That's one I've never heard of.

Depending on whether the one being talked about is from africa or india: In the case of the african variant, imagine if you would, a horse sized cross between a lion and a hyena, rumored to be able to use shapeshifting magic, sporting two absolutely massive jagged pieces of bone in place of teeth in both its upper and lower jaws, a horrifyingly strong bite, the ability to mimick human speech to lure victims out, and a nasty penchant for digging up and devouring corpses.

Badass. =D

Also might be worth looking into...all of my races are based on the novel I'm writing, so I'm always looking to add new things. I have an African character (one of the Dragons), but not really any based on mythical creatures from there. The RP is an experiment to see how my universe works in motion, and also because I like to see people's creativity at work. I won't be using anyone's submitted ideas in my writing, of course, but it does add some intrigue beyond the normal 'mythical creatures blah blah' because this is a universe where anything and everything has the potential to exist.

The penchant for mimicking speech is an interesting reoccurring ability. Werewolves and Skinwalkers have both also been said to do that, I assume because it taps into a primal fear.

Here's hoping that we can help see your novel to completion. And skinwalkers are generally the worst perpetrators of human mimicry, if only because they can either do a pitch perfect imitation, or distort the speech patterns in some truly horrifying ways

That's something that's part of my story. It's peculiar to certain individuals and one of my established characters with that ability travels the world and ends up learning a dozen or so human languages. I certainly wouldn't be opposed if someone wanted to include that aspect to their character; there's a lot more about the individual races I could write (like the Selkies having their own distinct culture, they have a sort of loose social hierarchy with lots of vaguely defined 'princes' like you might find in a herd of seals) but I figure I ought to keep things simple since it's a free RP. I'm not going to enforce the rules of my universe much beyond what I've already defined, since I want this to be fun and all.

No, I already mentioned I'm not using anything anybody submits here, so don't worry about that. It's just the pre-posted things that are part of my universe. If I ever stole anything from anyone I wouldn't blame you for coming at me with an ax.

Nooooo, you're fine! I'm just very protective of that idea in particular, haha. Makes me a little nervous putting it out there, is all. Any of my other ideas I wouldn't really care about--but paladins/shades have a special place in my heart.

One question: are halfbreed skinwalkers sterile? Because if they aren't I would like to play a female 3/4 skinwalker (basically a skinwalker that can heal, but does so extremely slowly)

Nope, not at all! In fact the main characters of my story are a family of muddle-blooded skinwalkers, so something like that would fit in perfectly. XD My character Roger and his siblings are 3/4ths, too.

Okay great :D
Also, I would love to add this race to the list, but I'm not completely sure what category they would belong to. I would guess Urban Legends?

Race name: Sirens
History: Centuries ago, these half bird, half humanoid, creatures roamed the seas, luring men of the seas to their untimely deaths. They lived far from civilization, only showing their beautiful faces to those they are about to kill. Now however, they seem to have disappeared, the last reported member of their species having died 220 years ago.
Description: These creatures were said to be incredibly vain, with their places in the hiearchy being solely determined by their physical beauty, and the beauty of their singing voice. Under the light of the full moon their appearance changed drastically, showing rotting skin and crawling maggots. Strangely enough, those Sirens that looked the most beautiful normally were affected the worst by this apparent curse. Sirens were a completely female race, hating men to an almost unbelievable extend. A siren that fell in love with a man would be forever expelled from the sea, and might even be killed by their tribe.
Children: It is very rare for a child to be born in a Siren community, but it does happen. While Sirens are perfectly capable of giving birht to a child of a man, their prefered method of conceiving is laying an egg out of which a child will come. This child has no father, and is a 100% genetic copy of her mother.
Why they fit in this category: Not sure which category yet
Do they (as a whole) wish to reveal themselves: No. Sirens detested humans, and preferred to live as far from them as they could.

Accepted, and yes that's urban legends. We discussed the possibility of sirens a while ago, actually. XD Anything extra for the character sheet? (I really just need to put it down on the first page to add a character sheet template when submitting, that's my bad.)

Also, with four pages of fluff between characters sheets, would you like me to make a thread on the character sheet forum for us to all repost our character sheets, Lesley?

Eh?? I swear I did read through 90% of the posts before submitting...
Oh but I forgot one part:

Sirens were not just beautiful airheaded bimbos. In fact, they were very wise, and could look into the future or the past.
(if you think that is OP, remember that sirens are extinct, and the only one (so far) with some siren blood (my character) only inherits good looks, vanity, a working brain and a good singing voice.
