The Valentines are explaining to Emily why they did what they did, when Marin passes Emily on her way to the kitchen for a snack.

Emily was glaring. She was furious. She called them quite a few mean and nasty names. Her language was certainly foul. But who could blame her? Anyway, she was starting to storm out of the house when she bumped into Marin. She shoved her away, thinking marin was replacing her, and she started to leave the house.

Marin raises an eyebrow and steps in her way, and catches her arm. “Woah, there. A few deep breaths, that’s all I ask for. Smart people do stupid things when they’re angry.”

"I am more than angry! Do not touch me!"
Emily snatched her arm back. There was more than just fury behind her eyes. She stepped back from her.
"Get away from me!"

The door swings open, Damocles standing on the threshold. He doesn't say anything. Just watches from under his hood.

Hurt flickers in Marin’s eyes, and she sighs and steps back. “Fine. As you wish.”

Emily was in tears. She felt like her whole world had come crashing down around her. She fell onto her knees. She was sobbing. She could no longer trust anyone or anything that she one thought she knew.

He raises one hand, soothing her with magic. "So much sorrow, over such a small thing."

"small?!"
Emily stood up. She was becoming furious and such once again.
"You must be entirely selfish not to see what has been stolen, the betrayal, the dishonesty, the unforgivable!"

His hand ignites in blue fire. "Would you rather I strip your town of their souls, lives, and families? Compared to what I could have done, this is a small thing indeed."

"who gave you the right?!"
Emily shouted. She was worked up again.
"You are nothing more than a soulless monster! A beast with no heart! You should never have been allowed to exist!"

His eyes burn in his hood with cobalt flames. "The right? Might makes right, and I am one of the most powerful sorcerers to ever live. My soul is as real as I am. You're half right about my heart though. It doesn't work how it should." He laughs at her last statement. "I've lived though many ages of man. Your kind is so short lived, yet you think yourselves the center of the universe." He says nothing about her comment regarding his existence.

Emily glared.
"Go back where you came from!"
She attempted to run off. But, something kept her from leaving.

He laughs softly. "I may be strong, but even I can't control time."

Emily groaned and sat up after falling to the floor. She glared.
"Place! Not time! Idiot!"
She was shouting. Her parents gasped.

He laughs. "My home is gone."

Emily glared.
"Then just leave!"
Her voice practically shook the house. Her parents gasped again. They were soon glaring.

His voice turns quiet, sharp as a razor, and cold as ice. "No."

Emily glared.
"Get. Away. From me. Now!"
She stood up. She wasn't afraid of him. Suddenly, her father pushed her towards the fiend. She gasped.

He gently pokes one finger into her forehead, and wave of his dark, conflicting emotions hits her like a hammer.
