Kyra sat in the hall, her back against the wall as she watched students go from place to place.

"You're the son of Scarecrow. We should compare notes sometime. I've been doing a study on the effects of fear on humans." Flood mentioned as he looked at the new girl. He picked a fry off his plate and flung like a knife at her. He then got up and began walking with Nicholas and Devika.

Nicholas unimpressed by what Flood said because in his own opinion his work is much better and he has made a chemical that could trigger fear but he doesn't fear that would be a problem.Nichloas walked down the hallway getting the same looks form the students form before.

Devika walked between the two males. She could definitely sense the growing competition between them. It made her want to shake her head. Hopefully they'd get over it. She just followed, before softly asking a question to break the silence. "Could you go over the particulars of the experiments with me?"

[Flood]

"Yes I'd enjoy hearing about it. Since you seem so uninterested in my offer, yours must be so superior." Flood remarked sarcastically as he became annoyed with Nicholas. He seemed to be a very egotistical person from what he could tell.

[Mistress Dizzy]

"Please... come back! Please!"

Kijani was locked in a nightmare. She was naked, the scar across her torso raw and red. Bright, blindingly white spotlights shone down on her from above, illuminating every flaw, every weakness, every bit of ugliness in her. Shadows pointed and laughed at her, hurling insults that stung like barbs. In the background were people she knew. Her parents. Her grandmother. Anthony. Connor.

She reached out for them, with tears streaming down her face. The salt in her tears burned her skin, which seemed to be burning from the inside out- but she couldn't stop crying. "Mother, Father!" She hadn't called them that since she was eight. "Please! Please, help me..."

They turned their backs on her. The word rung through the air, in her head, all around.

Useless.

They were gone, fading into the shadows, adding to the laughter and jeers.

Kijani's head whipped around, desperate. "Grandmother? Please, help me."

Waller shook her head and turned her back, walking away.

Weak.

Kijani flinched, her hand still outstretched, fingers desperately reaching.

Her gaze turned to Anthony, and her yellow eyes met his, which were pure silver.

"Anthony, my... friend, please..."

Anthony stared down at her, and he laughed. He laughed, his gaze scornful and demeaning as he stuck his hands in his pockets and walked away.

Worthless.

Distraught and nearly hyperventilating, she turned to Connor. He was the only one left that she recognized.

"Connor, please... help me. I... I know I've never asked, I know I push you away... but.. I love you, and I wish I had the... the strength to admit how much I really do... need you..."

Her words seemed to fall on deaf ears. Connor simply shook his head, and turned his back as well, fading into the dark.

Unwanted.

There was no one left for her. No one would help her, no one cared. She was invisible, she was nothing, she might as well not exist!

With nothing left but despair, she started to scream, and scream, and scream-

Kijani jerked awake as a sharp pain jolted her head, and a loud thud echoed in her vicinity. "Agh-" Her throat was raw, and her head was stinging. She reached up to touch it, and nearly got shocked. The metal inhibitor that had circled her forehead had snapped in two, and was hanging from her head, still live and sparking. With a faint swear, she tugged the pieces away and tossed them across the room.

The bookcase in her room had tipped over completely, scattering books and papers all over the floor. The noise of that had likely woken her up. Kijani wiped her face, which was wet with tears, and she got up, going to her small bathroom to try and clean up. Once she was sure she could speak without her voice trembling, she called Connor.

The phone rang and rang. When it was picked up, she knew her voice sounded panicked, but she couldn't relax. "Connor, it's me. Ah... could you... come over when you have some time?"

Connor had packed up his things, heading towards the cafeteria, to grab some lunch, his expression hard as he tried to think of a way to help Kijani. Anthony was probably lucky he wasn't at school, because Connor didn't think he would have been able to react calm and rational towards him.

As his phone rang, he had to put his laptop down, and riffle through his pack to find it, answering it before it went to voice mail. seeing it was Kijani, he answered it. Hearing her panickied voice, Connor already picked up his gear again, and headed over towards the girl's dormitories.

"Sure" He said calmly, "A few minutes" he moved across the grounds swiftly, and was at the girls dorms in a matter of minutes, making his way up to Kijani's room. He hesitated, then knocked on the door. "Kijani?"

Kijani didn't bother to smooth her hair or fix her clothes. At this particular moment, she didn't care, and knew Connor wouldn't. She opened the door and yanked him inside, then nearly collapsed in his arms. Her eyes were red-rimmed from when she'd cried in her sleep, and her bookcase and it's contents were still on the ground. For a while she didn't speak, just rested against the only person that still acknowledged her, even if she didn't understand why. "

"Connor... I broke the inhibitor." She leaned back and pointed to the cracked device on the ground. "And possibly my bookcase."

Connor caught Kijani, regaining his balance from being yanked inside. He nudged the door shut, and then just leaned against it with Kijani, wrapped his arms around her. He stood there patiently with her, silent, just waiting for her to speak. Apart from the bookcase, there didn't appear to be any sign of a fight, so he was sure that that wasn't it.

He looked over at the device, wondering how she had done it, but didn't ask, as she seemed distressed. "Well, you seemed to have broke it safely, except for the bookcase. We can fix the book case easily enough if it's broken. Are you okay?" He asked

Nicholas said now opening the door to his dorm,He swing it open walking and closing it behind them,The room was very neat and tidy and was filled with small shelves of books."I have been working on my experiments for the past year or so mostly on rats and I have never done it on a human,From the reaction on the rats my improved fear gas seems to be working perfectly.." He said walking to a small lab with things like beakers and what not,Although he sort of lied he did use his dead gas but on a bully named Jim Kazer.

I get them, sometimes, but they're usually about Alpha. This one was..." She flinched, and shook her head. "Awful." She sat on the edge of her bed, rubbing at her eyes. "I'm like a stupid child... I know nightmares are not real, they're just a product of the imagination. But the... the fear I felt in it was... very much real."

Nicholas could tell by her tone of voice that she wasn't liking his lab already but he would continue talking anyway."The rats have been very responsive to the gas and i have improved on a few of my father's chemicals..." He said now stopping in front of small vault underneath the desk.Nicholas bent down to punch in the password which was something no one would get because of the complected word itself and the nature of if,He then pulled out a few things like plastic viles with the gas,a few books on chemistry and a old looking scarecrow mask the one his father use to wear.

Nicholas then put away the books and closed the vault taking the mask with one and walking over to the plastic cage.The vile in his his hand had a browish gas inside that Nicholas put a syringe into the top part to suck up all the gas then transferring it into the plastic cage were the rat was being held.Now he watched the gas surround the rat purring on the scarecrow mask looking directly into the eyes of the fearful rat.

Devika tilted her head, watching calmly. "Well, it certainly looks scared." She took several steps back to make sure she wasn't ruining his tests. Animals did not like her at all, and she couldn't be sure that the rat was doubly scared because she was in the room. "If I could ask a question, Nicholas... How do you know the rats aren't responding to the mask, instead of the gas? I mean, it's kind of freaky all on it's own. Maybe you need to do some test runs without the mask, to make sure you're not adding in an extra variable or something."

Nicholas stated watching the rats running around the cage some of the fainting some were biting at each other,"Fear that is what they feel...and that is how my experiment is succeeding but i need a human subject to make sure i can surpass my father's work..." He said standing back up turning to face them with the mask still on.

"How interesting." Flood remarked as he observed the rats and Nicholas' room in general. He saw one book on psychology that was thought to be lost forever. "I'm sure that there is someone in this school who is "willing" to be a test subject if someone were to look hard enough." Flood remarked slyly as he took out a notepad. On it were multiple names and a title of "Test Subjects."

Connor sat down gently beside Kijani, listening as she spoke. "It's not stupid to have nightmares." He said softly "nightmares are very much real. Yes, the come from your imagination, from your fear...but maybe in some way they are real. Especially in a school like this. There has to be some side effects of living here, with so many people with powers." He sighed "there's nothing wrong with feeling fear. But you have to talk about it, or it will just get worse and worse. There is nothing wrong with having nightmares. one out of every two adults has nightmares on occasion."

He fel as if he couldn't comfort her, so he slowly fell silent, wishing he could just make everything better

Nicholas slowly took the notepad form his hand taking a quick look at the names of the people on the notepad,He found a few good subjects but the question was would the school allow such things."I don't think the teachers nor the students would want me to do my little experiments on them...so i would have to find some way to conceal my work form any prying eyes" He put the syringe down on the table beside the rat cage.

"Make them think it was a nightmare. Don't leave physical scars, make sure they wake up in their own bed, and most importantly make sure they don't see your face. Of course another option is to grab thugs and criminals off the streets, but that requires a bit more effort." Flood suggested. "Perhaps I could even help you out. I always try to keep myself busy."

Kijani laughed and shook her head. Quietly, she leaned against Connor, pressing her cheek against his chest. "Talk about it, huh?" She let out a breath of a sigh, and just started talking, before she could psych herself out of it. "I was in a dark place. I was naked, and there were lights on me. They were so bright that they burned. I couldn't move." She flinched and clutched her side. The scar pain was flaring up just thinking about it. "I saw my parents, and my grandmother, and Anthony, and you... One by one you walked away. None of you wanted to help me, even though I begged." She shut her eyes, starting to tremble. "It was clear that I was alone, and no one cared, and I was going to die by myself, in pain..."

"Are you suggesting to being a subject?Perhaps we can work that to a product that could be strong enough to take down Superman..." Nicholas sighed handing the notepad back to Flood and took off his mask putting his glasses back on that were on his dresser."I think it would be best if we used criminals no one would know and we cannot get into trouble,But the only problem is Batman might find out and students seem like a higher risk..." He added looking at Devika.

Connor listened, grimacing. He slid an arm around Kijani when she leaned against him. He swallowed, and said softly "you expect, you fear that everyone's just going to abandon you, and perhaps that was true for your parents, your grandmother. And Anthony never does anything unless it benefits him. It's not going to be true for me" he said softly, "you never have to ask for my help. I care" he fell silent for a while, just hoping to be a comforting presence. Then he sighed, "nightmares being out the biggest thing you fear. And it's always the hardest to conquer"
