Well the way I see it, he can talk to machines right? So out in the world it be something like "Hey Bank of America ATM, how's it going? The wife and kid doing good? I was wondering if I could borrow a few bucks if that's ok?"
In the prison it would be some thing primitive and simple like, "you lock. Me prisoner. Me want you open."
In the real world he can make machines do whatever by talking to them and persuading them as if they actually had emotions and opinions and lives, but in prison he can't appeal to them that way which makes it much harder for them to cooperate.
