Tumult-Acres Border, Morning

12 Hours Until Sunset

The sun rises on a broken world, as it has for three decades. The night has been uneventful, but far from silent. The sounds of Moblin iron clashing with bone and rotten meat resounded through the night, precipitated only by howls, battle cries, and screams. Luckily for you, the Moblin shantytown you had just left, one led by a proud warlord known only as No-Point, served as enough of a distraction for you to get to a safe distance.

The edge of the Twisted Acres is only about an hour's walk away. Your trip from here should be fairly safe, even considering the acres' twisted state. Before the cataclysm, it was impossible to traverse the woods without a fairy guide, and so nobody except the suicidally brave bothered to attempt it.

After the cataclysm, sections of the woods were changed. Now, one can reliably determine which part of the Acres they're in just by checking to see how violently the trees react to being hit with a sword.

Your trip will largely be through the Old Woods. A trail of sorts has been formed, where the Old Woods hasn't yet been overtaken by any of the other encroaching corruptive forces. The route will take you between the Ironwoods and the Fungiwoods, twin forces opposed to one another. With any luck, you'll avoid the notice of either force and only have to worry about the comparatively mundane inhabitants of the Old Woods.

For now, you've got some time to pack up, take inventory, breakfast, and otherwise get ready for the journey ahead. Time is on your side, though you would be loathe to get back to the Tumult by nightfall.

The Caravan Kokiri was currently standing up and gazing upon the Twisted-Acres. Yes, he knew that here all the dangerous things would be attracted to his 'allies', and not him. Boom would need to make sure he survived. For that was one of the few things that mattered in life. Like fire. Boom was fascinated and wondered how it would be if that shantytown succumbed to it.

Boom twitched a bit with spasms that rocked through his body, primarily in his back. He held onto the purple sack which he slung over his back quite tightly with his left hand. Quickly he turned his head from side to side, as his greasy hair swung with it. With a few twitching noises, he held out his right thumb and took a few nibbling bites upon it.

After the nervous biting, he brought his free-hand to lower the goggles which hung on his forehead back down. But he decided against it, but nontheless he smirked and licked at his maw.

Gazing upon the forest he knew what he'd need to do. "Lotsa of woodses. Yesssss." He swiveled his head back as he glanced upon his sack. "We know what we must do." He paused for a moment as he scratched at his left arm. "Burns it?" Boom gave a single nod, "Yes, we shall burns it, and watches the fire."

Boom gazed back upon the Caravan and the various members of it. All of which would prove their continued use to Boom, mostly being the meatshields to die while Boom lives. Though there was one thing that Boom was not too certain on.

In this Caravan there was one thing, that they kept with them. But Boom did not know for what purpose. For some reason they kept a Tower-Fungus Deku.

Boom skittered towards the area of the Caravan in which the creature was present. He leaned in his head as he spoke to the thing. "Boom speaks. Does thing speaks?"

Quickly he shot a dart back towards the forest. "Yesss..." He said with a joyful delight, knowing how well the forest would burn. He shot a dart back to the creature.

"Does thing speaks?"

Mycellium stared out from his cage at the approaching Kokiri. Prior to the approach of the boy-monster, he had been spreading spores all over the inside of his cage, and of the wagon. The horrible, shrivelled creature was making noises at him and throwing sharp metal bits every which way. It seemed like the gnarled and malnourished shell of a man was trying to ask a question. Mycellium didn't understand questions. However, he did understand that the tone of this Kokiri creature was not a friendly or kind one, but rather one of suspicion. The child-creature was analyzing him, and that would not do. Quickly, Mycellium started to play the melody from his snout. It had saved him before, and saved him again. The buzzing and horn-like noises that came forth were sickening, almost painful. He wasn't being quite loud enough for it to do any real painful damage, but it was enough to induce nausea. Or so Mycellium hoped. Enough to make this creature leave him be. He needed to get back to spreading. He had to make the cargo beautiful.

"Back away from the cage, small Kokiri!" No-Point boomed. After much internal deliberation, he had decided to join the caravan and accompany them to their destination. Why, you ask? He never told them outright, just that they would be glad they had him for times ahead.

The giant masked man strode up to where the Kokiri was trying to provoke the Deku, his hands holding the collar of his finely woven vest. Where he had obtained the vest, he would not tell. He could feel the nausea being induced by the melody, but physically he showed no effects. There were worse things than nausea in this world, after all.

"There was a mysterious fire in my shantytown, small Kokiri, before we departed. Am I wrong in assuming you are the cause?" He crouched down slightly to get a better look at the Kokiri pyromaniac, and leaned forward so that his face was almost directly above him. "It would be unwise to try that once more. For then, I will have no recourse but to break you."

Though the terrifying man loomed over the Kokiri and radiated extreme menace, not once did his tone deviate from being calm and aristocratic.

Boom's eyes tracked the tossed bits of metal by the Spore-Deku; The Kokiri after glancing at it, noticed the vast amount of infection that the creature brought to the Caravan's goods. "It brings thingses." Boom immediately turned his head to the left as he gave a nod to himself. "Yesss-" Boom crouched down as it scratched at its cheek with his free-hand. Pupils continued darting around the section where the Deku was. Boom continued to examine the conditions the creature was in. "Encaged-"

Then something happened while Boom was in thought. The eyes of the wretched creature that was Boom, widened in shock as Mycellium was producing a truly unnatural sound from its snout. The tone was a sickening, and eldritch piece. There was only one natural reaction to hearing something like this.

Boom opened its maws as it began shrieking. "KREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! IT SPEAKS ONLY PAAAAIN!" Boom used his free-hand as he clamped it down upon his ear, as he quickly skittered away from the cage.

Upon getting a little bit away, he leaned forward as he began gagging. "Urrr-AAAK!" Boom grumbled as he glanced towards the forest. "The woodses. We shall burns it." He switched his head as he glanced towards the right. "But what of the thing in the cage?" Boom glanced back towards the left, "It speaks only pain. We we'll usssssseeeeeeessssss it, to Boom's advantage."

Smirking, Boom licked at its maw as it nodded in agreement. "But first, we need to get through the woodses." With a quick turn of the head, he darted a glance back towards the Caravan. "They will do their thingses in the wooodses."

Boom increased his grip of his sack, as he glanced towards the right. "And then we burns it?" Boom again gave a nod, "We starts the fire, and burns it."

That being said he did not realize that the patron of the shanty-town followed the Caravan. And he just admitted his love of fire out-loud, and more to the point he planned on burning the woods. However he noticed that the warlord now had his face above his own.

Boom stared at the hulking creature with no points, as the creature's putrid eyes widened in terror. Slowly he opened his maw and spoke. "Heeeeeaaaa... Fireses- Man with no pointses!"

Rasia rode up on her own horse to the brute that was traveling with them for some reason. "I don't know why you joined us but presumably it wasn't to bully poeple weaker than you, I suggest you leave the Kokiri alone." she said rather untactfully. She didn't like the hulk of a man, he had never stated his intentions for joining them and she had suspected they were less than honorable. Rasia subconsiously checked her weapons under the cover of her robes, it was comforting to feel the familiar prescense of her weapons. "Come on then Boom, you know the carvan master doesn't like it when you're out of sight and we need to get going." she said and began to slowly trot towards the front of the caravan. The Kokiri was certainly a strange one but she was here to protect everyone not just the goods. Although why the Kokiri was traveling with them in the first place was another thing she had no idea about.

Pinching the Kokiri's ear, Dingle, daughter of the legendary hero Tingle, pulled him away from the cage.

"No tormenting the prisoner. And for goodness sake, someone put a blanket over this thing! It'll muffle the noise."

This mission into the Twisted Acres served more than one purpose for the hero's daughter. Yes, the Kokiri were going to be trading with them, which meant lovely lovely rupees, but this would also let her get an estimate of the damage to her Fountain. Her father had found it with cracked statues and a spring that was drying up. It had been many years since it was maintained, so it was going to be a chore to repair it. But it WAS her duty.

Mycellium watched as the pandemonium around him unfolded. Another big man-beast came over to the Kokiri to manhandle him, then a woman-beast came forth and began aggressively talking at the man-beast, then a girl-creature... A fairy? No, it couldn't be. The Fungus-Wood Scrub knew that there were no fairies left. The Fungus-Wood itself had taught him so. Whatever it was, it started yelling at the Kokiri again, then turned to him. Mycellium stopped making the noise from his snout. This one seemed more likely to harm him than the Kokiri did, and he did not want to provoke it.

Looking out from his cage, he saw where the caravan WAS for the first time: at the entrance of the woods. If the little fungus scrub could experience joy, he would be giddy with it. A chance that the fungus had been waiting for was finally being granted: To claim the Old Woods, the untainted sliver of it that lay between the Ironwood where the Fungi scrubs would fear to tread, if they felt fear, and the comforting home of the towering Fungus-Wood. Mycellium knew was his duty and privilege to taint it.

There were many actions Boom could take in its continued survival. One of these actions, that would be taken, would be continuing to make them underestimate Boom. Boom shot a glance towards Rasia, as he began sniffling.

"I-it wants to kills Boom!" the Kokiri cried out. "C-c-can you keeps it away from us?" He said as he produced more tears on command, as he was much practiced in the art of pleading. Hopefully if things went according to Boom's plan there would be a few results. One, the thing with no points would drop the subject of the Shantytown Fire. Two, the thing would be kept at bay by a meat-shield it knew would protect him. And three, it would serve as a general distraction from itself.

However, this plan could go awry. The little horrific gremlin creature was not sure how this plan would end up, but Boom would make sure to work the result into a manner most beneficial to him and his machinations.

And then he was grabbed by the ear by Dingle. Instinctively he performed a stronger grip on his bag.

"We just wantssss to know if it speaks or not." Boom glanced to the side, "It speaksssss only paaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiin." He glanced back to the side, "We wisssshes to know how long it will be in the woodsessss."

After all Boom needed to know how long of an opportunity he had within the woods to set it ablaze. If it was to be only a short journey, he would have to act quickly to prepare the fire. But if it was to be a longer venture in it, he could wait for the proper moment when the others would not prod at him as much.

"Calm, Gerudo!" the huge warlord boomed. "The Kokiri has tried to burn something of mine! I merely remind him that he will regret his decision!"

No-Point has an interesting way of 'reminding' people about things.

The big man paid the Gerudo no more heed. With the Gerudo and the daughter of Tingle attending to the bomb-addled Kokiri, No-Point wandered over to the cage where the strange deku resided. He crouched down next to it and began to speak. "Do not worry, small Deku," he said in a tone that would have been comforting if it wasn't coming from the juggernaut of a man with strange ears. "Now is not the time for fear. That comes later."

Boom knew he would not regret that mysterious fire in the Shantytown. Well, Boom did regret one thing about it; he regretted the fact he wasn't there to fully watch it burn. The flickering fires, it wanted to watch them spread and grow higher and higher. Boom glanced back at Dingle, "Yessssss we must heads into the woodsesss..."

And with that Boom proceeded to skitter to the woods, ready to burn and explode things for its own desires. Alongside testing its 'allies', as Boom needed to continue analyzing how they ticked.

Raisa shook her head at the strange Kokiri. She had heard they were childish creatures of the forest, but that creature was nothing short of strange and twisted. Regardless it seemed there was no more trouble here so she headed to the front of the caravan keeping an eye out for trouble.

Twisted Acres, Morning

11 Hours Until Sunset

The caravan proceeds relatively normally. The ground is fairly level, so the going is quick. The sounds of birds, squirrels, and wolves provides a pleasant backdrop that almost makes one think the cataclysm had never happened. A gentle breeze blows through the wind, as a gentle morning fog settles down. Your clothes are wet with condensation, and the caravan-oxen grunt with effort every time their plodding hooves get tangled in the mud.

10 Hours Until Sunset

The fog grows thicker. The sounds of forest critters has long ago stopped, and all that remains is the sound of your footsteps and the clanking of the oxen's harnesses.

You hear a rattling sound in the distance, growing ever louder as time goes by. Ghastly panflute music echoes across the trees like a shrill wind. The shadow of the canopy above flickers ever so gently. You blink.

Suddenly, you find yourself surrounded by small figures! Each of them is hardly larger than a teenage child, and each of them is wearing a crude rendition of a human skull on their faces. Skull Children. The revenant highwaymen of the Old Woods. The largest among them is directly ahead of you, and steps forward, his eyes gleaming. With a jerky movement, he points at your caravan and beckons towards himself. He strikes a large staff against a nearby tree trunk, in a clear demonstration of a challenge. Skull Kids never do anything without a fight.

Welcome to the first instance of combat in Risus! In this encounter, we'll go over the basics of team-based fighting. One of the players will have to step up as the Leader, who will do the fighting and defending. The other players can help the Leader out by rolling for attacks, and adding any 6's on their rolls to the Leader's score.

Boom began twitching as the fog came. "We can't sees as well." His left hand jittered along with his bag. He cocked his head to the side as he spoke, again. "Hhnnngh!" He grumbled out to himself.

Boom eyed the larger creatures with a nervous glance. These were bigger individuals, predators. The larger one smacked the tree with a large thump. Twitching his free fingers wildly he slammed his sack against the ground. "They won't leaves Boom's alone. Boom must make them leave."

His face contorted into an overly wide grin, as he licked frantically at his fanged teeth."Yessssssssss! Boom knows what Boom must do." This was a chance for him, to engage in some fun that he always enjoyed.

Exploding and burning things. Besides this, it would help establish among his 'allies' that he was a Kokiri that was willing to help them out. This would prove to be useful. And, as Boom noted, these predators seemed rather frantic for a fight. So he would be able to accomplish many things. First he would satisfy his lust for fire. Secondly by acting he would guarantee his survival against these predators. Thirdly, he would establish more credibility among the group. Fourthly, he would be able to see how the others took in the art of battle.

Boom delved into his bag as he frantically pulled out a single Bombchu, a rather worn looking one that had its color distorted into being a single grey looking object. Boom began laughing as he placed it on the ground and activated it.

With a simple push, he sent it towards the group of Skullkids.

"Three...Two...ONE!"

KABOOM!

Boom's attack is successful. Skull Teen takes 1 dice in damage. Skull Teen's current dice pool: 4

The assorted Skull Children scatter like rats as Bombchu shrapnel spreads out across the area. Clods of dirt and burning grass shower the caravan. As the smoke clears, it seems that almost all of the Skull Children have fled in terror from this show of force. Skull Kids love to fight, but they hate being hurt.

The Skull Children's leader is all that remains, having narrowly managed to avoid being obliterated. Bending its knee slightly, it seems their leader had landed improperly and sprained its ankle. A low weeping sound emanates from behind the leader's mask, as it shudders and shakes. The weeping begins to lower in pitch, until it is nothing more than a wet growl. The Skull Children's leader braces itself...

With a shrill howl, the leader leaps forward on its good leg, and swings his quarterstaff at Boom's head!

Boom paused for a moment as he was eagerly clapping, much like a rambunctious child. The eyes of the Kokiri lit up as he watched the shrapnel of his explosive device scattered about. The magnificent sound, the loud nature of it was rather appealing to Boom. He stood there fairly entranced as he watched the majority of the Skull Children run away in fear.

"Yesssssssss, fears Boom. Fears us." Boom noted as he kept a mischievous grin on his face. "Watch out!" Boom said to himself as he swiveled his head. He glanced at the Skull Child leader as he had injured itself, and began moaning out in agony.

Boom began laughing as he watched the leader lunge at him with a quarterstaff. Boom, thinking quickly reached once more into his bag and pulled out a Bombchu. "GWAYAHAHA!" Boom cackled out as he threw a Bombchu at the staff as he hopped a few paces back, taking his sack with him.

It was a weaker model of Bombchu, but nonetheless it exploded off in the face of the Skullkid Leader. This immediate distraction, what with an explosion occurring in the face, caused the Skullkid Leader to stumble about in a dazed confusion as he half-heartedly swung his greatstaff, and missing the escaping Boom.

The Kokiri grinned at his foe as he began laughing again. "Boom no likes predators who go after Boom." Once more he pulled out a Bombchu from his bag.

With another smirk, he quickly chucked the Bombchu towards the injured leg of the Skullkid Leader.

Dingle's father was a talented cook and chemist. Talented, but not bright- he used the same pot to make paralyzing agents and his famous Deku Dip. One of his most useful creations was now being thrown at the skull kid to accompany the bombchu- a Tingle Bomb. Though it wasn't quite a bombchu, it packed enough of a punch to blow holes in the walls of temples and caverns.

"DINGLE DOES NOT FEAR YOU, PUNY SKULL-CHILD! SHE AND HER FRIENDS WILL WIN THIS DAY!"

KABOOM! KABOOM!
Boom's roll plus the singular 6 from Dingle's roll beats Skull Teen's roll. Current dice pool: 3

A pair of explosions rocks the Skull Children's leader, shattering his wounded leg and opening several wounds in his chest. Oddly, he doesn't seem to be bleeding, despite the damage he has suffered. A choking rasp gurgles forth from his mask, as the leader leans heavily on its quarterstaff.

With another shrill howl, the leader vaults forward at Boom, desperately attempting to crush him.

Mycellium looked on as the combat continued. The strange not-fairy and awful kokiri beast were fighting... Skull Children. Again, the Fungus Scrub would have felt an emotion if it could feel: Rage. These disturbed highwaymen were responsible for the fall of many acres of Fungus-Wood trees, and their existence was one of the many deterrents to it's spread. The very idea that this journey could be cut short by these fiendish, spindly freaks was enough to push Mycellium into action. With a loud "WOMP WA WOMP WA" he pushed against his cage, letting loose a spray of spores onto the one Skull Child foolish enough to stay.

"You attack a creature that can eradicate you!" came the booming voice from off to the side.

Intercept! From outta nowhere emerged No-Point the juggernaut, aiming to catch the leader of the skull kids in a grapple. With a mighty bellow, he launched himself at the kid, arms outstretched and reaching for its neck.

"Admirable, but mistaken!"

Will he complete the intercept? Find out after this dice roll!
