The Living Apparition

Power/Skills: James is a more than competent brawler with a cunning mind to back up his brawn. While lacking in the more super spots of heroics, James employs a multitude of gadgets and fear mongering to get the upper hand on evil. His pedigree also comes with the bonus of a vast amount of wealth to fund his superheroics and an above average post-secondary education.
Equipment: His suit is packed with specially crafted manganese-steel plates and thick cotton capable of stopping all but specially made firepower. James also possesses a pair of gauntlets that can bellow a thick smoke, capable of covering his movements. In order to not lose his own line of sight, James employs an advanced (for the time) infrared camera/goggles. The goggles can operate for about a minute before some components need to be switched out.
Personality: Quiet, Short-tempered, Theatric, Cunning, Resourceful
Brief Bio: The O'Toole family (consisting of James and Helen O'Toole along with their son James Jr.) called one of the seedier districts of Steel City home with the father and mother both working and making just enough for the family to get by. James Jr. did his best to make things easier on his struggling parents by trying hard in school and helping out around their house but James had a knack for getting into fights with the other local kids. Most of the time it was just something to do but James wasn't a stranger for getting into real thrash-fests. Despite his good grades, James' life was destined for a similar fate of working paycheck to paycheck like his parents until one dark night resulted in a premature pruning of the O'Toole family tree.

In the dead of night James Jr. opened the door to find a posh looking gentleman looking for his parents. James never got the full story but after the death of a distant relative with no immediate next of kin, the poor O'Toole family was rocketed from scraping by to being one of the richest families in Steel City and in possession of a majority share in Newman Defence Co. The family enjoyed a year or so, indulging in the good life but James Sr. and Helen had enough willpower to think longterm and grab this opportunity by the horns. It took some time but the family was eventually able to learn enough about the company to settle into a stable and good life.

With this newfound status, wealth and opportunities James Jr.'s parents were able to send him to the top schools for business in the hopes that he would be able to take over the new-found family business. Ever the diligent son, James accepted this path and attended a prestigious business school though his old hobbies followed him to the new life of luxury. James had more than a few run ins with the school's administration after getting into more than a few brawls at school, most of these being much less friendly than the ones of his youth. All these run-ins garnered a lot of stains on the O'Toole family's still budding reputation. James Jr. would eventually smarten up after seeing the affects his actions had on his family but his itch for combat would always be present. After graduating, James would have a big party thrown for him and, at his request, it would be a costume party. Most of those in attendance would be influential figures in Steel City or a small smattering of James' own friends, most of which he would have met during his minor in the performing arts in university.

For the party James dressed as a ghost in the classic A Christmas Carol fashion of all white. However, on his walk over to the venue (opting out of getting a rid as he hadn't been in the city for some time), James witnessed as woman getting robbed. Not oblivious to his own outlandish look, James intervened and leaned into the odd nature of his look. His stark white get up and years of brawling allowed him to take down the armed thug with not much trouble though the would be victim was similarly scared off by his ghastly visage. His costume covered in the other man's blood, James quickly made his way home and changed into a more toned down suit with masquerade mask. His late night escapade didn't get much attention in the paper but the act had left a deep impression on James. He'd found an outlet for his itch to fight and a way to keep his family's name off the lips of the gossiping elite. That morning James began his preparations for The Living Apparition's official debut...

Notes: James took a minor in acting in the hopes of finding something new to replace his urge for throwing down.

@iGeorge I like the concept but he's waaay too powerful. Especially if we're doing it with stats. Most of our enemies are regular humans. Two powers tops, or period appropriate tech/advanced tech to mimic a couple powers is what I was generally thinking for a starting cap. He could gain an additional power or ability leveling up in game, but as is he's a mechanical Superman. He could be built up [pun totally intended] to almost that level, he just couldn't start out like that. If you follow the link to the Legion of Superheroes stat based RP we did in the opening post, I think a Superman stat card was used as an example and I went into how a similar character could be leveled up.

@rocketrobie2 LA is giving me Grey Ghost vibes, or if you've ever seen the 90's Flash tv series Nightshade. I'll give it a better read tomorrow, but at first glance I dig it.

I'm still working on a character cause I've actually started around three ideas without finishing any of them.

• Bulletproof vest, capable of protecting against most handgun calibers. Hidden under his suit
• Metal helmet styled after an old welding mask. Made of solid steel.

Personality: Brave, Soft-Spoken, Thoughtful, Intense, Caring

Brief Bio: Arthur Warren's story begins with the first World War. He was just another soldier in the ranks of the Allies, deployed to the front in Germany. The Central Powers had gotten their hands on a superweapon of some kind, and used it to beat back the opposition with explosive force. Arthur was injured during an attack, and no one believed he could be saved. Medics took his dying body away and brought it to a medical facility where a scientist used the opportunity to test something on someone who would not be missed. Arthur's entire right arm and most of his left arm were completely blown away, along with a great deal of muscle and flesh across his rib cage, so doctor Winston Gareth replaced his arms with prosthetics. They were constructed with solid titanium, and contained machinery that no other living soul could understand. Whatever indescribable miracle the doctor intended to perform worked, and despite the still alarming wounds, Arthur would live.

Arthur woke up with arms made of vaguely iridescent metal, that felt as real as flesh and bone. He did not have the opportunity to thank his savior, however, as the defensive line had been broken. The building was assaulted, and everyone inside evacuated. Doctor Gareth did not survive. After he made a full recovery, Arthur returned to the fight with special orders from his commanding officer, and a new uniform made of steel. The enemy forces witnessed their tanks be torn apart by a man wearing metal armor, ripping their cannons away and using them like sledgehammers to crush the vehicles. The day had been won thanks to their newfound superweapon known as Arthur Warren. After the war ended, Arthur decided he had seen enough of the military, and went on to attend university to eventually receive a PhD in world history. By day, he is a high school professor. By night, he is a superhero that protects the city of steel with fists of unbreakable titanium.

Notes: Arthur made contact with doctor Gareth's family after the war, and visits them overseas each summer. He visits the man's grave regularly.

Appearance:
The uniform is generally darker and more tarnished. The hat has been replaced by a gray helmet paired with darkly tinted goggles that help mask his identity. There's also usually a tattered scarf blowing in the wind behind him.


Power/Skills: Very skilled rider on his motorcycle. Also quite an expert at wielding his primary weapons of choice. Beyond that, not much beyond a seemingly ghostly or phantom-like aura about him.

Personality:

Brief Bio:
Hector DiLorenzo was an officer with a promising career in the SCPD. He was a motor unit, and thus issued a standard flathead motorcycle to serve as his primary transportation for patrols and pursuits. But he was also known for carrying a couple of personal weapons as a preference, namely his Mauser C96 which he first used when fighting in the trenches of The Great War. But he also carried a bowie knife with a unique engraving on the blade, a keepsake and family heirloom that just so happens to also serve as a suitable backup weapon.

But all that changed after a few short years on the force. DiLorenzo accidentally discovered corruption within his own motorcycle division. Apparently they were sharing a cut of the profits from a local mob boss's bootleg operation. But because DiLorenzo wouldn't let himself be paid off, he was marked for assassination. His own former partners sabotaged his bike in order to arrange an accident, then shot him for good measure. By all accounts, he should have died.

Instead, he heard what sounded like the call of a woman's voice. Telling him to awaken, to rise and take his vengeance on those who had betrayed him. He awoke, alive against all odds. He'd been found and nursed back to health by a man who owned a dairy farm not far from the site of DiLorenzo's "accident". The ex-cop remained there for a brief time, enough to heal and to repair his wrecked motorcycle. After that he rode off into the night, becoming the spirit of vengeance known only as "Lawman". And while his ex-partners were his primary targets, he decided there was no harm in dishing out some retribution to other criminals along the way.

Notes: The bowie knife he carries once belonged to Nathan H. Bedford - Hector's grandfather on his mother's side. Nathan had fought against the forces of General Sherman during the Meridian Campaign of the Civil War. He, too, was shot and left for dead only to miraculously survive and live to fight another day. He was carrying the bowie knife when it happened, and the knife has remained in the family as an heirloom ever since.

Arisdages

Name: Arisdages Pilosyan

Alias: Doctor P.

Appearance:

Power/Skills: Arisdages is a being comprised of a water-like liquid, this liquid allowing for an increased speed of processing vast quantities of information. Along with this he possesses superhuman intelligence, and with the correct materials and time he can engineer objects with futuristic qualities.

Equipment: Arisdages is contained within a watertight environmental suit, that stops him leaking and being dissipated. It is humanoid in shape, with a bulbous head and unnaturally skinny body. His volume means he stands around 5'6, though some of his suit may not contain any liquid.

It is adorned with an expensive tailored suit. He often sports a long current fashion lab technicians coat over this.

What appears to be a goldfish in his 'head' is actually a device of his own invention intended to maintain optimal temperatures (to a domestic degree) and to filter out any possible pollutants.

Alongside this he also owns what he calls 'The Pinger'. A gun-like device that upon using fires an invisible 'beam' that will lightly irradiate the target, and if they are sentient, cause them to rapidly suffer extreme hallucinogenic and psychedelic affects.

Personality: Callous, Mischievous, Intelligent, Pompous, Egotistical

Brief Bio: Arisdages is an alien lifeform, sent to earth by his 'creators' for an unknown reason, though Arisdages suspects it was because of his races' extinction. His 'father' was an Armenian inventor that managed to construct a device capable of communicating with Arisdages' species. About 6 years into their dialogue, a small pod containing a sealed orb of fluid, with one rudimentary grasper landed in a field next to the inventor's residence. All transmissions ended after Arisdages' arrival. His father quickly ascertained his sentience after he learned to communicate through the grasper. He then quickly gained more and more intelligence.

3 months later he had surpassed human intelligence and began the construction of his current suit. After which, Arisdages went on his way, remaining in irregular contact with his 'father' until the inventor's death approximately 30 years ago. Arisdages would go on to aid the second Reich during The Great War, helping develop several weapons which wreaked havoc upon the Allied forces. As soon as he realised the doomed fate of the side he had picked, he defected and left for the up-and-coming isolationist state of America, where he has resided since.

Notes: Speaks English with Upper Received Pronunciation, German, and Armenian fluently. Possibly speaks other languages to a lesser degree.

If he reaches temperatures above 70 degrees Celsius he will begin to boil and turn into a gas. Upon which he will not necessarily die, but will lose and information stored in the gaseous liquid. Meaning it effectively lobotomises him. And if he is completely boiled, his consciousness will be completely erased and replaced with a new one.

Boy Blue

Name: Jacob ‘Jake’ Johnson
Alias: Boy Blue

Power/Skills: He's a solid runner and in good shape despite not being in any school athletics programs. He's extremely lucky and can get out of most situations.

Equipment:
Sonic Horn – Mysterious instrument capable of producing sonic waves; BB has discovered a tune that can nullify sound within a roughly 100 feet radius.

Personality: energetic, reckless, curious, naïve, lucky
Brief Bio:
Jake was your average kid in Eisner High School until witnessing a costumed hero in Steel City taking out a criminal with a Pied Piper theme. The guy had dropped a mystical instrument and Jake was in the right place at the right time to find it. After discovering his history teacher was likely the hero Prof. Ironside, Jake came up with an identity of his own and began getting involved in the efforts to rid the streets of crime as Boy Blue.

Growing up in the Kings Bay area, Boy Blue was constantly having run-ins with the Copper Kids Gang and eventually caught the eye of some bootleggers and gangsters.

Notes: Loosely based on a combination of Johnny Quest and DC Comics' Boy Blue character.

@PerfectThought At first glance the character seems like it'd fit, but I'm not sure how an alien with super intelligence would be in a stat based RP. I'll have to give it another read sometime today after work.
