Name: Coyote Briggs Gender: Male Age: 24 Appearance:
History: Coyote was born in Seattle, WA, to a neglectful mother and an absentee father, and lots of time to himself to ponder his situation. He was something of an unruly child, growing up without much in the way of boundaries or limits on his behavior, so he ended up having to learn those lessons himself. Sometimes the hard way. As things piled up, and Coyote's behavior became unacceptable, his father finally took notice, and tried to find a more constructive outlet for his son to pour his energies into. Remembering his own rowdy youth, he had an idea, scraped up what money he could spare, and bought Coyote a well-worn acoustic guitar for his 14th birthday, with the promise that he'd actually learn to play it.
To everyone's surprise- not the least of which Coyote's own- it started to spark a change in the young man. For once in his life, even if it wasn't perfect, he had something beautiful to call his own, to use. He started slowly, at first; stumbling plucks at the strings, hesitant starts and abrupt stops. But as his practice continued, and his skill grew, it became clear that Coyote had an innate gift for music. It wasn't perfect, and there were still troubles every now and again. But for once in his life, he had something worthwhile to pursue. Through his skill and hobbies, he even met others who shared his interests, finding his first real friends, and hitting upon a brilliant (supposedly) idea: to form a band. And so, with a little stumbling here or there, the band Bones was brought into being.
Throughout high school, and just after, Bones played at every venue they could book in Seattle, everything from bars to birthday parties, and anything in between. They played at "battle of the band" competitions, making a name for themselves on Seattle's independent scene. Eventually, however, it became clear that Bones was never going to get any bigger just playing for drunk clubgoers or wedding guests. It was Coyote who found what could promise to be their big break- a national competition in New York, where the grand prize would not only give them the means to live comfortably for quite a while, but where their victory might even get them noticed by someone with clout in the industry- enough to get them into a proper recording booth, at least.
So, guitar in hand, Coyote and his bandmates boarded a plane, headed off to seek their "destiny," or whatever. Little did Coyote know, however, what destiny actually had in mind for him...
Personality: Aggressively cheerful, Coyote is loud, brash, and never shy about speaking his mind in the slightest. He's fiercely protective of those he considers friends, especially his band, Bones. He may have trouble reining in his passions sometimes, but he never means any harm in it. Not intentionally or directly, anyway. He particularly has a fondness for good food and drink, especially when he can share it with others. Despite his loudness, Coyote is a fairly intelligent and thoughtful sort in his downtime, with a special interest in science fiction and/or urban fantasy novels when he can find time to read.
He's a surprisingly picky eater, being a line cook at his "day job."
Abilities: Coyote can play both bass and guitar proficiently (acoustic and electric alike), and is passable on drums and vocals. He's also a decent brawler, given a chance to show off.
Stand As of the start of the RP, Coyote's Stand has not manifested yet. When it does, however...
Name: 「Hellbent」 Namesake: Hellbent by Mystery Skulls Appearance: 「Hellbent」is a humanoid gout of purplish-black flame, wearing black cargos, a black hoodie sweatshirt, and a stylized skull mask over its non-existent face. The hoodie has skeletal accents on the ribs and arms, with stylized wings on the back. Personality: Exuberant and mischievous, and often difficult to control. Likes to steal small trinkets and draw them into its and Coyote's soul, making it theirs. Type: Close-to-mid-range
Destructive Power: B Speed: C Range: D Durability: D Precision: A Developmental Potential: B
Ability:「Hellbent」can generate ghostly flames that can give just about anyone some serious burns on their own, but their true power is their ability to be infused into any nonliving matter or object. By doing this, the matter or object is drawn into the user’s “Pocket Hell,” allowing them to shape and enhance it in myriad ways. For instance, a pile of rocks or a trash bin can, with time, be molded into a weapon. Enhancing a knife makes it more durable and gives it a heated edge. A handgun now has unlimited ammo and shoots fire bullets, and so on. Since said items are now part of the user’s Pocket Hell, they can be stored along with the Stand, in the user’s soul.
There are limits to this power, however; infusing a ready-made item is much easier than altering unorganized matter, the more complex the object, the longer it takes to infuse, and the larger the amount of matter, the more energy it takes to finish the job. To infuse an object also requires the Stand to be touching the object for the entire process- if they were forced to stop for any reason, they’d have to start again from the beginning of the process.
@EnterTheHero Character accepted, provided you keep in mind the stuff about stamina discussed already. Your bandmates are your companions to control in your posts, if you like.
Alright, this is my first character in a while, hope i didnt make the stand too powerful/headache inducing.
Name: Katsuro Takuma
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Appearance:
Katsuro is slim and lightly built, along with being slightly shorter than most people his age. Not exactly unattractive, but rarely bothers to take care of himself enough to capitalize on it. Oddly enough, this only applies to his face, as he has a tendency to dress rather smartly. This is more a force of habit than anything else. Any attractiveness he might have is often ruined by his personality. Hes also half British, which results in his blond hair. Hes picked up the accent.
History:
Katsuro was born to a high up executive of an extremely large property development company in Tokyo. His father divorced his mother shortly after he was born, and, after a while, Katsuro found out why.
His mother was extremely domineering and emotionally abusive, treating her son like a glorified pet, forcing him to dress, act and even speak exactly how she wanted at all times. He grew up with tutors and never knew the company of other children, save only the children of the other company executives, which he met every now and then at gatherings. She wanted him to follow in her footsteps in business and drilled into his head that he needed to be pragmatic with dealing with other people, being careful never to rely on anyone too much and seeing opportunities wherever he could. This, coupled with his education, wealth and (he thought) good looks, caused a feeling of superiority over others.
However, when he was fourteen, his mother's company began to face issues. They had never been a very ethical group, but when they began to lose money, they got more and more vicious, threatening people off their land and using lawsuits to take what they wanted to just name a few. Its widely believed they began consorting with Japanese organised crime at this point.
Needless to say, the police were trying to put a case together, but kept hitting dead ends. This all changed however, when a whistle blower released documents that implicated the company in a firebombing of one of its buildings two years before, where they had claimed the insurance money and used it to get the company out of a tight spot.
The entire board of directors was arrested, and after a fairly sensational media circus, nine out of the fifteen members were found guilty of various charges, including fraud, tax evasion, arson and assault. They were all given sentences between eight and fifteen years. Katsuro was sixteen when the trial ended, with his mother being given a eleven year sentence. She had set up a trust fund for him when he was four, and the police found no evidence of the money coming from criminal dealings. He lived with his father for a while, before moving away on his eighteenth birthday, planning to travel.
He visited his mother in prison once. He was forced to leave after laughing at her.
Personality: Katsuro is extremely quiet, and is fairly easy to mistake for someone with social problems. This is true, but not in the expected way. In reality, he refuses to talk to people simply because he considers almost anyone around him to be utter simpletons who spend their time talking about irrelevant nonsense when they should be working to make something of their lives. He apparently earned what he had, so that makes him better than them, in his head. He doesn't necessarily hate people, just considers them irritating.
He wont think twice about manipulating someone for his own gain, and can generally put up an act of caring if it gets him what he wants. However, if anyone questions his pride or authority, he ends up becoming either a silent watcher or a venomous asshole. However, he does look fondly on self-serving behavior in others, the same way a person that look at a baby that just learned to walk. Despite all this however, he draws the line at someone else taking the blame for something petty he did. At least, as long as it wouldn't implicate him too much.
Yeah, hes probably going to get punched pretty damn quick.
Abilities He is very good at thinking his way through problems, and can even be quite a good negotiator if he puts his mind to it. Unfortunately, his constant arrogance can often ruin both of these things. Hes also surprisingly quick if riled up, but cant stay this way for very long due to being very unfit.
Stand
Name: Town Called Malice
Namesake: The Jam 1982- The Gift
Appearance: It doesn't have a technical "Appearance" ,as a side effect of its power renders it unable to be perceived properly even when Katsuro isn't technically using its ability. He doesn't know what it looks like either, only feeling a slight presence and voice behind his right shoulder. When others look upon it, it results in a similar effect to the blind spot in the eyes, where the brain makes a "Guess", as a result, it can appear as almost anything, for a split second before the watcher's eyes are drawn elsewhere. It is still vulnerable to attack, however, but the attacker is unable to see what they are hitting. Considering its incredibly short range, its generally more practical to hit its user instead. Katsuro has often tried many tricks involving mirrors and cameras to try and see what it looks like, only to get photographs he immediately loses or cant remember the context when hes looking at them. And then losing them.
Personality: Katsuro only hears it whisper, often giving him a sense of unease. Its not entirely clear if the stand itself causes this or its just a understandable side affect of a unknown thing behind him talking. It tends to give him advice, whether asked for or not, and often in a condescending and snarky manner. Its not above making dark jokes either. Although it cant be seen properly, it can be heard by people nearby perfectly fine. They don't like the voice either.
Type: Range Irrelevant
Destructive Power: N/A- All its destruction capability comes from Katsuro himself, so...not a lot.
Speed: A- It cant move (as far as anyone can tell) but can be summoned almost instantly.
Range: A/E- Its power revolves around the perception of people looking at Katsuro. The effect is the same whether the targets are standing in front of him or looking at him through a telescope kilometers away. Its range is theoretically unlimited as long as the target would otherwise tell that the thing they are perceiving is a person. Simply seeing a tiny shape on the horizon isn't enough.
Durability: E- You cant see what you are hitting, but you can hear and feel it. It doesn't take much to bring down.
Precision: A- See Range
Developmental Potential: A- When he originally got it, the stand only made him quieter and slightly harder to see. Its developed somewhat since then, and he feels it can become stronger.
Ability: Town Called Malice has the ability to completely "Normalize" the perception of Katsuro belonging to anyone who has him in visual range. Anything he does in the "Normalized" state is considered within expectation to the current situation. No matter what he does, says or tries to do, people will consider his action completely normal and therefore irrelevant to their own interest.
Yelling abuse at someone will be heard as a simple greeting, and a snarky answer to a question will be heard as a completely honest one. Should he harm someone, the target in question will believe that they hurt themselves, or a simple run of bad luck caused it. Any weapons used in this will result in the target believing they used it on themselves, or accidentally tripped and fell on it/set it off.
However, it has a fairly glaring weakness in that Katsuro needs to concentrate on "not being there" when his stand is in effect, he constantly has to believe that he is unable to be perceived, which can be extremely difficult in high stress situations, especially if he activates it for the specific purpose of violence. Also, if someone is alerted to the fact he is dangerous before the stand is activated, they will still consider him so during the "Normalization". Above all this, the stand's power cuts out after forty-seven seconds. If this happens, it requires a full three minutes and twenty-six seconds to be able to be used again.
@Vulkan Not sure I can allow that Stand in due to the way it interacts with combat. It would make it fairly tricky to plan encounters, but maybe there's a case you can make for it?
Sorry I was a bit distracted by something this week. Since posting has stopped I'd say it's time to advance events and give y'all something to write about.
