I assumed the manor or palace or whatever they lived in would be just slightly removed from the town, and hopefully close enough for the vermin to infiltrate, but I might be wrong about that.

It wouldn't be unusual for a lord to live in a mansion at a more secure city, and then he just sends goons out to his villages to collect his tithe. Especially if the minerals at the village is as valuable as Kath and Ashara were told, the man could probably afford to live so far away. None of the militia there seem particularly loyal to him, so it's not like the guy stations his own goons to even protect the place. Just goes to show how disconnected he is from his own people.

I was just thinking, since in Overlord the Floor Guardians refer to their creators by their in-game name in full with seriousness, how exactly would Mamoru pronounce {| || || |_}? Loss his the name others will call him because typing his name out is annoying, but Mamoru wouldn't do that. Would she basically say "Bracket-Vertical Line Vertical Line-Vertical Line Vertical Line-Vertical Line Vertical Line-Underscore Bracket"?

I'm planning for my next post to be a bit of a time skip just so Salem isn't stuck languishing in the past. I wanted to know what juicy pieces of information have become common knowledge, specifically:

1.The tiff between Graft and Chuunitrixx (are people gossiping about this, or are the involved parties keeping mum?)
2. Rodias' intent to replace the nobility of Amberden

Assuming the vermin replicates have been created and implanted with Salem's eyes, Salem will have spent a good amount of time watching the town. Being bored, Salem will have begun remodeling part of the City of Lost Things (just rearranging houses and such) to fit the layout of Amberden, creating a 'simulation'. Salem will then plan to invite Kath, Ashara, and Rodias to 'marvel' at the replica. Whether or not Salem knows that Rodias plans to usurp the duke or whatever, having a layout of the town would help with infiltration.

1. isn't really a "tiff", I'd say its more like, a meltdown on one end and a callous dismissal on the other. But, it would definitely get people talking. Especially since Kath was involved.

2. Rodias' plan is until the update going to be known only to Charme. But, if you want, you could have Salem infer that given the focus on espionage Rodias is taking. Despite being a sneaky rogue, Rodias isn't very subtle.

Rodias so smrtz! Telling the resident hermit about his plans, knowing full well she doesn't know the slightest bit about anything going on outside her little room... Such a clever boy~

Poor Kath, she is now the center of gossiping Chateau-folk all over the Chapters! ... Except Graft's Guards don't really gossip, or talk... And Ashara's priestesses are too respectful to bad-mouth Kath... And the Bone Butlers are too butler-y to make rude remarks... And Salem's minions are too busy tearing each other apart to gossip about other things... And Gromgard's goblins are too goblin-y to understand what gossip is... And Isolde and her minions don't care about gossip... And ... You know what... Apart from Chuunitrixx own mimics and maybe Kaldrona's vampires, I don't think anybody will be talking much about it now that I think about it... xD

Yeah I imagine the gossip is largely among the higher level characters. All of our servant mobs are a bit too mindless to really be used as common rumor spreaders.

Though then again, it would be funny if it turns out the skeleton butlers do all have a certain amount of unique personalities and do actually chat and gossip either during or off work, and they're just super professional around others. Bone Daddy certainly would've given them enough sentience to do so if they wish as long as they do their jobs.

Though they also only speak in what is called "bone chatter" which is like an undead language specifically for skeletons.

Isn't that usually what people gossip about? Things that are bad and annoying them? People who did stupid or mean things to you? I mean, as far as the mimics are concerned, the whole thing was essnetially Kath's fault, even if it was unintentional, so it seems natural that blame should fall on her from their point of view. Of course, Graft is also to blame - in their eyes - but that much was obvious.

Something along the lines of:

Toaster Mimic: "Can you believe what that witch did?"
Mailbox Mimic: "I know right! She ruined errything!"
Toaster Mimic: "Bringing that man into the Queen's domain! And revealing the Heirs!"
Phonebooth Mimic: "Darn-low despicable it is! Coming here and insulting the Queen for borrowing her books, then stabbing us in the back!"
Mailbox Mimic: "Dragstabber!"
Toaster & Phonebooth Mimic: "Dragstabber!"

Something like that?

The only Mimics smart enough to do that are the Upgraded and Overseers, and they have more important things to do. Like, restoring order to the Standards, who are just going savage inside of Enderall or docile outside of the Chateau.

EDIT: Sentries and Proxies, which would make up an inanimate object, like a telephone or a toaster, can't even talk.

I think the ideas that the gossip would be fairly minimal (or that it would have a hard time getting to Salem's ears) are valid. I doubt kath or anyone else would voluntarily go up to Salem and be like, "Hey, guess what happened!"

@Lugubrious I think that since Kath technically only gave a verbal description to Graft of what the local vermin looked like, there might need to be periodic updates to the 'look' of the vermin. Specifically, once a handful had been created and placed under Salem's control, Salem could sneak them into town at night, overpower a sampling of the vermin, and bring dead and living specimens back to the Chateau for Graft to make exact replicas rather than ones based off of a verbal description. I think this would necessitate Salem and Graft working together somewhat, so would Graft be loquacious enough to mention the incident, or at least be in a sour enough mood that Salem would notice something was wrong?

Kath gave him a verbal description over Open Link first, but later gave him the book she had written which included hand drawn pictures and any samples she may have stumbled across like fur that had fallen out and such.

@Stern Algorithm if Salem wants to construct a replica town and needs 3D visualization to do it, Salem could use Graft's prototype terrain imager. Just sneak it in or close enough to the tab, activate it, and cheese it before thr horrible noise it makes brings any unwanted attention.

To be fair, depending on how the RP goes, I've definitely been floating the possibility that Salem goes full Skynet and comes to hate all living things.

But the main thing is I'm trying to give Salem a reason to work with one of the Chapter Keepers involved with the incident to at least have a clue about what's been going on in the Chateau, since I'm trying to catch Salem up to the current time.

Sorry for the double post, I meant that Graft might prefer having a physical 3D rat or bird to examine to make better replicas than ones based off of Kath's drawings.

Salem is really only making the replica of the town out of boredom and out of their tendency as a doll to imitate and mock life, so probably wouldn't go for the HD 4K high-fidelity that Graft's device would give.
