In particular they are trained in the use of senbon as close range engagement tools, and effective use of wire strings. The dexterity one must have to use these techniques means they are also excellent at performing handseals, though few important members of the clan know anything about chakra control. ▅ LEGACY While they are far from war heroes, many of the Surudo clan made up the ground forces of Kusagakure in the Second Shinobi War. As such, despite their recency, they are officially considered Kuge. Their rapid rise through sheer martial force has caused resentment from more established families, especially those of the merchantry or diplomats. VALUES Above all, this clan values 'strength' or 'power.' As it was started by a rōnin from the Land of Iron long ago, this began meaning only physical prowess. However, strength of mind, the power of knowledge, etc. have come to be valued as well. Overall it is simply the ability to dissuade direct combat through prestige, or failing that, the ability to fight. TRADITIONS » One does not have to be integrated into the clan through marriage. The defeat of the strongest Surudo of around one's age allows one entry. Once becoming part of Kusagakure, the Surudo had put the practice on hold, but debates are now frequent about allowing the process again to shore up numbers. » Before any particularly important fights or battles, a Surudo is obligated to pray to Yojimbo at the Yawahari. If the situation doesn't allow this, one must return to the Yawahari and disclose the fight to Yojimbo before the pass on. HEIRLOOMS Their are three heirlooms important to the Surudo. The two blades Heiwa and Tsuyo, as well as the massive senbon Yawahari. The Heiwa is a ninjato with a bright white blade and warm pink ito over a birch wood grip. The Tsuyo is an odachi, every bit of it jet black. The Saikyo should each always be carrying one in any public appearance, with the stronger of the two generally wielding the Tsuyo. The Yawahari was Yojimbo's weapon of choice after becoming a ronin, which he used as a sort of unwieldy spear. It is kept in the center of the clan's compound and routinely polished by young members. ▅ ORGANIZATION The clan is run by the 'Saikyō no on'na' and the 'Saikyō no otoko' simultaneously. These twin heads must agree on all important clan actions such as the punishment of traitors or the induction of new members. If the two can not agree, they must duel, with the loser conceding the decision to the winner. The Saikyō no on'na and the Saikyō no otoko are determined in a tournament of able-bodied clan members 16 or older. When one clan leader dies or is deemed unfit to continue their duties, the other clan head must relinquish their position as well. They are allowed to enroll in the tournament to re-prove their strength and keep their position, however. To deem a Saikyō unfit to rule, 3/4ths of the clan must agree so in a vote, or 1/3rd if the other Saikyō agrees they are unfit. If the Saikyō no on'na and the Saikyō no otoko are in a relationship prior to becoming the clan heads, they are strongly encouraged to cease these activities for the sake of better ruling the clan. A Saikyo can not willingly step down without the consent of the clan, initiating a vote similar to the unfitness vote. While he served a lord, it did not suit him, and after being commanded to kill peasants who would not fight back, Yojimbo forsook his master and his blades. He became a wandering swordsman, interested only in proving and improving his power. He journeyed south, into the land of shinobi, and while he did often he would come to blows with those who beset towns and villages. People began to follow him, and he taught them how to defend themselves, and carry themselves in such a manner to need not fight. When Surudo died, his students and friends took on his name, and became the Surudo clan. They kept their nomadic ways as they traveled throughout the land, scavenging or doing mercenary work to keep themselves fed. This was the way they would live for almost a century before the First Shinobi War began. Constantly they were mistook for enemies or caught in the crossfire. Many of their most powerful died fighting off the constant attacks or simply killed as collateral in shinobi village military operations. Severly crippled, they conceded their free-spirited ways and integrate into Kusagakure-- a close by shinobi village that had not attacked them. The two leaders at the time, Honoka and Isamu, succeeded in spinning this in a positive light. It was to be a new chapter in Surudo's history, with better equipment to train with, new techniques to learn, and more allies to spar with. Despite the loss of life, the Surudo were able to keep their heads up due to their leaders positivity. Things were slowly getting better for the Surudo up until the Second Shinobi War. Many Surudo felt it their duty to fight for their new home and prove themselves, Honoka and Isamu included. In the brutal six years of fighting, many Surudo were lost, Honoka included. Isamu was forced to step down as leader once wartimes ended. The clan heads that have stepped up now are a Kusagakure native, Shinobu, and Honoka's son, Takeshi. PRESENTLY There has been a hard split in the clan whether to support Kusa no Jitsu or Kusa no Hana ever since the Second Shinobi War. Takeshi, having lost his mother in the war, wants to keep things as peaceful as possible. Shinobu, her father's family having lived in Kusagakure for a very long time, is a firm leader that the only way to prevent constant fighting is to firmly stomp another Shinobi Village to show they are powerful and not to be trifled with. |

Chiton is a triad of Water, Yin and Yang release. The yang aspect allows users to harden blood, change the makeup of the blood and so forth. The yin allows the blood to be manipulated by the desires of the use, a medium for genjutsu, a poison that attacks the chakra network from within, an arsenal of weapons formed from pools of blond on a battlefield. The limits of Chiton are determined both by Jubokko and the user. SPECIALITY The Nagaichi are masters of Ninjutsu, they often have affinity for suiton and doton, but other elements are often exhibited, except for Katon. They struggle the most with Taijutsu because of their smaller frames. They are better built for speed and agility rather than brute force. ▅ LEGACY The founder of the current Nagaichi was among the seven orphans to to find refuge in Kusagakure after being the sole survivor in an attack on an unnamed village near Kumogakure. The Nagaichi have been stalwart among the other Honsei in their preference for blood to answer for blood, they see diplomacy in the same light as sniveling and believe Kusagakure should not be the ones begging for a war to stop. Outside of that they cultivate and sell the fruit from Jubokko amongst the upper echleons of society for a pretty price as a sort of "black market" trade, as eating the fruit has met controversy in the past. VALUES The Nagaichi value power and sacrifice. They view the two to go hand in hand in nearly every instance. For you cannot gain something without giving another. Some instances the sacrifice is small, a price of pain, lost time, money. Sometimes the universe requires a heftier price for power, a loved one, a piece of yourself, and so on. The Nagaichi see the sacrifices to gain power as honorable obligations and award those that make the necessary sacrifices. TRADITIONS The most prominent tradition is the Rite of Ascension for members of the clan to gain the kekkei genkai. The women of Nagaichi are not considered fertile, and many struggle to conceive one child, and two is something short of miraculous. Thus the sacrifice to strengthen the Nagaichi commences. When two children are born to the same mother and father the oldest will be set to "ascend" and the second will be the price for that acension. Under the Jubokko tree on the elder siblings 18th birthday they will fight their younger sibling under Jubokko, allowing the tree to absorb the blood and the chakra of their sacrifice until one is remaining. A festival of sorts is held after only a single son or daughter remains to congratulate the ascension and to reward the parents for completing their obligations. Two days after the Ascension battle the victor will take the only fruit on the low hanging branch saved for the members of the clan and eat it entirely in front of the Kōkina and the current Chimamire, and finally the acsension is over. HEIRLOOMS There is rumored to be a chakra blade hidden in the main house that only accepts fire nature chakra from a Nagaichi member. The rumors are in line with an old prophecy that tells the tale of the end and the new beginning of the Nagaichi through a fire weilding shinobi that cleanses the blood of the Nagaichi with the fire after it becomes tainted. ▅ ORGANIZATION The clan is headed by the Kōkina, which can be passed down only to those who have ascended. Usually the Kōkina have been from the main family but if couples are unable to bare two children then the title goes oustide of the main family. Under the Kōkina is the Chimamire, those who have ascended and have the ability to become Kōkina themselves. Under them is the rest of the clan, the shinobi who cannot ascend and the civilians are all treated the same. Documents and writings from the old days are insecure and hold many inconsistencies. There are writings about the pale shinobi with red eyes appearing on battlefields and ending wars, other sources claim they are descendants, cousins, of the Ōtsutsuki clan. The tales and rumors go on and on, but what the Nagaichi know as truth is they were once a nomadic group. They simultaneously belonged nowhere and everywhere at the same time. Where bloodshed stains the earth the Nagaichi have always appeared, and in that case it seems like fate that during the warring states period an orphaned wanderer was brought to a place ripe for years of bloodshed. The Nagaichi are devoted to the great tree of Jubokko, and sustain it with their own lives and the lives of allies and foes alike. In turn the Jubokko has gifted not only the clan but the village they have created a permanent residence in. PRESENTLY The clan is rising from the ashes of the second war. With the Kage killed in the battle and a replacement on the rise the time to tip the scales is offering a favorable outlook to the Seeds of Kusagakure, spearheaded by the cultivators of the village. The disruption of traditions have left some of the elders in the clan unsettled, a younger sibling besting an older one is miraculous and they fear the future the girl who is unlike the bunch of them will bring. On the other side of things rumors of the sales of Jubokko's fruit is spreading amongst the neighboring lands, requests for purchase from one considered allies and foes are flooding in, though no decisions to meet the demands have been made... yet. |

Few members are proficient in Suikawari Hiden Jutsu due to its complex chakra control. During the jutsu, the user pushes their chakra either through a bō (a medium most clan members use) or through their hands, creating an extreme force. The force of the chakra then pushes onto the target, breaking it. SPECIALITY Other than their hiden, members typically tend to be strong in taijutsu. The majority use bō, but there are always those who deviate. LEGACY The Ōsuikashiro are of the Honsei, a noble clan. Their founder is one of the original orphans brought to Kusagakure during the establishment of it. They pride themselves in their humble beginning and the sacrifice of their founders to bring Ōsuikashiro to where they are now. The clan has many political ties in Kusagakure, despite detesting politics, and they are very influential in Kusa. They are also known for being one of the richest clans in Kusagakure. VALUES The Ōsuikashiro care about three things: money, family, and death. With tales being passed down from generation to generation, the clan puts great emphasis on being frugal with money. Their humble origins are well-known throughout the clan to encourage members to pride themselves in family and to be careful with money, as their founder had started with nothing. In reality, the tales are only told as a form of propaganda to sway younger members to believe the Honsei are better than other clans and to keep the clan wealthy. Propaganda aside, the Ōsuikashiro have a strong relationship with death. They almost revere it, and treat it as a gift they give from themselves to their foes. They are very respectful when it comes to funerals and of the like. TRADITIONS » When a shinobi receives a promotion, they hold a celebration in which every member gives the shinobi a handsome amount of money. » If a member is on their deathbed, every one in the clan has to visit them. Even if the member has already passed, they cannot be buried until all of the clan visit their deathbed. HEIRLOOMS The main family has a lucky coin from the warring states period, a hole was punctured into it and it is said that it the coin saved the life of their ancestor. Each generational heir wears the lucky coin around their neck, with a black string pulled through the hole. ORGANIZATION Like most clans, the Ōsuikashiro have a main line that inherits the power of in the clan. The first born is always the one to inherit and are often groomed from a young age to take over their parent's spot. They have no preference for male or female. There are two other lines in the family, descending from the founder's three sons. One of the sons ruled while the other two advised. The advising positions are passed down in succession through those lines while the main line is from the first born of the founder. Thus, the advisers are cousins to the head of the clan. The two advisers can override a decision of the head if they are unanimous in deciding. He was a small boy with a proficiency for math and a crushing debt hanging over his shoulder after the death of his father. He sought refuge in the camps, before it was the Kusa, and outsourced his work to raise money to pay off his debt. At the end of his life, not only did he pay his debts, but he achieved great wealth through smart spending and money allocation. Hiraku was tired of fighting and believed in peace, wishing death would stop knocking on doors. He treated the dead with great respect and visited one’s deathbed whether they were a friend or foe. Never would he wish his descendants to become warmongers. The founder left his legacy to his three sons: Katsurou, who would inherit his titles, Kichirou, who would inherit his lands, and Yoshirou, who would inherit his valuables. The three combined their inheritance and officially became a clan under Kusagakure. Katsurou, having inherited the titles, became clan leader while Kichirou and Yoshirou advised him. Eventually the three of them had children, Kichirou and Yoshirou having sons that inherited their advising positions for their cousin, and Katsurou brought a prodigal son into the Ōsuikashiro Clan. Rikuto was a prodigy who lived through the First Shinobi War. After seeing how Kusagakure let everyone trample over them for their own purposes, even their own allies, Rikuto turned the Ōsuikashiro towards the Kusa no Jitsu. The violent faction fell in line with his politics and he instilled the same beliefs into his son, Yuudai. Now, Yuudai is clan head and a staunch supporter of Kusa no Jitsu. No one in the clan speaks of it, but Hiraku would be disappointed if he could see them now. PRESENTLY Yuudai has succeeded his father, Rikuto, and is continuing his work pushing Kusa no Jitsu’s agenda. His wife gave birth to seven sons, the eldest being Masanosuke and his youngest being Ryuunosuke. Having seven boys and taking care of the clan is an impossible task, and so Yuudai has come to rely on his wife to take care of the younger six of his sons while Masanosuke studies under him. |

Many Shishido ninja go on to specialise in medical ninjutsu as well, which is something the clan is particularly proud of. They are also known to use barrier ninjutsu in order to reduce as many casualties on the field, but during missions where the killing of their enemies is necessary, Shishido ninja are trained to use a bow and arrow to ensure death from a distance. Although ninjutsu is very rarely used, many Shishido ninja have an affinity for the fire element. ▅ LEGACY Since their settlement in the village the Shishido have always kept the welfare of the people as a high priority, offering medical services and charity where needed. Amongst their acquaintances in the kuge class the Shishido are respected for their genjutsu and medical expertise, but amongst their adversaries they are scoffed for their much softer and manipulative approach to fighting. Their influence on Kusagakure is undeniable, however; they established the first local hospital where the sick can be housed, and a few years following their arrival they rebuilt the village shrine after it had been left in ruins after the Warring States Period. Though their clan has been cut by half from the two shinobi wars, when the people are in need of aid, they can trust the Shishido to act fast. VALUES Due to their occupations as carers and supporters the Shishido greatly value kindness, fortitude and the strength of the mind and heart. But above all else they value loyalty, whether it is to their clan or to their village. The Shishido remain ever grateful to Kusagakure for taking them into their walls decades ago, and since then they have gone above and beyond to do what they can to protect the village and its civilians. But even when faced with foreign enemies, the Shishido remain steadfast and respectful to display their honour. However, there are some whose loyalties to the Shishido and Kusa have fallen out of balance; if it's for the welfare of the village, disregarding a few clan values doesn't seem so regrettable. TRADITIONS » Not all Shishido become ninja, with a majority of clansmen actually going on to become medical professionals or caretakers of the village shrine. However, it is required of all members to have basic medical knowledge, as well as a year’s worth of experience working at the shrine over the course of one’s lifetime. » Within the Shishido’s main family, only the eldest daughter of the clan head may inherit the position when their mother steps down or dies. Although most of the powerful positions in the clan are held by women, it is not unheard of to have men among these ranks too. » After a Shishido clansmen dies, the body is cremated and a bonfire is held at the village shrine in their respect. A kagura dance is performed by shrine maidens around the fire, which allegedly helps them safely pass on to the other world. The ceremony is open only to members of the Shishido clan, even if friends of the deceased outside the clan wish to attend. » In honour of the clan’s founder Isuzu, the Shishido throw a large yearly celebration at the village shrine on her birthday. In the evening two selected shrine maidens wear lion masks as they perform a shishi kagura dance, which is believed to protect people from evil spirits and ill omens. Although it was originally intended for only clansmen to view, the celebration has since been open for all to attend. » All the women from the main bloodline use kanji from different instruments in their given names. HEIRLOOMS Every time a new clan head is appointed, the rosary necklace once worn by the clan founder is given to them. The beads are quite large and made of a sturdy wood, and it is widely speculated that the spirit of Shishido Isuzu has kept it from breaking after all these years. However, it has shown a bit of wear in recent years. ▅ ORGANIZATION The Shishido are a matriarchal clan, so only females born from the main bloodline can be legitimate successors. Members of the clan's inner council are referred to as 'bells' or 'suzu'; there are twelve suzu in total, with the first, second and third suzu positions saved for the clan head and her two advisors. The other nine positions are for representatives from professions the Shishido have influence over. This includes war councillors, tasked with teaching the ninja arts and clan techniques to shinobi in training; medical councillors, tasked with overseeing medical practices and training in the village hospital; and shrine councillors, tasked with maintaining the village shrine and ceremonies both public and private to the clan. These positions are determined by experience and merit, so much of the Shishido council are senior members of the clan. Her village, caught in the crossfire of two warring clans, had been trampled into the dirt. The nearby ninja temple, the sworn protector of the village and the place she had once called home, had gone up in flames. Guilt overcame Isuzu, having been the only one to escape in all the confusion despite her pledge to protect her fellow villagers. But she quickly realised that grieving over her mistakes would not change anything; even amidst all the terror and bloodshed, Isuzu swore to herself that she wouldn’t let something like that happen again. Isuzu was knowledgeable in the ninja arts, and she made it her duty to protect those who couldn’t protect themselves using these skills. As she wandered through the country she healed the weak and fought for the vulnerable, and by the end of the Warring States Period, many flocked to the abandoned shrine she used as a place of healing out of gratitude or out of influence from her kindness and courage. Isuzu’s recognition eventually drew in more enemies that sought to use her talents for their own benefits, but she made sure her people were prepared to fight this time. Her followers were required to have basic medical knowledge, and those that showed potential for controlling chakra had Isuzu’s techniques passed down to them. Isuzu died a peaceful death surrounded by her followers and her successor, her daughter Koto, formally established the community as the Shishido clan. Although she led the Shishido as well as her mother had, Koto’s time as the clan leader saw much suffering and violence. Skirmishes between remaining enemies became more frequent around their land and soon the Shishido were forced to flee their home, a scene all too familiar to them. Months of travel led them to the recently formed Kusagakure, and in an attempt to end her clan’s struggle Koto offered the Shishido’s medical expertise to the villagers in exchange for settlement within the village. Over time their loyal services to Kusa during and after wartimes have earned the Shishido a high standing amongst fellow shinobi families, and though they have lost many clansmen to war they remain dedicated to their duties on and off the battlefield. PRESENTLY Five generations of the main Shishido bloodline are currently living under one roof, including the official founder’s granddaughter Shishido Biwa, who has lived into her hundreds. Her eldest daughter Sasara and eldest granddaughter Ichi serve as the clan’s elders, while Biwa’s eldest great granddaughter Sen is the official face of the Shishido. Although the clan claims to be advocates for peace, tensions have started to arise within the Shishido council over the future of their people, and whether ‘bolder’ measures should be taken in order to keep the clan and the village safe. The elder war veterans in the council have seen nothing good come out of the past two wars, and as such want to keep their peaceful ways. Some of the younger council members believe a change in their clan traditions is needed to reduce further losses to the clan, fearing that another war will devastate the clan beyond repair. Sen remains conflicted and is attempting to keep both sides content, but she knows she can’t stay neutral for long. With her youngest daughter Suzuki taking her eldest daughter Kotoko's inheritance after her untimely death, whispers of doubt and opposition keep the both of them awake at night. It is a tense time for the Shishido, and whether they decide to deviate from their traditions or stay true to them is up to upcoming events. |
