John grunts out a response, "It's because he wasn't expecting me to punch him. Both times I've fought Jack, he's known that I was going to attack him." He sets the weight down just long enough to say, "I know you wouldn't be able to spot me, that's why I'm doing less than I could."

Anthony scans Connor's reply and, not deeming it worthy of a response, ignores it. Once he and Kijani are on the road, he asks, "I can begin to tell you what I've discovered about your grandmother now, or at the house. Which do you desire?"

"Surprise does make a good attack. I could barely lift what I was lifting. Now, I might be able to do to with telekenisis" Kalinda said thoughtfully "I've never really tested the limit of that. Might have to. I'll just put it on my list of things to learn"

Devika nodded, understanding now. "Oh, that's pretty cool! Though I imagine it would make owning a pet impossible..." She thought about that. "Come to think of it, I can't go to zoos or pet shops myself. I've always wanted a cat, but can't have one." She wondered what it was like to not look human.

Kijani snickered faintly at the 15% line. "Really? I was expecting a flat zero from you. You must be in a generous mood." She then considered his question, folding her hands under her chin and looking briefly lost in thought. "...I'd rather hear it later, because depending on what the information is, you may not want to be in an enclosed space with me."

Griffin lead the way to the parking lot. He wondered if he should have their father sent them a car. They didn't get off campus often, but it would be nice to have the option. Griffin decided to do that tomorrow. Fortunely the burger place wasn't far. Only a couple of blocks. As they entered Griffin asked "Why have you been down lately?"

Maxine wasn't sure what a zoo was but the pet shop sounded interesting. She was going to have to ask more about that later. "Why couldn't you have a cat?"

Without really needing to say anything Maxine cocked her head to the side with a confused expression. What did that mean?

Anthony shrugs, "What can I say, it's been I while since I've last..." He coughs quietly and says, "My apologies, that was inappropriate. Also, if you throw a tantrum in my house when you find out more about your grandmother, you better not damage any of my possessions. If you do, I'll feed you to my tigers."

John puts the weight down after ten more reps and says, "Then let's try it. How much do you want to start with?"

She froze for a second. Phoebe's father was Batman!? That was so cool!

But that was the wrong emotion and thought at the moment. If that were the case, and Batman was almost never wrong, then perhaps now was a good time to entrust him with whatever she knew.

"We... I last saw her at the forest, where our class had the forest paintball wargame. I don't think anyone else saw her, but I talked to her."

"I miss her too, Principal Wayne."

Free to move about, Estella walks down one of the halls. Her fists were clenched and she was focusing intently at moving forward. The effects were showing already. They were manageable right now though. But why is it setting in so soon? She was fighting like she was supposed to. What was different?

Devika noted her confusion and smiled apologetically. "I'm an empath. I exude emotions and other people can feel them. I think animals can feel it well, too, but perhaps a lot stronger. They dislike it, I think. They stay away from me."

Kijani let out a faint snort. "I figured you and Sue were..." She paused to think of a word. "Intimate. But that's none of my business." A slight frown crossed her face. "You have... tigers? At your house?" She laughed softly. "That's a very... stereotypical thing, Anthony. I mean, it could be worse? You could have a glass floor with a basement aquarium full of sharks." She gave him an amused look. "So what is it? Proving your dominance over the lesser creatures?"

Kalinda stared at him for a moment, as if trying to figure out if it was a joke or not. "Oh, gods, you're serious. The heaviest thing I've lifted, without being charged up on emotions, is my mother" She said. "I was careful, after my abilities manifested, to stay away from people. trying to lift a car in the street might have gotten me in trouble. The more emotional I am, the stronger my telekinetic abilities are, which doesn't help for finding out how strong they are initial"

She took her gloves off, which she had been wearing all the time the last day, and thought briefly. She approached John and the Weight he had been lifting. "May as well start with heavy, then work up or down"

Without the slightest idea if she could do it or not, she raised both hands gently into the air. She didn't need to use her hands, but it was a good focusing tool. The weight slowly rose. Kalinda grimaced, keeping her hands steady, even if the rest of her was shaking with the exertion of lifting it, she stumbled slightly. She didn't lift it high, setting it back down in seconds, and let out a breath, not realising she had held it.

She sat down on the floor, inhaling slowly. "Hell, you're frigging crazy to lift that much" Her abilities would grow as she did, she knew that. One day, she'd be able to lift that with ease, she knew.

Bruce nods and signs, "Thank you Sue. Will you please send Katherine back in, then prepare to leave." While waiting for Sue to leave, Bruce thinks, "The fact that she's been back once means that she already misses the school and her friends. That should make things easier."

Anthony frowns while replying, "The only reason owning tigers is 'stereotypical' is because they're incredible creatures, so of course people would want them." In response to her question, Anthony gives a little smile and says, "I certainly don't speak for every tiger owner when I say this, but I love the natural grace and regality that tigers possess. I also enjoy the fact that underneath their normally calm demeanor is a ferocity and power that most other animals can't match. I suppose I also find a certain satisfaction in being around beings that are dangerous and learning how to make them harmless towards me."

John laughs, "Not as crazy as you! I started small, which you probably should have done also. Good job though!" He hands Kalinda the water bottle he had brought with him to the gym and asks, "Want to try it again with less weight?"

That made more sense to Maxine and she nodded. After a couple seconds an idea came to her mind and she got excited. "Oh, I can ask one of them for you next time!"

"I know I'm crazy" Kalinda said, accepting the bottle of water, "no wonder my mother's so adamant I learn to control my emotions" She sighed, and stood, "Yes, way less this time"

John nods and takes off most of the weights, leaving only one hundred pounds on the bar. "Go for it. Try to hold it for a minute, if you can."

This time, Kalinda planted her feet to try and maintain her balance as she went to lift the weight. Definitely easier this time, it rose smoothly and stayed floating when she stopped lifting it up. Still, as the seconds ticked by, it grew harder to keep it up, and when she was sure a minute had passed, she set it down quickly. "I guess its going to be like anything else. Building up stamina"

Kijani offered him a faint smile in return. She hadn't expected that answer, and it seemed to have an unusual level of honestly to it, when she considered who it came from. It was a facet of Anthony she hadn't considered existed. "...Well, I guess if you're going to own a pet, you may as well do it right." She leaned back in the comfortable seat and shut her eyes. While she didn't trust Anthony nearly enough to sleep around him, she wouldn't mind a moment's quiet. "Wake me when we're there, hm?"

Devika looked surprised, then pleased. "You can speak with animals? That's... that's awesome! I'd love to know if I can stop making my friends' pets freak out."

That went over better than expected. A lot of people didn't believe Maxine when she said she could speak to animals. "I sure can. I think it's the best. I'm glad you like it too." The girl smiled brightly. The people here were different, more accepting of her abilities. Staying was a better idea than she thought.

With a shrug, John replies, "I wish I could give you some pointers, but I don't know any more about lifting things with your mind than jumping through shadows"

Anthony nods, "As you wish." After thirty minutes of driving, Anthony nudges Kijani slightly and says quietly, "We're here, Ms. Rayne."
