Name: Mushuro Hoshigaki

Age: 14, he just looks young

Gender: Male

Personality: By day, Mushuro is a timid, quiet and childish student at Gunryo Academy who tries everything he can to just peacefully get along and not attract anyone's notice. Also by day, he's a hot-blooded and manly masked vigilante who fights against the tyranny and oppression of those with high-level chips as the heroic Pandaman! His timidity and childish face aren't actually an act to hide his nature however. Instead he has a true split personality induced by years of over-the-top ninja training that attempts to burst forth and overwhelm him whenever he sees injustice and oppression, a problem he despises while wishing for an ordinary life of peace.

Bio: Mushuro's family is secretly a clan of former ninja, all of whom worked for the Chairs of different cities as enforcers and private assassins disposing of anyone who spoke out against the status quo. Their abilities were feared and whispered of in secret in the dark places of many a city wherever the strong-willed and independent gathered to resist. While they made their mark on numerous populations and earned their keep and endless praise even from those with S-Rank Chips, at least in the case of Mushuro's branch of the family they were not content with being horrifying murderers-for-hire forever.

So one day, Mushuro along with his family disappeared, removing their masks and outfits and living free among people who had never truly seen their faces. They wandered from city to city whenever the past started to catch up with them and still trained their children in their ancient family arts just in case, even teaching them to split off that dangerous side of themselves to better complete their disguise. However, now that Mushuro's been enrolled in Gunryu Academy he can't seem to stand the way citizens are treated anymore and the very split that's supposed to hide and protect him keeps putting him in danger.

Grade: First Year

Battle Chip: none

Anything Else: Despite not having a Battle Chip or ready access to weapons, Mushuro has been trained all his life in ninjutsu specifically by people who had defeating Chip-using dissidents as their primary job. As such he is able to defeat some chip users mainly through pure martial arts skill while that side of his personality is active and defend himself from people he should have no way of standing up against. When in his normal shy and timid persona however, he has no such abilities and all the power of a scrawny too-young-looking child.

Name: Makoto Nagita

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Personality: (Aim for 1-2 paragraphs. I'm watching for cliches, so don't add them) Makoto can be a very serious individual, he is confident in his abilities, some might call him cocky. He is loyal to the chair. that does not mean he agrees with everything the chair does, it means he is committed to changing the system from within, to what extent he believes the system needs changing is not entirely clear, without direct orders he is often lenient with troublemakers but make no mistake what the chair says, goes.

Bio: (2-4 paragraphs here, please. I'm still watching for cliches): Makoto didn't know his parents, his only symbol of them is a well crafted flute left with him when he was given to the orphanage, naturally he has learned to play from a young age. He was raised in a 'state' orphanage, so naturally he has been brought up to follow and work within the system, he is trained in hand to hand combat, a subject he took an interest in and applied to study at a young age. He received his first chip after defeating a F-level chip user in unarmed combat, the F-Level performed so poorly that his chip was taken from him and so it was thought only fair to give it to Makoto.

He has few friends, at his level everyone is competition and anyone else is below his notice, perhaps in a small corner of his mind Makoto is lonely not that he'd ever acknowledge such a weakness, perhaps that is why his battlechip does what it does, when he plays their song Makoto knows them, such knowing might fade but for that moment Makoto is not quite so lonely.

Battle Chip: (If this is an early-stage character, you'll either not have one or have an F-Level Chip): C-Level: Ability: Each person has their own 'song', Makoto can see this 'song' and when he plays this 'song' on his flute those weak of mind will be bound to do his bidding as long as the music plays.

On each wrist and shin/ankle he wears metal gauntlets that he uses to block blows from edged weapons.

I'm cracking down this time. I've had plenty of RPs before where half the CSes I hesitantly accept, and they all die because those people disappear if we don't have an IC post after a few days. Regrettably, I'll have to turn down both of these CSes, for differing reasons.

Why I turned down Mushuro: The one thing this RP doesn't need right now is ninjas. I love ninjas, I admit, but I don't think they quite fit in how this RP works. I also classify this as that good ol' "was trained in martial arts from a young age" cliche, which is the one I was looking for most here. I also sense one I outright don't like, where they're usually timid but then are secret badasses once they put on a mask.

Why I turned down Makoto: The same "martial arts cliche" applies here (pretty much any hand-to-hand combat is martial arts, so...). Were that not the case, you have a C-Level Chip that seems more like it'd belong more up in A or S-Level (hypnotism is one hell of a power), both of which are levels not only above what I was willing to say yes to (F-Level at the very highest, and even this should be rare when we're just starting) but above what we'll be seeing for a fair bit of time IC. The "blade-blocking gauntlets" also put me off a little. As the final nail in the coffin, your grammar (specifically, punctuation and capitalization) just sorta amplified these things to me.

I may just have misread the 'tone' of this RP.

I got the impression that we will actually be using these battle chips? In that case knowing how to fight is kind of essential unless everyone is going to be playing the plucky rebel who beats much more skilled opponents through luck and being the good guy, imo just as cliche.

I see what you are saying and from your perspective I have not explained it enough for what I'm about to say to be evident I guess. It only works on the 'weak of mind', That pretty much guarantees no one with a battle chip, and only a small number of normal people. A few normal people arn't very op against say someone with super speed, or a sword.

Again, how am I supposed to not be ganked by the first battle chip person I deal with if a dagger to the stomach will do me in? I used the wrong word in 'block' I meant Parry, which is where you knock the blade off course, I was trying to avoid the cliche of a sword or dagger.

"Arguing your case" then dropping out isn't really arguing your case so much as an overdramatized retirement, possibly with intentions (conscious or otherwise) to make others enjoy the RP less. You won't be missed if you're that unwilling to try and do better.

But rest assured, we'll have a good RP. If not, I already have a backup plan ready.

I'm still watching for cliches): Makoto has lived in the slums most of his life, his parents both succumbed to what he liked to refer to as 'the follies of the slums' drugs and petty crime. They'd eventually left him and his sister alone and who knew where they were now? they could be dead, not that Makoto would spare them a grieving thought. It's been a few years since they were abandoned, and Makoto is focused on giving him and his sister a better life, they must advance in society. After much gruelling work Makoto has finally managed to get his hands on an F-level chip, this advances their place in society and is the first rung on the ladder to the top. Only time will tell how much further they will climb.

Makoto has few friends, he's too focused on advancement, how can you be friends when everyone around you is competition?

On each wrist and shin/ankle he wears (under his clothes) metal gauntlets that he uses to parry blows from edged weapons, such as knives. He has lived in the slums all his life and so a certain amount of 'self defence' skills have worked their way into him, no one survives long if they can't at least hold their own against a petty thief. Since getting his F-Level Makoto has been trying to 'formalize' his training with varying degrees of success, some things he just does wrong and it's going to take a lot of work to get rid of age old muscle memory.

Override: Using a Battle Deck requires energy on the user's part. Though the name may suggest the user taking full control of the Deck, it's more akin to the exact opposite. Expending too much energy at one time can and often will cause a Battle Deck's power to temporarily shut down the majority of the human brain. This is marked by a period of unresponsiveness, berserk rage, and behaviors the user may normally never show.

Takeda is a guy with opinions about everything. He loves discussions and proving his worth. He is a pretty casual guy that likes joking around with people, either pranks or in-conversations. He is a trustworthy guy that warms up to people fast, expecting them to be as trustworthy as he is, even if that isn't always the case. He has average grades but is very strategic, excelling in board-games.

He is very relaxed and doesn't get mad very fast. He is always calm in stressful situations and never panics, even if hope is pretty much lost. He always tries to keep a coolhead, lighten the mood or try to find their way out of desperate situations. He is also very argumentative, but most of the time stays rational during discussions and he doesn't let his feelings involve.

There once was a couple that was poor. They were loud-mouthed and never sat down for everyone. It was only natural that they got in fights a lot, not excluding battle chips owners, and they also got beat up a lot, by aforementioned battle chips owners. They didn't like that, so they spent twenty years creating a fighting style that uses hand to hand to fight opponents, believing weapons slow the users down, and only resorting to some knife work. Even brass knuckles are advised against. A style so overruling it could beat Battle-chip owners, depending on the users skill and how high
the battle chip was. They set up a secret dojo, teaching the lower ranked this style to defend against richer people, however it got discovered and burned to the ground.

His parents, the best of this style fled, leaving the history behind them after getting married. They gave birth to Takeda, and vowed to teach him this style, but they didn't master this yet, they weren't taught everything, they were just touching on the advanced stuff. It is rumored that a notebook with the techniques are hidden somewhere, but those are just rumors. They told Takeda about it a year ago, and he was interested, they just didn't want to teach him it for a reason they couldn't explain. So Takeda argued that they should at least get him some physical training, to be able to fight back if needed. So till this day he is getting physical training, but nothing actual martial arts related.

He is being trained the same way an army trains a soldier, running with a backpack full of stones or doing fifty push ups is a common occurrence. Giving him a physical edge to his classmates. However, he lacks experience, he hasn't been in fights a lot due to his personality. He may be strong, fast and enduring, but currently lacks the experience to adapt in a fight. Not to mention he never touched a weapon, let alone using them. It wouldn't be weird if he was beaten to someone weaker, slower and less enduring then him, all at the same time. His parents still don't trust him enough to teach him this style.
Grade: First year
Battle Chip:None

Anything Else:
He likes American Pie.

This is practically the style.

(Also, the style can't beat higher leveled without enhancement. Even the literal best ones were only able to beat D, and that with both fighters against one and a bunch of cheap tactics with it.. It was designed to beat the lower, more common ranked.)

...while I'm still not a big fan toward the idea of martial arts designed to beat Battle Chips (it'd be like trying to beat an Ultima Uniform with your bare hands; even Tsumugu used guerilla tactics and anti-Life Fiber weapons) this guy's lack of experience plus altogether personable demeanor seem to balance that out a little? Since we have three other players besides you and I right now, and since my co-GM hasn't arrived just yet, I think I'll leave this one to popular vote.

Um... hmm.

Um... honestly from what I know about the chips, it seems like a style that's purely martial arts would only be useful against low-level chips unless you're very lucky and can get close on chip-users who don't have ranged weapons, and even then if it's like life fibers it's very very hard to harm them. At least not without some sort of enhancement on some level.

Like, um, with Minako, if she was still using her bat she would have no chance against anyone but the lowest chip-users.

It can't beat higher level chips without enhancement of course, that sounds impossible. It's just for the more common lower ranked to protect the user, not actively start a rebellion, in which case they would need to beat higher leveled chips. The creators of the style were only able to beat D, both against one, and that with whole bunch of luck and cheap tactics too. Not to mention they were/are the best of the style currently. Takeda hasn't even trained something in that martial yet, so he can't do anything yet. Sorry for not explaining it better, I'll edit it in the CS
