The races, planet, setting, and some system and story elements are taken from Endless Legend. While this RP is based on its (slightly re-interpreted) lore, any sort of playtime with the game itself is by no means a requirement.
Story
Auriga. Our dying star. Our fading cradle. Our moribund haven. Ages ago our planet Auriga was subjected to a civil war among the Endless, an ancient and mysterious civilization who are also said to be the earliest form of intelligent life. Much can be told about the Endless- their advanced technologies, their marvelous societies, and especially the uncountable shards that their nation eventually broke into. The history of the Endless is glorious but tragic- though they were able to master the secrets of space and time, the stars, and life, they were unable to comprehend their own internal strife. All that remains of them now are strange and disjointed traces in the form of seeds or observatories or rock formations or experiments or cities. The civil war on Auriga devastated the planet, and the few survivors hid underground or wherever they could for so long that no one could recall when the cataclysm really occurred. When the various tribes emerged from hiding a millenia ago and began to re-colonize the planet once more, all seemed to have recovered. Factions were founded, wars were fought, and civilization slowly found its way back to Auriga. However- it has been observed by many that the planet has been hosting longer and harsher seasons as the years pass- a fact that has led to a single, startling discovery- we live on a dying planet. There is a very loose and nervous peace among the major races and kingdoms of Auriga now (save for the carrion-like Necrophages, who seem ever interested in eternal conflict, and the scheming Cultists, who seek only to further their own agenda) to try and engineer a plan to save their home. It was decided that while practical solutions would be debated upon a team of representatives would look to study the Endless- this all-star team of explorers, warriors, scholars, and politicians was dubbed the Tribunal, and contained a representative from each of the major factions whom have created the loose peace: the Vaulters, Wild Walkers, Broken Lords, Roving Mages, Roving Clans, and Drakken. You are one of the six members of the Tribunal, representing your loyalties and your faction's ideals. Will you set aside your own nation's beliefs for the good of Auriga? Will the Tribunal be able to set aside their differences to work together? Can Auriga- your home, be saved?
Dust
Dust is the lifeblood of Auriga, and the internationally recognized currency. Not only that, but it is from Dust that magic is possible- it's effects and uses are widely known and recognized though new discoveries are being made about the resource almost weekly. Dust is also used as a referral to one's literal lifeforce- all living beings, in some capacity, are connected to Dust. Each faction interacts with Dust a little differently, but I want to try and keep the forces behind this resource a mystery. More details on how each faction interacts with it can be found below.
Factions
So for this RP I am looking for one representative for each faction (except the Necrophages and Cultists)- and since your character would have to have been chosen to represent the entirety of the nation they probably would have had to agree, above all else, that you embody your nation's beliefs and values. As such, I ask that all characters believe- at least at the beginning, while the Tribunal is in its infancy- that they and their nation have what it takes to save Auriga. That's what I want the RP to be about- a group of vastly differing beliefs struggling to work together for the good of their own planet. So, anyways, onto the factions--
OOC
So what I'm looking for is around six others, one for each hero from a playable faction. Your character is part of the Tribunal put together to investigate other non-conventional means of saving Auriga- first and foremost, that means studying the Endless as well as searching for any artifacts in ruins they left behind. I'll pit the planet itself against our party, and with the Necrophages ever encroaching on the Ardent Mages in the north, and with the Cult of the Eternal End conjuring more power every year, the Tribunal will certainly have its hands full.

Very interested. Have a question though. For example, if I were to request an Ardent Mage could I shape that world & lore a bit or do you have a whole history on them? I find it a bit difficult to create/play a character if I don’t have a bit of free run with them. Like, could I create a capital and so forth?

I question why the Cultists would be involved, considering their ultimate goal is to literally destroy the world, and then, if they have the time, the entire universe. They only seem to use diplomacy insofar as they can twist and bend others to follow their own twisted philosophy.

Feel absolutely free to shape that world & lore a bit- I tried to be as nonspecific as possible to allow some freedoms while creating the "feel" for each faction, if that makes sense.

I'm a bit torn on them- I had interpreted their philosophy as destroying traces of their past as a way of separating themselves from it and starting new, though 'traces of their past' would probably encompass the entire planet, wouldn't it? In either case, they'll be hostile towards the other nations, especially the Tribunal, who want to study the very things that the Cult wants to get rid of for one reason or another.

And yet they have members on the Tribunal. That was sort of my whole point.

Oh, so they do. My bad- didn't mean to include them on that list. EDT: Took 'em off.

I'm extremely interested. I must admit though, until now I'd never even heard of Endless Legend so I'll have to do some reading on the lore.

It's a strategy game along the lines of Sid Meier's Civilization but fantasy-themed. A lot of the game is randomly generated when you start, so aside from the factions and planet setting there's actually not a ton of lore, since you're sort of creating it through a playthrough. Good game, though, would recommend if you like strategy games. There's actually a whole Endless series: Endless Space is more sci-fi and large scale, and spans an entire galaxy, Endless Legend is more fantasy-themed and spans only one planet (Auriga), and Dungeon of the Endless is sort of a tower-defense/RPG mashup.

Awesome! I'll definitely be doing some reading. It's been a long time since I've actually done any RP so I'm not sure if you'd care to have me or not, but I'd be glad to be a part of it. edit: Actually just noticed that I have Endless Space in my Steam library. Well I'll be damned.

There's still a lot of implicit lore you can find by reading the descriptions for technologies and unique artifacts in the game, on top of completing faction questlines. For example: The Drakken are IMPOSSIBLY persuasive. Their unique faction ability is that they can /force/ other factions to truce, peace, alliance, or war (with the sole exception of the Necrophages). While this might not sound powerful if you're familiar with more conventional 4X games like Civ5, changing your status with other factions in Endless Legend costs Political Prestige (on top of having to deal with the diplomacy AI) - so you literally sometimes cannot afford to go to war or make peace. While exploring ruins, you'll also occasionally run into a Drakken scholar who will convince you to randomly go to war with your neighbors. Their own questline is filled with even more of that. I wouldn't be surprised if a Drakken was leading the tribunal. @Ezrath, the Vaulters are actually associated with a particular party in Endless Space, so I am told. I've only played Endless Legend, so I wouldn't know all the details, but reading a little into Endless Space Lore might very well also be helpful.

That's good, because the Vaulters were the faction I was most interested in.

Glad to hear it. Actually, if you purchase the expansion for Endless Space, you can find Auriga in it, which has a unique wonder on it.

Can I lock down the Vaulters? If so, awesome. In my research into the lore of Endless I've found that there was a period of time where the Vaulters left Auriga to find their own permanent civilization, and then a certain Vaulter rediscovered Auriga and is making an effort to fix the planet to make it the permanent home of the Vaulters. Whereabouts in this period would you say we are? Based off of the lore you've put and the story you'd like us to roughly follow, I feel like the latter would be most likely but I figured I'd ask anyway.

They'd be the Zolyas, yes- I was planning on having a particular Zolya be the sort of "leader" of the Vaulters who is convening with the other world leaders to try and come up with the practical solutions, whereas the Tribunal are the team investigating less-than-conventional means. But if you were a fellow member of the Zolya bloodline I'd see no problem in that at all.
