Chas could see that John was actually using his moral compass on this one and not doing what he thought was the right thing to do out of being hot headed and thinking he knew best. Kay could also see how reluctant he was to do such a thing, which she did have to give him a lot of credit and admiration for. Kay also looked and watched as Serena walked away to the kitchen, waving off their words of concern and worry for her whilst listening to John's words, which she also understood. Hell, she understood it more than the two men probably did, having spent many a nights sometimes not sleeping and trying to stay awake for as long as she possibly could before her body just gave up on her. If she had truly thought about it, she probably would realise that the longest she went was four days which by that point she quite literally passed out in the middle of the street, causing havoc around everyone who in the area and ended up in hospital, much to her dismay and annoyance. So she did honestly understand what it was like to not want to go to sleep and feel like her guard was down.

Chas was in two minds about John making her sleep via magic, but he did think if it was truly the only way to go, then they'd have no choice and as Serena was acting at the moment, it was getting increasingly closer to that option. "I think you're gonna have to mate. I get why she doesn't want to but we might have no choice" Chas replied to him, before Kay stood up getting an idea, "Give me one more chance to convince her with words. I know what its like to not want to sleep for fear of dropping your guard, maybe I can get through to her if I be open with her" she suggested, "but if I can't with one example I have in mind, then like CHas says, magic is our only option. Bane got through to me in my head because of his newly made link with Fee and he was practically begging us to make her get some rest, so I have a feeling he'd be more than happy to have you use a spell on her to make her rest if it comes to it" she explained.

John nodded and said “go talk to her, I’ll get the spell ready. It will take me a few minutes. If you can’t, just tell Chas and I’ll let it go” he moved to the work room to start making the spell.

Serena was pacing in the kitchen, rubbing her temples. Her head was pounding and she was saying softly “just push thru it...if my theory is right...I’m her protector now...I can’t let anything else happen to her...”

Kay and Chas both nodded at the plan, before Kay decided to walk into the kitchen to see Serena pacing and rubbing her temples from her headache, which she was convinced would turn into a migraine if she didn't get any rest soon. "hey..." she said softly, gesturing for her to sit down at the table with her, as shesat down herself. "Look, I know you're being stubborn about taking some time out to rest but just listen to me for a moment yeah?" she asked of her, before going into her story. "I get why you don't wanna rest. More than anyone in this house realises. I've tried staying awake constantly so my guard wasn't dropped and lost. But Serena, it doesn't work, trust me, it really doesn't. Bane is only asking you to rest because he's worried about your well-being and so are we. I once stayed up and awake for as long I could, made it four days but in those four days I became more and more delirious and wobbly on my feet. I got migraines, blurry vision, and more and more unsteady on my feet. People passing me thought I was a drunk in the street despite not having any alcohol in my hand. By the fourth day I was walking down a street in the main town and I passed right out. Just dropped to the floor, hitting the concrete floor hard." she began telling the story.

"When I came round I was in a hospital bed with tubes in me as I was put on an iv drip to bring me back round, raise my sugar levels and everything else. Nurses tried to refuse to let me discharge myself, and it resulted in me having to sneak out. What I didn't know until I passed an off liscence was that I had been in the hospital for two days just sleeping. Because of my stubbornness wanting to stay awake so my guard didn't drop, I ended up in hospital and still putting myself and everyone in that building at risk anyway. So long story short, it's not worth being stubborn over. I'm begging you as a friend Serena to please get some rest. I'm with John and Chas, and when you're asleep those two wont let me out of their sight to keep me safe. I won't be able to live with myself if you cause yourself more problems for not sleeping. If I need you I promise I will wake you" SHe reasoned, putting emphasis on the word 'promise'.

Serena sat and listened to her story, understanding what she was getting at. She reached over and took her hand. “It’s not that I don’t want too...my whole
Life I have wanted to help people. I became a doctor so I could save lives...I lost my mother because an illness that couldn’t be even figured out...then came these powers. I can really help people from getting hurt in the first place. But I can’t stop now...we are getting answers to help you and make sure no one else is hurt because of those after you...and me now. I won’t let anyone die because of this...”

John looked at Chas and said “didn’t she say she had a boy friend? You don’t think...that anyone else is...” he cursed and said “it’s why she won’t sleep. Last time she did...she lost the love of her life...do I wait for Kay’s signal?”

Kay was glad that Serena was willing to listen to her say her bit, and even let her take her hand, which she didn't often to. She let Serena reply to her, explain her side of things, nodding in understanding as to why she didn't want to stop researching but still felt like it was a case of Serena being stubborn as ever, even though there was a blantant hint that she had already lost someone due to falling asleep and letting her guard down. "I get that Serena, I do. It's why I left my family, to keep them safe from whatever is coming after me, or wanting me as a weapon but I need you to rest and recoop so you're on your top game if you're to keep me safe. SO I'm begging you to please get some rest" she said, knowing it was pointless in begging her.

Chas waited as Kay tried to get through to the other woman, before turning to John and the theory making sense to him. SHe did in fact say she had a boyfriend but nothing about his whereabouts currently. "That would make sense" he replied, "and I'd say wait for her cue, which I think you're getting now" he replied to him, nodding his head toward the kitchen where Kay was discreetly using her free hand to gesture to John to do it now by swirling her finger round in a circular motion and pointing at Serena. "SO I'm sorry for this, I hope you can forgive me but it's for the best for everyone in this house and most importantly you" she said to Serena, letting john take over and make Serena get to sleep.

John sighed and walked in at her cue. Serena looked confused as she said “Kay what are you talking about?” John rested a hand on her neck and said “she means for this...” he moved his hand in front of her face and his hand glowed, Serena’s eyes glowed the same blue color. “John...what...” John nodded to Chas to come in and stand behind her.

John looked into Serena’s eyes and said “relax...it’s going to be alright...you are pushing yourself too hard...your about to crash...let us help you...” she nodded weakly and swayed as the spell took hold. John watched her closely and said “Chas...she’s going to fall get ready to catch her...” m

Just as he said said Serena swayed again and fell to the side, her eyes closing.

Chas followed John in as his assumption of Kay giving them the getsure for using the spell and forcing her to rest proved absolutely correct. He let John and Kay tell her that it was going to be okay and alright, but she did need to agree to rest before she crashed anyway. As John told him to move behind her, getting ready to catch Serena. He watched as the spell took hold of her and as she fell to the side, he quickly grabbed her and held her. "I'm gonna take her to the room she slept in last night" he told them both, making Kay nod before Chas did indeed leave the room and take her to bed.

Kay sighed when Chas left with Serena's sleeping body, "I feel bad having to force her to sleep but I know it's for the best" she told John. "I just hope she'll forgive us for doing it" she added. She k ew she had to rest herself, but after everything she didn't particularly want to be alone, especially after she knew if she slept alone she had nightmares.

Serena leaned against his chest and was out cold. She was light in his arms as he took her to bed.

John looked at her and said “we can get some sleep...I’m going to work a little on her if you want to crash on the couch. Chas needs to head home and I work better when someone is nearby so I don’t go into a work spiral...” he glanced at her, knowing the truth but giving her a way to keep it to herself and get what she needed.

Chas laid her in the bed and pulled the duvet up and over her, practically tucking her in as if he was tucking his kid in, before leaving the room, leaving the door a jar just like he did the night before. He figured Serena would prefer it if the door wasn't fully closed, and her shadows would appreciate it as well.

Kay didn't believe him when he said he worked better if someone was nearby but she appreciated the sentiment nonetheless, nodding. "thanks, think I will" she replied to him, standing up, "you're an alright bloke John" she smiled to him, patting his shoulder before walking back to the couch, just as Chas re entered the room. "right you two, I've put Serena to bed and left the door ajar so if she needs either of you you'll hear her and vise versa" he explained. "make sure you both get some rest as well yeah? I don't wanna be coming here tomorrow to find I have to nag you two to rest up as well" he smirked.

Serena curled up under the blankets, looking like a child for a moment.

John smiled at Chas and said “don’t worry, we will be on our best behavior” he winked at Kay and went to grab books and started his reading again. He paused and looked at Kay “Kay...has Fee said anything about what link there is to Bane or Nyx?” He leaned back in his chair, looking at her.

At Chas' words and John's reply, Kay couldn't help but smirk and roll her eyes at John giving her a wink. "good luck being with that one" Chas joked to Kay, before saying goodbye and leaving to head back to his family.

Kay walked over to the couch and sat down, pulling her legs up once again, still having claim on the blanket as she wrapped it round her shoulders earlier. She looked at John back and shook her head, "she's said nothing to me really since I came round. So I can't help you there. She's been pretty silent actually which, considering she nearly always gives me migraines when she talks, I'm actually glad about the radio silence so to speak for a while" she admitted to him. Sure, it was incredibly selfish but after what she just went through tonight, she didn't care she was being selfish on that one matter. "if she ever does I'll let you know though" she added, not wanting to come across as she would ever deliberately keep something from him.

John nodded and leaned back in the chair, putting his feet on the table. “Thanks, if I could have a chat with the Bane I would but I have a feeling Serena wouldn’t like that...before it sounded like she’s lost someone to all of this...you worried about her aren’t ya? She’s worrying me. I fear without her opening up she is going to spiral down...”

He rolled his neck and opened the book and laid it in his lap, reading more on the Greek myths of Nyx.

Kay listened to him, seeing where he was coming from as she too got the impression that Serena wouldn't like anyone talking directly Bane too much, but she also agreed that the woman needed to open up more. "a bit yeah...what she is doing right now is self destructive" she replied as she let him prop his feet up and go back to reading. As he did that, she grabbed the book she was previously reading about her own kind's mythology. It still felt incredibly weird to read about her own kind in some ways in a book, but the fact that her mother is no longer here, she really had no other options.
Yet she also felt like she had read enough after she got a couple of pages in, yawning and closing the book. Placing it on the coffee table, she let herself slide down the couch so she was laying on it, and closed her eyes. She knew she should just go to the bed, but she didn't want to wanting to see if sleeping in the same room as someone else like John would stop any nightmares from coming through.

It took her all of about five minutes to fall asleep and only another mere ten minutes before the nightmares came plaguing through her mind. Except this time it was threaded with memories of how her birth father changed when they lost her mother. In her sleep she started pleading and crying. "dad.... Please! Don't leave me! Dad! Don't, no... No...please!" she started moving in her sleep on the couch as if she was defending herself from oncoming hits.

John threw the book and jumped over to her, grabbing her hands and saying “Kay! Kay wake up love it’s just a nightmare! Kay snap out of it come on!” He sat her up against his chest and tried to wake her up, knowing she was scared and might react badly to being woken like this.

Up in Serena’s room a shadow moved and pulled blankets over her more, then moved to the door to see if their master was needed or not.

When John first jumped over to her, she didn't wake, instead almost fought him thinking it was her father who was attacking her, just like in her nightmare. Sobbing and shaking she couldn't shake herself out of the nightmare until seeing her father's hand come flying toward her made her wake up abruptly, gasping for air and looking at John as she tried to compute she was safe. It took a few seconds until she realised it was John holding her and not a threat, making her bury her head into him and grip his shirt tightly. "I can't break from him John" she sobbed, refusing to let go. She always felt so ridiculous getting like this at her age, but it didn't seem to matter what she tried over the years, her childhood trauma still tormented her.

"why can't I break free of him?" she kept crying, wishing there was just some way to get closure on her past properly. She also hated that someone like John was seeing her so damn vulnerable, as she didn't want him to think any less of her, as well as the fact she just really despised being seen weak.

John hugged her tightly, having a good idea what she was talking about. He said “it’s alright...just relax love it’s alright...the past is a nasty thing to get a handle on...I have my own demons I can’t seem to banish away...just take deep breathes...”

He rubbed her back and stroked her hair, holding her against him trying to comfort her the best he could.

Kay nodded slowly keeping her grip on his shirt, letting him just talk and attempt to soothe her. "you do?" she asked/mumbled. She did as he told her to and took the deep breaths he suggested, making sure her breathing got to a slow but steady rhythm so she could once again be calm. Eventually she started to calm down, her grip loosening on his shirt but she didn't shift her position once, instead finding his hold on her greatly calming. "I feel so stupid for still letting him get to me. I was 9 for crying out loud. I should be over it by now..." she said quietly, unaware that Serena's shadows were even up and around or thinking of seeing what was going on.

"the nightmares though.. I know they're my childhood memories but they get worse every time. Like they're changing somehow.. Just enough to make me barely aware" she explained. She shifted her head at this point so she could be heard better, but still resting against him.

John looked up and saw the shadows. “It’s alright, mates...she’s alright. Just a nightmare...” the shadows seemed to nodded and moved back to the bedroom. John looked at her and said “it’s okay...some darkness from the past never truly goes away...you learn to always bring a flashlight in time. It’s okay, I’m right here...” he tilted her face to look at him, smiling softly. “No need to be tough now...just breath and get your bearings...”

When he mentioned about carrying a metaphorical flashlight around to help with the darkness of the past, she couldn't help but smirk the tiniest briefest moment, as she thought it was almost ironic considering her ties to fire and could be deemed as a living torchlight. A blink and you'd miss it moment of a smirk. She didn't even take note of him telling the shadows that she was alright just moments prior. She looked up at him with her tear stained face, her grey blue eyes looking more grey than blue in this moment. Yet seeing him smile softly at her did make her smile ever so slightly back. "thank you John" she said.

John smiled and hugged her again, kissing the top of her head. “It’s alright...do you want to keep sleeping or maybe read some more? What can I do to help you feel better?” He moved back so he could see her face fully. He looked around and saw the shadows still watching. He smirked and added “seems like Serena is always there...”
