The 23rd century would mark the end of the world as we knew it, through whatever cosmic or divine forces, a small red dwarf was discovered to be on a collision course with the Solar System. Humanity had a few centuries to evacuate the system before the earth would be rendered unhabitable and humanity all lost.
Through their combined efforts, many scientists across the globe had devised a radical, yet hopeful solution to ensure mankind’s continued survival. A Jump Gate, an experimental superstructure that could theoretically propel a vessel dozens of light-years in a matter of weeks, however, for it to work as intended, the Jump Gate would require a second one for an accurate jump, the time needed to built and deploy a second one being impossible.
After many years of construction work, the Jump Gate was fully functional, alongside a great fleet of cyrosleep vessels made to ferry as much earth life as possible off to the beyond.
One by one, each vessel was sent out via Jump Gate to their planned destination, a possible Earth-like world a hundred light-years from their location. For safe precautions, each sleeper ship’s A.I Has been tasked with locating a world suitable for human habitation so as not wonder aimlessly in the void.
Many centuries have long since passed since that day, there was one fatal flaw in the program, the AI controlling the sleeper fleet had deemed the planned destination unsuitable for human life and continued to search the stars. Nearly a dozen, maybe a hundred times they searched across the galaxy, only to be met with failure. The fleet kept on their journey until they had far left the bounds of the milky way.
Long after the earth has been rendered a hollowed husk, the sleeper fleet finally discovers suitable worlds, far from the milky way.
The fleet finally arriving to its new destination, an isolated star cluster that orbited the milky way, a literal island in a sea of nothingness. The star cluster held a wide array of habitable worlds, a small handful of them earth-like. The sleeper felt splits apart as the AIs aboard direct their respective vessels towards the nearest unclaimed world.
Once they arrived, the passengers had finally been awoken from their long sleep, unfortunately only to discover a fraction of the total population had long since died in cyrosleep, a day of both mourning and celebration for the survivors.
And as far as the sleeper crews were aware of, they were the last remnant of humanity. Simultaneously dozens of worlds had been settled by the sleeper ships, completely unaware of one anothers survival.
However, in their ignorance, unintentionally established a vast Jump Gate network that would prove to be beneficial in the end.
As the centuries pass since their arrival, humanity makes two important discoveries, that many more of their kind survived, and that indeed, we are not alone.

Its been YEARS since I last made an NRP, hopefully I'm not too rusty at this. Anyway, welcome to Eden! A small-scale space NRP set in a small star cluster orbiting the milky way, over several hundred years after humanity arrived to the Eden Cluster.
