Essence of the World II: Tears do Fall

FACTIONS
There are more factions that will be revealed later, but for now, the following are the two major factions that players should be aware of.

The Kingdom of the Gospel

Omnity

LOCATIONS

So far I've created a total of four cities in which the Players can explore and interact with if they so desire. All these cities are located in Western Europe to give you a rough estimate of the setting. There may be small towns and villages strewn about, but they are most likely under the protection of one of the factions. Independent towns are rare due to the dangers that lurk about and the desire of the two main factions to assimilate them into their own holdings.

Maybe in the future we'll have more than four, but that’s for another time.

Kenan

RACIAL SUMMARY

Demons: With their robust monopoly on magical arts, innumerable demonic kinds, and a perpetual hunger for essence to fuel their ritualistic evolution, the demons of Hell bring a frightening amount of dread to the table. What they lack in high quality essence, they make up for it in their finesse in essence manipulation (magic, essentially). Their evolution ritual is always a gamble, though: if they have not consumed enough essence, they risk dying and returning to the Void to await another chance to respawn in Hell. That being said, demons should never be underestimated as they almost always have a way out of trouble.

Angels: In stark contrast to demons, angels have the purest, highest quality of essence. Their auras are so forceful and overwhelming, it is a sight to behold; only fools disregard an angel's presence. Fewer in number, the angels possess extraordinary biological abilities, which some might seem like magic. But angels cannot wield magic, at least not in the flexible way that humans and demon do. Regardless, with their powerfully trained angelic classes, especially Weather Angels, the winged forces of Heaven are not easily defeated, especially in large groups.

Humans: Let's be blunt here, humans can be weak and strong; dumb and wise. Yet they remain a force to be reckoned with; they always have and always will. Their essence is far richer than demons, yet not too rigid for them to use magic (unlike angels). They are the most numerous and can also have offspring, unlike their supernatural "cousins." They have the most potential to become highly effective, but it is a long journey with no promises of reward at the end. Such is our struggle, but therein lies our greatest strength: determination.

Iotans: A strange new race shrouded in mystery and have only just begun to reveal themselves to the inhabitants of the Three Worlds. Being former angels, demons, and humans, the Iotans practically religiously follow a former Demon Lord known only as Ioi. He has transcended from the normal demonic evolutionary path and is now known as the Empty Lord. In short, Iotans are peaceful and loving, but even in battle, they are still pacifists. Having created a fighting style and technology (nigh identical to magic) that focuses on subduing and capturing their enemies, they seek to avoid the death of "original life" (angels, demons, humans) at all cost. A fight with an Iotan is a battle of attrition at its finest.
TECHNOLOGICAL & MAGICAL SUMMARY

1. Technology is for the most part modern day with a hint of some futuristic gadgets and such. Certain individuals and secret organizations are on the rise to using advance technology to combat the supernatural. As such, magitek is starting to become a bit more commonplace.

2. Magic is based around essence. What is essence? Essence is the mysterious entity that is the source of everything keeping this world together. It can't be created or destroyed, just manipulated and used for a variety of things, that I guess for all intents and purposes we should call magic. Essence is everywhere, it's within all living beings and is in all inanimate objects. Yet each of the three main races (angel, human, demon) utilize magic in different ways simply due to their biology. I encourage all of you to utilize creative magic around the broad rules of each race.

Angels: Angels cannot manipulate essence around themselves. Instead what they must rely on is the potent essence that is unique for them alone, hence the description that they have a “holy” aura around them. Angels are already physically strong so the majority of magic is defensive in nature. Using a lot of healing, illusion and protective magic, not to say that offensive is impossible for an Angel. Far from it, but it is more common for Angels to have more defensive magic than anything else.

Demons: The polar opposite of angels. Their own inner essence is rather bland in comparison to that of an angel or even a human. To compensate for this weakness, they manipulate the essence around them for a variety of mostly offensive magical spells (such as generic fireballs and lightning combination). Once again, this is not strictly limited to offensive magic, this is just the norm for demons. The demon lords of Hell, for example, have far more at their disposal. Additionally, with their longer life spans, demons generally have greater knowledge and experience with magic than humans.

Humans: Humanity, for the most part, have not been able to use magic for most of their history. Their very bodies form a barrier between humanity and access to its own inward essence, with only a small handful of humans having been able to cross that barrier throughout time. However, with the fall of the final gate (Hell's Gate) a year ago, the balance of essence has gone out of whack and has been slowly shifting. This has resulted in mankind having greater access to their own essence for magical purposes, albeit it's still incredibly difficult. Humans, have a strong essence within themselves like angels, but instead, humans use it to mix with the essence of the outside world, making a diverse of magic very possible for humans. Think of it like a form of alchemy or chemistry: mixing one's own essence with some other kind of essence to basically form a magical cocktail of sorts.
RULES

1. Be like the Fonz and follow all RPG's rules. GMs reserve the right to change anything, OOC or IC, that is uncool.

2. All character sheets must follow the template provided below and be accepted by both myself and Mikael before you are allowed to post in the IC thread.

3. Roleplayers in Essence are expected to uphold a certain level of good taste. Generally it is best to not be overbearing when detailing carnage, physical torture, or when touching culturally taboo subjects. Cussing should be kept to a minimum, or at least not used unless necessary to the character. Essence has traditionally been focused on emotional pain and tragedy; however, some things are strictly off-limits no matter the level of detail, such as: rape. Regarding consensual sex, please do a fade-to-black if your characters are going down this road. No exceptions.

4. Roleplayers in Essence are expected to stay in contact with at least the GMs. If IRL events are bogging you down, let us know and we'll send our love your way and lay off you in the IC. We are masters of tucking away PCs and NPCs whenever an RPer needs a break. Additionally, we do not have a set posting frequency, but Mikael and I will keep an eye on roleplayers who don't post much IC.

5. It is the GMs' job to keep the story moving forward and remove sources of stagnation. If a roleplayer ends up tying up story elements for whatever reason, attempts to reconcile the issues will be made. If this is not possible, they can expect GMs to push things along, even if they get upset over it. Generally, it is best to learn to go with the flow when needed and not take things personally. Roleplaying is a hobby: it should be always be fun.

RESTRICTIONS

1. No characters under the age of 16 please. If you absolutely must have a 15 year old (or younger) PC or NPC, discuss it with Mikael and I.

2. Please work with what content we have currently as far as race, magic, locations, and other things. You must ask permission for introducing completely new concepts. This restriction is in place so that we can regulate new things and ensure that nothing goes against the established grain and lore.

3. Roleplaying as a Gate-Killer. The reason is that they really wouldn't be too fun for a player to control since they don't talk and mainly take orders from Gospel (aka: me) which would be incredibly dry for a player.

4. Starting as an Iotan. The process to becoming an Iotan is a very deep and emotional experience, thus it is worth writing out IC for good reads. If you have interest in becoming one, either now or later as the story progresses, talk to Mikael and he'll see what he can do for you.
CHARACTER SHEET TEMPLATE

Name: (in case of amnesia or some other cliche, put "Currently Unknown")
Alias/Nickname: (are they famous with anything?)
Age: (apparent and actual; if you are older than 100 years old, you better have a good reason for it)
Race: (Self explanatory)
Appearance: (could be either a picture or a description, or both. If you are an angel, describe your wing color and size. Size is important: a large winged angel might fly for long periods of time, but would have trouble moving in tight areas; vice versa for a small winged angel.)

Social Status: (how high up the hierarchy they are; how do others deem your character; if you are in a FACTION, mention it here)
Relations: (do they have family, friends, admirers, servants etc.?)
General Activity: (what they do with their days? Do they have a duty or job? Are they wanderers? This entry, by no means, limits your character, but it would be considered your character's MO; modus operandi; general way of doing things)

Abilities: (If you are an angel, put your Class here, and maybe additional info if your angel has a unique style. If you have more than one angelic class, ask permission. If you are a demon, this is your magic set. If you are human, this is also your magic set)

Equipment: (any unique equipment should go here; it does not matter if your character has it on their person or not; for example, having a house full of relics would go here)

Personality: (1-2 paragraphs, or you may opt to put "Will show IC")

Biography: (2 or more paragraphs. Please specify what part of it is well know and what isn't. I suggest you only tell us what is known to the vast public and reveal the rest / the truth in-story.)

Name: Solus Grim

Alias/Nickname: The Necromaster, though he does have other nicknames that people have so eloquently created for him.

Age: His age is difficult to tell based on his appearance, so he has no truly apparent age. He does not reveal his age publically, though those who know him personally and have heard his tales tend to put the pieces and timestamps together, and estimate that he is somewhere in his mid-forties.

Race: Chimera

Appearance:

Solus Grim is indeed a strange fellow when it comes to looks. He constantly claims that he is human and yet he looks more demonic than most Demons, who prefer to select a more human form so they can blend in among the humans. His body for the most part is humanoid in nature, close enough to be human, yet his face, or his facial disfigurement, is what makes him stand out from the crowd, so to speak.

People like to refer to his facial appearance as that of “The Void Guide” himself, a mystical godly figure usually transcribed in religious texts. Though only as a reference for his difficult to describe facial features in a more simple manner.

His face consists of sunken in hardened flesh that has an almost rock like texture and strength yet the flexibility of human flesh. It’s structure reveals the man’s skeletal frame of the skull around the eyes and nasal cavity. He has no actual lips, but ones that appear to have been crudely cut out with a blade, creating a zigzag-esque line from one side of the face to the other. But even that is not the most interesting part about it. Green flames burn out of his eye sockets, nasal cavity and mouth almost all the time. The flames themselves are harmless to the touch.

His upper torso also has similar mutations, from the chin and down to where his abdominals begin, and down his arms until reaching the elbows. His flesh retains the similar rock like texture in that area, which also seems to act as natural dermal armour, protecting the vital organs while the limbs were ignored during the evolutionary process. The rest of his body retains natural human skin, perhaps the original flesh prior to his physical changes.

The man has a muscular, well-toned frame built for combat and punishment. His skin has a strange colour of ash grey. His right shoulder, is etched with a large glyphic tattoo from the collar bone down to half way down the bicep, that seems to emanate magical energies, only detectable by those with a keener and savvier eye of those with expertise in the Arcane. The man also towers at a tall 6 foot 2 inches.

His attire makes him stand out even more. He is always dressed in black, wherever he goes. And it’s always in a stylish black leather trench coat covered in more buckles and belts than a gimp outfit of a BDSM club patron, to the point where it looks like a very expensive strait-jacket. Whether it’s for weapon concealment or style is unknown, perhaps it’s for both. After all, an infamous hunter like him needs to look both intimidating and badass at the same time or just outright silly and impractical in some people’s eyes. Though little do those people know that that jacket is layered in thin Kevlar.

Underneath that, he wears a light Kevlar vest that can be easily concealed, even under a tailored tuxedo, to protect his vitals even more. The trench coat can’t stop everything, so that additional layer only adds to Solus’ sense of physical security. And below that all is a simple BDU t-shirt. Finally, adding to the outfit, a pair of baggy leather combat pants and steel toed combat boots to match.

Social Status: Solus’ true affiliation to any faction is truly unknown despite his infamy. Among Angels he was seen as a dangerous anarchist and terrorist, while Demons across Hell saw his as powerful mortal who proved not only his mettle, but the true potential of humankind in a duel to the death against the now deceased Demon Lord of the North, Mephistopheles.

Humans on the other hand, have barely heard of him. Those who have only know the story of how he singlehandedly defeated Mephisto, but even that legend is convoluted and blurred in the histories.

Relations: Solus has a massive list of contacts from whom he can pull favors from, call for aid, obtain new equipment, etc. But those individuals and groups are merely acquaintances or tools. There is only one person he is currently close to, and that is his 17 year old apprentice, who goes by the name of Rowdy Ralice. Solus is one of a handful of people who know her true name.

General Activity: People believe that Solus Grim intends banish both the Angels and Demons from the Surface world, though his actual reasons, motivations and goals are unknown. Most people believe him to be a Demon Slayer, since all of the tales told of his adventures usually involved a powerful demon of one kind or another. He actually takes the mantle of a Bounty Hunter, though where his contracts come from is yet another mystery.

Abilities: Solus is both a Necromancer and a Blood Mage by trade.

His Necromantic abilities revolve around manipulating the dead, death, and the essence of the dead. Solus can also communicate with the deceased on some simple level – by taking what is left of their essence and containing it in a storage unit, and partial mixing that essence with his for a temporary amount of time – for the purpose of divination, imparting the means to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge.

Many practitioners find a way to cheat Death one way or other, whether by becoming some form of undead creature or by bypassing their own ability to die.

Solus on the other hand, uses this ability to create monsters, raising the dead and twisting, changing the corpses into horrifying monsters that are bound to his will (The twisting and changing of the body requires a dash of blood magic). The monsters range in shape and strength based on the essence that was collected, the weaker the essence, the weaker the monster, and vice versa. Zombies are the easiest to raise and do not even require blood magic.

Solus’ Blood Magic abilities revolve around his own blood and the blood other living things. Blood is important in magic because it represents life force at its most basic nature. By capturing the evaporating essence of a dying body, Solus can dramatically improve the energy of his spells by linking them to the mana of the body. This augmented energy allows the spell to be more powerful but it is also more demanding on him, since he must control the fabrics of the spell and tie it simultaneously to the mana of the dying Soul.

An important component of Blood Magic is the essence in the results it can produce. The sacrifice can't carry more power that the essence it allows it to carry. In context, the essence makes the magic happen, if the essence is weak, it will barely help in the casting of the spell, with more energy needed to be of some use. If the essence is strong, it will produce a more powerful and volatile spell than anticipated, with less energy required.

Solus usually sacrifices his own blood to enhance his offensive spells, slowly weakening himself with each spell he casts. He does not use blood magic for conjuring or for rituals, but simply as a fuel. A fuel that kindles magic his essence simply cannot cast on its own, such as standard Arcane spells, or temporarily enhancing his own weapons, or drain the life force of others to heal himself in battle.

There are 4 different levels of power of such spells. Minor, Medium, Major, and Sacrificial.

Minor, Medium, and Major are as their name states. They feed on the amount of life force based on their name, taking a certain amount of energy from the caster in order to cast a spell of destructive or defensive equal to the amount of energy consumed. Minor spells need little life force, Medium spells need a decent amount of life force, Mayor spells need a considerable amount of life force.

Sacrificial blood magic requires a death of a living creature to cast. Where an Arcane spell would need 12 mages and a powerful pylon to cast it, Blood Magic could cast that same spell with a single sacrifice.

Solus is mostly against sacrificial spells using innocents as fuel, but he does use them with the life force of his dead foes as a method of gaining a vast advantage in a fight against a large wave of enemies.

Equipment:

Please take note that Solus CANNOT bring all this gear with him. He will have to pick and choose items out of his arsenal based on their weight and how much he can carry without losing his agility and mobility.

Personality: He is a man who lives his life on the edge, and cocky with an ego the size of the Sun. But he has the skill to justify his egotistical nature and his undefeated and unchallenged streak as one of the most infamous and successful Demon Hunters in the world, both in Hell and the Surface alike. Though his ego only truly surfaces on the battlefield, where he will be throwing sarcastic and insulting remarks at any opponents with half a brain to both understand and get offended by them, with the sole purpose to piss them off just enough for them to start making fatal mistakes.

Most of the time however, he tries to maintain a stoic, fearless and professional image when conducting business. Whether it’s obtaining new contracts, getting to know new contacts, or simply purchasing equipment from his black market acquaintances.

In the end, all of this is a poker face to hide his social awkwardness. He struggles to maintain a casual conversation about things that normally aren’t related to his job. But once the conversation does get going and runs smoothly, the awkwardness and Solus’ Umm’s as he searches for words to say seems to fade.

The chimeric man is strong willed and a bit of a workaholic. When he sets his burning eyes on a goal, he will reach it, even if he loses a limb or two. And he almost seemingly lacks any idea of fear, like the emotion was just, carved out of his brain. Of course there are things that he fears, but he has seen so much horror in his life that very few things faze him. It just takes the right touch to get under his skin.

Biography: Solus only became well known 2 years prior, when he traveled beyond the Gates of Hell and into the Northern Realm with the intention of slaying the Demon Lord of Pride and War, Mephistopheles.

It’s a matter of asking any demon who hails from the North, they will tell you the tale word for word. But those who know it better, are Mephisto’s former advisors, who witnessed the battle between the two with their own eyes.

Solus ventured into Hell with a party of three other necromancers like himself, each possessed with an essence of a hellion.
Of course, the smell of human flesh in a place like Hell tends to attract a lot of unsavoury characters. The humans forced to battle the way through to Mephisto, though they have only scratched the surface of his vast armies. By the time Solus reached Mephisto, all of his party members had died. Though Solus only reached Mephisto by getting himself captured, and was granted an audience with the Demon Lord.

Knowing Mephisto's honourable warrior nature, Solus asked for the Right of Challenge, a right given to any warrior to challenge the Demon Lord (whichever one is currently ruling) in a battle to the death, a tradition within Mephisto's realm. While the other Hellions who witnessed Solus spout the Right verbally protested against it, Mephisto stood up, and scanned the human from head to toe with his eyes, then, to his minions' disbelief, requested that they returned the human's weapons, and that he accepted the challenge.

The fight between the two lasted for hours; they tirelessly and relentlessly engaged each other in combat and exchanged powerful blows while Mephisto's minions watched. After several hours of brutal battle, the two were covered in eachother's blood, and both severely wounded, it was when they both briefly stopped fighting just to catch some air when Mephisto said, "Join me, Necromaster. Join me and I could give you the Surface World, Immortality, anything you desire. You have more that proven your power to me. Join me, and we can rule the Three Worlds together!" Solus didn't even answer, but raised his sword for another blow, while Mephisto froze in shock, bewildered that Solus hasn't even bothered to consider his offer. Solus smashed his blade against the top of Mephisto's head, splitting it in two, slaying Mephisto right in front of his advisors and minions. The witnessing Hellions didn't even try to stop Solus as he didn't say a single word, and simply left the ruined Throne Room.
News of Mephisto's death spread faster than a forest fire, before Solus could even reach the Hell Gate, still clutching his wounds, the entirety of Hell, and even most of the Surface World has heard of Mephisto's demise.

It was six months later when he re-emerged again, when he slayed a whole brood of vampires, including their leader, Kabal, who died from a silver bullet to the head. The Council took notice. A human with dark powers could not be allowed to exist, and as such, sent out Battle Angels to find him, and destroy him. The Angels never returned however, and the Council's concern only grew larger.

Yet another six months passed, and he appeared yet again, this time, in the small town of Thorpe just outside of Loom, where he and small contingent of human militia, attempted to destroy an enormous flesh construct that referred to itself as Hodge, and its many children, the Podges.
He disappeared without a trace after that, though rumors of seeing him shadowed by a teenager, trailing behind him, have started to surface in this past year.

Miscellaneous notes on the pair:
-While there will be some romantic tension between the two of them, because romantic tension is a quick and dirty avenue to quirky dialogue, they're not really romantically involved. More like lifelong partners. The kind of friend who you just know if you both hit 40 and aren't married yet, you'll marry each other just to say you did it.
-I can go totally indepth about the contents of Fang's gun closet if somebody wants, but for the sake of moving the narrative along and to save myself some time and trouble, I've purposely kept it a bit vague.
-For the purpose of tracking on the website, both Domino and Fang are at home in Kenan right now.

Lisara

Name: Lisara Kasio
Age: 11 Months

Personality: Lisara is a very dutiful creature. In her realm she was tasked with her highness' protection, being a guard is all she really knows. Any order she is given, she will obey without question if it is given to her by her mistress. However, if any other were to give her an order or try to command her to do anything she would set them ablaze in an instant. That isn't to say she doesn't have a fun side. On the contrary, she loves to make mischief, though her form of mischief would likely get someone killed.

Generally, she comes off as extremely snarky and sarcastic, but she is always very aware of her surroundings and does her utmost to keep anyone in her charge as safe as possible. Note: This is just a brief summary, more evolved Personality will be shown IC.

Appearance:

Species: Hellhound
Sub-genus: Rinceoir dóiteáin (Fire Dancer)

General Information on Fire Dancers

Fire dancers are a special breed of hellhound found only in the southern most region of Hell, their characteristic traits being that their tails are half flame and they usually have some sort of flaming appendage over their bodies (in Lisara's case, small wings). All of the flames on their body are eternal and will not stop burning even in death. However, their flames do not do harm unless the beast wishes them to, and thus, cannot harm anything when they die. This species of hellhound is able to telepathically communicate with the one who raised them, and anyone that shares blood relation with that being.

Fire dancers are also well known for how fast they grow. In six months they are generally fully grown and capable of coherent thought. Their flames bud up at around 2 months, and the size of the flame--at least on the tail--grows with the hellhound's age. When they are fully grown they are about 7 feet from shoulder to paw. They generally live around a thousand (1,000) years.

Note: The flames on the legs only grow with the body, whereas the flame on the tail will lengthen with age in years.

Physiology

This breed of Hellhound has one heart between its ribs like a normal dog would, and a smaller heart located in the upper part of their back, generally where their markings would be. This area of their body is harder to pierce as it is more like bone covered in fur than it is like skin. Females have a secondary lining along the inside of their throat that, when they inhale takes in some of the oxygen. As they exhale the oxygen leaves that “pocket” causing the chemicals to ignite and allowing for fire to leave their mouth or nose. The males, while still able to breathe fire, are more likely to bite an opponent as they are poisonous. They have poison sacks located in the lower part of their throat that feeds venom into their teeth when they bite. Because of this trait, their flaming breath is generally a lot weaker than their counterpart’s.

Aeris Naera Kasio

Theme (also something she sings quiet often now) | Theme

Name: Aeris Kasio
Alias: N/A
Nicknames: Airy, Ris
Age: 20
Race: Human
Relations: Brother: Mairyell Kasio
Guardian Angel: Caeldrin/ The Aurist (She is unaware that this has changed).

Social Status: N/A
General Activity: Spending time with Szayeis, or taking care of Lisara. Maybe, on occasion talking with Daiyrisa. For the time being she is in Hell, she will, however, be returning to Surface soon.
Equipment: A small dagger, and a lighter.

Appearance:
S1:
Aeris has short (about shoulder length), dark brown hair that frames her face. Her eyes are that of an amber color, but have a tendency to change to darker brown variants. She's rather short, only reaching 5'0" in height and weighing around 110lbs. Her skin is a pale porcelain color, and she is easily sunburnt because of its fair nature. She can usually be found wearing darker and more baggy clothes. She prefers long sleeves and pants to protect her skin, and often has a hoodie on with the hood up. Her favorite outfit, however, is a baggy black hoodie with a black and red scythe on the back of it, dark blue jeans, and a pair of black and white converse. The hoodie itself is far too big for her, a lot of people think she snagged it from her brother as it reaches the middle of her thighs in length and the sleeves fall over her hands. The pants are a tighter fit, forming to her legs quite nicely, while still baggy around her calves. The black and white converse have hearts drawn on either ankle the left shoe has a heart with horns on it, and the right a heart with wings.

S2:
Her hair has grown out to the middle of her back, while still framing her face in the way that she likes it. She has taken a fondness for more feminine-style clothing (tighter fitting than her S1 attire, shows off more curves).

Personality:
S1:
Aeris is shy, quiet, and often very childish. Even though she is very shy, it's not hard to get her out of her shell. All you really have to do is talk to her and she'll hardly ever shut up. Because of this, she's often on the phone for hours, simply talking to anyone who happens to call her and causing them to have to listen to her blabber on about nothing in particular. When she gets too excited, she ends up talking extremely loud without even realizing it, and that usually gets her either weird looks, or random people asking her to shut up.

You'd think that with the way she acts, that she's all sunshine, all the time. This is not the case. Aeris has a very dark demeanor to her if she's ever left completely by herself. Her need for people stems from this, because when she's left alone she believes herself to be useless or worthless. She cannot stand herself. This is something she tries desperately to hide through a facade of smiles and laughter. She fears that one day her facade is going to break, though... What will she do then?

Even though she can't see them, she does have some very redeeming qualities to her. She is very clever, and can often figure out a solution to any type of situation that befalls her. Along with this, she is very caring and empathetic toward people's emotions. She doesn't want anyone to be as sad as she feels, and so she'll always try her hardest to bring a smile to the faces of those around her.

S2:
To be shown IC

Biography:
S1:
The Kasio Korp was a rich company that thrived on selling highly valuable potions and drugs, herbs, and their seeds to the highest bidder. Maurice Kasio, the CEO, was such a powerful tycoon that he even had his own private army and assassins. His late wife, Layna, also gave birth to two siblings: a son named Mairyell, whom he attempted to groom for taking over the company, and later a daughter named Aeris. Their mother died when Aeris was a young child, and it was public knowledge that the cause was cancer. From the start, the Kasio siblings had always been a little wayward, which was reason for their father to worry. Mr. Kasio, ever the busy man, hired lackeys to keep an eye on his children and stop them from ruining his image.

It was not generally known that Mairyell contracted a demonic disease from his mother while she was pregnant. Nobody knew where this influence came from, but when it came time to address the seriousness of the situation, Mr. Kasio's true colors were shown. His human greed for power had warped his mind and caused him to avoid pouring funds into finding a cure for his wife's illness. After all, it was far more profitable for a company to treat symptoms of a patient than to cure diseases--if word got out that there was a cure for a new disease, the media would be all over over it. He had weaved a lie for his children, but his son sensed that there was deception in this. Mairyell doesn't, however, tell Aeris the truth about Mama's demise, but he always told her bed time stories about Mama whenever she asked him.

Sanity became scarce as their father started to fear them, especially Mairyell. The boy was showing symptoms similar to his mother, but instead of weakening him, it only made the boy stronger. Sedation became his father's favorite method to control him and suppress the demonic symptoms. He still had some twisted dream of making his son inherit his legacy, but the mutations were getting faster and harsher. It was too much. Soon, sedation doesn't work so Mr. Kasio locked up his own son. Unfortunately, he was not able to hide the truth from his daughter. When she found out, the very same demonic influence inspired her to burn down the Kasio Korp HQ. She did some damage, but ultimately failed. But her father was furious for she had managed to release Mairyell from his prison. Their father then disowned them and cast them away to another continent entirely. Unfortunately, Mairyell didn't have any medicine to control himself, so he would routinely freak out on Aeris. This was a problem that would not go away.

Despite the risks, Aeris and her brother began to continuously steal from their father's company warehouses, for medicine to control and sate Mairyell's vampiric metabolism. Not only did this cut into profits, but word spread that Kasio Korp was collapsing due to civil strife. Rivals began to push in on Mr. Kasio, both legally and not. It was during this time that Maurice began to increase the security of his warehouses, as well as sending in more and more assassins to seek out his 'dear' children. During one of the duo's raids, they found themselves unable to procure the medication they needed to sedate his strange urges. Because of their failed attempt, Mairyell went into a frenzy, attacking Aeris. During the attack he bit her, getting his first taste of her blood. Unlike any of the other blood he had had up to that point, Aeris' blood almost immediately satiated him. Though he regretted the act later, and tried desperately to keep from doing again afterward, he found himself unable to care during the 'meal.' A strange thing happened while her brother fed on her: the puncture wounds, while present, had not hurt her. Not one bit, and immediately after Mairyell stopped, the wounds closed soon after.

They were interrupted. Three human assassins dropped in on Mairyell and Aeris. The two of them were immediately ensnared with an acid-etched steel net, and rendered helpless. Mairyell, despite his strength, couldn't break the nets apart. It would seem the Kasio siblings would meet their fate then, but before their father's hit-men could kill them, a large winged being ambushed them, instantly killing one assassin with a large rock dropped from above. The next two assassins found themselves beheaded (and scorched) as Rinyl the Bulwark brandished his flaming sword. Melting the nets carefully, he freed the Kasios and explained that he was Aeris's guardian angel, sent to protect her at all costs for she would soon do great deeds. He added that their father had actually sent several teams before, but they were dispatched quietly. Rin then apologized for being late as a 'demon from the west' had intercepted him at night and demonstrated 'strange foreknowledge' of his assignment. It was noticed that Rin had puncture wounds on his neck, even though the assassins hadn't attacked him.

In reaction to the angel's appearance, Mairyell would at first be skeptical, and would likely remain as such throughout the majority of the two's interactions. Nonetheless, the vampire would accept Rinyl's assistance from then on, grateful for its help in rescuing them, but unsure of how he felt regarding the angel protecting his sister. After all, he did not know the fellow, and merely being of a certain caste among the angelic hierarchy did not warrant trust from the ever cautious Mairyell.

Aeris regarded the strange angel with caution, shielding her eyes from the bright flames licking across his sword. Her throat had dried as she witnessed him kill their ambushers. When it was all over, she looked up at him--worry seizing her face--but then realized that he was there to guard her, much to her confusion. Their first handful of exchanges were awkward, as she couldn't read his emotions, nor figure out his motives. It was all so very weird and alien to her, for she was only used to her big brother being her sole protector and guardian.

It became routine that during their travels, Rinyl would advise Aeris by scouting ahead where they wished to go. He was forced to trust Mairyell to protect his sister during this time. After months, the two began to accept Rinyl as a constant presence in their life. Though Mairyell kept his distance, Aeris began to show her gratitude towards Rinyl, mostly by trying to be friends with him and learn about him. The angel indulged her, somewhat reluctantly, but soon became, well, rather enamored with her. He kept those feelings to himself, however, as he knew what happened to angels who fell. He kept his mind on his mission, for the trio could rarely relax in one place before something else happened. It would seem that a curse followed their every footsteps.

One night, as another of Mairyell's manic episodes ensured, Rinyl fought Mairyell as he seemed, for some reason, meaner and more hostile than before. It worried Rin, and his honed instincts kicked in--the warriors ignored Aeris as they battled each other in a contest of wits and strength; however, they were both weakened from the fight. Having more experience and stamina, the guardian angel managed to whisk Aeris away and they disappeared into a sanctuary in which he had longed to shelter her, and train her to fight and protect herself. He never got that chance, though. When Mairyell found her again a couple days later, Rinyl was dead and Aeris was being consoled (in vain) by the sanctuary monks. He wasn't sure what had happened, but soon began to think himself to blame. Before they left, they attempted to bury Rin's body, but were denied. A squad of four pure angels emerged and while two of them wrapped Rinyl's body and picked him up, the other two brandished grimaces and scimitars at the Kasios. The angels uttered not a word as they left them behind.

The Council, however, were not done with the Kasio siblings' fate: they sent another angel, a specially trained one known as the Aurist...

S2:
Over the twelve month timeskip, Aeris has been taken care of by both Szayeis and Daiyrisa. She had developed a rather... Strange attachment to the Western Lord, and very often spent time with him. He taught her a lot of things while she was with him, including how to control her levitation better, as well as how to use her Brisn (while not actually teaching her techniques to use it with).

Talents

Ventriloquism (Voice Throwing): Aeris is a very developed Ventriloquist. What this means is that she can throw her voice around an entire small room, making it seem like she could be anywhere within. She loves doing this to play tricks on her brother, as well as anyone else who happens to be looking for her.

Magic

Levitation: Aeris' magic is that of Levitation, meaning she can levitate either herself or an object. She can "fly," or levitate herself for about a mile and can only lift herself about 20-30ft into the air. While she is lifting herself, she cannot lift any other person or object. The maximum weight of objects she can lift is about that of a mini-fridge in a hotel room.

Brisn: A magic inherited from her late mother, This magic is capable of manifesting a water-blue energy with properties reminiscent of its elemental color. This magic has one simple ability, and that is the ability to absorb other energies. However, it is capable of effecting only living beings and elemental energies, thus it is weaker against non-elemental varieties of magic. Its effects on both living beings and elements is essentially absorption, but in two very different manners. When applied to a living being, this absorption will occur on any wounds, essentially 'absorbing' them from the body and thus healing them. When effecting elemental energies it will pull them into itself, amplify them slightly, and retain some of the properties. After which, the Brisn can be utilized to blast back the element, though both this and the healing does cost the user magical energies, as all magic should.

Heheh I feel like the proud mother of a teenager. You bring them up until a certain point and then they start growing themselves, developing their own identity and character and before you know it you have to recognize they’re no longer merely a piece of you.
Anyway, enough of the melodrama lol. Here’s two lil jewels.

With the obvious differences in how Heaven and Hell and treated in this setting, how does that impact spirits? In other words, what happens to the dead and is that different depending on whether one is an angel, human, or demon?

Just kidding. The experts are currently compiling their information and will get back to you on it, sir.

EDIT:

Wind: Mika, reading his question I think you should just plainly tell him it doesn't matter what race the person is once they're dead and that spirits are not a playable race.

Does this help you, Feb?

Not at all. Put bluntly, if my intention was to submit a (human) character predicated on spirit interaction and there are no spirits, then that would be important to know. Things like possession, a la vodou, also depend entirely on the mechanics of spirits - i.e. if there are no spirits at all, then possession would be either synonymous with controlling magic or non-existent.

Ah, I see. I'm not really sure, Feb. I'll have to ask the veterans on this. Given that spirits don't wander (because they go straight to the Void upon death), it would seem that your fuel for voodoo is scarce. I'm not sure, though.

SEASON 1 VETERANS!? What say you on this?

Weeeell, I don't think spirits would be wandering, even given how every Angel and Demon that can is fighting on the Human world. The Void and the recycle of life(except for humans) remained untouched(Except where Mary is, but that will be explained in her CS)

I do see a way he could keep his magic and not have anything really changed. The void for Angels and Demons isn't a long stay. They're there, and then they're gone, ready to be reborn. Humans, on the other hand, aren't reborn. His magic could be centralized around pulling souls from the Void. Obviously, these would be primarily humans, but if he's fast enough, he could conceivable snatch an Angel or Demon Soul.

That's my two cents at least.

Transient would work from my end, since it's less a matter of "snatching" than of being snatched. Active things like talismanic magic (e.g. gris gris) or ritual effects don't have to require spirit involvement at all and could easily be explained away in the context of any form of magic wrapped in superstitious garb. The other end is spiritual possession, which does involve being inhabited for a short time by a spirit, and it is one of the more colorful aspects I was hoping to tap. It's short-lived (no more than a few hours) and not predictable at all - the spirit could impart knowledge, temporary power, or just ride the host for sport.

Sir is the demonic lord of which part of hell exactly? Because all the regions are taken (The wildlands has Baphomet, the North has a character who will be made by Synthorian, the South has Daiyrisa, the West has Szayeis, and the East has Sammael, made by Tempest). I know you had no way of knowing since your computer is being...well, wack, but still man you should've checked. If i were you, I'd talk to Synth since his northern lord might be an NPC and you /might/ be able to take that spot. Not sure though.
