The Adaptable Brain At birth, the portion of the brain that deal with vision, hearing, and all other senses are connected. As a sighted child continues to grow up, these connections begin to separate themselves from one another, until eventually independent centers in the brain control each of the different senses that a person can use. In a blind infant however, these connections might remain intact, and the job of processing sound might be shared by both the visual cortex, as well as the auditory processing centers. If a person loses his/ her sight during childhood or adulthood, the connections might have already been separated because myelin (the fatty sheath surrounding affected nerves) develops rapidly in the very young.
Neuro-Imaging Research into blindness has found that while regions in the brain that deal with vision are smaller in blind individuals than in that of those who still have their sight, other non-visual areas are increasingly larger. Looking into the brain's potential to adapt after blindness, researchers have found that blindness causes structural changes in the brain, indicating that the brain may reorganize itself functionally in order to adapt to a loss in sensory input; the area's in the brain dealing with memory, hearing, and other senses becoming enlarged in an attempt to compensate for the fact that the person can no longer see.
Echolocation A blind person can become quite adept at using echolocation (identifying an object by the sound or echo that it makes) while moving through the world around him/ her. Children or babies that are born blind use extra hand movements as they crawl, slapping the floor around them to create a kind of auditory and sensory feedback. The use of reflected sound by blind children helps them to explore and manipulate aspects of the sound world, other visually impaired individuals may make clicking noises to note the changes in sound as the distance between them and different obstacles shift; this can also be seen in animals such as dolphins and bats.
Using Touch To Explore The World The largest area of the brain's surface is devoted to the hand and the sense of touch, the skin being the largest organ of the body allows us to use this sense to the fullest, and the blind child is a "sensation" of information. Many blind individuals can feel changes in temperature as they near a window, wall, and other objects, relying on their enhanced sense of touch to help them explore the world around them.
A Deeper Vision Before the invention of non-invasive neuro-imaging, people could only speculate and look on in awe at the increased abilities that those who were blind seemed to posses. The well-known painter, Pablo Picasso explored the nature of blindness during his "Blue Period", some claiming that he was able to find an intensity of other senses in his depiction of the blind. Researchers state that what you lose in one place, you gain elsewhere, reinforcing the idea that other senses are not only affected but also enhanced by blindness.
Personality Traits: Sweet and charming, Syleste is an extremely loving and kind-hearted young woman who does her best to care for all those who are lucky enough to find themselves her friends, the dreamy-eyed girl showing her love and affection to all those close to her. Overly curious and full of life she tends to find herself, more often than not, walking into some sort of danger or trouble, the bubbly teenager never showing any signs that she's willing to let her disability get in the way of her living the life she wants to. Though coming off sometimes as shy at first when a situation seems to overwhelm her (large crowds of people surrounding her, loads of information being given to her, ect.), once she has had time to adjust Syleste has no issues putting herself out there for others to see, the girl never truly having an issue whenever it came to making friends.
Although a kind and graceful soul, Syleste is also known for being stubborn when it comes to something that she truly believes in, choosing to stand up for it rather than backing down once she has already made up her mind, usually making it near impossible to convince her otherwise. Quite mature and oddly grown-up for her age thanks to living her whole life with her disability, Syleste often does all she can not to be, or to be considered a "burden" to all those who are around her, the young woman doing everything she can and more to help out (cleaning, cooking, ect.), even sometimes choosing to put her own needs aside in favor of others, no matter how difficult the task may seem for her; the girl trying her best at everything and anything that she seems to set her mind to.
Coming across at times as being quietly confident and extremely calm, she sometimes tends to pull away from the company of others becoming very reserved and thoughtful, choosing instead to lose herself within her own mind and in her own little world. Unnaturally bright and unique in her own way, Syleste has the aptitude for thinking outside of the box on general occasion, always coming up with strange ideas that would normally otherwise be considered near impossible to pull off, though with the young woman's odd way of using her intelligence she is known for being able to twist them to the point of making it all work out.
Skills: Thanks to her disability, Syleste's other senses (hearing, smell, taste and touch) have become slightly more enhanced than that of a normal person, adding to her skills and talents when it comes to music, such as singing and playing piano. Syleste is also quite skilled when it comes to reading anything in braille, whether it be music sheets, books, or class notes.
Abilities: Dream walking/ manipulation - Syleste has the unique ability to enter a world she knows as "The Dream World", allowing her to slip in and out of the dreams of others, as well as allowing her to summon others into her own dreams. Along with this form of power, Syleste has also been able to master the ability to manipulate the dreams she see's around her, allowing her to bring both the sweetest of dreams to a person, as well as the most terrible of nightmares. Although with her gift also comes a terrible danger. While moving about the Dream World should a person, including herself get hurt, their injuries would transfer through the dreams before transferring to that persons physical body making this a dangerous form of magic that she very rarely chooses to use.
*This particular ability (mostly) only happens to work if the person contacting/ or being contacted by Syleste, is in the same country as she is in, it does not work across oceans; the only exception to this being if she has a strong bond with the person being contacted/ contacting her.
Sleep Manipulation - Along with her ability to manipulate and walk through the dream realm, Syleste also has the power to manipulate sleep within both herself and others around her, allowing her to not only induce and extract sleep from a person but to also manipulate and enhance all aspects of sleep itself.
*Though unaware of this particular ability, once Syleste is able access and use her sleep manipulation powers to their fullest extent, she will be able to use:
Sleep Manipulation - Once unlocked with the rest of her potential, Syleste will be able to manipulate the sleep patterns of a person, as well as be able to choose how long they are able to sleep for and how deep a sleep the person is having.
Inducing Sleep - Once unlocked with the rest of her potential, Syleste's abilities are strong enough to induce instantaneous sleep on biotic subjects, even to the extent that she could potentially be able to induce perpetual insomnia or push a person into a coma.
Extracting Sleep - Once unlocked with the rest of her potential, Syleste will be able to reduce and or remove a person's need for sleep all together, causing them to become dreadfully tired at all times, she will also have the power to awaken any sleeping person regardless of the circumstances.
Biography: Blind from birth and constantly being moved around from place to place due to her fathers position in the army, Syleste was always a curious and outgoing young child, her mother (mostly having to raise her on her own) always did her best to keep her close by her side, however it never seemed to stop her from always managing to find her way into trouble. Growing into a beautiful young teenager and quickly coming to the realization that she didn't want to rely or be a burden on her mother, she tried her best, taking on more of the responsibilities at home and allowing her mother a break from stressing over her daughters care and well-being. Receiving the news early about his deployment, Syleste sat back, doing all she could to help around the home as her father said goodbye, kissing her on the forehead before the General left to be shipped out to where the war effort needed him most.
Closing off slightly to those who had accepted her for who she was, she began to spend more time within her family home, the young woman spending most of her time either working on the music her father had loved to hear her play or spending her time reading alone in her room. Feeling sick from missing her father for as long as she had, Syleste separated herself from her mother choosing instead to retire early rather than staying up in her company, slipping into a slumber unlike any other that she had experienced before, she found herself standing conscious in a world she had never seen before, the very confused and slightly fearful figure of her father standing with her. Realizing what his daughter had managed to do, her father quickly sent word back home informing her mother as to just how special their daughter truly was, and how she would have to take extra care with her from now on, being sure to take her special needs into consideration.
Slowly opening back up over time after getting to see her father throughout the night in her dreams, Syleste began to become the confident and sweet young lady her parents had always wanted her to become, however her mother's fear of others bullying her daughter for her disability, mixed with her fear of those finding out just how different she was soon became a reality as the young girl continued to bloom. Trying to get through each and every day without too much trouble, the bubbly young teenager could often be found sitting on her own reading or studying, though with her curiosity for life playing on her mind she never ceased to find a way to try and satisfy the need to explore much to her overly-cautious mother's disgust.
Receiving a phone call from a man saying that he could help out, Syleste's mother quickly realized that it wasn't going to be easy to keep their daughter safe, and for her to stay within the family home, her mother quickly jumping at the chance of being able to supply her with the hope of a safe and semi-normal life. Packing up all her possessions, the two of them worked together with the help of the man who had given them the offer, the two of them saying goodbye at the train station, the young girl set on her way to a place where she thought she would have a better chance at life with people who would finally accept her for who she was.
Other: Though she may seem confident and semi-competent when it comes to things she sets her mind to, Syleste has a fear of swimming and is terrified at the very thought of deep water, along with this fear she is also scared of being left alone, and being treated differently due to her disability.
While quite talented in both singing and playing the piano, Syleste has found that she is more confident with her skills when she is on her own or with someone she is extremely close to, the young girl too shy and embarrassed to show her musical talents to others.
Understanding that people can become quite uncomfortable with her disability, Syleste keeps a bit of light blue and black material with her which she uses to hide her eyes from view, not wanting others to have to deal with the strange look of her eyes.
Scott stands at 6'4, he has a athletic build putting him at a weight of roughly 220 pounds. Scott has brown hair that he usually combs backwards in a modern hairstyle. He has clear blue eyes and a tanned complexion. His posture is incredibly good and one can see the determination in his steep. To anyone that sees Scott it's clear that he's a G.I who fought in the war against the Axis, it's in his posture and in the way he moves. He keeps a clean look and dresses in humble attires such as jeans, shirt and leather jacket. He rarely wears a suit.
| PERSONALITY TRAITS:|
Disciplined, intelligent, kind and mildly mannered are the most notable traits of Scott. He folds his clothes properly and he makes his bed. He exercises and is overall a very decent person. He values people and he sees individuals. Some would say he's a straight shooter, others would call him a boy scout.
He rarely thinks about himself in those terms, but he does make sure to always think over his actions and choices, analyzing every step he takes. Deep in him however, Scott has a lot of trauma since childhood that the war added to. These traumas have left him with quite the temper if that's brought out of him.
Scott practices control in his life, which is why discipline is so important for him. He has to keep himself in check, or he would slip. This is because of his powers and the incidents that have occurred because of them. Scott has a incredible sense of pride and responsibility, ever since he was a child and his powers first manifested themselves, as the accidental use of his powers made Scott not open his eyes for several years simply because he knew he would hurt someone.

Energy Projection: Scott Summers comes from a family of mutants, all of which has a certain kind of X-Gene. Those in the Summers bloodline have the gene and the gene allows each member to manipulate a special kind of energy blast from their body. The blast has various quantities, from being able to burn as hot as a flame to having the explosive power of a bazooka rocket. They are also immune to each other's energy blasts. This variation is dubbed the “Summers Particle” appropriately by Charles Xavier himself.
Scott is able to project energy blasts from the optic nerve in his eyes. His blasts are capable of melting steel with their heat. The concussive force is enough to tear tanks apart. As a child he could not control his powers but over the course of his life he has regained control of his powers and can now control his powers almost perfectly.

| BACKSTORY: |
Scott was born to a family with three boys, him being the middle child. However when he was 4 years old his older brother passed away because of disease. His life did get bizarre until he was 9 years old, when he, his younger brother, Alex and his parents were out on a plane ride, his father was a pilot. The plane malfunctioned and was going to crash. There was only one parachute so his parents told him to hold his brother and put the parachute on him before sending him out of the airplane.
Scott fell out of the plane holding Alex under him and ejected the parachute saving both of there lives. As the two brothers descended safely he could see the burning plane going down with his parents still aside. A feeling of complete helplessness washed over him knowing there was nothing he could do to save his parents.
He and Alex were found by the locals and taken to an orphanage, without proper identifications and being on the other side of the world it was impossible to identify the two boys. Thus they were put into a orphanage like so many other kids were. Scott found that his eyes hurt over the course of the next few months and he was getting violent headaches.
Scott and Alex were getting bullied by another kid whom was older and bigger than both of the Summers boys. He would punch them and steal their food and clothes. Until one day when he was picking on Alex and Scott got in between to protect his baby brother and Jordan beat him up and then started beating Alex to a pulp right in front of him. Scott whom was barely 10 years old at the time snapped and saw red. Literally. His eyes fired a concussive blast of energy that not only hit Jordan, but blew holes in the walls of the orphanage. Thus causing massive devastation. Scott refused to open his eyes again after the accident.
Half a year later Alex was adopted to a rich family, while Scott was still in the orphanage. He was now truly alone. Scott never got adopted but grew up at the orphanage. He spent his early years as a teen trying to learn how to control his powers. To turn the lights on and off. He realized it had to do with his emotions and he made sure to always keep his emotions in check. When he was 16 years old he traveled back home to the United States and enlisted in the army. He joined the army in 39, before pearl harbor and before the United States had any involvement in the war in Europe.
But then came the war and changed things. He was deployed to Africa to fight the Axis. He, along with many others fought the Axis all the way to the Nazi's doorstep in 44. He even joined Captain America and his Howling Commandos on a mission. He used his powers discreetly in the war, as to not be labeled a freak.
When he got home from the war he was approached by a man whom knew more about him than anyone else did. Someone who truly seemed to understand him, as if he could read his thoughts. His name was Charles Xavier and he had a proposition for him. To help him with his powers and to give him the chance to understand where they came from. To give him the chance to help others like him. Charles also introduced Scott to his friend, Erik. Another Mutant whom promised Scott that he and Charles would help Scott find his brother and understand what truly had happened the day that he lost his parents.
Scott has spent the last few months traveling Europe searching for his brother.
Should be noted that I wrote the CS offline, so I haven't had a chance to read everyone else's CS. So if anyone have anything they want me to change / add, just gimme a shout.
@Vicier Approved hun, but you already know that :) Ghost Shadow will be in contact with you for your flasback post.
@Hillan Scott looks great, though has potential for being a bit OP but I've known you long enough to know you know how to keep him in check :) Approved! Ghost Shadow will be in contact with you for your flashback post.
You reckon his optic blasters are op? They're right on par with his powers from the Evolution series! Cheers for the benefit of the doubt, though!
Maybe OP was the wrong phrase, I just meant that he has a higher grasp on his abilities than everyone else since everyone else is just learning about their mutation or they just don't know how to control it.
