Jackson shrugged. "Possibly a change of mind, maybe on impulse, it could be anything, really. People do things for the most weird reasons, and it doesn't always makes sense, or at least not to us." She answered. She mostly just didn't want to think too much about the motives of their target.

"It's not like I chose to get kicked in the chest and fall!" Elliot answered to Spencer as he got back up on his feet, obviously not in the mood for this. "And it's not like you're doing much to stop them." He mumbled, going after the two.

"Would you give me another choice if I said no?" Trixie snapped, starting to move again. The handcuffs were a problem they could take care of later.

"Possibly a change of mind, maybe on impulse, it could be anything, really. People do things for the most weird reasons, and it doesn't always makes sense, or at least not to us."

“I…suppose you’re right then.”

Giltwith felt the same uneasy aura that Jackson felt. Questioning the Catalyst’s reasons for leaving was not his job. Her methods and plans perhaps, but not why she left. Still, it hit close to home to think a fellow Knight had turned out so brashly.

“Do you hear that? Up ahead…it sounds like a fight’s breaking loose.”

"Would you give me another choice if I said no?"

“Hmm, nope! Unless you wanna spend the rest of your life in a prison?” Kiara encouraged, nudging Trixie along in front of her. Turning to face Elliot again, she narrowed her eyes as she smirked.

“Wanna try me for round two?”

Jackson nodded, hearing the same sounds as well. "If Spencer and Elliot are here, it is possible that they are trying to catch the two fugitives. That would explain the noise." She said, moving up the pace and resting her hands on the handles of her swords, just in case.

"If that's what it takes, I can endure a beating." Elliot answered, glaring at Kiara. They had to catch her anyway, so why not fight, if that was what it took?

"Don't hurt him! I know what you think, but Elliot isn't bad. Of all people, I should know." Trixie said to Kiara, looking at her.

"If Spencer and Elliot are here, it is possible that they are trying to catch the two fugitives. That would explain the noise."

“Right!”

Without another word, Giltwith took off after his partner to keep up. Holding his arms out, he unsheathed his massive sword from his back and ignited it with a dense form of light magic. They wouldn’t be escaping this time.

Back at the neighborhood clearing, Spencer watched the two run away with a coy smirk on his face. It was almost as if he wasn’t even trying to do his job, despite the knife being lazily tossed in his hands. Kiara ignored the action for now as she focused on Elliot.

"If that's what it takes, I can endure a beating."

Grinning, Kiara ran forward and was just about to deliver a crippling kick to Elliot’s neck. She was stopped only by Trixie’s voice.

"Don't hurt him! I know what you think, but Elliot isn't bad. Of all people, I should know."

With a grunt, the former assassin slowed her momentum, only kicking Elliot in the chest again to knock him down.

Jackson looked at Spencer and frowned upon seeing him, but ignored his lack of action. Instead, she made her way over to Elliot, assuming he could use some help.

Elliot had braced himself for the kick this time, and didn't lose his balance as much, instead managing to stay onto his feet and counter her attack with a small fireball, aiming at the arm with which she had been holding her sword before.

Kiara saw Spencer give a mere shrug to his comrade before leaping back from the onslaught of fireballs, barely dodging just in time. She grimaced at the possibility of what could have happened. To never wield the Volunta again…

“If he’s such a nice guy, then tell him to stop trying to burn my arms off! I’m fighting for people like him you know,” she said to Trixie.

Giltwith gave one nod to Jackson before rocketing forward, massive sword in both hands and bringing it downwards in a wide arc.

Trixie looked at the two, not sure what to do. Elliot was really a good person, she knew that, and he was only doing his job. He likely didn't know why exactly Kiara had left the Imperium in the first place.

"Elliot, please stop! It's not what you think, it really isn't!" She tried, looking desperately at her friend. If only he would listen, Kiara wouldn't hurt him anymore, neither.

Elliot looked at her, hesitating for a moment, during which moment the fireball in his hands flickered and almost died out. He really wanted to believe Trixie, he really did. She had told the Catalyst to stop attacking him, so he knew she cared for him. But if he would refuse orders directly given to him, than that would definitely come with consequences...

As Elliot hesitated, Jackson dashed forward, her swords now fully drawn and slashed at the Catalyst, hoping to hit the criminal.

"Elliot, please stop! It's not what you think, it really isn't!"

Kiara was about to yell at Trixie, tell her to stay back and not get herself killed. Before she could utter a single syllable though, she saw to her amazement that the Knight paused in his attack. Stunned that he had actually listened to his friend, it was too little too late for Kiara to notice Jackon’s speed.

“Ahh!”

Dodging just in time, she couldn’t fully escape the blow and so received a slash across her right arm. Stumbling backwards, she flipped out of the way to stand by Trixie’s side. Gritting her teeth from the pain, she turned to the AI while fresh blood dripped onto the road pavement.

“Can you do something about these handcuffs? I’m the only one out us who can fight right now.”

Trixie looked at the handcuffs, shaking her head. "I can't do anything about these things, they're magically activated and need to be deactivated in the same way." She told her. Elliot knew magic, but Trixie didn't, so she once more looked at her friend, hoping for help.

Elliot sighed, looking at his friend. This wasn't a fair fight, far from it, and he could possibly make it fair, but only by helping his friend and becoming a criminal in the progress. Sighing and hoping that he did what was right, he undid the handcuffs.

"Elliot! What the hell do you think you're doing?" Jackson yelled, noticing what the mage was doing.

"Helping out a friend!" He answered, before firing a fireball into the knight's direction, who was caught off guard and got hit in the stomach painfully.

Kiara watched Elliot hurl a fireball right at his fellow Knight’s direction and grinned. Maybe she would get some help after all. The thought was certainly one to hold onto.

“Don’t think so!”

A flash of metal roared, making its way towards Elliot’s backside. Seeing that it would make impact, Kiara dashed forward in one fluid motion. Slipping behind Elliot, she kicked his backside to propel him forward before the chained blade buried itself into her back.

“Aghh!”

Spencer gripped the end of the chain and frowned lightly. He was aiming for Elliot, but getting the Catalyst worked too for him. With a yank, he ripped the knife from Kiara’s form and watched her stumble forward. Blood seeped out of the wound now, pooling at her feet.

Giltwith watched all of this with wide eyes, looking from Spencer to Elliot. Spencer had almost attacked his own comrade.

Elliot stumbled due to the Catalyst, and only managed to turn around just in time to see a knife burying into her back. She had just saved his life. If he would just hurry, than maybe he could return the favour.

Trixie watched, frozen at her place while a light blue shield covered the three of them as Elliot spoke. Soon enough, more words followed, causing the back of Kiara to heal, although slowly and needing time. "This thing won't hold long, if all three of them will try to break it, but it should at least give me some time to heal her. Regardless of what happens, however, when they break it, run." He said to her, at which Trixie nodded.

Jackson looked at Spencer, getting straight up again. "Are you insane? You could have killed him like that!" She yelled. Of course, Elliot had done something wrong, but what Spencer did just went too far.

Kiara opened her eyes and struggled to look up at their sudden ally. Her senses lit up as her back began to feel lighter. Noting this, she gave Elliot an encouraging smirk.

“Heh, so you’re on our side now? That’s a relief…cause I think I’m gonna pass out soon.”

"Are you insane? You could have killed him like that!"

Spencer shrugged indifferently, though his own eyes gleamed as Jackson made the statement. Brandishing his knife, he took note of Giltwith’s reaction before facing Jackson.

“Indeed that may be the case Miss Jackson, but an act like that is surely treason, no? Or…are you questioning the resolve of our Imperium? Hmm?”

A dark aura began to surround the man with the innocent smile, signaling Jackson to back off and not press the matter further.

Elliot sighed, looking at Trixie. "I'll try to come with you, but if I can't, make sure the two of you find somewhere secure, where they least expect you to go." He explained.

Trixie looked back at him and nodded. She didn't want to lose her friend, so she would try everything she could to help him out.

Jackson glared at Spencer, but said nothing. This was ridiculous and reckless and the man knew that. Elliot may be stupid, but killing him because of that?

“I’m sorry Miss Jackson, really I am! But as I’ve said before, treason is a serious crime in this world you know. To question your loyalty now would be…most troublesome for any of us in the future. Am I right?”

Spencer shrugged innocently, and it looked like he no longer cared about the Catalyst at this point. She could wait; right now, there was some educating he needed to do. Taking this chance, Kiara motioned for both Elliot and Trixie to take the chance now to escape.

As they ran, Giltwith noticed this. Taking one last glance at Jackson and Spencer-both his superiors in rank-he brandished his sword before giving chase.

“Let the youth of today deal with the problem, right Miss Jackson?”

Spencer twirled his knife lazily.

“Or, are you suggesting of allying with a terrorist as well? Measures must be taken against people like her. You surely must know this much Miss Jackson?”

As he said each word, the coy smile never left his face, as if daring her to refute him and strike. Soon enough, a dark and sickening aure began to resonate around him.

As they ran, Elliot supported Kiara the best he could. Granted, he was not very strong, as he relied on magic in battle, and was getting tired from the excessive amount of magic he had used, but he couldn't worry about that. Right now, the most important thing was to get them safe.

"Thank you." Trixie said to Elliot, looking at her friend. She had no idea what had made him change his mind all of a sudden, but she was glad he did.

Jackson looked at Spencer and sighed. "No, of course not. If I had been a terrorist you would've known that by know. And treason is something that should be dealt with." She said, seemingly distracted. The pain the burn had caused was awful.

Then, it seemed that she realised where exactly the fireball had hit, right in her belly. For the first time since the trio had met, fear was visible in her eyes, and it wasn't because of Spencer, not at all.

Of course Elliot hadn't hurt her there on purpose, not knowing what was going on in her life. But that didn't mean that just that one unfortunate fireball couldn't be enough to lead to something awful.

"And I am afraid we must visit a hospital as fast as possible. There is something I need to be ensured about..." She said.

Kiara huffed as they moved along in the night, her strength slowly returning to her gradually. So much for finding some place to hide out for the night. Still, at least they had more allies, albeit strange ones. Then again, hadn’t she betrayed the Imperium as well?

“Elliot you said your name was? No offense, but why did you decide to help us? We’re pretty much wanted terrorists to the world at this point.”

“Halt!”

With a sigh, Kiara motioned to turn her head around and see Giltwith pursuing after them. His sword was no longer brandished in his hands and it seemed that he came without the intention to fight.

"No, of course not. If I had been a terrorist you would've known that by know. And treason is something that should be dealt with."

Spencer grinned in satisfaction at her answer, the dark aura around them slowly dissipating, returning the air’s pressure back to normal.

“I’m glad we understand each other Miss Jackson.”

"And I am afraid we must visit a hospital as fast as possible. There is something I need to be ensured about..."

At this, the demon peaked an eyebrow in further interest. Stepping aside, he blocked her way just casually and put his hands in his coat pockets.

“Oh? And why would that be Miss Jackson?” he asked with a knowing smile.

Elliot was about to explain himself to Kiara, that he had changed his mind because of Trixie, knowing that she wouldn't help someone with bad intentions just like that, when Gilwith called out to the trio, telling them to stop.

Trixie looked over her back, noticing the knight. He appeared to be unarmed, but Trixie still wasn't sure as to what they should do. Maybe he just wanted to talk, or it was a trick. But with three against one, the latter seemed unlikely to her.

Jackson glared at Spencer, who decided that it was a brilliant idea to block her way and show interest just know. It was none of his business.

"Because I am a pregnant woman who just got hit in the belly by a fireball and is left with a severe burn wound. I want to know if my unborn child is still alive, although I don't see why that should be any of your concern.

“And what do you want?”

Kiara sighed upon the Knight’s arrival. By now she was back to her original stamina, though the handcuffs laced around her wrists would still be an issue. Regardless, it was three against one, and while although Trixie would prove useless in this fight, Elliot on the other had should have had plenty of combat experience.

“I don’t want to arrest you,” Giltwith said, raising his hands to show the sincerity of his intentions. Noting this, Kiara nodded.

“Alright, so what do you want?”

“I…want to ask Elliot why he has abandoned his post,” he said with a look at the former Imperium agent. “That’s all. Just that.”

“Because I am a pregnant woman who just got hit in the belly by a fireball and is left with a severe burn wound. I want to know if my unborn child is still alive, although I don't see why that should be any of your concern.”

“No. I suppose you’re right; it’s none of my business.”

Spencer shrugged, stepping out of the way to let her go free. And yet, that same knowing grin never left his face.

“Do be sure to give my regards to the baby, yeah? Children tend to listen to their mothers best.”

Elliot looked at Gilwith. "I just don't that the Catalyst- Kiara, I mean, is really such a bad person as we all assume she is. If she was, than Trixie wouldn't choose to help her and tell me stop attacking her. And I don't think that if she was willing to stop trying to hurt me, simply because of the fact that Trixie said that I'm a good person, that she's really that bad." He explained himself.

Trixie listened to his explanation quietly. She was glad to have her friend back again, even though both of them were at risk of losing their lives.

Jackson hated the grin on his face, but said nothing about it. "I will meet up with you and Gilwith once I'm done." She instead shortly answered.
