I got sick of cleaning so I took a break and wrote a thing.
Rokurou frowned. The brawny man kept sneaking peaks at his watch. It wasn’t like Sato to be late, though he reasoned that it also wasn’t like himself to be calling emergency jogs in the middle of the night. Only illuminated by the old street lights lining the route, Rokurou started a tired run down the usual path. Seconds after he started, the male stopped, as a familiar voice called out to him. He pivoted on his heel to see who it was, slowing down his pace as he ran backwards. Sato quickly caught up to him in his plain white attire he usually wore on their runs. ”You’re late,” Rokurou stated with a sneer.
“It’s already late, Rokurou.” Sato replied, swiftly pulling a sweater over his body. ”And it’s cold. Why are we here again?” The two synced their pace together so that they were running side-by-side. Neither felt inclined to move on from what life had been like during highschool, especially Sato, but a year had already slipped by. It’d become routine; almost even day after school, Rokurou went on a run with Sato, and every odd day, Sato studied with Rokurou. Archery club was a distant memory by the second semester. Dropping those things once they both got busy left something to be desired in both their lives.
Rokurou huffed, both in an attempt to hide his increasingly heavy breathing and to express his dislike for the question. “It’s been a couple months since we last ran like this. Not like this, but—you get my point.” Sato nodded, but Rokurou was too focused on keeping in sync with his shorter friend to notice. He always seemed to be going slower or Sato was faster or Sato had longer strides or he had shorter.
“I’ve been keeping it up, but it’s obvious you haven’t. You better not be subsiding off junk food again, Rokurou.” Sato sniffed, feeling the fluid gathering in his sinuses. It was an awfully cold night for a run. Rokurou ran a little ahead before stopping at a bench before an old cherry tree and flopping down on it. ”It’s not good to sit down after a run. Or during a run, I guess.”
Despite his protests, Sato sat down beside Rokurou and looked at his face. The broader male’s black yellow-striped collar blocked the view of the bottom half, so Sato pulled it down to see the recently shaved jaw-line. ”I’ve been eating good, I’ll have you know! I just got a really shitty metabolism you see.”
”Sure,” Sato snorted.
Rokurou leaned forward, hanging his hands down between his legs. ”I know you’re heading off to university next week, so I thought we should spend some time together before you ditch this town. And y’know, between my jobs and whatever the hell you do, this was the only time we were both free.”
Sato smiled a heart-melting smile. ”I’m not going far, just the next town over. You can come find me whenever I’m available if you’d like. I tend to stay on top of my studies well enough to get myself some well-deserved free time.” Rokurou chuckled to himself, and the sylph-like boy shot him an inquisitive glance.
”My parents are still bitching to me about how I’m not going to college immediately. I think some folks need to see that there’s sometimes more important things than education.” Sato laughed at the comment for no reason, as he sidled a little closer to Rokurou. The larger teen blocked some of the cold winds. And his body heat was warming too.
After neither added anything after a while, Sato broke the silence with a proposition. ”Mind if I get a little closer? Nobody’s around at this hour, and I’m chilly.”
Rokurou gave a toothy smile. ”C’mere,” He pulled Sato into him, wrapping an arm around the boy’s body. Sato fell into the broad frame without hesitation. God, how he missed the familiar embrace. And would miss it. As the wind picked up, Sato crept his hands up into Rokurou’s shirt, causing the boy the jump a bit as Sato’s icy hands touched the bare skin.
”Softer than I remember,” he mumbled, burying the side of his face in Rokurou’s chest.
”Shut up,” Rokurou whispered back as he rested his chin in Sato’s hair. ”I’m not fat.”
