The story of a Little Pioneer Town in a Fantasy World.

| A s t r a i a |

Colonial-Early Industrial Era // Low-Limited Magic // Low-Limited Intelligent Races // Open to World Development
The planet that this story's setting is called Gaia. The intelligent races that occupy it are the ambitious humans, the hardy dwarves, the free-thinking elves, and the mystical orcs. Most of Gaia is still unmarked on maps as the continent of Astraia is large enough for the four races to each have their own territories, and is rich in resources to be utilized equally among them. There has been a number of wars in Astraia's past, but it's been hundreds of years now that the races have lived in peace- allowing civilization to begin flourishing out to the borders that once remained unexplored by the Astraian people. The year is now 1200 d.d and the country has reached its first Industrial Revolution thanks to the dwarves, coal-fueled constructs are now starting to be invented though still quite rare.

Old Western Thematic // All Jobs Are Needed! // Sign That Dotted Line!
Hillhaven was recently founded by Cresta Dustwallow. It's location is nestled just beyond the Mosscrag Mountain Range, which was only fully explored a few years ago due to its dragon infestation. The valley Hillhaven finds itself in is quite beautiful with its countless rollings hills, grasslands, forests, a few rivers, and a large lake which the town itself was built right next to. Cresta herself had been a bit of an adventurer in her youth, serving in the Wyverspoon military before taking off to explore the dangerous corners of Astraia. She is known to be one of the few people responsible for the world's map growing in recent years, but alas those days are over and she now seeks to settle down and live a quieter life. Not wanting to plant her roots in any of the preexisting settlements in her country, she decided to claim some of the land she herself helped find, and with the help of some upstart investors founded Hillhaven. The town is fairly small and still growing, but with its growing population- more buildings and structures continue to claim the untouched land over time.

| I n v i t a t i o n |

"--Greetings potential resident,
Hillhaven is a newly founded region and settlement in Northwest Astraia just beyond the Mosscrag Mountain Range founded by Cresta Dustwallow. The environment is lush with flora and fauna still yet to be discovered, our town while newly established is placed next the beautiful Sharkspear Lake with a fishing villa constructed for our townsfolk needs. While the town is still not fully constructed we are hoping to fill a number of jobs and roles that you, the recipient of this letter meet the criteria of. We of Hillhaven offer you a hefty some of land of your choice to build your new home upon, if it's not already claimed by another.

A new beginning. A new life. A new adventure. A place away from the constraints of growing civilization.

We hope to see you soon in Hillhaven.
Sincerely, Iz Ah Bel

It’s another town sim roleplay on the guild! This one’s primary influences are going to be Stardew Valley and Rune Factory, with the western-pioneer theme splashed in for some originality and the fact that my friends thought it was cool. I’ll be making Non-Player Character roles for any jobs that don’t get filled, but the less of that I have to do- the better.

GM post speed will be on a weekly-biweekly cycle, if that’s too slow for you then this probably isn’t the premise for you. I’ll also be encouraging romance, intermingling for the sake of intermingling, and also just building the lore of town since it’s pretty new to the world. The group size of Hillhaven could be five characters or fifteen, the direction will sort it be molded by that and some of the player choices along the way. Speaking of player choice, autonomy is going to be super-mega encouraged and while the GM will be doing their bestest to keep things moving forward. The Heart Meter will start gray and work up in points by having other villagers participate in hobbies you enjoy, or by giving you stuff you like- with some checks and balanced to prevent them from bribing you into marriage.

Another quick thing before you get to the character sheet! The world history is intentionally a little vague, not due to laziness but because I’d rather some of the people interested help build the world alongside me. Give me your ideas. If you want to build, I’ll give you a hammer!

Definitely interested in this, happy to help with some world building. Happy to fill pretty much any role.

Is there a particular reason the area wasn't populated previously or if it may have become depopulated at some point, might be helpful for plot hooks.

@The Hobb
Feel free to ask questions, pitch ideas, etc.

The mountain range in the image was too much of an inconvenience to traverse for a long time because of the dragon problem. So anything past those mountains “they’re called the Mosscrag” was untouched until recently.

Loved playing stardew valley. So I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Also, How many jobs can one individual have e.g. Person A is an innkeeper. Can Person A be the merchant as well?

Yay, more questions!
@Searat So yes, you can but I’d prefer if it makes sense for the character. So if you’re a hunter you could also be a butcher & leatherworker or something of that ilk! Feel free to ask me anything else.

Color me very interested!

In regards to weapons and magic. I'm assuming weapons will be similar to colonial period Great Britain (ie muskets, etc). How is magic going to work in this world, exactly?

@Blubaron45

Muskets are what most common folk have, but dwarves will sell revolvers and other artisan-made gunpowder weapons if you pay them enough. I will say that guns are more so used for killing people than creatures, the fantasy shows up more so in the wilderness than in your neighborhood.

As for magic, in the world we’ve written up it’s actually the Orcs who discovered magic first. The mysticism is more reliant on rituals and spell-circle construction, requires ingredients and carefully said words rather than pulling magic stuff to emit fire from your hands like a superpowers. Shamanism is the Orcs thing, they commune with earth and nature- try their best to understand animals and learn from them what they can. And as a result the fruits of that effort is things more akin to warping surroundings, controlling the plant life by asking it for help, etc.

Anyone have any character ideas already? I'm personally thinking rancher myself, probably horse focused but may expand to other hooved animals if no one else wants to do that.

I'm thinking either sheriff/deputy or a cook.

OOC will be up in the early afternoon! If anybody has questions, I’d be happy to answer them- I’m funneling them into a FAQ on my OP.

Sheriff/Deputy or Courier struck my interest immediately, but would also consider a tough Blacksmith/Carpenter lady.

@Haha question for you! You mentioned you would fill some roles with NPCs if needed. Is it alright for players to have NPCs too? For example if I wanted a stablehand for my rancher but no other players were interested, could I create an NPC...?

@Yankee
You can definitely make your own NPCs and adjust their heart meter to fit their story with your character’s, if it makes sense. So a stablehand that came to Hillhaven with you to help maintain the unicorns- a-okay with me!
