You know, that whole power difference thing could easily be fixed by not allowing S Classes to fight normal mages? It's going to happen anyways with the current setup, because whether or not the teams are chosen by the guild or by the mages, there's going to be a mix.

Plus, unless each guild is allowed to pick several teams, there's no way everyone is going to get a chance to even be in the games the old way.

Well the majority has voted no for the free for all. And the S-Ranks of the guilds battle normal members is just about as unfair as it gets.
Hmm? What how many S-Ranks do we have active? Perhaps we can fit them into their own little category, something akin to the strongest S-Rank in Fiore. Alongside the strongest guild award, we'll present the strongest S-rank.

I don't think people understand what I meant by "Free for all"...

I don't mean everybody is fighting at once. I mean the teams aren't based on what guild your in. Nathan could team up with Sage or whatever, Sable could team up with Aiden (As if that would ever happen), and unlike with guild specific teams, everyone could join.

@chukklehedThat'd make for an interesting segment, but I don't see how it would work in a competition like this, where the main goal is to have your guild come out on top. That would be more appropriate for a competition for the strongest Mages.

And why can't the GMG be exactly that? It might make sense for the council to get it changed to a "Mage vs Mage" tournament rather than a "Guild vs Guild" one to prevent the possibility of it starting wars between guilds.

@chukklehedBut then wouldn't the guild v guild system work better for that, as it allows them to work do battle against Rivals in a controlled environment. It's already a proxy war when you think about, kinda like the chunin exams in the Naruto series.

except because it's ranked, it's likely just to cause more tension between the guilds. Remember all the blackmail and stuff that went on in the Canon one, and that time Natsu completely rekt everyone in Sabertooth?

If the games are to determine individual strength instead, there'd be a whole lot less of that kind of thing, and it would generally have the same effect as ranking the guild, because whichever guild the winner of the games is in would be considered the "strongest"

A competition like that would outright bully weaker characters, effectively keeping them out of it. It's more inclusive to be guild v guild.

How exactly would a competition where a mage could choose their own partners, and otherwise is exactly like the original GMG, unfair to less powerful characters?

How would having partners and teaming up be showing individual strength then? The idea you're suggesting is to completely scramble guilds.

The idea I'm suggesting is to let people chose their own partners. It's not like you're not allowed to team up with your own guild members.

I would support this if: enough reasons were presented as to why would a mage select that partner he wants and a reason as to why that partner would accept their invitation.

Then, there is the problem that, in a mage vs mage scenario, the elite mages even if they are partnered with weaker ones are bound to give their team the upper hand, just because of their level. In a 2v2 situation, its a lot harder for the weaker couple to win when faced with an overwhelmingly strong opponent even if the weaker team showed top-notch cooperation. However, in a 5v5 situation, cooperation between multiple teammates can potentially overcome one very strong opponent.

@chukklehed I hate to say this but I'll be denying the idea for now. We can make an exception for you and Nicholas. Perhaps some special case in which said characters are forced to team-up.

If you want, you can suggest ways we can get you and Nicholas teamed up for a round.
