"You will be my masterpiece!"
Full NameIgnis Barthandelous, the Wayward Magus
AgeGenderSpeciesPersonalityIgnis is an inquisitive soul with a thirst for knowledge of all things Magical. He's an easily intrigued fellow who has a bit of a problem sticking to one train of thought. His students often claim to see his head in the clouds, lost in his latest obsession. Ignis finds it near impossible to sit still, not a trait one would associate with such a renowned scholar. The Magus prefers to learn through action, as theory can only take you so far. He believes greatly in the power of knowledge, never hesitant to share it with any who seek his wisdom. In fact, he often laments on how so little people these days wish to sit and discuss his hypothesis' with him.
While he may seem like a cheery fellow, his reputation in the magical world is less than kind. And for good reason. Ignis' curious nature is his biggest detriment, so much so that once his fleeting attention has finally locked onto something; he simply must follow through. He has a tendency to work above the law and morality when it comes to his experiments, never fearful of committing heinous acts in the pursuit of knowledge. To Ignis, the ends justify the means and there is no such thing as forbidden knowledge.

Mage RankMagicCantrips: Mundane magical tricks, requiring the most entry level knowledge of the arcane. While not hard to grasp fundamentally, their power is often underwhelming and singular in purpose. The effective application of cantrips is dependent on the ingenuity of the wizard implementing them.
Cantrips Ignis uses include:
• Lesser Telekinesis – Ignis can move small, inanimate objects with his mind.
• Lesser Pyrokinesis – Ignis can create magical sparks that ignite flammable objects.
• Cast Light – Ignis can create a small, magical light source.
• Magic Script – Ignis can write words and draw pictures in the air with his magic. Unlike a Script Mage, these words hold no power.
• Requip – Also referred to as Lesser Conjuration, Ignis is able to summon forth small objects and tools stored in an alternate space. Opposed to a Requip Mage, Lesser Conjuration has a sparse limit to what can be stored. Ignis mostly keeps vials, parchment, ink and his favourite quill.
Greater Telekinesis: Similar in function to Lesser Telekinesis, but with enhanced effects. Greater Telekinesis allows for much heavier objects to be manipulated. The more mass an object possesses, the more concentration and power is required to move it. A benefit of Greater Telekinesis is that it does not require any form of Magic Circle in order to be used. An orthodox magic with many uses, and a personal favourite of the Magus.
Spell Steal: A technique of Ignis own creation, allowing him to instantaneously draw in the magical essence of any mage in his line of sight within a 30ft radius. Doing so allows Ignis to cast a flawless replica of the last spell cast by his target. Ignis may store up to three stolen spells.
Spells of a higher caliber than Ignis is able to wield may still be cast, but at a severe Magical Power penalty. All spells may be replicated, even those that require a Holder component or belong to a Lost school of magic.
Erase: Forgets a stolen spell. No Magic Cost.
Multi-Cast: Casts two or more stolen spells simultaneously.
Dual-Cast: Combines the power of two stolen spells into a new, more powerful spell.
Tri-Cast: Combines the power of three stolen spells into a new, more powerful spell.
Fighting StyleIgnis always believed one best learns through doing, and this philosophy has brought his studies to the battlefield many a time. In combat, Ignis is able to analyze not only his opponents strategies, but the intricacies and movements of ethernano through their spells. With this knowledge, he is able to flawlessly replicate their magics and use them against their foe. His biggest advantage in a fight is his unpredictability, but this can also be a deficit. Being able to mimic spells and break them down into new ones never before seen both bewilders enemies and Ignis, who delights in the chance to apply something entirely enigmatic in nature.
Ignis operates best at a range, firing his spells as destructive artillery. He has limited options if a fighter gets in close, instead having to rely heavily on his Telekinesis to keep himself safe as well as any stolen spells. If every caught in a situation without his magic, Ignis would be unable to call upon any martial training to aid him.
HistoryThe extraordinarily gifted and highly controversial former Magus of the Grand Archives. Ignis Barthandelous, while not known greatly across the nation, is a name any who go into the study of the arcane arts come to know. His study into Ethernano and how a Wizard manipulates it earned him glory among the greater Magus community, but his unethical practices and shocking morale code put the final nail in his coffin when it came to his status in the Archives. Fiore's Grand Archives is an magical institute that houses brilliant, studious minds. Not dissimilar to a Guild, but rather than accept jobs to aid the people, these scholars invest their time into magical discovery. Above them all are the Magus. All genius' in their own right, it was the Magus who oversaw the Archives and acted as mentors to it's younger members.
Ignis Barthandelous rose to the mantle of Magus at the age of 28, one of the youngest to be initiated in his generation. Under his tutelage, students flourished and their contributions to the magical world earned them well deserved renown. Though none of them would deny that their success was not in part the fault of Ignis. His teaching practices were fresh and revolutionary. He preached study through action and the mantra of using failure as the ultimate teacher. Never having been one for grazing over mountains of dusty tomes, Ignis' approach to learning did not necessarily yield the most knowledgeable charges; but it did get the most results. Ignis was celebrated for his success as both a scholar and a teacher, until his curiosity got the better of him.
Ignis began to delve deeper into aspects of magic most would consider taboo. His insatiable hunger for knowledge lead him to committing some wicked acts that would shock the other Magus'. The exact incidents were too innumerable to list, but they heavily involved experimentation with Dark Magic and involved living, human subjects. Stripped of his title and condemned before the Magic Council, Ignis barely escaped a prison sentence due to some leverage he held with the old Council. Though he would remain free, he would never be welcome in the Archives again. Though his wicked acts were covered up to protect the reputation of other Magus, there are few scholars across Fiore who do not know of Ignis Barthandelous.
When he was released from his position, there was one of his students who abandoned the Archives and expressed a desire to join Ignis on his newest quest for discovery. Always being one for a challenge, Ignis was delighted to have the opportunity to learn whilst exploring the land. Despite everything, he never once came to regret his actions and was proud of his contributions to Wizards across Fiore, deeming his removal from the Archives as a mere differing of opinions.
