The Marshall was the officer in charge of the Shatterdome in the film, and took on overall command only because the other facilities had all been shut down.

If we're looking at a renewed Kaiju invasion and the world's military have given up on trying to construct giant walls everywhere in favour of developing new Jagaers instead then it's feasible that there's now more than one Shatterdome with facilities based all round the Pacific, as well as R&D facilities and a centralised command centre. If Hansen's now in overall joint command then he'd be at the central hub co-ordinating the global efforts.

That or he got himself killed.

Perhaps there is a Super Jaeger that requires 10 experienced pilots, it's invisible and can wipe out a city in one swipe of it's arm

i think its fitting that the three ladies get the 3 single pilots. I actually didn't realize that was the case until after I assigned them. I did my best to put the characters where i think they would work well.
