**Appearance:** He appears to be a youth in his late teenage years, one of the more matured students, with an [exquisite weapon](http://kultofathena.com/images%5CAB0314BK_l.jpg) by his hip at all times. It has never been unsheathed in front of human eyes.
Ryouta Himonaga has a relaxed appearance, his dyed autumn hair sways over his eyebrows in dishevelled spikes and the rest of his head is almost always a little messy. He keeps his sideburns longer and they give him a more mellowed appearance. Handsome even, to many people. He is of average height but his Magician's uniform makes him look taller (especially when his hood is up), it denotes him as a capable spellcaster within the academy - a fact that he himself isn't sure of.
Two crests are sewn into his right sleeve, one denoting the nature of his spells, represented by an octogram with a cross within. And another that marks him as a member of the Magical Research Society , a division within the Magi cohort that granted him membership because of the relic he carries.

Eyes under the bed. STrange stains on the sidewalk. Doorways to other world in the darkest corners.
These things were news to everyone when the gates to the other side opened, big news. But for Ryouta Himonaga, nothing changed. He always knew the world was a place beyond most people's understanding, that there was a side not many knew about, some even called him 'mental' when he was young. The child who would see things that 'weren't there', hear whispers in the ground and talk to strangers of thin air. But as the japanese saying goes "The nail who stands out must be hammered down." Society eventually had him hide away his secrets and keep them out of the light to appear normal as best as he could, he even managed to go through high school as a slightly popular individual with his good grades.
But then, his town was struck with one of the first few gates. Within nights, the population of Kumagaya had reduced to 30% and those who could not be evacuated in time were barely surviving. It was during this time that in an inspired moment, Ryouta quickly ran to the shrine in the center of town and picked up the old ritual sword, one of the sacred treasures used by their priests once said to ward them from disasters in ancient past. He wielded it, he felt his calling. He went to confront his first opponent.
Like a fIsh to water, Ryouta slayed his fIrst monster. The incantations of old no longer used to bless houses and banish spirits, they were now weapons against a new enemy. The people, now with newfound strength, took back their town and cut down any who stood in their way. The streets became paved with the blood of countless beasts and earned Kumagaya it's new nickname "The Red Village".
When AcadeMMO set up it's establishments, recruiters were sent to the red village and Ryouta, along with many other townsfolk, joined the crusade against these unclean creatures.
Statistics: Ryouta is never in a hurry to go anywhere. In combat he utilizes slow, graceful sidesteps to avoid his opponents and then strikes foRcefully when an opportunity presents itself.

Spells/Skills:
**Flash Step (1)**- Based on the theorems of geomancy and walking in the old ways, the practitioner traverses many meters in a single illusory step. It has origins from ancient lore and is considered a form of mortal magic, perhaps heightened by the appearance of the gates. Ryouta can only use this while holding a sacred weapon. Requires 10 MP. Maximum of 10 yards movement, improves to 10 meters upon level up.
**Prayer For Calmness (1) **- An incantation rebuking disaster and dispelling hostilities, it is chanted in a forgotten dialect once used by the aseptics to protect homes. Now it binds these vicious spirits that do not belong to this world and weakens them as they are trapped in a grand symbol, till they return to where they came or otherwise. It even works on some people. Requires 10 MP. Pits Magic against Resistance, upon success holds the creature still for 1 minute during which it is considered weakened. The irresistability and amount of targets improves with level up.
Incantation: "Iye yoo yui. No bo meno." In a grand, song-like tone.
**Sacred Sword (1) -** On command, Ryouta's weapon, with sheathe intact, lashes out from a distance to strike down his foe before returning to it's handler. This is an ability of the sword itself and Ryouta is merely one who wields it, he can only control it's movement by pointing. This extraordinary feat has led some to suspect that the blade has a mind of it's own and seeks to destroy evil even when confined. Requires 10 MP. Adds Magic to Attack for a single strike at range. Number of strikes improves with level. This is an inherent ability of anyone who currently holds the sacred weapon's talisman (the red ornament at the hilt is detachable).
Incantation: Anything. Really. As long as Ryouta points towards the target. (He can even do it like Oprah: "And you get a sword! And YOU get a sword!" It will still work. :/)
