I see. I'd have to think about this one.

I guess that's fair enough. I'll make a couple of character sheets, but don't jump up my ass if they aren't Japan enough.

In all fairness, you'd think with a name like Katawa Shoujo, you'd know it'd be set in Japan.
Nothing but my two cents.

So when you say disabilities, you mean something like Aspergers or ADHD?

Hmmm, not really, I could've sworn I mentioned it somewhere, but as I read on, it doesn't seem to be there. Weird.
Mainly Yamaku is a place for people with physical conditions, but also things like narcolepsy or trauma's from the accidents they might have been in.

I'll make sure to add it in the OOC.

Is it really that hard to make a japanese character? They're not that different from white people, honestly. Ifyou've ever seen an anime show, you coulduse that as a reference.

Japanese culture is very different from Western culture, Alarieth. I think Metronome is trying to say that his characters won't be a realistic portrayal of the normal Japanese person, nor would he be able to emulate Japanese societal habits and such well. Even though it seems most people here don't actually care.

Before an argument starts, lets all just get back to the roleplay and not go into too much detail about the specifics.

To be brutally honest, I believe that if you can't force yourself to figure out how to make your character work in a setting, you should just pass on even trying. Heck, if it were me, I would at least try KS to get a a grasp on things before even writing up my character. Even if I didn't want to try KS, if I were truly interested by the RP, I would at least go and search up on Google a crash-course on a normal Japanese adolescent's day. If you're not going to make the effort for yourself, who's to say you'll make any effort for the RP?

Name: Orren Sato
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight
Age: 17

Personality: Orren has a bit of a rough exterior. He's pushy, bossy, loud mouthed, and more often than not, rude. He doesn't like being babied, overprotected, or treated differently than his peers, and he doesn't mind calling people out on it. He's a rather determined fellow. He's strong willed and independent minded. As such, he doesn't follow trends and such very well.

Skills: He has tremendous upper body strength. He could probably beat most other guys at arm wrestling.

Other: He's got a foul mouth, something that often gets him in trouble with faculty.

Appearance:

History: Orren lived a fairly normal life up until his accident. He was a good kid, made good grades, did normal kid things. This changed the day him and his mother were involved in a horrific accident. They lived close enough to school to walk, and his mother had come to escort him home. As they were crossing the street a few blocks from their house, a van came barreling around the corner and hit them both. The driver, who had been shitfaced drunk, was mostly unharmed. Orren and his mother were both rushed to the nearest hospital.

Orren's mother suffered severe brain damage and later died. Orren's lumbar spine had been shattered, a piece of vertebrae cutting into his spinal cord. He was crippled from the waist down. Orren become completely wheelchair bound. His father did his best to comfort his son, but no words could help. He did what he could, sending Orren to the best school he could find that would cater to his son's needs.

I care!

Then again, I have such an obsession with KS that it's worrying; having completed the VN 100% in English then a second time in French when version 1.1 came out.

Not really..It depends on what you mean by "western culture".

If you go beyond the flashy exterior, Japanese people really aren't that much different. Certainly, much, much less different then Chinese, or, dunno, some people from Kongo.

So is mental illness allowed?

Like bipolar disorder and such?

Or does that fall too close to mental disability?

Because they aren't retarded or anything.

"Keep in mind that Yamaku is primarily designed for people with physical disabilities, such as deaf, blind or missinglimb as examples. What wouldn't be accepted were people with schizophrenia or split personalities."

Is what I added in the OOC, so no, I'd rather not. These disable kids are all bound to be quirky though. You can add borderline to the list of what yor character might have though since peopel with borderline can still attend regular schools as well in m experience. I'm not a fan of bipolar though, since in RP it often result in very odd characters that make very little sense in their behaviour, or so I've seen. So bottom line: the disability is primarily physical, but like I said, quirky characters with odd personality traits or suffering from trauma are definitely allowed.

Damn, I have to admit thatI forgot what her disability was. Mind refreshing my memory? But I think it'd be fine, I'll be bringing back my character too, probably.
