Willow decided to enter the villain’s arena, and the sheer weight of the sound was painful. He flinched at it, but took his seat anyway. The other villains sneered at him and threatened him, but Willow knew he would get a lot worse of it if he left without the information for Steelia. He looked down into the arena, his eyes looking over the villains standing there, and they were certainly two impressive figures.
Down on stage, the villain on the number one pedestal jumped up and down, waving his arms and grinning like an idiot at the crowd who screamed vicious bloody murder at his excitement. His yellow, skin tight lycra suit was a disaster to look at. His hair was a gradient from yellow to orange to red, showing clearly what his powers were. His arms flailing, he smacked the person to his right. The number two villain shot him a wicked glare.
The announcers, Frank and Veronica were loudly announcing the contestants, in eager, excited voices. “And the first place fighter for the villain category, wow, isn’t he SO hot, Veronica?” Frank laughed, looking at his companion.
“He sure is! In number one place, villain Firecracker is DYNAMITE in the arena, fans!” Veronica yelled, and the fans screamed. “Firecracker has singlehandedly caused more damage to his opponents in the arena than any other junior we’ve had here! The third degree burns over their entire bodies, charred skin, delicious aroma of charred flesh, can you just SMELL it, fans!” the fans were screaming, and the arena was loud and shaking, practically from the inside out. “Yes! He is a true fighter, a SHOO-IN for today’s victory, everyone! Firecracker has it in the BAG, ladies and gentleman!” The arena screamed even louder, the audience’s excitement was overwhelming and deafening.
“Now, now, Veronica, don’t underestimate the young lady in the number two position,” Frank announced. “Our very own psychic queen, Clairi,” The crowd began screaming and calling for her, loudly and enthusiastically. Clairi gave the crowd a small smile. She lifted one hand, giving a small wave, and the crowd began to scream. “Clairi, the lovely lady who has an eerie ability to sense her opponents attacks before they even know they’re going to make them!”
“Oh you are not EVEN converting me to Team Psychic, Frank! I am Team Fire all the way!” He and Veronica laughed. “Oh, but you know, in this junior competition, things are constantly changing. Number ones to fives, fives to ones, it’s a churning mass of young, talented powers. I’ve never seen a more talented grade than this junior class, it’s like a maelstrom of powers.”
“That it is.” Frank agreed. “And who can forget the lady in the number three spot?... Um… actually, who is that?” All eyes in the arena turned to look at the girl standing there, short black hair, long and flowing down to her ankles, wearing a black jumpsuit, with a small black rabbit doll in her hands. “Seriously. I don’t remember a single one of her matches. Do you remember them, Veronica?”
“Not at all, Frank. That makes her a total dark horse in this… excuse me, dark rabbit,” she laughed a bit. “In this competition! Let’s get her information up on the board,” she swept her hand up at the screen. The girl’s face, a grim slash, flashed up on the screen, along with her name, Janice, and her villain name, Void. “Let’s see this thing start! Is Lady Void going to challenge the beautiful Clairi?” she held out the microphone.
Void took the microphone in a delicate hand, looking up at Veronica, and then looking at Firecracker, before looking down at her mic. “Of-” the microphone sputtered out some feedback and she stopped, before trying again. “I, Void, and Mr. Bun-” the bunny waved an arm, “-challenge Clairi to a battle to take her second place. Following her, I challenge Firecracker. I don’t repeat myself, so the moment she’s eliminated, step yourself up.” she handed the microphone back to Veronica, walking out to the center of the arena.
Clairi hesitated but nodded smoothly. Veronica asked for her input, and Clairi reached for the mic. “I accept her challenge.”
“But what do you think about it? Are you enthusiastic? Are you going to take her down?” Frank pressed.
Clairi looked out onto the field. “I’m sorry… I try not to reveal spoilers.” She handed the microphone back, before heading onto the field, ready to take on the young girl clutching a teddy bear.
Willow frowned. Frank and Veronica were right. Who was this girl? He’d been studying, and he’d even compiled a loose sort of database of heroes and villains in the school, and she was missing from his data. He looked up, before looking back down. He had a villain named Eronysis in the third position, according to his data... He realized that his count had indeed been off. He didn’t have an equal number of heroes to villains. He added Void in at the number three spot, moving everyone else down. Willow had a bad feeling about this. How did I possibly miss including her completely on the ranking? He looked up. He raised his phone and snapped a photo of the girl in the arena, frowning at it. Just to be safe, he named it Void.
