History: Born in Debrecen, Hungary to a relatively well off family and the first of three. He grew up Szalai's father was a geologist who worked with an oil company to find new oil deposits and was often away. Despite this Szalai would be close with his father and would receive letters from him when he could. It was during a family vacation to the western United States that would spark his interest in geology after seeing and then exploring the grand canyon. Wanting to learn about how it was formed and his father would help him along. Happy that Szalai was following in his footsteps.
It was at university that Szalai would show an interest in myths and legends of the world. After being introduced to it by a friend. Szalai would enjoy thinking about it. Reading about the many theories and locations like the Iram of the Pillars or Libertatia. Even if they may not exist, it was fun to speculate about and intrigued him. Szalai also planned to travel for a while once he was done and found a job.
After graduating while working for an oil company was lucrative. Szalai did not find it interesting or enjoyable and chose to pursue other options for employment. Eventually getting a job for a university in Vienna and moved there. After a recent trip to the Alps. Szalai would receive an offer to join an expedition to find Atlantis. Intrigued and excited for a chance to find the lost city. He accepted and was very eager for this expedition to bore fruit.
