On the lonely day of March the 29th, 1999, Dr. Ronald Bishop theorised the existence of mysterious entities whilst giving a lecture at the university he worked in. Not that anybody cared since he was one of many professors at the time, but disturbingly, he presented fossils. Note that it has not gone as far being stated as dinosaur fossils. Rather, it was the things we are all familiar with, depending if we were all alive back in the 20th to 21st century: Pokemon. All carbon dated to billions of years ago. Unfortunately for him, he was ridiculed and considered mentally ill, as his 'colleague' (more of an unauthorised visitor to his archeological site) released the video game 'Pokemon Red and Blue' about three years ago. All just for fame and money...?
Bishop's disappearance was not noticed until about a week later. The only clues leading to his disappearance were gone, never to exist to being with. Fossils, tools, presence of a body, even signs of a struggle in his room... though initially the police assumed it was a kidnapping, they dismissed the idea he was alive as no ransom was ever demanded. No clues meant this was a cold case. But, that was because the police we investigating on the wrong end. And for mysterious reasons, the government attempts to keep tabs on him, wasting thousands just to investigate if a cup of coffee was in any way linked to him, before finding out that a homeless man used it as his way of collecting money. That was not to say he did not have a connection with the people in the big white house, though.
A taxi driver, your doctor, the dictator of a country... God knows what those faces hide.
But Ronald. Today, Malwayne Coast will know. Tomorrow, the world would already know. Because, a man's madness is also his ingenuity, as long as he is successful. And by God, he's getting close to finding out the truth.
If there is a God, he has been usurped by Arceus. But, at least one of them is real.
OP:
-This whole OP comes from Minecraft Forums. Me and many others such as the big guy Dinh left due to the shrinking community, so expect odd things such as... maybe the rules. Unedited bits are seldom directed at the people you call 'free roleplayers.'
-We're always accepting. Yes, always, although not after the RP finishes. If you join the RP really late, don't worry - scaling solves everything, and we also have a planned sequel. Just have a bigger-than-usual biography explaining what you did before starting the RP rather late, and increase the level to match the average of everyone else.
-If you're going to join, PLEASE DO NOT JUST LEAVE. I mean, out of the several RPs I've been in, only about three stay since everyone else leaves, usually for no apparent reason. If you do have to leave, inform us, otherwise we'll just let your character drift off into the background.
-Remember when Pokemon fusions were a fad? We don't, and I think they were in fact associated with Digimon. Regardless, since Digimon has those special evolutions and Nintendo seems rather fine copying more or less, we're including fusions. No, not through the use of gems, scientists and stuff, but through genetics. You know, birth. Each egg group is its own species, although for the sake of understanding, there will still be different Pokemon such as Greninjas, Aegislashes, Zoroarks, etc. We're talking about Pokemon having different genetics, so they may be a cross of a Scraggy and a Snivy - hybrids, essentially.
Although there isn't really a limit to this (heck, all the roleplayers can be hybrids), don't expect too many of these around in the RP for balancing purposes. Oh, and we'll be pretty disappointed if there's like 5 hybrids and just 1 regular Pokemon. Unfortunately, the fusion currently doesn't support Pokemon above generation 1, so I'd suggest using your imagination instead. One last note, don't just randomise and play as a hybrid you hate later on, otherwise that ruins the experience for everyone in general. You also have to make sure that the combinations make sense, otherwise they'll just die on their own since they can't even breath.
-Since we don't need an entire section explaining species, I'll just leave the playable species here: Humans, Pokemon and hybrids. Humans are... well, humans. Pokemon are... Pokemon. Hybrids are a mix of Pokemon and other Pokemon, since of course Pokemon DNA is incompatible with human DNA. (With the exception of Deoxys, Ditto, etc.) More like subspecies within a species. Basically, if a Pokemon crosses with a different Pokemon in the same egg group/species, then the offspring will be hybrid.
Just a heads up, don't expect any Legendary or Ditto hybrids. Not only is the former in the undiscovered egg group and therefore can't really mate, but the latter cannot make a hybrid at all. It can definitely change its DNA, but it can't make a hybrid with any Pokemon, since it transforms into the mate's base species. (Even I found this confusing at first.)
-If going as a hybrid Pokemon, please use the X/Y system of labeling the species. 'X' being the main/base Pokemon from the mother, 'Y' being the other Pokemon from the father. A hybrid looks like X with Y characteristics.
Note that children will take only the base Pokemon of both of their parents, with the mother's being the base of the child's two species.
-Since this is set in the present world up to the point of Pokemon suddenly existing, don't expect Pokeballs and such... that's definitely off the books for now. However, there is new stuff around:
Regular attacks - pretty much Struggle, but usable at any time... and, there's no recoil. Instead of pumping out fireballs, you can just go ahead and sock your enemy in the face. Don't expect too much from it, though.
Fear - a status effect similar to Paralysis, but it can affect Electric Pokemon. However, it cannot affect Dark and Ghost Pokemon. Fear is usually associated with Dark and Ghost moves, although of course not all of them - we'll be using common sense to judge whether Fear can be added to the move.
Panic is another status effect - it's similar to Confusion (like it doesn't show up on your screen in a game of Pokemon), but it causes the affected entity to attack anything and try to save themselves... in way where they're not actually confused. It's considerably a lot more dangerous than Confusion since they're aware of what they're attacking and such (they're not idiots and won't attack themselves), but it's easier to treat with simple calming techniques and a morale boost. It's offset however by the fact that any move can cause this, and anything can be affected by it - just either deal enough damage in a few moves or cause a morale drop, and then you'll have a moderate chance of inducing Panic.
Bleed is also a status effect - it's similar to Burn, but it affects human commonly than Pokemon, since obviously they've got less physical strength than most Pokemon. It can stack with Burn, so caution is advised. Left untreated, Infection can do even more harm. Burn can do the same thing. For balancing purposes, Bleed will only affect the entity if the injuries they suffered were severe, with moves such as Spikes and gunfire obviously causing this. It can be treated easily by simply taking time out from battle to apply pressure to the wound. Almost any move can cause this, as long as they apply pressure and such. Steel, Ground, Rock, and Ghost Pokemon are immune to this.
Infection - status effect that usually correlates with a lack of action against Bleed or Burn, as well as exposure to a dirty environment. Infection is similar to Bleed and Burn, and it can stack with Bleed AND Burn, so you have to be extremely careful. Grass and Bug moves can cause this. Grass and Bug Pokemon are immune to this.
Don't expect too much turn-based attacks, but we will revolve around it. Misuse of moves against a lower level Pokemon CAN and WILL get you killed, so you gotta be careful - this is for balancing purposes.
Crits aren't (entirely) random - they're forced, unless done frantically. Just be careful as overuse of Crits can lead to self-harm, assuming you even manage to pull one off.
TMs, HMs and other stuff don't come in about later in the RP. TM's are the same as usual, except they're not used up. HM's are your 'fifth' move, as if you don't forget them. Now, while you may be able to lift a tree out of the way (or even climb over it), an HM will make things much, much easier by pretty much just obliterating the obstacle.
Mega Stones are rare, powerful things. The evolution's temporary, with the Mega Stone disappearing for about ten minutes upon use. Afterwards, the Mega Stone reappears in the air, floating until someone takes it back. Any Pokemon can use it, as long as the Mega Stone is for them. Oddly, a Mega Stone is quite tough, in which almost nothing can damage it.
-There are certain advantages over being a human than a Pokemon - for example, you can handle sticks, weapons, guns, etc, while most Pokemon can't really hold things with their lack of a thumb. They're more maneuverable, aren't as affected when it comes to status effects and attacks, and gain a foothold in a world where humans used to be the dominant species. For example, they can open doors and drive cars. Certain Pokemon can do these things, however, but not all of them.
-If being a hybrid, just note you can either take two lists of moves or combine them into one - the advantages of having two lists include having more moves, whereas the advantages of having a combined one include less hassle and not being pressured to choose between two moves at a certain level.
1. No breaking the big three (you should know this by now):
-Powergaming
-Metagaming
-Godmodding
2. You may play as evolved Pokemon, but the evolved Pokemon (usually) depends on the age of your character. Here's a typical range of Pokemon to age:
-1 to 12 - First evolution Pokemon
-13 to 20 - Second evolution Pokemon
-21 and above - Third evolution Pokemon
If they only have one evolution:
-1 to 19 - First evolution Pokemon
-20 and above - Second evolution Pokemon
(Yes, you can be evolved at level 12.)
If evolution requires items, don't worry: we'll let the storyline figure that out. In special cases, this can be ignored. Just go ahead and state you want to be an evolved/unevolved Pokemon while being 18 or something. Just for extra things to do in the RP, it's recommended not to RP an evolved Pokemon immediately. To protect against people being like level 70, the age cap is 80 (maximum level 40). Not only would you probably die if you were older, but it does a good job at stopping OP characters. That, and don't expect too power much in terms of level - misuse of moves against a level 10 Pokemon while level 20 will probably get you killed. You also cannot start out with a legendary Pokemon.
3. This is a redux of Hidden Truths. In this RP, we're concentrating on more darker themes such as racism and dealing with the shock of 'transformation.' As a result, R13 and above is allowed, which means occasional swearing, intercourse and detailed violence will be available in this RP; however, don't make it so disturbing and graphic to the point where someone drops in, just to report the roleplay for being family unfriendly. This goes especially for intercourse - we do not need to know what went where and where went what. Yes, inter-species romance is allowed, although you may have to cut down even more details. Just kidding, F*CK THE LEGAL WAIVER THIS RULE! You're in TORGUE LAND ROLEPLAYER GUILD now, sucker!
4. Be at least slightly realistic and use common sense. Yes, Pokemon can defy some laws of physics, because Pokedex entries are partially true. No, human cannot defy laws of physics, because they're humans and not super-teens. No, either species cannot claim out of thin are they own a software company and suddenly become millionaires. No, you cannot suddenly go from helpful teammate to vengeful maniac over a mutated berry, because your character is mentally ill all of a sudden. (The last two: stuff like that has to be confirmed and accepted through the Biography or Other Info section, not brought into the story so suddenly.) In accordance to the rules, do note the Pokedex entries were written by children, so don't expect Hitmonchan being able to punch harder than a train. Do expect to have your face broken if you insult one, though.
5. Any narrating style is welcome, whether that be demolishing fourth walls, abstract narration, commentary, etc.
6. Respect. Do I need to go on further? Arguments and free speech is applicable around here, but don't go around silencing and chastising others severally for their opinions. Whilst you may claim player X was powergaming (and he probably was), you don't have a right to settle it with, say a flame war. No one else needs to get involved, and it doesn't have to go from Cold War to Hot War. Leave it up to the mods and admins to decide. If they're not around, go with majority vote. If it's clearly rigged (3 other people, which are all siding with offender through blackmail or just being general dicks), then you're gonna have to be patient and wait for the authorities to come back. You'll thank yourself for not being one of five people being banned through carpet nuking.
7. Abuse of powers is not allowed. This is directed at moderators and admins alike: any (reasonable) complaints will be looked at, and if needed we will check the incident of which the complaint was first formulated. If you are indeed found to abuse powers (such as banning without a plausible reason), you are stripped of such powers. A suspension and ban may follow, depending on how serious the offense was.
8. While this should go in rule 4, it's too much of an issue to leave out: think about what happens in a world where suddenly people become Pokemon. Yeah... the world clearly won't be the same as usual. No, you may not get out of bed as a Goodra and go out to a clean cityscape. Expect racial movements, panicking citizens and possibly riots. Not immediately, but of course sooner or later - basically, anything can happen here. If you think it probably will happen because of humanity's own reasons and decisions (whilst adding common sense and realism), then you should RP it out.
9. Please remember to clear out the double brackets in applications, as well as the wording inside them. Think of it as a more sensible version of secret words.

20th Century and Before:
??/??/???? BC - First Pokemon in existence; Arceus is formed
??/??/???? BC - Big Bang occurs.
??/??/???? BC - Pokemon thrive on Earth.
??/??/???? BC - Unknown global disaster wipes out almost all Pokemon on Earth.
??/??/???? BC - Few thousand Pokemon take up disguises as other species that begin to exist to avoid predators.
??/??/???? BC - First humans in existence - Pokemon begin merging with the growing human populations.
??/??/???? BC - Some disguises are revealed, leading to legends of dragons and 'magic.' Pokemon are persecuted at this stage, alongside Jews who they eventually associate themselves with.
30/01/1933 AD - Nazis first discover Pokemon in disguises since persecution during the Middle Ages - holocaust begins, aimed at the disguised Pokemon. Due to lack of any screening techniques, Pokemon and Jews are indiscriminately killed. Near this time, the Soviets begin their own purge directed at Pokemon.
08/05/1945 AD - Holocaust ends - Celebi, Dialga, Palkia and other legendaries change the events of history to prevent knowledge of Pokemon, and another potential holocaust - history essentially replaced up until the 70's, although this drains the legendaries of their power. Arceus sacrifices his own power in order to allow time and space to run freely again.
12/03/1990 AD - Dr. Ronald Bishop, with several colleagues, discovers fossils of Pokemon dating back to billions of years.
27/02/1996 AD - 'Visitor steals' Bishop's ideas; Pokemon Red and Blue released.
29/03/1999 AD - Dr. Bishop theorises existence of Pokemon, but is ridiculed as Pokemon is now a game.
30/03/1999 AD - Dr. Bishop disappears under mysterious circumstances.
21st Century and After:
28/11/2013 - Dr. Bishop resurfaces under the alias 'Dr. Ron Fielding.' Numerous police agencies keep a close eye on him for no apparent reason, and many governments do not even mind them wasting thousands of dollars to keep track of him.
28/07/2014 - Dr. Fielding has been attacked 53 times in the last 8 months, with assailants giving absurd reasons to justify their attempts to murder him - all 53 assailants somehow escape from jail one at a time. Dr. Fielding requests protection from the US government, which is swiftly denied.
31/08/2014 - Dr. Fielding is eventually murdered in his own home, with mysterious wounds riddled across his body and house. However, a severely damaged computer is left functioning, with an unknown program stating its purpose was complete. Obvious attempts to destroy the computer are discovered.
1/09/2014 - People being witnessed to turn into Pokemon. As a result, crime rates rise sharply as Pokemon do whatever they want - world governments are panicking and attempting to resolve the situation. The US is partially fragmented, although it is quickly regaining its territory. China and several other nations are not exactly welcoming Pokemon with open arms (with the slight exception of Japan, but it is still quite shocked at the sudden appearance of Pokemon) - they are not going as far as exterminating them... yet. Countries in the Middle East and in Africa are split into basically non-existence due to the ever-increasing violence being fueled by 'the new weapons God had sent.' The only country standing in the Middle East is Israel, due to its very high population of Pokemon. Europe is quickly trying to lead scientific research into the current happenings, although mainland Europe is currently having disagreements with the UK's view on Pokemon. The Pacific has been quiet, with reports of very few humans inhabiting Australia and such. Conversely, South America has a relatively low concentration of Pokemon, especially Argentina as surprisingly only around a few thousand Pokemon are known to be there. Despite this, they've been quite to slam the current events on Japan, gaining many followers from people to countries. Most of the world is more or less handling the situation quite carefully and similarly, although there are stories of countries holding riots and even exterminating Pokemon.
