I don't know how this website feels about this, but...Eragon wasn't very good. :)Also I think the general consensus here is that everybody has tricks up their sleeves. Nobody has a specific advantage over any one else because we're all sneaky bastards. So yeah, the Naeri might have a couple of unexpected combat skills, but so do the Goblins by the sounds of it, maybe even the Orcs, the Dragon! Maybe even the Knight or the Jungle Lady. Who knows.

Eragon wasn't good?

You sir, can fly off a cliff.

It was not. It's main selling point was that is was written by a 15 year old, even though all the marketing and publication was done through his parents being overly proud of their first kid's novel attempt. Though maybe i'm being overly mean saying it was bad, it just wasn't at all worthy of the hype. Behind it all, it was a very standard, archetypical (I still don't know why people would market a book as archetypical) fantasy novel that has almost all of it's influences pulled from the great fantasy novels of our time. I could go on for a very long time about my pet peeves with the whole series and why it isn't too great, but i'd rather not be that guy who tells people what they can and can't like. Sure, my gripes with it are subjective, but the way it was marketed was objectively bad and i don't like that. All in all, no, I don't enjoy it and didn't think it was good at all.. but..

Yeah..

You can like it if you want. Not my place to judge :P

I'm pretty sure he was out of high school when Eragon was published.

There are also tons of arguments I can make, but I'm not going to, cause past an example, Eragon has no important to this RP.

I know he started it when he was 15, not sure when it was published, though he never even had a high school education. If I am not mistaken, he was completely homeschooled.

Still, you're right, we're veering way off topic here. Just leave it at 'everyone has opinions'. So to get into the meat of things, where is everyone planning on starting with their characters?

I'm gonna let someone decide a town before I post after them and conveniently put Sam in a little tiff with some drunken idiot.

It may be useful to know where Shankee is starting actually. *Looks at Darkmatter intimidatingly*

Although this does sound interesting, and though I certainly would enjoy playing a part in this, I would like to ask a few things before I go on in thinking up a good character.

- Are you going to take care in ensuring that (probably) not all our characters are going to be magical, or will you be encouraging magic and am I going to have to create a character who would have to be able to measure up alongside the other PC's, too?

- Are our characters going to be generally aligned along with, against each other, or even in a more complicated situation like that? I'm impressed by the level of worldbuilding shown here, but how the plot would advance once we get started isn't at all clear.

- I'm asking this a little ahead of time, but I'd also like knowing whether or not you're going to place mechanics or not behind things such as combat. Just curious, nothing I really need to know anytime soon.

Still, I'm interested.

Not all characters are magical: for instance, goblins don't have any magic except some weak racial telepathy.

Juuuust asking. Some things end up becoming 'let's twiddle our thumbs while the mages are talking,' and while I'm okay with that, I'd most rather know in advance so I can adapt.

Since it seems to be a topic of discussion, I am going to warn everyone in advance, my character is probably going to seem pretty OP, but I promise he's not. He's essentially a gun with a single bullet... If by 'bullet' you mean a bolt of lightning...

Ah. I've never found those characters particularly fun to play as (either they use their bullet, or they can do nothing, since otherwise they're an OP character who's just a gun with one bullet and oh yeah 500 more bullets). Can I ask why you would want to do that to yourself?

Will you be sharing the 'one shot bullet' with us in your CS, or do we have more secrecy? ;)

Oh, it's just a straight up bolt of lightning, nothing secret. I can see how the faction sheet could make it seem like I was creating a super mage, but he's mostly a fighter. The only reason it'd be OP is if I had a super dope fighter who could also throw around tons of magic. I'm thinking my character is a bit worse than yours in straight up combat, and he's squishier but he also has a bunch of magic tricks up his sleeve to even the playing field. Here's a WIP to explain better.

So by one shot, you really mean 20...

See, this is why I hate this sort of character.

Edit: I'm not the GM, but when I see this sort of thing, I just have to say something.

Your race has a huge unlisted advantage: every single Keeper is magically talented.

To balance this, you add a negative, namely: "Most of them die." You don't seem to understand that everyone of every race dies. Many races are shorter-lived than 45 years, naturally. I would understand if they got their magic due to their race being few in number, but you also say that all of them get their magic from a connection with a god, which is a rare occurrence according to the information we have so far.

No, I meant one shot. Like a cannon. Except you can reload a cannon in a minute, but depending on how much fighting has gone on before the bolt, he's wiped after the first shot. Maybe he can muster the energy to fight hand to hand again in urgent circumstances, but more than likely he's gonna be useless after the first shot. Also, remember that the sword is required, and each shot disarms him.

Edit: Plus, making that sword also cost him 3 years off his life, so he's not throwing it unless he knows he can pick it back up.

I liked it. Besides, i'd imagine that you're all responsible RPers who don't take every opportunity to wave e-penis in-game and murk everybody else in the game just because you can. Also, dat antagonist. We still need all the oomph we can muster. Like, seriously.

I didn't see the "Disadvantages" as "Weaknesses" I saw it as, "Why it sucks to be part of this faction" And training for 25 years in order to protect people for another 50 with little chance of surviving just to get the chance to be a parent sucks imo.

Edit: Also, the magic rules established that all magic users need to "connect" with one of the gods. I just meant that none of them were getting their weird visions from other gods
