Since time long past, Earth has been a world of Marvels. From Gods, to aliens, to mutants, powered individuals have walked the Earth, shaping its history. These ages of heroes would come and go, most recently during World War II, when Captain America would lead a new generation of heroes against evil. This age of heroes would end with the disappearance of the Captain and the end of the war.
However, a new age of heroes would begin in the past several years. There would be the Spider-Man, guardian of New York City, the X-Men, champions of mutant rights, and the Fantastic Four, explorers of all of reality. These early heroes would shape public perception of powered individuals. For mutants in particular, things would be hard with groups like the Friends of Humanity and the Purifiers directly targeting them.
But things would improve with the return of Captain America and the formation of the Avengers, Earth’s mightiest heroes. With the aid of SHIELD, a global peace keeping agency, the heroes of the world would continue to battle evil as it presented itself. However, a specter of the past, the terrorist organization Hydra, would turn out to be a major threat.
It was revealed that for decades, Hydra had secretly been in control of SHIELD, manipulating world events. The Avengers would reveal this secret to the public at large, causing Hydra to take drastic action. Using all the resources of SHIELD, Hydra would begin to attack all the superheroes of Earth. This would lead to a massive crisis in which widespread devastation happened across the planet.
In the end, Hydra was defeated, but at great cost. Many people died and SHIELD was left in shambles, before quickly disbanding itself. This led to a period of uncertainty for the world as they were without a global peace keeper. However, Nick Fury, disgraced former head of SHIELD, would convince Captain America to take control of the defense of the world.
Starting Project: Unlimited, Captain America would begin transforming the Avengers from a superhero team into a global defense agency. Seen as the heroes of the Hydra crisis, the Avengers would be welcomed with open arms by the general public.
Both former members and new heroes would be recruited into the Avengers, as they began creating various teams stationed around the world. One of the first teams formed would be based in New York City, operating out of the Avengers Mansion, former HQ of the Avengers.
This will be an original Marvel roleplay, set in its own Alternate Universe. Right now the lore is loose as it will mostly be determined by the players. The only events I’m ruling out right now is M-Day, the Blip, and the Krakoan Nation. If you are playing a Canon character, you could either play their classic version or re-imagine them in some way. If you wish to play an Original character, just make sure that it would make sense for them being an Avenger.
Rules:
Abide by all rules of the Guild.
This roleplay is PG-13, so no excessive violence or sexual material.
No power gaming.
Two character maximum at the start of the game.
Post character sheets here to be approved.
Have fun!
This is the Character Sheet. Please include all listed sections, but feel free to add more sections if you want. Also fancy it up with BBCode if you want.
Name: (Please put your character’s real name) Alias: (Include their codename at the very least, and possibly any other names they are known by) Age: (Must be 18+ or equivalent if non-human) Gender: (All gender identities are welcomed here) Appearance: (Can be a written description, image, or both) Personality: (Could be as simple as a few words related to personality traits, or more expansive if you want) Powers: (List all powers that the character has at the start of the RP. Also include relevant weaknesses) Skills: (These can be anything from combat, to professional, or even mundane skills like gardening) History: (I need two to three posts at minimum, just so we can get a handle on how much or little you are varying up your version of this character. If you want you can include an expanded version) Sample Story lines: (Just 2 or 3 possible ideas for stories for your character that I can work into the game itself) Extra/Notes: (A place to put anything else about your character you think we should know)
I would prefer that you use the new character sheet. But you could probably just cut a lot from the old sheet as the only real difference is splitting powers and skills into two different sections, and replacing supporting cast with sample story lines.
Real Name: William “Billy” Kaplan Codename: Wiccan Age: 18 Gender: Male Appearance: Personality: Billy has always been a nerd. He has been a fan of all sorts of forms of entertainment. He adores superheroes. He often gets excited about stuff related to his interests. Billy is generally optimistic and happy go lucky. Even when he was being bullied, he tried his best not to let it bog him down too much.
Billy is a bit of a hard-head. More often than not, he'll run into a dangerous situation with little more than a half-baked plan and a hope that things will come out okay. He's passionate about what he believes in, and becomes disappointed whenever a hero he's idolized doesn't live up to expectations.
Powers/Abilities: Wiccan’s powers are extensive, unpredictable, powerful, possibly mutant, and most definitely magical. Typically, his abilities manifest as electrokinetic energy from his hands, which Wiccan can manipulate in numerous ways—both offensively and defensively. Wiccan can also teleport himself and his teammates over long distances, fly, create objects from thin air, levitate objects, project force, energy, ice, heat, and fire, and create force fields and other solid energy objects.
Skills: Enjoys video games, and is good at them. Is also an artist and likes to draw.
History: The Avengers Vision and Scarlet Witch once had twin children. This was an extraordinary occurrence, considering Vision is a synthetic being and Scarlet Witch is a chaos magician. Unfortunately for the couple, the children were undone. Still they were eventually reincarnated as regular people.
Billy was born the eldest of 3 sons, to parents Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan. When he was young, Billy realized he was gay, and so took a lot of abuse from classmates. After getting into a fight with some bullies, Billy has an encounter with the Scarlet Witch. She heals him, and tells him to stand up for himself.
That’s exactly what he did the next time he had a run in with that same bully. Unluckily for him, the electrokinetic aspect of Billy’s powers manifested, and the bully was nearly killed.
After that incident, Billy began to practice his magic powers, and wished to find Wanda again, to whom he felt a special connection. He believes she may have activated something in him when she healed his injuries that day. Unfortunately for him, this was around the time the Avengers disbanded after it was revealed that Hydra was in control of SHIELD.
That didn’t last too long. He was soon approached by Captain America. He had recruited him to join a New Avengers Initiative. How on Earth Captain America knew who he was, Billy did not know, but he wasn’t complaining. After he graduated from high school, he moved in to the old Avengers Mansion. There were some heroes he recognized, and some he didn’t. Including one boy who looked almost exactly like him but with white hair. He didn’t know what was up with that.
Sample Storylines: Children’s Crusade: Billy and Tommy discover they are the reincarnated souls of Wanda’s twin boys, and they look for Scarlet Witch. And Vision too I guess…
Drama involving magic
WiccanxHulkling: I want Billy/Teddy romance!
Real Name: Thomas “Tommy” Shepherd Codename: Speed Age: 18 Gender: Male Appearance:
Personality: As is typical of a Speedster, Tommy has a hard time sitting still. He thinks the world moves too slow, and is waiting for everyone else to catch up with him. He is reckless, and arrogant and likes to show off whenever he has the chance. He tends to shoot first and ask quest later.
He's incredibly cynical about relationships and friendships lasting. Nonetheless, there is nothing more than Tommy wants to be loved. He will be loyal to someone when he finally learns to trust them, and he will never hesitate to do something that he deems right.
Tommy is incredibly worried about failing and disappointing people he admires or respects. As a result, he will often push himself past his limits and sometimes needs to be stopped from harming himself.
Powers/Abilities: Tommy is a speedster. This means that he can run at speeds that a normal human would never achieve. His top speed is unknown, but he is fast enough to break the soundbarrier and run over water. His body is made in a way that allows him to endure frictions that would flail anyone else alive and bones that are made not to shatter in a collision at high speed. That doesn't mean he is invulnerable; a bullet at any speed could kill him.
Besides running fast, Tommy also functions incredibly fast. He can do things at speed nobody else can and has a brain to match them. His brain is made to function at incredible speeds that allow him to catch all the details during a run. This also means he can read a book in mere seconds and remember everything he has read.
A major setback to his powers is that all this has left Tommy with a skewed perception of time. What might be minutes for somebody is hours for him and it is both incredibly frustrating and lonely for him.
Skills: He has never stuck with a hobby for too long. He gets bored quickly. He does enjoy a good fistfight, but isn’t formally trained.
History: Tommy was born to Frank and Mary Shepherd in New Jersey. His parents divorced when he was barely four years old. Tommy lived mostly with his father after his mother rejected him, believing him not to be her son due to the fact that he barely resembled his parents with his striking white hair and green eyes. Tommy spent most of his childhood getting into trouble; he could barely sit still for longer than five minutes and was often bullied for this and his unnatural hair color. Frank got a girlfriend who was anti-mutant and felt Tommy was one and they often fought. Frank often took her side and disapproved of all Tommy's accomplishments or lack thereof.
He often got into trouble, and was in and out of juvenile hall for various things. His powers manifested when he was thirteen year old. He was in school when it happened and lost control over his powers instantly, blowing up the math class. Tommy was sent to a superjuvenile hall because of his record as troublemaker and the fact that he was a mutant.
Superjuvie was not a good time for Tommy. There was a lack of adherence to basic human rights. Tommy's parents never came for him, even though they were informed, leaving Tommy bitter and angry with parental figures. Scientists took an interest in a speedster with an ability to blow things up and Tommy was poked and prodded like an animal as they tried to turn him into a weapon. He had been there for months, before being paid a visit by Captain America.
He wasn’t judgemental, and didn’t treat him like some kind of criminal. He would be released from the facility, under the condition that he would serve on the new Avengers initiative. Between that and jail, the choice was obvious. So, he moved into the old Avengers Mansion. There were a bunch of other people there, including another boy who looked exactly like him, but with black hair. Weird…
Sample Storylines: Tommy’s storyline is connected to Billy, but I would like him to have something of his own too.
Captain America may have plucked Tommy out of Superjuvie, but he still needs to atone for his actual crimes. Perhaps that involves saving other imprisoned mutants?
Also, Tommy deserves a Love interest too, so he has to meet Prodigy. Likely the previous thing relates to this.
I’m just goi go float this storyline for now, before I fully flesh out a character sheet, and forget it.
@Crimson Flame You want a magic storyline? Since Wiccan’s powers aren’t using magic, but rather controlling/manipulating it, he isn’t bound by the same rules regular wizards and sorcerers are. I propose this puts a target on his back. An Untrained/Inexperienced boy pulling at forces he doesn’t fully understand has consequences. Former Members of WAND (MC excluded) and maybe even Dr Strange could deem that the only solution is taking drastic action. With MC stepping in and claiming it’s outside the Sorcerer Supreme’s jurisdiction and telling former fanatic WAND agents that it’s an avengers issue.
@Redcord Yes I want you to place your finished character sheets in the OOC tab. Once I approve it, the sheet can be moved to the characters tab.
@Crimson Flame I figured that for most characters, non-combat skills would have to be made up by the player, like how I made Jim an accomplished fisherman. Anyways your character sheets look fine, though I would like you to add one more potential storyline for Tommy. If you want some suggestions maybe it could be him atoning for his crimes in some way, or introducing a love interest, potentially his canon one of Prodigy of the X-Men. If you add that one more storyline, Billy and Tommy will be approved and can be moved to the character tab.
@Sanity43217 I love to see collaboration. Maybe I could fit this idea into the plot I already have.
Out of curiosity, what's your approach right now with Captain America?
I'm a bit of a Capt fan and had a great time RPing him in TGM's 1968 Thread so when I saw this I immediately though "Ooooh another chance to have fun with that" but it looks like he's likely either the main character or an NPC, sort of like how Nick Fury was in the MCU.
Am I way off?
I've got three ideas basically. Captain A. Wolverine trying to step into a leadership role and away from his isolationist broody tendencies. Or maybe, if it's an option, basically play an antagonist group.
I've been told I'm very antagonizing. Pretty sure it's a compliment.
@BangoSkank I'm going to rule out you playing as an antagonistic group, as the way I intend for the story to go it would only make sense for players to be Avengers. However, Wolverine would work, as I think that is who you played in the last iteration of this. As for Captain America, Steve Rogers is not playable as he is busy being a central NPC and running the Avengers organization. But you could play a different Captain America like Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, or even someone else who would make sense taking up the mantle. Or if you want a Cap like character there is the Young Avenger known as Patriot, or his uncle Josiah X. There's also radical Cap in the form of U.S.Agent, or there's even a Russian Cap called the Red Guardian. That's just some suggestions off the top of my head, hopefully they help in some way.
Everyone Else: I'm going to make a discord server, however I am going to be busy until Monday so it won't be created till then.
Name: Thor Odinson Alias: The God of Thunder, Prince of Asgard, the Thunderer. Age: Roughly 2000 years. Gender: Male Appearance: Standing at an even seven feet, Thor is a giant of a man. With arms as thick as tree trunks, and a musculature to match. Often Thor is clad in chainmail made in the forges of Asgard and a black tabard sewn with six roundels bereft of heraldry and appearing as little more than blank steel that go from his chest to his waist. He has a winged helmet, with a sheet of chainmail going down to his neck and covering his face. A red cape is thrown over his back, covered by a gray wolf's pelt. Thor’s face is rough hewn, covered in a thick blond beard, and framed by long blond hair. His eyes are lightning blue, and glow when he actively uses his domain.
Personality: Throughout the myths that spawned from the adventures of his youth, Thor Odinson has always been a protector of humanity. Time has done nothing to dull this. Indeed, his long life has made him rather honest, seeing it better to speak a painful truth than keep a pleasant lie. Honorable to a fault, he will seek to spare his foes if possible. Thor will often do what he thinks is necessary, even if others disagree with his actions. Yet when the Odinson gives an oath, it would take the work of mighty forces indeed to see him break it.
Powers:
Strength: Alongside the God of Thunder is a lesser known aspect of his titles: The God of Strength. When it comes to contests of simple brute force, it is hard to find one more capable than Thor. From taking the Hulk himself on in a fist fight, to throwing cars and lifting boats, it is no exaggeration to say that any who sought to restrain Thor often had to seek more esoteric means, such was his simple strength.
Durability: One cannot be strong without also being able to endure your own strength. Thor’s body is built to take the powerful forces he can put out, which in turn makes him rather durable. From bullets, tank shells, and blows from the Hulk, Thor is able to take a great deal of punishment and come back swinging. However, durability does not equal immunity from pain. While his body can take a great deal of punishment, Thor himself might be overwhelmed by the sheer pain and be rendered unconscious.
Flight: Due to a mix of his dominion over thunder, and his own hammer, Thor is able to fly. It is, predictably enough, not subtle in the least. Often being accompanied by the crack of thunder, he is wreathed in lightning as he flies.
Electrokinesis: Fitting for a God of Thunder, Thor has control over one of the simplest, yet powerful forms of energy. If not in the way some would expect. Thor can summon storm clouds with a simple pulse of will, drenching the area in blackened clouds, rain and thunder in defiance of the local weather or local terrain, a desert for example. While he is capable of guiding those strikes of thunder, he most often directs them towards himself, letting his hammer–and by extension himself–be energized by their power for a short term boost. Often leading to him directing that energy out from his hammer, usually by smashing it into the ground, pointing it at someone, or simply throwing it at his foes.
Skills:
Warrior: Thor is a warrior born. From the moment he could walk, his father has taught him how to fight. For thousands of years he has taken his hammer to many a foe of Asgard and Midgard both, which has given him a frightful mix of experience, skill, and simple natural talent. Thor fights brutally, with powerful, heavy blows, seeking to win a fight the moment it starts. This could potentially leave him open to more skillful, agile opponents…if even they could avoid the Thunderer.
Hunting: A long lifetime of fighting threats to Midgard, and indeed simple hunting for food, has given the Odinson a considerable skill in tracking. He recognizes many beasts from the Nine realms, though his focus lies more in the area many would consider fantastical. He is, after all, more used to tracking trolls and dragons than foxes and elk.
Ruling: While it has not been a skillset often exercised by the Prince of Asgard, he has been taught the basics of ruling. Though many would likely find its considerations more medieval than modern governorship. He’s admittedly somewhat rusty at it, spending his time more as a defender than a ruler, but it makes him decently good at shouting at people.
Magic: While Thor does not use magic, a long life spent in Asgard and royal tutors have given him a basic understanding on how it operates. And, more importantly, how to recognize it. He is by no means a Sorcerer Supreme in the mystic arts, but he holds a greater understanding than most would suspect in it.
History:
Born thousands of years ago to King Odin and the Earth Goddess Gaea, Thor has always been a stubborn headed fool.
In his youthful years, when he was still red of hair, he traveled Midgards northern reaches, sometimes with friends, sometimes on his lonesome, and doing battle with mighty creatures. As well, of course, going on grand benders truly worthy of song. He was an arrogant, preening youth, wielding his blade in drunken rages and injured pride with equal measure.
That all changed the day when a band of Jotun snuck onto Midgard, content to pillage and eat their fill—not just of elk and fish, but people too. Thor himself stumbled drunkenly into one of the villages they were raiding. Where, to his horror, he saw the Jotun feasting on the townsfolk. Consumed with rage, he took his blade and charged the band all by his lonesome.
The battle was fierce. He lost.
He was fished from the river by Sif and the Warriors Three, and taken to Asgard to heal. As Odin gathered warriors to hunt the beasts he denied Thor a position in their ranks. Too hot-headed, too arrogant, too foolish. Thor did not rage as all expected. Instead he quietly departed for the deep areas of Asgards palace. There, in its depths, he found Mjolnir. Dejected, yet curious, and filled with grief at his own failures, Thor made to lift the hammer. He was the first since Odin himself to grasp it.
When he went to his father then, Mjolnir clipped to his belt, there was no question that the Prince had changed. He joined the hunt, and smashed in the Jotun leader's head himself. Since that day Thor has changed. He became wiser, calmer, and considered himself the protector of humanity. He has battled many foes then, dark horrors, terrible mages—indeed, one of those battles even resulted in the bleaching of his hair to its current state—alien invaders and all the monsters the Nine Realms have to offer. The latest of which was Hydra itself, some ‘old’ organization of Midgards that managed to outlast the war which spawned it.
Thor joined the Avengers in their earliest days. He was not as staunch a member as some of them would perhaps like, for as Prince of Asgard he always acted by his own remit. But when called to battle he always answered, Mjolnir in hand. Even as some in Asgard begin to clamor for his return, to put an end to his centuries long ‘hobby’ in regards to Midgards defense.
So far, Thor has refused.
For he has made an oath. And it would take powerful forces indeed to see him break it.
Sample Story lines:
Asgardian Disinterest: Earth, or Midgard as many Asgardians call it, has long since managed itself. Confined to their own planet Midgard has thus proven the more ignorable of the Nine Realms. Now things are more chaotic than ever, with the Light and Dark elves seeming on the brink of war once more, the Frost Jotuns stirring, and forces from outside the Nine realms seeking to expand their interests, Asgard is spread thin. Many clamor for the Prince to put aside his hobby with the Midgardians, and take Mjolnir to the Nine realms once more.
Old Man in Modern Times: To put simply: Midgard is different from the times of old when Thor roamed its lands. It has evolved considerably, in technology, thought, and people. Coming from Asgard, a mighty well of eternity, stasis some might say, to fast moving Earth takes some adapting to. Indeed, some officials do not take well to the Prince of Asgard, which amounts to royalty of another world, much less a country, acting like he does on Earth. To complicate matters further some people don’t even believe he is who he claims to be: Thinking him some fool taking inspiration—or even outright stealing—from myth, depending on their charitableness. Indeed, his own views on things may lead to some isolation from even other heroes, if the bridge cannot be crossed.
Extra/Notes:
Mjolnir: Made from Uru, ore from the first moon in existence, Mjolnir is Thor’s signature weapon and, indeed, his companion. A plain looking hammer lacking any embellishments, it is nonetheless rather powerful. It does not split apart the universe, summon stars or destroy worlds. No, the hammer is powerful because of its simple, stubborn will to endure. Many have tried to undo it through all its years of existence, and it has denied them all. In a way, it is as much a shield as it is a hammer. Indeed, only those it deems worthy may lift it. Any who tries, and is found wanting, simply cannot. Thor is able to toss his hammer without a care, for with a flicker of his will he is able to bring it back to his hand just as easily. With Mjolnir often simply smashing through whatever interposes itself between the hammer and its wielder.
No CS ready, about to go have dinner with some friends, but I'd like to express interest in Wolverine.
General Concept:
Logan has always been a warrior. Always been in the mix. One war after another. Pretty much all he knows. And he's damn good at what he does, but what he does it isn't very nice. Maybe it's time for the old dog to learn a few new tricks.
Share his wisdom. Stick around with one team for a bit instead of jumping from team to team. Running from one fight to the next. Or just fucking off to New York, or New Mexico or Alberta or Cuba or Madripoor. Just one wilderness or another.
Cat-Like Reflexes: Felicia is able to maneuver easily, flipping, diving, and the like. She also lands on her feet and has great balance, which allows her to move about the city with ease.
Bad Luck Aura: Felicia has no control over this power. Rather it turns on automatically, but only to those in her field of view. This passive power alters the "luck" of those Felicia sees, leading to bad luck for her enemies.
Retractable Claws: Built into Felicia's suit, these claws extend from her hand and can aid in a fight, providing a nasty cut, and can also help Felicia climb things easily.
Skills:
Lockpicking
Martial Arts
Acrobatics
Hacking
Criminal Justice
Singing
Assessing Valuables
History: Growing up, Felicia did not know what her father did for a living. The only thing she knew was that he was gone most nights and that her family lived pretty well off compared to others. As she got older, her father gradually opened up to her and brought her into the fold of his line of work: High-Market Heists. Her father knew what to target and when and made a pretty penny off of it.
Her father trained her, starting off small with petty thievery such as picking pockets, and moved her on to tackling larger hits. Felicia found she had a knack for this. This was only compounded by the fact her father was so proud of her.
When Felicia was 12 years old, her father was shot by a friend of his after betraying him. He was left bleeding out in the streets. Taken to the hospital with extensive injuries, the doctors informed her father and herself that he did not have much time. Her father encouraged Felicia to give up the life he raised her in as it would only lead to heartache. Soon after, her father passed.
Felicia burned with rage. She continued to work and train, pulling off hits well into her adolescence and young adulthood. This was the time that Felicia donned the Black Cat ensemble. Felicia's targets got more and more dangerous and deadly. Felicia went so far as to target the man who shot her father. This led to a confrontation between the two where Felicia clawed his face. Left with the opportunity to end the man's life, she was stopped by a masked hero named Spider-Man. The hero pleaded with her to not take his life and to be better. Felicia, angered by the interruption, allowed the man to go free. She fled soon after.
Felicia continued to steal, but in the back of her mind, Spider-Man's words echoed. She hated what she had become. Her father, despite his past, would never have killed anyone.
So Felicia decided the life of crime was not for her. In this redemption arc, Felicia started her own business, a private detective firm. Having insider knowledge of the city's criminal underbelly and using her former thief skills for good, Felicia was able to get a steady flow of cases. Felicia, during this, reached out to Spider-Man as a way of connecting with him and thanking him for showing her what she could become.
Sample Story lines:
A past target seeks revenge against Felicia and wants her dead. Due to the fact she has had many targets, this does not narrow down the list of people it could be.
A new case leads to a trail of murders, throwing Felicia into the thick of it. What lies at the end of the journey is a new adversary.
Extra/Notes:
Connected background to Spider-Man and Lizard
Due to her having her own private detective agency, I am willing to work with others who may have crossed paths with her, either during her time as a criminal or after she went good and started her business.
