Free, the moment I get home, you are gonna show me what I'm doing wrong. Or just tell me if I should try anymore. Ugh, I just don't know.

It was also going to be something to give my character a drive to do something other than just learning magic but means to get more godstone and ways to mend the sword. He doesn't want to have a broken prison as a weapon where the prisoner is trying to kill him at a daily basis. Not to mention tormenting him through nights via visions of a giant snake devouring the world. And then there is the weight that it's the character´s responsibility to carry the sword due to family sense of honor and what not.

Get another sword that serves the same purpose in the family. Imagine a sword carried by his great grandfather in a huge war, which allowed him to survive against legions with his men. A sword made of a slightly above-average material (but otherwise normal qualities) and of great, durable design. It holds all the symbols the other sword had for the family, and could be pretty worn out to the point that your character wants to fix it, or search for better metals to coat it with.
