[OOC] "Broken Souls" - Zombie Survival (Closed)

Now within the 21st century, everything was growing faster then it had ever did with previous generations. People lived out their lives through their daily routines like waking up and preparing themselves for work just to make a living to support themselves or their family and loved ones. Then, then that all changed quickly, spiraling humanity off the track of a prospering future. It started off in the high populated country of over one billion, China, starting off as a small flu or disease infecting the first few hundred people.

Expert medical examiners and neuroscientists were brought in to study and find a solution to cure those that were infected, but it was found to be incurable. They found the the infection slowly spreads throughout the host's nervous system, then next within forty-eight hours it eventually infects the host entirely shutting down their entire body system. The host died several minutes later, the first infected all eventually died They were transported to a large freezing warehouse unit for last minute study and to keep the bodies preserved for future experiments that was built under China's capital Beijing. As they conducted the last of their research, hoping to find some a hidden answer within the infection, one examiner was undeniably surprised by a body of a dead young boy twitching, then slowly rise back up as if he were still alive. The examiner was conducting the final physical traits of what it did to the human body at the time, which consisted of greyish pale skin, eyes blood red, mouth gums turned black and signs of slow flesh decay, but this was something out of a science fiction. Soon the other bodies around him began to twitch and slowly move about as well. The dead now all were standing and they all had their sights set on the man in the middle of them. The young boy moved first looked up at the person in the grey hazmat suit and saw only one thing, flesh. . .

They had manged to get out and into the city, the panic of people who foolishly didn't seal the exits that lead out into the subway tunnels. The dead felt no pain when shot by the rapid fire of bullets into their bodies. The only known weakness was by destroying the brain, but their initial overwhelming numbers wasn't enough to stop them from overrunning the underground warehouse unit. They mauled and ripped open everything, feasting on all living things. The person that they once had been is no longer themselves. As the ones who were not part of the first infected became to come back to life themselves. Their bodies mutilated, bones broken, blood dripping they turn into a mindless drones of flesh eating monsters, nothing was safe from their grasp, not even the young. . .

It then spread rapidly like wildfire from country to country. Despite the best efforts of heavy bombing and blocking borders they found a way in, mainly due to the mistakes of those who didn't take it seriously, and now they've either become one of them or are now nothing but a rotten corpse. The dead are not the only enemy, the world has been declared into Marshall-Law and now we are a danger to ourselves as well. This world is no a living nightmare.

Setting: New York is a huge city, that is now desolated after fires went down, but the dead still roams, be aware of raiders and raider parties.

Player: Only one character. with the exception of a companion like a dog, but not everyone should have a companion, don't want to run low on vital resources if everyone is feeding multiple mouths. (Don't want to go over board with this one, possibly in other future rps)

Combat Rules: Turned based-style, (Only Style I Could Think Of And Is Most Commonly Used), Fair action. Injures during combat will affect you during and after combat, but it depends on the type of injury you sustain. (Example - A large gash in your arm caused by a blade doesn't heal over night, with the exception of a type of surreal training or can't feel pain due to the effects of drugs recently taken etc, etc. . . So being careful is the key to it all)

Days Since Outbreak: 246 Days

Bite Treatment: Yes the method of amputation is allowed, but there is no guarantee that you will survive.
This means if not properly prepared to treat it, you will bleed out to death.

Your Friendlies And Your Enemies

"The Dead" - Enemy

They are mindless flesh eating people and will not hesitate to rip open into you and eat you to death while you scream your head off. . . unless they go for your face as well. Do not underestimate them, they may be walking corpses, but the still can force you between a rock and a hard place if you foolishly take them for granted.

Visible Traits of Dead: Pale grayish skin, Blood red eyes, Mouth gums have turned black, decaying flesh and or walking with body completely mutilated.

If you are bitten and manage to escape from being eaten alive, you only have 48 hours of life left to live as the infection slowly spreads throughout your body, there is no cure.

Day - The dead are less active, but are still dangerous.
Night - Dead are highly active as well as move in large groups.

During this time a very rare type of "Sprinter" zombie comes out of the shadows during night looks exactly like the next dead person, except it runs and can take you down like a linebacker, try to take it out quickly otherwise, you'll literally need to run for your life.

"Raiders" - Enemy

Raiders are a faction of people who have now gone insane and have a wanting urge to kill, murder and have "Fun" with their chosen victims. Raiders will kill anyone just for the fun "sport" of it, or they will take time in taking you alive and torturing you until your nothing to them but a obeying plaything. If your spotted by a raider, do not hesitate to shoot back if fired upon, if spotted by a group of raiders, and your alone. . . run like hell or be prepared for one hell of a fight.

Raider Information: A crude fixation of armor from various parts like street signs, car wheels, wielder helmets as well as finished with there signature pieces of metal spikes on different parts of their armor. On a minor note, they do tend to carry and strap pieces of human parts like hands, heads, and feet on themselves as well.

Methods of Killing: Anything that can be used for an enjoyment of pained wails and screams, with addition of a set of metal spikes attached to it.

"US Military Remnants - Frenemies"
The US Military, they were setup with one mission only, to contain the contaminated and eliminate the threat, but it didn't fall through to the end. The troops who were assigned from Fort Drum, to go inside to keep stability and order within the hugely populated city and assess the threat level of the contamination, were hit and they were hit hard. At first they kept the steady plan in check, which was to: Arrive to a reported "High Threat" location, eliminate threat and/or any "Leaks", Return to inner city outpost "High-Tower" with report. It went on for at least about two weeks, until the civilians found out what was really happening within the city, instead of the hope crushing lie of them being told they would be evacuated by groups since there was over a 8 million people who wanted the same thing as the next, the comfort of safety.

Everything fell from that point, threat containment system they had established was thrown out disarray, people started fighting with the military themselves, then as soldiers and civilians fought, the number of walking dead grew. After Marshall-Law was officially declared, The remaining forces of the military had either split up, some still continuing onnward with the mission given to them, some who sought to find leave the city and regroup with want remained of the military in Washington D.C., the rest sought out for them selves or wanted to help those who actually needed help.

Military Information: Standard military issued uniform and combat gear, one military grade M20 75mm Rifle, standard issue combat knife, Three high-end explosive grenades, Two hand smoke grenades and a M11-A1 9mm pistol. They aren't all bad, if you do ever come across a few military personal, check that they are the ones who actually want to help and not the ones who are finishing what they were assigned to do.

Methods of Killing: Formation kills, tactical and recon usage is their main forte of killing methods, they are trained soldiers, not something to be taken lightly.

Zones

New York, It is undeniably a huge city, so unless you lived there your entire live, or frequently visited the place, your gonna need to either find a map or have a keen memory of the place.


"War Zones"
War zones are the areas with activity still bustling with any and everything, signs of dead corpses, or the savagery signs of raiders show that you are in the middle of the war zone.


"Abandoned Areas
Abandoned Zones are zones that are mainly ripe for the picking, but are completely infested with the dead and mainly were the variants of "Sprinters." tend to make as their haven. It's usually best to keep noise to a minimum as well, other wise you'll have a handful of them come running to investigate where the noise came from.


"Safe Zones"
Safe zones have been established throughout the city and this is the first place throngs of people fled to when the outbreak started after the nearly all but one of the bridges were blown apart and subways were either flooded with water or the dead. As more and more people came, food and supplies within the safe zones began to dwindle down. Now the majority of safe that had been established within the city have been either taken over by the dead due to people dieing of starvation of hunger. The other former safe zones have now also become occupied by raiders as their own place to have, but not with out redecorating the place first with mutilated bodies hanging from meat hooks, blood splattered against the walls, and cage pens for their entertainment purposes.

The remaining safe zones that now stand are occupied by the remaining military and any other civilians that are still alive, but they don't get to stay for free. Everyone has to pull their weight, because now. . . now it's a kill or be killed world.

James was always the laid-back optimistic type, not often voicing his opinions unless asked and only offering reassuring ones when he did. Whether this survived the outbreak however remains to be seen. He is quite confident and not easily offended, although he will not hesitate to take action if someone is intimidating him or if he sees something he really doesn't agree with.

【Background】
James was born in Derby (UK) as the only child of publicans James (senior) and Francesca Morgan. Through his teens he was endued with the promise that he would work in the family pub, The King’s Sword, and eventually inherit it when he was older. Living above the pub he became used to the life and atmosphere surrounding it, and some of his happiest memories were of him and his father doing work on the place (they were very much DIY orientated). After high school James, despite intending to work in the pub, went to college where he studied History, Sociology, Creative Writing and Security. He had always had a great interest in ancient history and loved to read about ancient Rome and write alternative fiction in his spare time. Sociology he took because he heard it was easy, but actually found he quite liked it. And he took Security because he thought it might be handy given his bar work; he actually went on to get his security license and is therefore a security guard for the pub as well (if nothing else it makes the place look more professional and lowers their insurance).

Whilst in college James fell in love with a girl named Carly. After hearing she was into boxing James took the sport up himself to get her attention, and it worked. He never really took part in competitions, but he kept up the practice because he knew Carly found it attractive. About five months ago (after four years of going out) James proposed to Carly and she moved in with him above the pub. At that point James’ parents had moved out into a nicer house on the edge of Derby. When the outbreak occurred James and Carly were vacationing in New York, and he was quickly separated from her.

For the first few months he was part of a small group that survived in a small apartment building. However these small groups never seem to last, and it only took one night watch to fall asleep for the whole group to be torn apart. James was pretty sure he wasn't the sole survivor but he never saw any of the others again. Since then he's been mostly on the move, never really staying in one place for more than a few days. The only survivors that he ever comes across tend to be raiders and the like, and so he tends to be cautious about meeting new folk.

James makes a good bartender and can mix a small variety of drinks. He is fairly at DIY, especially where woodwork is concerned. He also knows how to ride a motorbike. None of these are really unique abilities, but he hasn’t much else to bring to the table.

James is a fairly decent boxer, and because of his security training he knows some self-defence techniques (including restraints). In the months since the outbreak he has become fairly adept at using his machete and shield, and so prefers to fight in close confined quarters.

He hasn’t bothered to keep hold of any guns yet because he doesn’t really know how to use one (outside of video games) and knows that gunfire is likely to attract unwanted attention.

Background: Petra was born in the most eastern point of Czechoslovakia, in 1983. When the Berlin wall was knocked down and the USSR dissolved, her family moved to America. Being new immigrants that spoke little English, they did not have the most luxurious life. Up until the time that Petra moved out, she and her family lived in a crummy apartment with cracks in the wall and flickering lights. When Petra was still in high school, her brother had graduated. Not having the money for college, he got involved in a gang. By the time Petra had graduated, her brother had gotten her involved with it as well and they were working together. However, some years later, during a deal gone bad, Petra's brother was killed. This prompted her to give up the lifestyle and lead a straight life. She used the money she had made to move to a different part of the city and finally enroll in college at the age of 26. Since graduation, she had been working as a cook and living alone in her apartment. This is the life she had during the outbreak.

Personality: Being from Eastern Europe, Petra is naturally on the colder side. Smiles are a rare commodity and laughs are even rarer. She speaks only when she feels it's necessary and has little patience for nonsense. Her temper is somewhere in the middle; she knows not to snap over petty things but will not let others walk all over her and will not tolerate people wasting her time. She is rough around the edges and will not lie for your benefit. She will call things as she sees them. She is usually independant and will not ask for help unless she truly needs it. Another thing she takes from growing up in the Soviet Union is her communistic views. These will be prominent when in a group setting.
Unique Abilities: trilingual (Czech, German, and English), cooking skills, street experience, and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of Combat: while Petra was involved in street life, she did little fighting herself. That was up to the men and she was smart enough to avoid such confrontations. She has basic knowledge of guns as her gang dealt them and she knows how to properly wield blunt trama weapons. Despite this knowledge, she is not extremely experienced with it, but can hold her own at least for a little while.

Equipment: backpack containing: bag of crackers, canteen of water, three cans of soup, some medical supplies, a dead phone, wallet, and a change of clothes.
Conditions: her English isn't exactly up to par and despite being in the country for twenty eight years, she still mixes her words up sometimes. This is mostly due to the fact that her family is still spoke Czech at home and she would only have to use her English when outside of her house. Can also be a little hard to understand.

Background:

Basically Hunter was one of those people that was having trouble going anywhere in life, He worked a part time job in a grocery store and made minimum wage. He spent most his time at home in his apartment either playing games or planning stupid things to do. He studied electrical engineering in high school and in collage before he dropped out, he never did anything with this knowledge other then rip off his next door neighbors electricity bill. He would borrow a friends gun every once and a while and go to a range in his neighborhood but he was limited on this because he lacked money to keep buying ammo, and to convince his friend it was a good idea to keep letting him use his gun.

Hunter was at work when things started to get bad, his manager got the idea how bad it was and grabbed what food he could an ran for it. Hunter soon followed his lead and loaded up his pickup with as much food and drinks as he could. He made it back to his apartment where things were still in decent condition, it wasn't super bad in his area yet so he had time to get his supplies to his apartment.

Overtime he has gathered small amounts of supplies from other apartments. Anything from weapons to food to medical, though for a cheap apartment building finding much was kinda hard.

Body Type: About average build, not strong but not weak. Fairly fit though considering all the gaming.

Hair: He has short dark brown hair that has been cut by himself poorly each time, it's uneven and at times even singed from failed electrical experiments.

Personality: Hunter is laid back for the most part. He's normally in a good mood and tends to look at the best of a bad situation, Unless it gets really bad then he starts to freak out over the little things. He tends to be a smart ass at times making jokes out of bad situations or just stupid jokes at wrong times.

Unique Abilities: Hunter is able to follow most electrical plans and even build electrical circuits from scratch, given the parts he could build a hand crank electrical generator or a motor. Also really poor lock picking skills.

Knowledge of Combat: He is familiar with a gun and he can use a ax or a hammer if need be in a bad situation.

Weapons: (Not all will be carried at once) 12 Gauge Shotgun, .38 Personal defense revolver, Fire ax, Claw hammer.

Background:Anthony Henderson wasn't the smartest kid in his class, so he knew that when he graduated high school that it would be difficult to create a future for himself. The first time Anthony seriously considered the marines was when his older cousin returned home from duty and suggested it to him. Anthony joined after graduation and never looked back. During training, he was chosen to join the United States Marine Corps Force Reconnaissance. He served three five year tours, before sustaining a head injury that ruined the sight in his left eye. Though his eye was saved, he no longer was qualified for force recon and was honorably discharged from service. Two years before the outbreak, Tony had managed to obtain a job at his brother's construction company. When the outbreak happened, he was the only one who prepared for the worst. He spent most of the first part of the outbreak shadowing the military and scavenging. Witnessed the military gun down a group of civilians that were being lead by a handful of NYPD. During the chaos he grabbed what he could and ran. Since that day he has been hostile to all military remnants.

Background: Even before the outbreak, Bobby was a victim of others. Being shy, timid, and a frail build, he was the target of bullying throughout his school years. This led to him growing a greater disposition for books and his own company, or the company of his loving father, Stanley. Bobby's mother died when he was very young, and he only has the faintest recollection of her. Stan, on the other hand, was very close to Bobby, and helped him foster his love for knowledge. Bobby was quite particular to books on archaeology, and had grand fantasies of becoming an explorer of artifacts just like Indiana Jones. Ever since he witnessed the infamous "sword vs. pistol" scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark, Bobby begged his father to get him a pistol just like Indy. Coming to a compromise, Stan gave him a slingshot and, being quite skilled with one in his own youth, taught his son how to use it. This led to an incident at Bobby's school, in which one of his bully's was sent to an ER. Bobby was temporarily expelled as a result, much to his father's dismay; but it sure did a good job of stopping the bullying.
Then, the outbreak happened less than a year later. Stan, working in a busy hospital as a nurse, was one of the first to go; and Bobby had the misfortune of witnessing the transition. Stan caught on quick, and knew first-hand just as the rest of the city was catching on... but it was too late on to get his son to safety, himself. He urged his son to leave him behind, and compelled him to use the sewers as a possible method to hide. Bobby was reluctant, of course... until all hell broke loose, as the city fell into chaos along with his father shortly after. Bobby left Stan without much of a good chance for goodbyes, and took on his father's desperate advice to use the sewers. It was surprisingly effective; to not get eaten at first, anyway. He could still hear the chaos unfold above, the sounds of people screaming and being eaten alive.
Being on his own, he didn't have much as far as answers or comfort. The sewers have since proven to be a safe haven from most of the zombie population, at the least; but it has done little to prepare him for the outside world. After a recent incident at discovering his "home" in the sewers was ransacked, Bobby made an awful realization; the Raiders were learning about the safety of the sewers in greater numbers. Running out of places to hide, Bobby has recently been forced in more and more situations to attempt to survive above... and its been proving increasingly taxing for the unenlightened boy.
Personality: As already mentioned, Bobby is shy and timid by nature; add to being in isolation since the beginning of the outbreak, and his social abilities are... inadequate, to say the least. However, he is far from dumb, and learns the traits of others quickly. As such, he will be more comfortable revealing less (or lies) about himself as opposed to more. The world with which he has grown up in has logically made him accustomed to pessimism and distrust, where he looks out for himself first and foremost, if only for survival's sake. He is still a child, however; he has not forgotten how to laugh, or cry.

Unique Abilities: Having spent most of the pandemic living in the sewers, Bobby has a great handle of NY's sewer system, and his eyesight has developed quite well in conditions without light. On the negative side of things, the lack of sunlight has also made his eyes very sensitive to the sun. Considering this trait, Bobby is great as a night spotter, as a guide in dark places (most especially the sewers), and (as further described in his "knowledge of combat"), very useful as an unorthodox "sniper." In addition, his small size and height allows him to squeeze through and/or hide slightly more easily in small spaces than others, and/or to sneak and make less noise slightly more effectively (though he's no ninja, and trained ears will find him without much difficulty). As a side, he will also eat next to anything that's edible, having grown a knowledge of what is edible and what is not, learning out of necessity to eat essentially sludge and/or whatever rotten scraps he happens to stumble upon to survive (aka having a complete lack of cooking skills).
Knowledge of Combat: Bobby is an excellent shot with his father's slingshot, and it has saved his life from zombies on more than one occasion. He's a very good shot with it at long distances, practicing extensively on the dull moments of down-time he has in a day. This makes Bobby much more dangerous than his frail frame makes him seem at first glance, and has resulted in the deaths of two foolish Raiders (reluctantly, and still mentally scarring, on Bobby's end). Despite this, Bobby's preference for his slingshot has led to a lack of development and experience in guns or close-proximity weapons; if ever caught in such a situation, he would be sure to be dead without the quick help of others. Knowing this full well, he has lived his life avoiding it at all costs, and has been relatively successful (until recently).
Weapons/Equipment: 1. His father's slingshot. It is one of the professional, metallic kinds, and being a quality instrument, it's still in very durable condition. It is capable of shooting all sorts of miscellaneous objects laying about (as big as a soda can, as small as a tiny pebble). 2. A large pouch holding rocks and scraps of "food", and a smaller pouch of "bang snaps", those novelty fireworks that you throw on the ground to make a small, bright "POP!". Using his slingshot, these in particular prove incredibly useful for directing/distracting small to medium groups of zombies. 3. A combat knife he's found on the streets near the beginning of the outbreak, which has since become rusty and near-dull. Marginally useful for cutting through weak materials, or his own hair. Not very useful in CQC, even if Bobby knew how to use it for such. 4. An old, dirty wine bag for water. 5. Very large shades that he has also found near the beginning of the outbreak, used when the sun is particularly bright (and look rather comical on his small face).
Conditions: Bobby's skin was always pretty pale to begin with. Add to the matter that he hasn't been seeing much sunlight, he almost resembles a zombie from a distance. Also, while knowing quite a bit about the sewers, he knows very little in terms of the outside world since the outbreak.
