Also I would pose the question that can shapeshifters, at least dedicated shapeshifters, even be petrified. Couldn't they just shape-change back?

I would argue that when petrified, it's similar to being asleep, you wouldn't remember the time spent as stone, but would rather just experience a loss of time *due to lack of biological functions*. That lack of focus would prevent you from being able to shapeshift.

Which is a fancy way of me saying I think not letting them be effected would be OP as hell, seeing as they're already exceptionally powerful due to the ability to adapt to so many situations.

I vote no. But Viridian gets the final word on that decision.

I think the worst part about what appears to be massive lag or issues while posting is I honestly have no idea if my stuff is actually posting or not..regardless, see the previous comment for my opinion on the petrification stance.

Come again? That seems incredibly out of place, to suddenly have your character just gain that ability, especially if it seems to be a direct counter to a certain toxic villain we just gained...

As always, Viridian gets final say in these matters. But I don't think you should give your character such a strong ability that nulls another person's after your character has already been accepted.

@Shiinen: Did you mean that she will eat anything that she finds edible? It would be kind of cute if she ate a poison mushroom or something and get sick afterwards.
But as Spawnling said, it's all up to Viridian.

Sorry, not trying to gang up on ya here but I have to agree with Spawny otherwise we will all start altering our abilities whenever a new challenger approaches. XD

I've talked to Shiinen, it was a misunderstanding. She meant regular poisons that would affect humans and such. Undercooked food, spoiled meat, etc.

I honestly figured we were all sort of resistant to that stuff as it was, since we're half demon/spirits etc. She actually did not see that the villain was poison based. Still, obviously, up to Viridian, but this definitely removes my worries about it.

Also, my nickname list keeps growing...

I do believe that they can. It's the entire being that is petrified, not just the skin. That includes brain, muscles, organs, etc... Try to think of it like... time suddenly stops for you and for you only, At least that's how I envision the gorgon's petrifying stare to be.

How I justify that shapeshifters also change their brains (Namely when they change size or head shape), and their is only minimal effect on their actual brain capacity.

Your brain is a lump of stone. No one can change into stone and still function, at least not on our list.

Before everyone starts adding that to their CS, don't. It'd be silly.

EDIT: I realize that sounded like I was insulting you, I totally wasn't, I was trying to make a point, not that YOU had a lump of stone for brains.

Actually, my character can turn to stone. He can change into other Yokai (In form only) which would include Gargoyles and Golems I would presume wouldn't it.

It would actually be fairly easy to be killed when petrified, Since we would be totally defenseless. And since stone is breakable with the right tools or amount of strength, instead of just breaking off the stone, it would break part of your body, because you are stone.

....Teeeeechnically turning into a Golem would remove all sentient thought from your body aaaaaand a Gargoyle isn't actually a real creature, but rather a stone depiction of demons, chimeras, and such *not totally sure, Greek Mythology is my forte, passing knowledge of everything else*

But common useage would refer to a Golem as a mindless automaton and a gargoyle as a flying creature that can either turn to stone *thus rendering themselves inert, going back to square one* or simply hold a position to the point of being stone like.

Honestly, it depends on how strong you think your character needs to be. To me, immunity to supernatural abilities strikes me as overpowered, seeing as they are indeed supernatural. We're already tough, and having a character that's just plain immune to an ability makes it so you don't require help or assistance from others, which in turn means during such situations, there's no reason for your character to rely on another, which removes some beautiful opportunities for growth and interaction.

My character cannot fight in a physical conflict. He relies on trickery. That will only get so far. As such, my character will be relying on those of you who CAN fight, but maybe lack subtlety. The point of this was to make my character a useful asset to offset the weaknesses of others, but still require their help to survive. This is made more interesting *for me at least* by the fact that he's a renowned liar, bringing a whole truck ton of trust issues into play.

I personally think that making your character immune to something or simply tough in all corners makes them...bland and overpowered. You should never be able to breeze through a conflict, it should make you *the player* worry and stress and really think about a clever, creative way to beat it. If your character gets petrified, MAN I hope you made some friends who are gonna help you. It could even be really interesting to have to protect the petrified one, using the heavy hitters to move them around and lose ground because they're the only ones who can lift them.

Rambling Spawnling, sorry if that seemed long winded.

EDIT: BUT AS ALWAYS, VIRIDIAN GETS THE FINAL SAY!

I am currently watching a livestream so I cannot focus on a long post but it is the same thing that trying to drown mermaid wouldn't work, nor could use poisonous gas on something that doesn't breath. I do believe that balance in a very literary setting should be dynamic.

Viridian will have to make the decision. I'm just sharing my opinion on the matter. I'm good with whatever.
