Hey guys, just wanted to get your opinions of something that happened in a nearby town where I live.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/justice-dept-will-review-practice-of-creating-fake-facebook-profiles/2014/10/07/3f9a2fe8-4e57-11e4-aa5e-7153e466a02d_story.html
http://www.buzzfeed.com/chrishamby/government-says-federal-agents-can-impersonate-woman-online#3axumyb
http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2014/10/governments_fake_facebook_page_rips_off_watertown_womans_identity.html

Apparently if you give a Federal Agent consent to view the content on your phone (But you never should, fuck them, they need a warrant.) they can steal pictures from it, make fake facebook profiles pretending to be you, post your private photos, and use your personal information to try and catch criminals - Putting you at risk of retribution from angry, pissed off criminals who think you fucked them over.

THis... Fuck man, when does a line get drawn? How many more illegal things can the Department of Injustice Justice get away with doing? Why the fuck is this seen as acceptable? Fuck, I don't understand why they could get away with this, and why they thought doing this was a good idea.

Bigger government does not nesscessarily result in something like this. This is simply corruption which can take place in everything. Anyway, better this than letting it fall into the hands of Corporations no?

No, actually, because corporations can't use force. I could take a dump on Mark Zuckerberg's desk and all he could do would be the same that any other joe schmuck could do. A small goverment would maintain the monopoly on force and would be less valuable to the rich and powerful, so they wouldn't buy Congressmen so often. This is the product of letting goverment control a larger share of our lives. An equivalent to this in the 1940s would have been cause for impeachment.

This is about the government. It's already political. We could all comiserate about the problem or we could talk about how we got here and derive solutions from that.

What the hell are you talking about, Corporations can use force just fine. You ever hear about Black Water, or Titan Corp, or the bank that had it's own army that would kill people off. Those guys are Brutal man, they make any government sanctioned agent look like a saint. Shit on their CEO's desks i dare you.

^ Blackwater and Titan Corporation no longer exist. When they did exist they were private security contractors that operated solely on the license of the United States federal government, primarily in an assistance role in Bush's war in Iraq. Businesses, even security contractors, are more accountable to the public than any government, and hundreds of thousands of times less powerful.

I doubt that the mods would lock the page over that.

Anyway, I'd like the opinions of people on this, if you don't mind.

US Government gets away with a lot of things. The people are just too apathetic or ignorant to do anything about it, so it must not be a major issue.

Well, if the people did something about, they will be overpowered by the police.

Our police are armed better than our military sometimes.

No, but our vote doesn't really matter sometimes as someone throws a bitch fit and demands a recount.

I'm not a Democrat. I ditched the political party circus a long time ago.

You'll come to learn that neither one of these parties care about your well-being or the well-being of this country. But it'll take a major event, probably a negative event, to make you and others realize this.

Forgive me if I'm wrong in this statement, but I take it you don't vote? You can change the government by voting new officials in who you think won't do what you don't like. If you don't vote to try and change the government, then you can't complain about how the current government is. You've done nothing to try and change it.

If they did something violent and illegal, definitely. And could you give proof of this? I've seen this thrown around, with nothing to back it up. And Ferguson doesn't count. It's a mess over there with idiots running amok. Should some cops be punished for things they've done? Yeah. Some rioting looters too. It's not going to happen though. Hard to prove things in the chaos.

I doubt that. Armed with military gear sometimes, I can believe. Better? I doubt.

I don't call putting the same crooks into positions of power over and over again voting. It's the very definition of insanity, not democracy. Those that try to demean and downgrade others for not voting are only striving for a petty moral high-ground in a vain effort to make themselves feel more important than what they actually are. It's pathetic, and only reinforces the fact that you are a misguided sheep ignorant of what really goes on in your nation.
