Okay, um... one of the issues I have is how she got the grenades. On top of that, did she know magic before or not? You talk about the grimoire and that's it. ^^;

Also I'm honestly not seeing how she ended up with Toshiko. ^^;

I've almost got a character, just having trouble thinking of specific abilities. I'm going with a Mage with affinity for darkness. I'm going with that it's a strong magic, but it physically harms my character if he uses it too much or if he loses control of it. I just need to think of some related magic he might have and a more full backstory. So far I've got he was an outcast in his original home in North America because darkness has a negative stigma, then he goes to Japan, finds out about the detective agency, and joins to prove to others (and partly himself) that he's not inherently evil just because of his magic. Would that be s good enough backstory if I wrote it out in full sentences?

Um, well...

There's no reason at all why darkness as an affinity would hurt the mage with it or really have any negative stigma at all. ^^; Affinities are literally just what you're best at. Darkness as an affinity would be things like... well, shadows, the absence of light. You'd be good at spells involving that kind of thing. To be hurt by your magic you'd have to actually learn spells that would do that, for whatever reason.

I don't even think Darkness would be that uncommon as an affinity. It's certainly not a rarity like Ether or a totally unique affinity like Death or Mana.

Hm, alright. I thought it was a neat idea but you're the GM, I shall amend my character and will edit it in to this post shortly ^^'

Name: Ryo Hashimoto
Age: 23
Appearance:

Personality: Ryo is an optimist through and through. No matter how bad things get he will always try to find a bright side and keep his spirits up. He is a happy guy most of the time, but should he get truly angry everyone should beware. Ryo doesn't like to get angry, because he knows he gets very violent when he does.

Abilities: Ryo is a Mage with an affinity for Darkness. He can control shadows, take light away from areas and other similar things. He has also learned to travel through shadows which would be outside his affinity, but limiting the travel to shadows only simplifies things.

Weapons/Equipment: Just his phone, his wits, and his fists.

Brief Backstory: Ryo grew up having a fairly ordinary life. He and his family were Magi but because of the secrecy of the magical community Ryo felt as though he was never living up to his full potential. Ryo grew up learning magic and about famous mages from the past, but he could never use any of it outside of his house, he felt like he was meant to use his magic for something more. For most of his life Ryo has taken some form of martial arts, he's never needed to use it but he would be pretty good in a fight if the need arose. After high school he went to school to become a teacher, thinking that's what he could do to help the world. Shortly after finishing his schooling he learned about the Fu Sonzai no Gensō detective agency, and he knew he wanted to join. To finally do something with his magic to help others.

Okay...

One of my issues is that I'm going to have three characters from other countries(one hasn't been posted yet) already. Each of them is fairly well-justified, and they need to be as Fu Sonzai isn't exactly well-known across the world or anything.

Since it's not a huge organization, it being packed with people of different nationalities feels a bit weird, and therefore I'd like to keep further characters aside from those three as Japanese members of the setting's supernatural community.

@duskshine749: Okay, he... honestly should get a name that's not literally "Wind Darkness" ^^;. Also you should probably explain the swords... also, as a magi with an affinity for darkness he wouldn't need grenades to make an area dark. That's probably a fairly elementary spell for the darkness affinity. Also, magic is pretty strictly secret, so there's more reasons not to practice magic where non-supernatural people can see beyond not living in the right neighborhood. ^^;

... Also this is kind of a weird, complicated thing, but any transit spells are actually air-related. Which is fine as magi can learn outside of their affinity, and teleporting from shadow to shadow could be a method of simplifying the spell in question.

@Satsuki: We'll see, I have someone planning to sign up and I'm accepting two more characters at most.
