Hey Sep, since the Ancient never actually had beaming jammers, I just invented that for the sake of the story I was wondering if given the Ancients level of technology Lawson's device is going to work? Just for the sake of the story. Just sort of imagining them all being pinned down in the grid, the gear gets booted up and it has no effect whatsoever. So what's the verdict?

My idea behind ancient jamming was that it is basically just sensor jamming, so for a beam they can't get an actual lock.

We know these two facts:
square mile is a unit for area. The area covered by equal distances along two axes in a three-dimensional space.
Radius is a straight-line distance along one axis in a 3-dimensional space.

A square mile radius would either be nonsense, or involving the forth spatial dimension, which to most humans is nonsense, as most humans can't perceive it.

Biography: Paige was born March 4th, 1989 to a middle class family as the youngest of two children. Her parents always assumed she would be some kind of genius since she had taking things apart and putting them back together since she was nearly 5 years old. Growing up she got into plenty of trouble for tinkering with things that didn't belong to her, but her older brother Malcom always looked out for her. By the time she was ten Paige had disassembled every appliance in the house and had taken to computers as the next logical step. She found that computers were much more to her liking although she still kept on with her tinkering. When she wasn't taking things apart or scouring the internet she was playing video games or watching science fiction shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation and Doctor Who. It was these kinds of shows that garnered her interest in space travel and really anything to do with new technologies in general.

It was clear when she entered into public school that she was miles ahead of most other students and was offered a grant to further her education with a private tutor. She completed her high school diploma at 16 and earned a bachelor's degree in computer science at 19. A few months later she enrolled at MIT in order to qualify for some grants to pay the rent as she had decided to move out by then.Her most significant achievement was a silicon-based crystalline polymer that utilized organized molecules to transmit signals efficiently across it’s cellular matrix, effectively increasing a computer’s ability to process complex calculations much more quickly. It was based on an episode of Star Trek, a popular TV series. The aliens in the show were silicon-based crystalline life-forms that were sentient. The professor made a call to a colleague working at a NASA research lab and offered her a job working as a lab assistant. Paige completed her MIT courses online, earning her a Doctorate in computer engineering with a minor in applied engineering, while working at the research lab making more than enough to fund her hobbies. She also worked on several projects that indirectly contributed to operating systems aboard the BC-304. In her spare time she was was known as AstroFairy across many science fiction forums and had her own youtube channel where she would answer questions from viewers about science fiction and what it would take to make them a reality.

It was obvious that her talent was wasted as a lab assistant so after two years her employer gave Paige her own lab to work independently. It wasn't much more than a large closet with a few computers but she made it her home and practically lived there. A few months later she had finally completed her latest project that she had been working on for some time. She had come up with an improved algorithm that would greatly increase the sensor resolution of thermal sensors utilizing the same silicon crystal technology she had pioneered years earlier. Just before she published her work she received a phone call about an opportunity to work in a government funded program called "Stargate" which she had never even heard of but the pay seemed amazing and she was promised that it was an opportunity of a lifetime.

Personality: Paige is generally cheerful and inquisitive. She has a broad range of interests that she usually keeps to herself as she's not accustomed to being around people who know what the heck she is talking about. Her passion for science is obvious as most of her time is spent in some kind of study on one thing or another. She becomes engrossed in her work easily and has locked herself in a room working for days on end more times than anyone cares to count. She dislikes conflict and usually deflects tension with humor and sarcasm. Despite her lack of socialization she tends to get along quite easily with most people and rarely goes against authority unless she knows she's right.

I could be very very wrong about this but I think a square mile radius is the area of a circle that intersects a square mile at the four corners. Something like this:



Just remember I'm not a math wiz so this could easily be very wrong.

You're overthinking things. Using a unit for area as a line is a mathematical contradiction.

The radius of that circle would still be measured with a unit for distance, not a unit for area.

Just think of it like this: How many cubic meters can you fit inside a kilometer?
