Kazuki

[Male | 17 | Fire Nation]

Kazuki is a pride-driven youth, born in the city of Ba Sing Se. What he lacks in Firebending strength, he makes up for with his courage and stubbornness. Although taken in by the Fire Nation regent, Iroh, Kazuki remains highly independent and sovereign, preferring to do things his way(even when it really isn't the best option), as seen with him choosing to join the Fire Nation Militia in the Earth Kingdom. This type of attitude has gotten him in severe trouble, yet he still remains as a loyal servant to the Fire Nation itself as a country, not to the Phoenix King Ozai, who'm he takes a severe disliking to, due to his tyrannical decisions and oppression of the Earth Kingdom. In short, Kazuki will stop at nothing to protect the lives of the innocent, no matter what the cost. Kazuki is troubled emotionally, especially with his confusion on his destiny as a Firebender. He has always pondered his existence, even until today. He wishes to understand the element of Fire, it's true purpose, and why he was given the power of destruction. Other than this mystery, he also wishes to find out who his real parents were and why he was abandoned.

Traits

Kazuki is a Firebending prodigy, even when he does not realize it. The skills in which he taught were passed down to him by his adoptive father, Fire Lord regent Iroh. However, he suffers from a lack of control with the element of Fire, as all do who cannot keep it's destructive power in check. To compensate for this, he learned the way of the sword from his cousin, Prince Zuko. Many years of practice have led Kazuki to become adept with swordsmanship. Despite this, he still has much to learn if he wishes to become a full-fledged Firebending master. As of now, he is studying on inventing a new Firebending technique, one which will hopefully even impress the very dragons who taught Humans how to control Fire...

History

Kazuki's memories and past are clouded in mystery. Prior to his adoption, Kazuki lived in the streets of Ba Sing Se, a youth whose parents were unknown to him. For two years he lived alone, scavenging, begging, and stealing for money and food. It was not until he was at the age of eight that the Fire Nation regent, Iroh, had discovered him living in the streets during one of his visits to his brother, Ozai. He was ambushed by a group of Rebel Earth Kingdom soldiers and was close to capture, until Kazuki aided him in their defeat, with his newly discovered Firebending, sloppy though it was. After the ordeal, Kazuki explained that he was an orphaned child and how he had survived in the streets by himself. He expressed his concern for the well-being of a stranger being attacked by random vagabonds, showing that he truly had a kind heart within. Soon after, he took the latter in as his adopted son, raising him to become a fine young man.

During much of Kazuki's young life was spent training to become a warrior-prince, one who would bring honor to his family name. This, however, was unsuccessful, as Kazuki was unable to control the destructive power of the element of Fire. To compensate for his lack of control and skill, Kazuki took up the practice of swordsmanship. His sparring partner, Prince Zuko, would train with him daily until each of them had grown adept with the skill and became fierce swordsmen. After he was well-skilled, Kazuki left for Ba Sing Se, to become a part of the military. However, due to unlucky circumstances, his uncle, Phoenix King Ozai, declined him the honor of becoming a military officer, due to his illegitimacy. Instead, Kazuki joined the Militia, working his way up to a Lieutenant in the Earth Kingdom Division, earning the loyalty of most of the militia's men due to his brave actions, making just decisions, and treating the people of the Earth Kingdom fairly, who'm most Officers would abuse and belittle for being second class citizens. As of now, he still works towards becoming a Firebending master...

Kazuki is currently a Lieutenant of the Fire Nation's Military, Earth Kingdom Division.

My own 2-cents. 17 and he's lieutenant, sounds too good to be true. I'd understand if he was prince, but he's only Irohs adoptive kid. And being adopted in strict monarchies, he wouldn't usually be treated on equal standards as those of the bloodline.

Edit, you already addressed the lineage issue, but to be a lieutenant at 17 is still out there. In my own opinion though. Whatever Prince deems fine is his business

I'm already working with him on points. Before I even addressed being a lieutenant. Llieutenant is actually the lowest ranking officer. There are only two noted lieutenants, one later being made Captain. Wiki defines them as "having more power than regular soldiers, but not by much" - excluding Zhao, the one made captain and trained under Jeong Jeong. I'm actually not terribly opposed to him being a Lieutenant in the Police Force, as the Police Force is a lot less strict than the actual Fire Nation Army. I went to great lengths to explain the difference between the Phoenix Kingdom Police Force and the Fire Nation Army.

Granted, Zuko was trained with his sword under Piandao, albeit I'm not for sure where this took place as its never explicitly stated. If we just wrote it off as Piandao trained a small class of elites, such as Krane, Zuko, Kazuki and leave that open to later interpretation. Zuko himself was only so good due to his training under Piandao, whom is fucking badass. Lu Ten could also be part of this class, Azula could think it's silly for "potential bending masters to be wielding pointless weapons", etc. This could bind a few important characters together. I would admit that being a lieutenant so quickly seems odd given the only two ever shown are older, while most of the younger soldiers are just police force, privates or guards.

Ming is the peaceful person who would rather communicate with people rather than solve his issues with his fists. He was taken in by the monks of the air nation at a young age and has studied with them as he grew up so that he could one day become an airbending master and obtain his tattoos. He has even shaven his head so that he could feel closer to the wind but kept a long ponytail so that he could keep his individuality from the other airbenders who lived at the monastery. Ming is the kind of person who enjoys meeting new people and would love to become friends with every nation but knows that while the Phoenix kingdom stands that cannot happen with the oppression that happens in the world.


Traits

Ming at even a young age showed promises of being an airbending master and has only gotten better as the years have progressed. He is able of advanced airbending techniques as creating a tornado by himself as well as surrounding himself in a bubble of air allowing him to deflect projectiles for a short amount of time. His almost reached enlightenment once before but at his age as he is still unable to let go of all his worldly self completely which is why he left the monastery to travel the world.

History

Ming was abandoned at the Eastern Air Temple when he was still an infant and the monks there raised him as an orphan until he showed signs of being an airbender when he was still young. After he was found to be an airbender he was completely taken into the order and taught the ways of what it meant to be an airbender and how to find inner peace through meditation. He was also taught their history and about the split in the air nation after the Phoenix Kingdom took over and how those that remained in the fire nation had lost their way for them to truly call themselves airbenders. When he was still at a young age he had learned from all the high level airbending masters who had taught him how to feel the intentions of the air and how to find peace in the wind. At the age of eleven he had been favored to get his tattoos and even demonstrated the skills necessary to getting the tattoos but the one thing that was found out about him was that no matter how much he meditated he was unable to feel the spirits or truly find his own inner peace. He spent the next few years just mopping around as he was upset that he had not earned his tattoos and didn't feel like trying again anytime soon to find enlightenment anytime soon until Master Ling Bae instilled the fire back in him to find enlightenment when he suggested that Ming take a journey around the world and travel to all the air temples.

At the age of fifteen Ming set out on his journey to explore the world and this is where he saw what it was really like outside of the isolated monastery. The first place he traveled was straight across the world to the fire nation where the other airbenders resisted and spend a few months there which made him disgusted at how different these airbenders lived compared to how it was in the Eastern Air temple with them only living on the essentials while these people lived with more than the really needed, He also wandered around the Earth Kingdom for a while where he even met some of the Rising and had even tried to be recruited to them at multiple times in his travels which he had to decline as he did not want to get involved with fighting. It was also during this time that he noticed the hardships that many people had under the rule of the Phoenix Kingdom and how corrupt that the world actually was outside of the temple with the Kingdom at the center of it. He soon resolved that as long as the Phoenix Kingdom stood he would not be able to find his enlightenment and made a resolve to see the Kingdom become less oppressive or even return the world to everyone being its own nation but he did not agree with the way the Rising was going about it and still refused to join their organization.
