Shiranui was next to battle. "Goldden, you're up!" As Misty was about to open Goldeen's Poké Ball, another ball opened and Psyduck came out. "Psyduck, I didn't want you!"
"Fushigi, I choose you!" Shiranui let his Ivysaur out and the battle was on. Misty sighed as she called the first move.
"Psyduck, Scratch!"
"Fushigi, Leech Seed!" Fushigi launched a seed from the bud on his back and Psyduck was ensnared. Psyduck jumped across the pontoons and gave Fushigi a nasty scratch, which was healed up.
"Water Gun!"
"Razor Leaf!" A critical Razor Leaf left Psyduck knocked out.

Misty switched the downed Psyduck for Starmie. "Starmie, Confuse Ray!"
"Fushigi, Leech Seed!" Starmie let off a bright flash that left Fushigi confused. The Ivysaur managed to stay focused enough to fire a seed and ensnare Starmie.
"Starmie, Rapid Spin!"
"Not so fast! Fushigi, return; Sapphire, I choose you!" Shiranui switched his Ivysaur for his Sableye. Starmie was spinning at a fast rate, but its attack went right through Sapphire. "Had your Starmie's move actually worked, it would have spun the Leech Seed right off; but Sapphire is partly a Ghost-type so it'll never work," stated Shiranui.
"It's good you know about some battle strategies, but try this on for size! Starmie, Water Gun!"
"Sapphire, Sucker Punch!" Sapphire phased into the pool and popped out behind Starmie before delivering a punch to its back. The hit was critical and Starmie was knocked out.

Chuck continued his training, wanting to make sure his Pokemon were ready.

Chuck returned to the Pokémon Center, healing his Pokémon up.

Shiranui returned to the Pokémon Centre to heal his Pokémon. Through training, Titania evolved to a Kirlia and Jean evolved to a Kadabra. He went back to heal and through the old trade-and-trade-back routine, Jean evolved to an Alakazam.

Chuck checked his Pokedex, as he had a Moon Stone, with which he could evolve Orchid, to see possibilities for moves, and decided to hold back for now. He felt he was ready to take on the gym, and through a very difficult battle, Chuck and Volt managed to take down Misty's Pokémon, earning him the Cascade Badge.

"Now that we're all together, the next gym's leader is an infamous war veteran," stated Shiranui.

"Sounds tough." he said. "I heard he used his Pokémon in the war too, and that they're Electric."

"Right." he said. "So let's go!"

"I can't wait to get my next badge!" Liam said with a smile.

"That makes three of us," Shiranui agreed, noticing the entrance to Saffron City was closed off, hence the detour.

After cutting through the underground path, Liam did some training with Hydro and Sherlock. Allowing both to evolve.
