I wouldn't be surprised of Jack Goran has some contacts in the Dark Guild world.

Though they're also a fairly old guild, so that may factor into it too.

Makes a more believeable setting if people know things, even if no explanation is ever given. Otherwise Dragon Fang and Frenzy Plant would be in trouble, what with only being created out of necessity.
