Looking through Off-Topic, I've noticed that the guild has had difficulty facilitating good, lengthy off-topic discussion (at least in the last year). Most threads tend to die out pretty fast, with little posts to boot. So, I got to thinking—what about a cartoon thread? There's always a video game or anime thread, but you really don't see cartoon discussion threads these days. And who knows? Maybe such a thread would be a hit enough to stick around for awhile and breathe some life into this section. There are certainly some great shows out there ripe for discussion, after all.

Without further ado, let's start this thread off with the perfect question: What was the last cartoon you've watched? Was it any fun/good/interesting?

Smiling Friends on Adult Swim is funny, and the upcoming Learning with Pibby looks like it absolutely SLAPS.

Hello, from one corn to another.

I still need to watch Gravity Falls, to be honest. There's a couple Disney shows I've missed out on mainly owing to the fact that I was primarily a Cartoon Network kid growing up. It's on my watchlist, however, since I've been watching a good number of Disney shows lately. The Owl House, The Ghost and Molly McGee, Star VS. the Forces of Evil, etc.

The last cartoon I watched was the new South Park episode.

It's been better

Is this the 2nd Covid special or whatever? Or is it something else? I haven't kept up with anything South Park in a long, long time.

I feel like I do better with animated movies, based on my attention span and very singable soundtracks xD I will have to check some of those out OwO The Owl House looks pritty.

Alright before I abandon this thread cause nobody knows what I'm talking about, I'd like to make an obligatory mention of Rick and Morty because I love that show. This season was an absolute fucking banger one.

The Owl House is decent (especially in regards to LGBT+ rep), but it definitely doesn't hide the issues that had been going on behind the scenes between the creator and Disney. You can easily tell where things were starting to be rushed in order to quickly wrap up the show. It'll be returning in March on the 19th with Amphibia, though, so that's at least some good news.

Also, if you're in the market for "singable soundtracks", I do suggest The Ghost and Molly McGee. I enjoyed it and all the songs in the show so far (plus there's some scenes later on the show I honestly never expected a cartoon, much less a Disney cartoon, to reference from).

I remember watching Star VS. the Forces of Evil and wondering why one of the characters sounded so familiar. Turns out it was Justin Rolland, who voices both Rick and Morty in the show. Man gets around it seems.

I've been rewatching Invader Zim, and despite the fact it has aged in a somewhat 'eh' way it still holds up as a cult classic. Plus the guy who did his voice still has a great voice and he's in Helluva Boss.

The last cartoon I watched? Does Encanto count?

If it has to be a TV show, probably Young Justice. I’m on season 3.

The most recent cartoon I guess you can consider it a cartoon i've been watching The Legend of Vox Machina, which is really good and hilarious so far, but very gory at times as well to.

So, for some reason, I read more books than I watched western cartoons as a kid. (So because I basically watched anime exclusively as a teenager.) I've tried to watch more recommended cartoons as an adult. (Because I usually don't find bad things entertaining. Thus, I avoid the ones that get universally panned.)

Anyway, here's some more recent shows that I've watched.

Modern/Cal Art Era
First Seasons of...
Owl House - 4.5/10 That was a show alright?

Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart - 7/10 Fun enough. Episodes are very hit or miss. (Still prefer cartoons with an actual story/arc in them though.)

Older shows
Gargoyles - 8.5/10 First season is genuinely entertaining. (Like most cartoons, the gun control episode is always the worst one.) The second season is a massive filler arc and grows tiring to watch very fast.

Batman Beyond - ?/10 Yeah, this one feels very much "of its time". And something I might've liked more as a teenager. But aside from its art style in places, there's very little I enjoyed about the episodes I watched. It was simply okay/average feeling.

Adult Cartoons
Smiling Friends - 8/10 Very predictable humor a lot of the time. But pretty entertaining and well-animated in parts overall, actually. (Being shorter helps.)

Legends Of Vox Machina - 2/10 It's first two episodes are almost insufferable to watch. (Granted my tolerance for lowbrow "cussing/gross out" shit humor is fittingly quite low.)

Plans to watch in future maybe?
Infinity Train - I've been looking for actual story-driven cartoons. (And the only modern "best era eva" show that I've liked so far is most of Gravity Falls.) And this cartoon has the fewest "this show I praised endlessly and wasted hundreds of episodes on, now sucks a lot y god y" videos. So I'm hoping it managed to stick the landing?

Over The Garden Wall - Haven't heard a single negative thing said about it, really. (Plus it's a mini-series. So it's not that much time investment.)

Im so srry.

I implore you to give the actual "Critical Role" D&D streams the show is based off of a shot. If you have a billion hours to spare, that is.

Copies of original works, are usually missing several parts that make it good in the first place. So I concur.

What are your thoughts on Inside Job?

Trailer did not appeal to me. (Will never support Netflix, after Cuties.) But I know some people say that's one of the good ones.

But you gave me something good to watch. So I dunno. What are your thoughts? :P

@SleepingSilence Well admittedly I haven't watched enough of it to get a good idea. I tend to use Crave TV instead of Netflix.

No, the new season started two weeks ago. The second covid special was a different thing but it was fun.

Weird choice since they had no part in making the movie that wasn't even, like, bad or anything but power to you
