it'll get me killed fast, and nobody wants that. But the weaponry, ohhhh the weaponry. Should I go for a lot of small guns, or one really large one? Wait...what about aircraft? Yessssss! The idea of bombarding hordes of beasts from above fills me with delight'

Well then, that was that.

Within moments, Prome was gone again, running off to wherever else he deigned necessary to be. Raising a brow at his behaviour, Cecilia could only chuckle gracefully as another message pinged in the Guild chat. Willow, of course. Her gaze darkened, only briefly, before she typed back her own response, the mask slipping on again.

Heyo, Ceci again~ <3

Godzilla goes underwater, so it's basically a fish, isn't it? lololol Anyways, I'm like, the only person here who actually likes camping, so don't worry about me going hungry, Wiwi~ I've always got a healthy selection of preserved foods in my backpack to maintain my good figure. Oh, and sorry to say, but Prome's basically ran out on me too after causing a super mess in the Guild Hall. Geez, that dumbo, I really think Kira and him are like, doing this thing where they encourage each others bad behavior, you know? :x

Really, though, if you wanna leash him, I think you can catch him if you run outside right now. He's probably heading back to town, so you'll definitely be able to tackle him if you reach the bridge the same time as him. Good luck~!

Love and Peace!
Ceci~

P.S Hold on tight, Holly, I'm going to go ask them about Rangers and all right...now!

A quick tap of the 'Send' button, and Cecilia turned her attention back to Rania. "Apologies once more for my companion's behavior," the lilac-haired Lancer said, "Wanderlust runs thick through our blood, and some forget that society has courtesies too that shouldn't be neglected. Still though, I, and many others, have come to Reliquia to sharpen our skills and relieve this place of whatever monstrous burdens may be present. I've heard too, that a famed Ranger resides in this place? Might I inquire their name and place of residence, Madam Hawthorne? Another, more reasonable companion of mine has professed interest in such trade, and it would be a boon if I could share such knowledge with her."

Of course, Cecilia really just wanted to throw money at Aluet and get herself some new Actions, but, well...someone had to form half-decent impressions with the local NPCs, after all. God, maybe she should just pretend not to know Prome and Kira when they're in public now.

River

River gave an exageratingly exasperated and shocked face, being fully taken aback and clutching his pearls at Willow’s comment. ”Me? The reason you drink? That’s so harsh. If anything it should be Kira, or more recently Prome from what I can tell. Honestly, I am hurt Willow.” He gave her a cheeky smile as he took another bite of his fruit. River pulled out a small leather book that was held closed by a long leather thong. Unwrapping it he peered through the notes that were written inside, pages of monsters they’d run into and fought, each showcasing the data and abilities. The first floor seemed to have monsters that were fitting to such an area, creatures of the plains, grasslands, and ravines all matching real world habitats and ecology. ”Say...Willow, Holly, when we fight monsters, you guys can see all the stats, health, and abilities pop up too right? Or is that directly linked to either my class or Monster Knowledge skill?” River slid his notebook into the center of the table for both of them to see his expanded list.

”If it is just me then, perhaps I can scout ahead, take another stealth player with me for protection, and get the stats of the creatures first before we decide to engage. That would help us formulate a better plan of attack or capture for each encounter, save for surprise ones. Even then, if its something we’ve faced and briefed on before then it’ll make it that much easier.” For now this was an advantage that his guild may have. Someone with a skill as high as his would make challenges a bit easier, and if strapped, they could sell information to DataLink for Renn in exchange for Monster Knowledge they didn’t have before. Finishing up his plate of food, River stood up from the table with a smile. ”Walk and talk, we got subclasses to acquire and a boat to catch.” With that River grabbed his leather book, placed it back into his inventory, and headed for the docks.

Holly couldn’t help but giggle a bit with what Willow said towards River. It was much more hilarious, however, with the reaction that River gave in response. However, when River mentioned Prome and Kira made her sigh, which it was mostly because of Prome. ”His own little world definitely gets in the way of conversation. Better to focus on something instead the alternative...” Holly said, it was kinda obvious what she was hinting at. She continued to eat her food and drink her ale. It made her think about her father, with a slight hint of her own mother Lana. Her family was pretty important to her but being trapped within a game is dreadful and all. ”I do wonder what my mother is doing… while I am trapped within this game? Probably selling the latest brand of my family’s last name cloth line to the world at large…” Holly thought to herself, with a slight bit of annoyance on her face. Her mother was always a bit headstrong about selling clothes. She looked at the guild chat and saw Ceci messaging the guild and she sighed at seeing that Prome ran from her too. ”Is Prome secretly Sonic the hedgehog or something?” Holly said, gasped at the fact Prome went to the Guildhall than ran off somewhere else.

She read the full message and kinda agreed about what Ceci said about leashing Prome, because he needs it. The PS part of the message definitely gave her a smile because it was needed after the shock in her face of imagining that Prome is Sonic the Hedgehog. ”Uhh, I need to think of something else because I do remember that horrible Sonic the Hedgehog Live Action Movie...” Holly said, with a shudder at what she specifically said. She basically messages Ceci in the guild chat.

Ceci, thank you for that.

I have to agree with your sentiment with leashing Prome, so he doesn’t get away from any of us because god… It made me think that Prome is Sonic… from that god awful Live Action movie in 2019. I can’t believe I bought the Virtual Experience Package of Sony’s movie collection and it had that movie in it.

We definitely need that good luck in catching Prome.

Good luck, Ceci
Holly

Holly took a moment to make sure her mind wasn’t on the Prome equals Sonic. It definitely helped that River said something that intrigued her a bit. ”No, I don’t see any stats when fighting monsters. It’s probably the knowledge of monsters, I guess? Don’t really know exactly since the skills in this game are a bit complex. Unless Willow has more knowledge on the subject.” Holly said, with the fact she read the manual on the game but it was a bit vague on some skills in the game. Specifically, Monster Knowledge skill was vague for her to understand exactly what it meant, which is why she didn’t pick it in the character creation. However, she does better at getting hands on with something than visual means. She noticed the notebook, which River showed them and saw interesting stats and stuff on monsters. ”Interesting… that’s many monsters you’ve wrote down on. This would be a definite help in keeping us prepared rather than having an uncertainty in battle.” Holly said, with a gentle smile on her face. She finished her plate of food and ale, it was definitely good food to eat. What River had said definitely empathized about him scouting out and writing down information on monsters with help of course. ”That sounds like a good idea, River. What about you Willow do you think that’s a good idea?” Holly asked Willow.

She had a smile on her face, however, she saw River getting up. It took her a bit to remember what she had to do because of certain things. ”This is definitely going to be a thing, since I need to get more arrows and stuff. Since I had to beat monsters with my bow… Shopping is always great. Boats…. Hmm...” Holly said, she basically was hinting that her family owns a Yacht without saying it. However, the family would have to travel to New Orleans via their private jet to get to their yacht to be in the Gulf of Mexico. She usually would never go anywhere even though there’s many things she can do at her mansion. However, it doesn’t help that she’s trapped within a game. ”This is pretty annoying. I should’ve been more outgoing and met everyone before… this game happened. But I was too shy to do that. It’s probably because the brand of clothes my mother sells across the world is a brand that most stores carries. I can’t believe mother sells clothes that are affordable for the poor, middle class, and highly rich people. The prices are a bit insane.” Holly thought to herself, with a highly focused look on her face. She got up from her chair, which she looked at River with a smile on her face. ”Sorry I was thinking about certain things… if I looked a bit distracted.” Holly said. She headed with River to the Docks.

“It’s no matter. Other than his initial rudeness, he is less harmful than a welkin during breeding season. Though I’m sure the Professor will appreciate his strange disposition.” She laughed, waving off whatever offense Cecila believed to have occurred. Rania proved rather expressive, not hide her thoughts or emotions, and her entire face fell flat at the mention of Ranger. She scoffed.

“Famed Ranger. A boar has a better reputation than that brat.” Rania muttered darkly but sighed. “Last I knew, she fled from Dracion last week and popped down into Genesis to give him space after their last confrontation. If she has the gall to return here already then she’ll probably bunk down at River Run. She likes to gamble in her off time and the proprietor tolerates poor Roddrick’s games there for practically nothing. Edwin’s not bad for a borthian but he’s too kind a soul for this world.”

“If you’re interested in honing your skills and helping out with our monster issues, I have a lead for you. We regularly purge the Chitter nests that form close to the furthest watchtower, just on the edge of the other half Reliquia, but recently we haven’t been able to find them which either means they’ve decided to move to the other side of the island or, and more likely, they’ve learned to move their nests further away and wait for us in ambush. Trip their trap and cut them down if you would. I’ll even throw in a bonus for you and your guild.” Rania offered. Cecelia’s quest log opened. The original quest, Thinning the Herd, opened and then it updated.

Thinning the Herd
Kill 20 Chitters and bring back their tails as proof.
Speak to Shaman Rania for a reward.

Rania’s Bonus: Increased XP, Increased Reputation
Share with Guild?
Yes No

“Sounds like you have your own share of troublemakers too, huh?” Cecilia chuckled, mentally noting down those names. Edwin and Roddrick. “I’ll be glad to take on your request though. Would you happen to know of any other work that can be handled while out in the wild? If my guild’s gonna be out there, I figure we may as well do all that we can, you see.”

There was a pause as she tapped the floating ‘Yes’ button, and then, the lancer continued, “Oh, for expediency’s sake, mind giving me the full name of this infamous Ranger?”

“Elwyn Gage. She wears black dragon armor specifically to contrast her hair so she’s hard to miss in that sailor’s haven.” Rania explained quickly. The quest log changed, adding Emergency Supplies to the list but a small notification beneath it read Insufficient Reputation where the bonus should be. “I heard Valrene was asking for supplies. Welkin poison glands if I recall. Nasty creatures, lots of innate magic, but not too hard to overpower. You can find immature ones on the shores of the river or the beaches just outside town and, if you want a challenge, adult ones are just half an hour walk along the beach east of Reliquia.” The Reliquia map popped up, pinpointing both Elwyn’s location in River Run and Valrene’s in the market. Pressing either of them would pull up their full titles, Elwyn Gage - Ranger Trainer and Valrene Vestrine - Alchemist Trainer.

“If you talk to Valrene, she may have some tips on how to handle them or how to extract the glands with more success. They can be incredibly territorial but when threatened, they band together pretty quickly.”

Cecilia responded with a wolfish grin. "A challenge is exactly what I want. And thanks for your help again, Rania. I'll get my own business out of my way and then break the news to my guild. Farewell, and may we both have good luck in leashing our wild ones."

For a moment there, she wondered if she should tell the Shifter Trainer to wait around for a bit, so River could ambush her. But eh, he could do that regardless. Turning her attention back to Aleut, the lilac haired lady smiled again. "Alright, looks like everything's simmered down now," she said, "So let's get back into this. I'm here to procure a couple new Actions before the night's up, Aleut, a mixture of Universal and Lancer ones."

“Of course, Ma’am.” Aluet nodded as two pages popped up in front of Cecilia, one for each requested list. Each Action had its appropriate cost next to it. He seemed to write something down on parchment behind the counter. “And which techniques were you interested in today?” Rania gave Cecelia a shallow bow as she said her goodbye, leaving the guild hall.

Cecilia's lips curved upwards slightly as she took in the sight of all the Level 15 Actions that had just been unlocked before her. Gosh, so many to choose, and so little money to spend with. Going all in was always an option, of course, but a new area would unlock new equipments for her to consider purchasing as well. And she'll need to upgrade her Sewing Kit too. New materials to gather up and use. But materials were fleeting, and actions were forever. Especially when they were passives.

So the lancer didn't hesitate at all.

"I'd like to start by procuring Blood Thirst, Ultimate Bounty, and Trip from the Universal list, as well as Pole Spin, Strong Arm Push, Counter Swing, and Falling Comet from the Lancer list, please," Cecilia said, her rich girl aura sparkling off her as she discreetly removed 2025 Renn from her purse. The last battles have made it clear that she needed more utility now, utility and greater sustain. Kira could go on with her whirlwind in the frontline, and Karuu should be the one dealing with the high armored targets anyhow.

Cecilia flinched, ever so slightly.

Karuu was dead. Nevermind. They'll have to find someone else with the STR necessary to forcefully bust through armor. Either that, or she'll have to get that much more well aquainted with Shield-breaker Jab. Armor dampened the effects of each individual hit, after all. Things to keep in mind, for sure. Start speccing Strength again. There was no real need to rush towards 100+ Agility.

As she waited for the transaction to go through, the lancer shot a new message out into the guild chat.

Ding dong, guess who it is? Ceci's back with another hot take on the most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes of Reliquia. Now, Holly, I heard from a reputable source that the girl of your Ranger dreams, Elwyn Gage, is right here in this town! She's a dashingly roguish archer in black dragon armor, with a spicy relationship with the Hand of the Shaman Chief, Dracion Wildbron himself. You'll probably find her at River Run though, the sailor's area, so good luck! If you wanna appeal to her, get ready to throw some dice!

Oh, River, dunno where you're headed too, but the woman you've been dreaming about for this entire month, Shifter Trainer Rania Hathorne, has just left the Guild Hall. Go get 'er, tiger! She's had a pretty wild encounter with a rampaging Prome, so if you appeal to her with your competence, normal personality, and your monster notes, I'm sure she'll be all over you! Fight hard, my dude, cause she's a cool one. Watch out for that strawberry blonde perm and big gold earrings, and you're golden!

While I'm on the roll with these desirables, WiWi, there's this lady by the name of Valrene Vestrine down by the market, who's like, the alchemist trainer...but more importantly, we can nab a quest from her as well! Something about getting Welkin Poison Glands? I'll be busy getting a buncha new Actions, but hey, it feels like you're just drinking alone right now, and fresh air is always healthy, so...wanna go check out the market? Crazy how these people seem to just work from morning to midnight, huh? lmao xd NPCs dun gib fucks about labor laws.

Anyways, that's all for now. Keep me posted 'bout Prome! At this rate, he might try to do his subclass stuff solo and immediately run out into the wild!

Burning love! <3

Aura was miserable. Well, it wasn't exactly the first time that she was miserable, but oh boy, she was miserable now and she was gonna own it. Like many others, she had equipped her raincoat, and even though it did keep her dry to some extent, it was tiny for a fully armoured Paladin. She had to awkwardly keep her shoulders tilted backwards so as to avoid ripping the coat, already strained over the large plate armour. Then she had to run in that haphazard posture, her hair fizzling up when lightning smited those around her. Nonetheless, she managed to make her way to the closest inn, sit down in a nearby corner and sulk.
She wiped off the remaining water off her armour and blew her bang out of her eye, though it landed right back on with a wet slap. She growled and clumsily pulled it aside with her gauntlet, and sighed. No use in self-pity, though it was quite tempting. She should get a room before she ended up sleeping in the stables or something, and then sulk.
She approached the counter, and briefly contemplated her options. She didn't have too much Renn, but she was also very enthusiastic about not being struck by lightning. And an actual bath. "Lodging for tonight, please, with a hot bath." She looked down the menu, then shelled out 12 copper coins. "A stew and water, also."
As she waited for the lodging and food, Aura watched a group of adventurers...converse. With a loose definition of the term, for a few members. In truth, Aura had recognized the names when she first entered the inn, as she had ran with them on MMORPGs a couple of times prior. She was never close with them, but at least it was better than running with randoms, right? She glanced at the girl who loudly claimed something about her powers "awakening", or whatever that meant. Maybe not. But the last time she went in a dungeon without a proper team...Aura sniffed the non-existent sewer smell. Yeah, she'll probably have to bank her chances in a proper guild. But first, she wanted some actual food.

All guild members got a notification as Cecelia hit “Yes” on the quest bonus.

Rania’s Bonus: Increased XP, Increased Reputation

Willow got Cecelia’s message just as she finished her meal, content to let Holly and River drive the conversation. She shook her head when River asked about seeing enemy stats. She could only see health and mana, nothing else. It was likely linked to his monster knowledge skill, much like reading the in-game language was linked to linguistics. Looking over the message, Willow chuckled at Cece’s enthusiasm. Well, she had more of a goal now than finding her subclass Trainer.

”You two go ahead. I’m going to hunt down Prome and look into this other job Cece found.” Willow waved them goodbye and headed the opposite direction after pocketing the room key River offered and leaving several copper pieces on the table as tip.

Outside in the light drizzle, Willow took a hard left with the intention of intercepting Prome. She didn’t particularly care for Cece’s suggestion that she was “leashing” Prome but… that’s probably pretty close to what she was going to do. She hurried out towards the bridge, checking the Reliquia map the game conveniently unlocked, and she reached the bridge with nothing to show. Cece said she should be able to intercept him but apparently Willow missed the Tinker. She quickly typed out a message to Prome.

Prome,

Check in please. Cece said you just ran off and after the last fight, I don’t want anyone alone for too long. Where are you?”

Meanwhile, still inside the inn…

“Course. Comin’ right up.” The man at the counter grabbed a key from underneath it, number 12, and tossed it on the counter in front of her. Stew came out shortly as well as the water and, despite not ordering it, a tankard of Ale alongside it. The man shrugged as he did, jerking his head at the mage net to her.

“Looks like you’ve had a rough one. Thought it might help take the edge off.” The guy said, deep in his own tankard. His name read Aleka, short spiky white hair still damp from the rain. A brown cloak hung from his shoulders and her wore a simple green tunic and breeches and a staff leaned against him. “Manage to make it through the floor boss alright? Or did you take the cheap way like me and wait it out?”

Like most other houses in the residential area, Ratshrew’s home was quaint and small on the outside but lacked the customary plant growth. It had obviously been cleared away and the walls washed and repainted. The door had a small plaque with Professor Ratshrew cut boldly into it and brass knocker hung just beneath it. A muted murmuring and light footsteps could be heard before the door opened and a woman stood in the doorway, clearly weary and disgruntled at the late interruption.

“Are you aware of the time, sir? Tis about time to snuff the candles and place away the books, much less receive visitors.” Rowina snapped irritably. “If you’ve shown up at our doorstep without a foot in the grave, I’ll make sure that there is how you’ll leave. Now out with it. Why are you bothering us so late?”

The trip to the docks was uneventful, the rain having let up further since the lightning subsided. The streets were still muddy and more players adventured out of their inns to explore for a while. In the moonlight, it was clear this town was once abandoned and probably only recently reclaimed. Plants still covered most buildings and almost all the paths were still dirt. Few areas had a cobbled ground, mostly only around the transport gate. Several warrior NPCs wandered the town, casting suspicious looks at all the adventurers.

The docks themselves were massive and a number of large vessels were docked there. Looking past them, the silhouette of an island could be seen further up the delta. That was where the Shaman’s hut was located according to the man. A brief search would reveal a small dingy tied at the far end and a sleepy fisherman dozing in it. Reaching him would unlock a prompt.

Travel to the Shaman’s hut for 3 copper?

“A pleasure doing business with you, Ms. Tonitrus.” Aluet beamed, transferring the Renn beneath the desk. “Is there anything else we can help you with?”

Several other adventurers filed their way into the guild hall, laughing and joking with each other as they approached the counter to fill out their Actions and Spells. Despite the losses, most people seemed to be reveling in the fact they were still alive. Grief would come tomorrow but tonight was for the living.

Prome prostrated himself before the women "Oh wise sage of machines, I have come seeking your teachings! I beseech you; bestow upon me the knowledge to create wonders beyond comprehensions. I have walked though a field of slaughter and blood, and survived through fortune alone. I need to acquire the power to ensure such horrors never happen again! To lay low my foes before my allies can be slain!"

"Thanks for the offer," Aura said, pushing the tankard gently away,"but I don't drink. First time someone asked me to drink was the last time anyone asked me to drink." She distinctly remembered the day. She was new to the college hiking club, and they had some sort of initiation or ceremony for her. A part of that was unfortunately, downing glass of local beer. She tried to dodge out of it but the club members insisted...and well, she tried to find out afterwards, but no-one was willing to tell. But she could tell from ruffled looks and disturbed glances that whatever she did, her brain probably expunged it to preserve her own dignity. So she took it as a cue to never touch the stuff again, even in-game. Just in case she would do things that were...less than ideal.

She took a few drinks of the stew, and let the warmth spread down through her body. Phew. She felt a little less downtrodden, though now that the fight was over, she felt the fatigue onsetting. She did take a beating during the fight, being one of the minority of paladins defending the injured players. The playerbase, she noted, was tilted heavily towards the more flashy, offensive classes, resulting in a severe lack of tanks and defensives. "I dragged a bunch of injured guys out. If someone didn't shield their sorry asses, who will?" She flashed a faint grin. "Though now that I think of it, hanging back was probably the smarter option, hah."
"Anyway," Aura said, finishing up the rest of her stew, swallowing temptations for second helpings, "think I'm gonna join a guild quicksmart, before I get screwed over by randos. Know any good ones?"

River

As the pair made their way towards the docks, River received two messages. The first was a system message stating
Thinning the Herd
Kill 20 Chitters and bring back their tails as proof.
Speak to Shaman Rania for a reward.

Rania’s Bonus: Increased XP, Increased Reputation
Shared from: Cecelia Tonitrus

”Well then, looks like we got our first quest on this floor. Kinda excited to see what these chitters that everyone keeps talking about are. I’m guessing some form of vermin? Perhaps gigantic rats? Or rat hybrids, maybe some massive bugs like chiggers but the size of dogs. Either way it gives bonus experience as well as a reputation bonus so I’m down.” River was practically beaming from ear to ear, new floors meant new adventures and new adventures created newer memories to help forget the morbid ness of this death game. After all, what good is being trapped in a fantasy if you cant make some good memories along the way?

His thoughts were interrupted by a second message, a much larger one sent by Cecilia in the guild chat. It made sense that she had run into the trainer Rania at the guild house, seeing as how the quest that was just displayed across his screen seemed to have come from her. Taking note that the trainer had left the guild house however, made him wonder if perhaps they were on the way back to their hut where he could hopefully catch her.
”Thanks for the tip Cecilia. I’m heading to her hut now to see if we can cross paths so i can pick up my subclass finally. Thanks for the quest too, should help us gain a few levels so we don’t struggle too much on this floor. You and I should go on a stealth mission first, try and see if I cant get these Chitter stats before we engage them, just Incase they have a nasty trick up their sleeve.”

With that out of the way, River accepted the 3 copper price for the ferry over to the Shamans Hut, excitement washing over him with every passing second.

Cecilia flicked through her own status, checking to see if anything was missing on her own end. There wouldn't be, of course, not when it was the system that enabled such transactions rather than actual human interaction, but old habits died hard, and being rich didn't make her financially illiterate. Nodding once, she reciprocated the receptionist's smile. That was more or less everything she wanted handled for now, as it were. Maybe a bit of shopping too. See if it'd be necessary for her to check out the Alchemist woman in Willow's stead. Amber eyes glanced towards the newer arrivals in the Guild Hall, more adventurers spilling in now that the storm had left the town. Once solemn, once grave, it was now becoming quite lively, wasn't it?

Hm, maybe...

"Mm, Aluet, would the Arena be open around this time as well? I think I would very much like to try out what I've gained in a safer environment, before bringing it out onto the field."

“Probably a wise choice.” Aleka laughed as he stole the tankard back. He took a sip of his own, frowning as he thought for a bit. “Guess it depends on what you’re looking for. There’s any number of them, ranging from massive tiny. The Heaven's Oath is one of the largest currently, with around fourteen hundred members. If you want something a bit more… risky, there is the Legion of the Wolf. Rumor has it their leader pushed to go after a few red players for some reason and people in the process so they need to replenish their ranks. A group called Last Genesis just lost their Marauder so they’ll probably be looking for someone to replace it. Their members just peaced out of here in fact. Mage girl, Archer, Trainer just headed out after fiddling with something on their dashboards it looked like. Mage went left, the other two went right if you want to talk to them.”

“Is this a poor jest? Are you babbling for no reason beyond your own amusement? Pretend to have some command over language and try that in some sense of coherence this time.” The woman snapped, all but ready to slam the door in Prome’s face. “And quit groveling like a hound at the table. If you have a shred of self respect, right yourself and speak plainly.”

“Yes Ma’am. It, like us, is always open and its training grounds available for use. You may not find a sparring partner at this hour however. There area few training posts available for use on the second floor of the arena if you’d care to practice there.” He explained, a detailed map of the Arena springing to life on her dashboard. The main floor held the Arena proper, a massive room with a large sand pit in the center. The second floor was dedicated to training and a weapons rental area was marked. The training dummies were close by. The third floor was pure black and labelled with ????.

The third floor…now, that was interesting. Her curiosity was definitely stoked by the blackened area. Was it forbidden? Was it merely unexplored? Was it a special private residence? But exploration right now wasn’t something Cecilia was wholly down for, and she’d rather work up a healthy sweat instead. Tire herself out enough that she could fall right the hell to sleep.

“Oh, don’t worry ‘bout not me not being able to find anyone,” the lavender-haired lady spoke, winking, “Us girls know how to make do.”

With that, Cecilia turned to the rest of the people who had gathered there. Some of them looked more worn-down than the others, but most of them were sane, most of them weren’t in a rush. The night was getting late, after all, and unlike a certain fluffy-haired mechanic, none of them had energy that bordered frenetic. She took a deep breath, recalled the vocal lessons she had before, pictured herself as the perfect Firestarter: bright and bold, a smile like the sun, with the charisma to draw everyone in with words alone. She was already a woman of uncommon beauty, and she knew it. If she couldn’t draw the eyes of every player in this room, what future did she have as an actress?

None, that’s what.

Standing with the stormy sea as her backdrop, Cecilia spoke loudly and brightly, gaze focused enough to give the impression that she was looking at every person individually. “Good evening, fellow adventurers! I am Cecilia Tonitrus, of Last Genesis, and honestly? After all the crazy stuff that had just happened, I’m definitely not going to be able to get any sleep at all, and I’m sure you all share the same sentiment. But we have new actions and spells to try out and new equipment to break in, and a brand new Arena to make our home! This, then, is what I propose. Let’s set up a round robin tournament! Every participant pays 100 Renn to form a prize pool, and the person who walks out with the most wins also walks out with the most money.”

A smile, blindingly confident with an undercurrent of competitiveness. “Have fun, get good, and maybe earn a whole buncha money. Can’t see any better way to cap off the night, to be honest. So, what do you all think? Wanna fight me?”

Prome got to his feet "I am but a humble Tinkerer." He began "I have heard that you can guide those who walk such a path to greater mechanical mastery. As such, I have journeyed here, to seek your wisdom and teachings" His breathing was slowly becoming steady and his hands were shaking less, even though his eyes retained the same crazed look in them

“You lot are all the same.” Rowina sighed, opening the door to let the Tinker in. The space beyond the immediate entrance was a small living room, a couch and two chairs around a small coffee table. Two bookshelves framed a window and a fireplace recently quit sat smoldering still. The kitchen could be seen to the right and a short flight of stairs would take people up to a study and a bedroom or down into what was presumably a basement. Rowina tugged on a thick rope just barely in reach of the fire place as she stocked it back to life. Muted jingling could be heard upstairs, scuffling and muttering accompanying the sound.

“You’re the one we’ll see tonight. Can’t be up at all hours and still put things together without them exploding after all.” The woman sighed as she got a fire going. “Now what exactly are you looking for? If you’re coming to us, you’re looking to specialize but we each have our methods. Guns and explosives? I can teach you a trick or two. Something a bit bigger, more complex? My husband can- Speak of the devil.”

“Yes, enlighten us my dear boy. What grandeur do you plan to provide this poor world?” Alfor Ratshrew clumped heavily down the stairs, a delighted smile on his face at the sight of a fellow Tinker, drawing another sigh from his wife. Even if the boy only wanted Rowena’s expertise, it would be with a hovering husband and another hour of work to get him back into bed. “Are you trying to reach the heights of the Windswpet Ribbons or dive to the depths of the Viscken Whirl? Survive the tempestuous Friliand Flames? Come come. Tell us what majesty you intend to impart with vision, imagination, and gusto!”

There was some muttering among the forty of so adventurers milling around the guild hall, none of them immediately taking to the idea. One man however, stepped up adjacent to Cecilia and grinned. “Come on, you yellow bellied curs! Riches and war? What other ways can we work off a little stress before we lay our heads down to rest? How will you be prepared to take on the day if you don’t practice and why put off until tomorrow what can be done tonight!” The player, Gauis, grinned as fifteen others agreed, all focusing on the money.

“Lead the way, fearless leader. We’ll all be snapping at your heels on the battlefield soon enough! Gaius chuckled with a slight bow. “I can’t wait to see what confidence brought this about. I hope you can dodge a bullet.
