[OOC] One Piece: Foreword Unto Dawn

North, South, East, and West Blue. The four oceans that divide the world and the continent that is the Red Line, all split by the Grand Line. For years, these natural barriers have kept cultures confined to their islands, with only the dreamers of the world daring to set off to sea in search for something more, something different, something worth bragging about. And so man built ships to sail and nets to catch fish to fill their bellies, and soon ports around the world opened their taverns and their customs to travelers of the world, drinking ale and singing songs of women, wealth, and wonder. In this world, a man's dream is only a reality if he has a reliable ship to carry him, and a reliable crew to count on. For there are islands yet untouched by man and riches hidden deep beneath the waves. But it is those who journey with you that matter the most... They are the ones whom make the journey worth it, the ones we laugh with, break bread with, the ones we love.

But in this world of dreamers, the freedom to dream is not always free. It is a world governed by fear, ruled by the World Government and the World Nobles, known as Tenryubito, wielding the mighty hammer that is the Marines to keep all would-be pirates in their place. And those that do defy them have bounties placed on their heads and are hunted to the ends of the earth in the name of Absolute Justice. Do the ends truly justify the means? Is the ruthless judgement of those who set out in search of freedom even if it means breaking the rules a necessary evil in this world, in order to prevent total chaos? Surely the world would simply become subject to the authority of the strongest pirate crew and forced into submission if it were not for our brave Marines fighting the good fight day in and day out, would it not? It matters not what you believe, for this is how the Tenryubito see fit to govern the world. And should you think about rising up or joining that band of misfits that is the Revolutionary Army, than good luck to you. Best case scenario, you're a pirate on the run with a bounty on your head, struggling to feed you and your crew while you search for riches and glory. At worst, you're branded a revolutionary dog or an evil pirate and tossed in Impel Down, the world's highest-security prison. And yet, despite the odds, there are still those who dare to dream, who dare to strive for greatness, who strive to live freely and go against the grain, even if it costs them their lives.

In this One Piece universe, you can be whatever you'd like to be as long as you don't reference any canon characters or events. All events and characters from the One Piece anime/manga have never existed and never will exist here and you have all of the locations and powers to choose from but it has to be made into an original character with an original background. So no "Son of Zoro and Hiyori" or anything like that. All races are open except Samurai from Wano at the moment. Human, Fishman, Mink, whatever. You might get discriminated against in some places, but I won't limit anyone to just the human race. That'd be no fun in a One Piece RP because being creative is half the fun. You can be from whatever ocean you want, it matters not, because we're all gonna be starting at the middle at Reverse Mountain heading into the Grand Line.

I'd like to start with three crews to begin. I will captain one of the crews. Two other captains may step up, first come first serve. If this gains a lot of interest, I'll expand the number of starting crews. These first 3 pirate crews will be like the 11 Supernovas of the Worst Generation, scaled down to 3 for this RP. The captain and crew will decide which sea they will start in based on where your characters are from, and will head up through the Calm Belts into Reverse Mountain and the beginning of the Grand Line. At this point I will control random events that happen along the journey and I'll provide islands you guys come across, directions you could take, etc. Lotta things can happen on the open ocean, and you gotta be prepared for them, so its good to have a diverse crew, but at the beginning I'm sure crews will not have EVERY role filled and will have to compensate within the story. Don't have a cook on board? Gotta catch some fish or find something to eat. Don't have a shipwright on board and your ship got damaged by cannon balls? Gotta fix that! Not to say the story will be scraping by for these necessities, not at all, but it will help drive the story at the beginning until we get to the fun stuff.

Okay then. So for Devil Fruits (just gonna abbreviate it to DFs from here on) you can start with a DF, though you will not be able to start with strong Haki then. Those without DFs will have better physical skills and more freedom with Haki and equipment to start with. I'll include a list of already taken or banned DFs below to help with character creation. Both Marines and pirates can have Haki and DFs, obviously. You can play a pirate or a Marine, or anything really as long as you think you can fit it into the story. You can be the leader of the Revolutionary Army for all I care as long as you have a couple people in it with you.

Also, I encourage multiple player characters seeing as it would take way too many people to fill out 3+ pirate crews AND the Marines. So if you want to fill out a bio for your main PC and then kinda just give me a basic CS without a ten page history for another crewmember or side character that you have an idea for I'm totally good with that. Same thing if you wanna play a Marine and a pirate, or be on two different crews, I'm fine with all this. And if you guys have any ideas for future locations, want to help with world-building or lore, or just generally want to help contribute to where the plot of this will go, just message me. I'm on Discord. I'm cool with wherever you guys wanna take this. I have a good idea of how I'm gonna start this and where to take it at the beginning to make it fun and interesting for everyone, but I wanna know what everyone else's story looks like too. That's the point of One Piece that Oda tries to tell, its a funny travelling tale. That's it. That's all One Piece is. And that's all this is. Haki

Haki is the energy, chi, chakra, or power source of the One Piece world, and the strongest form of combat besides Devil Fruits. There are three forms of Haki, and if you have a DF you can only start with the basic level of one form of Haki. Non-DF users can start with two and have better control over them. In general as a rule of thumb, non-DF users have more natural physical gifts, more freedom with their noncombat and combat skills, whereas DF users will be more limited in their combat skills at the beginning. Also, DF users CANNOT SWIM unless they are a fishman like Jack and even so those instances will be severely limited, I will not allow a dozen "my dads mom was part fishman on her father's side twice removed" types running around breaking the system.)

Just checking in on everyone from the IntChk making sure everyone's on board. Also still accepting new people, I'll wait for at least a few character sheets to be approved before posting the IC. Currently working on my own first two chars before I even write the IC so >.>

Also besides the characters I'm making to play myself, I'm also going to have to play a rather large roster of NPCs to include townspeople that our adventurers will meet in the islands they visit, some sort-of-fodder Marines (some of which may be recurring and be more than just simple fodder), villains for the island, and some higher ranking NPCs in the beginning that just serve as plot movers. Like you know, you might get a glimpse of an Admiral/Yonko early on, but it'll be more of a tease than anything. For obvious reasons, I won't be creating a CS for every little side-character I create for the sake of the plot.

ATTN EVERY1: You can start from whatever corner of the world you'd like. There will be 3 Pirate Crews to start unless we get a sudden influx of people. I need 2 more people to step up and make the Captains of the other two crews. If you'd like to make a character on my crew, lmk we'll collab on something cool ^_^ I also need some help playing the Marines. I know June messaged me about a Marine, that's good, rank-wise I'd say we're looking at one or two Vice-Admirals and lower. Promotions will be given throughout the story. So we will not be using Rear Admiral, Commodore, Commander or any of the sub-rankings for Marines. Looking for most Marines to start as Captains or Lieutenants, and to rise through the ranks as the story progresses. The wiki states that Marines use the buddy system with a higher ranking Marine and a lower ranking member being partnered on a ship to complete tasks assigned by higher ranking Marines. So basically this is how it'll work. Admiral (or Vice-Admiral) will delegate missions to say a Captain, who will be paired with a Lieutenant to go off and complete that mission, say for example a bounty is placed on a Pirate's head and they've been causing too much havoc recently so they need to be dealt with. That's the gist of it.

Any questions? Also PM me to reserve a DF, already said it but I'll say it again just so I don't have two people making a CS at the same time for the same fruit and then one person gets sad when someone else claims the fruit first. CHECK THE RESERVED LIST PLS :)

Title: Shipwrecker; Sea Lion

Ghus' infamy began at the island estate of the Showmanners, a wealthy family from the North Blue who found their fortune in the carnival and circus industry. Ghus was meant to be a headliner in one of their newest shows. Although in the Grand Line and New World, despite being rare, many were aware of the existence of Minks. However, in the seas before the Reverse Mountains, they were merely some sort of myth, if not just a strange creature. This was the perfect place for Ghus to show himself to the world. As he was introduced to the massive crowd that had gathered, he flashed them a smirk before breaking free from his chain bindings and causing havoc. Sparks of electricity emanated from his body before letting loose a heavy blow, breaking the main pillar holding up the tent they were in. As he fled, at the harbor, Ghus rammed through a few ships leaving holes and broken frames before diving into the sea. His bounty continued to increase as he sunk the ship of every bounty hunter and marine that crossed his path.

• Shipwright: Ghus’ proficiency in carpentry and knowledge on various ships are all thanks to the few years he spent working for the shipwrights of Fishman Island. There he learned not only how to repair and build a ship, but also wreck and dismantle one; it was part of his job description.
• Fisherman: Born at sea and living most of his life either above or under it, Ghus was eventually going to learn the skills necessary one needed to survive. Although his abilities as a navigator were novice-like, to say the least, his capabilities as a deep-sea fisherman was quite different. Even before his time at Fishman Island, Ghus was fond of diving deep into the sea, in raging waves or thunderous storm, in search of something to either eat or fight against. Basically, he’s an incredible swimmer and is knowledgeable when it comes to marine life.

Ghus is approximately ten feet tall and weights around three hundred and twenty pounds.

Personality: In a nutshell, although bright-eyed and thrill-seeking, Ghus is extremely straightforward and often tactless. Some might consider him arrogant or prideful, but its usually just him speaking his mind. An innately hard worker, Ghus often overworks himself to achieve whatever he sets his mind to; this also leads to his stubborn nature to creep out from time to time. Not one to succumb to his rage, he sometimes lashes out when upset or over petty issues. His loyalty is something not easily gained, making him quite strict and stern even among allies. Against adversaries, although calm and collected, it isn’t usual for Ghus to break out in laughter as he shows little to no mercy; fighting is something he obviously enjoys.

Laugh: Ashishi

The english onomatopoeia for seals and sea lions are “ow ow” and “arf arf”. No japanese one exists, so I went with the japanese term for Sea Lion, which is Ashika and derived his laugh from that.

Birthplace: Whitey Peak, New World

Ghus comes from a tall artic, snow-filled island close to the Red Wall. This is the home of a Mink tribe that prefers and thrives in cold climates. The large mountain in the center of the island is igloo-like in appearance and is surrounded by incredibly frigid waters. The only means of food here are the fishes that live beneath its frozen, slush-like waters. The process of “fishing” usually involves breaking of the thick ice above before diving deep beneath the thick and opaque waters. This type of environment left this particular Mink tribe without much choice but to adapt, making them amazing swimmers and tolerant to the cold.

History:

So begins the tale of the Ghus the great, sinker of ships, lion of the sea, one of the greatest pirates to have lived, but before who talk about how amazing he was, we must first know where he started. Ghus was a Sea Lion Mink from the Whitey Peak Isle in the New World. There he spent his days as a deep-sea fisherman for his tribe, like his father before him, supplying his people with the most succulent of sea creatures he could get his hands on. Unfortunately, at the young tender age of twenty-four, Ghus was taken from his home; not by pirates, marines, slave traders, or even a freak storm, but a hungry and massive sea king. Although strong in his own right, Ghus could do little to escape from such a behemoth. He spent hours bathe in what was probably gastric acid and, in that time, Ghus could only ponder on the thought of the life he had lived; the unremarkable and mundane life that he possessed. Being swallowed whole was the most exciting thing that had ever happened to him. As his own stomach started to growl, his will to live had suddenly been rekindled. Mustering as much strength as he could, Ghus began gnawing away through the stomach of the sea king, hoping to rip through it a a last ditch effort to survive. In the end, Ghus lived, but sadly, it wasn’t due to his genius-level plan, but a several serrated blades carving the sea king from the outside. Ghus’ saviors were shipwrights from Fishman Island; unbeknownst to him, this was going to be Ghus’ second home.

A few years had passed, and Ghus found himself a new calling. Although it did take a while, he was now a resident in Fishman Island. When he wasn’t out scavenging for shipwrecks or helping travelers with their ship-related problems, Ghus would be an asset to the community and helped out in driving off stray sea beasts or pirates, or by assisting the local fish mongers. Don’t get me wrong though, Ghus still had his flaws; he was a mean drunk and always picked fights against anyone, be it pirates, fishmen, merfolk, and sometimes soldiers from Neptune Army. He’d spend a few days or weeks in prison, but he always managed to get back on his feet. However, history had a habit of repeating itself and for Ghus, things started to stagnate; his life despite being more exciting, was becoming repetitive. Luckily for him, Ghus immediately knew what he wanted to do. After hearing all the stories of big-time pirates that roamed the seas, Ghus realized that he wanted the same for himself. To be known throughout the world as one of the greats. One thing led to another, and he managed to get himself off Fishman Island and in a ship heading straight out of the Grand Line. After calling in a few favors, Ghus was auctioned off as a slave to a wealthy family in the North Blue. There he managed to escape, destroy the city in his wake, and set sale on his adventure.

Goal: Ghus has grandiose dreams and aspirations, namely becoming a household legend. He want’s people to tell stories about his adventure and accolades, whether relating to fame or infamy, for generations.

Special Skills: Ghus’ ability to use Observation Haki and the range that it possesses is innately enhanced by his Electro. He can perceive the electrical currents that occur around him, be it organic or inorganic. In fights, this allows him to predict movements much easier and detect the presence of others around him, making surprise attacks easier to preempt. Ghus' haki was awakened while he was inside the sea king's stomach; he thought he was going mad since he swore he could feel the movements of the fishes that were around the sea king.

• As its name suggest, this fighting style was mainly influenced by Fishman Karate, but also takes inspiration from Fishman Jujitsu and Merfolk Combat; Ghus is a fanboy when it comes to martial arts. It makes use of the water-manipulating skills of those from Fishman Island along with their mastery with polearms.
• Ghus thrives when fighting in water, making use of his superior strength and stamina, along with his electricity and swimming speed to take out his opponents as fast as possible. However, out of water, Ghus is more reserved and makes use of more precise moves. What he lacks in volume of attacks and speed, he makes up with planned out and well-placed moves or counter attacks.
• Electro is used to supplement his strikes to catch his opponents off-guard or defensively against those that get carelessly too near. Although large bursts of electricity are an option, this type of attack doesn’t distinguish friend from foe.

Only question is what's Electro? Don't really see any details on what it is but you mentioned it twice I think. I'm cool with everything else, I like how you incorporated the electromagnetic currents with the Kenbunshoku Haki. Also could you link which FishMinkman Karate techniques he knows ? Also if he's a Mink and has a SPOILER Sulong form that'd be good to include. Sulong form is epic win.

@Seraphicide Hope you don't mind me joining in. I've been in a few short-lived One Piece RPs with Reflection and wanted to give it another go.

A couple of things about my sheet; I used the western naming order for this guy since his name would sound weird otherwise and there's some precedent with guys like Edward "Whitebeard" Newgate and Marshall "Blackbeard" Teach, although they are named after real people, and I replaced "Bounty" with "Rank" since I didn't see a good place to put it.

Also, is it possible to reserve a Devil Fruit if we want our character to acquire one later in the RP?

The Marines "Iron Bull"

Name: Ricardo Borja

Occupation/Skillset: Aside from being the captain of his crew, Ricardo is a somewhat decent chef. Although certain duties about marine vessels are handled via a rota, which non-skilled tasks handled by different crewmembers each day, Ricardo will often handle most kitchen duties by himself, claiming that he enjoys doing so.

Personality: Ricardo is a person who can truly be described as larger than life in a lot of respects and his personality is no different; loud, exuberant and with a cheerfulness that could fill a room, the eldest son of the Borja family often find himself the centre of attention. His noble upbringing grants him a certain bearing and poise, a refinement and awareness of social etiquette that many others in the marines lack, leading to Ricardo having something of a gentlemanly disposition.

As far as Ricardo is concerned there are few things in life as important, or which bear as much weight, as duty; duty to one’s family first and foremost, but also to oneself and to society as a whole. “Those who have the ability to do good have the responsibility to do so”; these are the words Ricardo’s father taught him as a child, the same words that have been passed down his family for generations, the words by with he lives. He owes it to his family to live up to their legacy, he owes it to himself to reach his fullest potential and he owes it to society to make use of the gifts he has been given, whether they be physical, intellectual or socially, to make the world a better place.

Pride is Ricardo’s biggest failing, though rarely is it personal pride. Pride in his family, pride in the marines, pride in those things bigger than himself that he serves; this pride blinds him to the failings of others at times, covering his eyes with a rosy tint that prevents him from seeing what is so blindingly obvious to others. He can be, at times, a bit dense.

Laugh: “Burururururu”. Buru is the Japanese word for bull.

Birthplace: West Blue

History: The eldest son of the Borja family, a minor noble family that has lived in West Blue for generations, Ricardo was taught from a young age that their privilege came with a responsibility; because they were more fortunate than others and in a better position to make positive change in the world, it was their duty not to misuse that power for their own gain, but instead to use it for the betterment of society.

These lessons might sound like a romantic fantasy to some, and in reality the Borja family probably didn’t live up to their own lofty ideals most of the time, but young Ricardo took those teaching to heart. As a boy he thought a lot about what he could do that would make a difference, but as a child there wasn’t much he could think of due to his limited knowledge of the world; all he knew was that he wanted to do something big. Although his family probably only meant to teach him to live his life considerately and without falling into corruption or vice, perhaps donate to charity or organise events, young Ricardo set his sights higher than that.

As Ricardo grew older it became increasingly obvious that he was going to be blessed with abnormal size and strength, being taller and broader than his peers and already as strong as a grown man by the age of 13. As he came to this realisation it became clearer that whatever path Ricardo eventually took would involve using his strength to help people; this idea was further cemented in his mind the first time he saw the marines in action, witnessing a fight between a small pirate crew and a detachment of marines at the port of his home town. From that day he made it his mission to join the marines and protect people.

At the age of 18 Ricardo enlisted at the 80th Branch Marine Base in West Blue, signing up as a simple cadet despite his background. Since then he has patrolled the waters of West Blue, working his way up the ranks until he became a lieutenant and was given command of his own boat and crew; for his brute strength and straight forward approach to combat he has earned the moniker “Iron Bull”.

Goal: Ricardo is not much of a dreamer; he has no real hatred for pirates in principle, so he doesn’t wish for a word without them, not does he have any grand ambitions like becoming Fleet Admiral or even a hero. No one individual has earned enough of his ire for him to want to see them fall or seek revenge against them, nor has he met anyone special enough for him to dedicate his life to.

His goals are to perform his duty admirably and honourably, to protect the people of the world from those who would do them harm, to make his family proud of the son they have raised and to keep his crew safe in his pursuit of all of that. In the future, maybe finding a wife and settling down would be nice, but anything beyond his current duties is something not worth wondering over at the moment.

Fighting Skills/Attributes
An all-out offensive assault is the only way Ricardo knows how to fight and it has served him well so far. Utilising his large and powerful body he rushes towards his opponents and crushes them, using a fighting style that is more brute strength than technique. When attacking he strikes with either his fists, arms or shoulders for the most part but there is not a single part of his body that he won’t use to defeat his opponent.

Even without the use of his Armament Haki his bulky form is able to withstand a large amount of punishment and he has a high pain tolerance and a stubborn disposition, allowing him to power through his opponent’s attacks to deliver his own.

Fighting Style: An overpowering, physical form of fighting that relies on his brute strength and large body to overwhelm the opponent. Relying on his Haki and physical bulk to weather any attacks, Ricardo focuses all of his effort into his offence instead.

Hmm, I should probably be careful with that wording. He's not intended to be from a family that's anything like the Tenryubito; just a regular old upper class family from West Blue.

For the fruit I'd like to reserve the Kumo Kumo no Mi/Cloud Cloud Fruit as a Paramecia type; it's not canon, but just in case someone has a similar idea.

History: The son of two mountain bandits, he left the bandit group at an early age as he was disgusted with how the bandit clan acted (pillaging / random property destruction and the more horrid things he had witnessed) so stealing his father’s prized guns and his mothers sword Atsushi ran down to the nearby port and was able to stow away on a merchant ship.
After getting to the next island he was picked up by a mercenary guild where he was taught the skills and code of the guild – finally striking out on his own at the age of 16 (he was nine when he ran away from his clan)

Fighting Skills/Attributes: Pinpoint accuracy with guns, would make Ussopp and Hawkeye look like rank amateurs in comparison, he has been learning and training to duel wield his guns since he was young enough to hold them and fire shots from both guns at the same time (is also skilled at fast reloads as each gun only holds 6 bullets)
He is able with a blade (by no means to the same level as his guns) but has enough strength and stamina to match most in the art of a swordsman (but not someone of Zoros level, let alone Mihawk)

Fighting Style: Prefers to be at range to shoot opponents, but can handle a sword if he needs to, his main hand to hand combat style is judo, which he mostly uses to throw his opponents away to create space to resume his gun slinging.
