Soulmate roleplay?

Setting: Medieval times. In a fantasy village set deep within a forest. This village is well known for its diverse community and world famous flower, the Ascythenia, which grows only there.

Plot: Your character has come to live (or has lived there all their lives) in the village of Vale. It is here that they learn of a legend deeply rooted in the forests history- a legend of thread and flowers. In short the legend states that when the Ascythenia flower blooms on the house or at the door or by the bed of one individual- that an identical one will also bloom by their soulmate. It is also stated that an invisible thread will connect their hearts- pulling taut when they are near each other and thus clearly informing the soulmate that theirs is near. Now, wether your character believes this or not, they find that a flower has bloomed at their home- and they soon learn that an identical one has bloomed by the person they least expected! Will your character follow fate or refuse to believe such an old tale?
Sub plot: Possible adventure/ monster fighting plot in the future. Still under consideration.

Parent Bios

The Mayor: He is a cheerful and rotund fellow who is loved by all the villagefolk. He has been Mayor for 23 years and no one sees an end to his governing. He comes from a long-line of warriors that founded Vale- but he turned in his shield when his daughter was born. Now he lives with his family near the center of town by the town hall- in a plush house framed by gardens of sunflowers. He is good friends with the Blacksmith, Doctor, and Ranger.

The Doctor: Quite the grumpy fellow- he is the oldest of the parents- with snowy white hair and bushy gray eyebrows. He takes pride in his work and, quite honestly, is the best at what he does in all of the south. He moved to Vale when his daughter was young- from a city farther north called Gardenia. His family is rumored to have royal linege- but the Doctor refuses to acknowledge these rumors- he prefers to live simply and humbly. He lives with his daughter near the school, just above the clinic that they run together. He is friends with the Mayor, the Bard, and the Ranger.

The Thief: A city rat exiled to Vale lest she get her hands cut off if she were caught by the law. The Thief is not ashamed of who she is- she steals to provide for her family and because it is all she knows. Unlike the other parents the Thief came from impoverished beginnings- she learned to do whatever it took to survive. She learned to cut purses and charm coats before she could read. The village folk do not know much about her- but it is rumored that she was once part of a group of assassins. The Thief is not poor in Vale- she lives off of a wealth she acquired on her last heist before being exiled. She lives on the outskirts of town. She is good friends with the Ranger and the Bard.

The Ranger: The Ranger is a master hunter- his job is a mixture of bountyhunter and botanist. His knowledge of the forest is supreme in Vale and he uses it to aid others. He often patrols the village boarders- making sure to take care of any beasts that stray too near and to keep an eye out for any other dangers. He assissts the Doctor in acquiring the proper herbs for medicine. He also takes it upon himself to hunt game for those in need of it (mainly the poorer families and the elderly). His home lies near the southern entrance- although he barely stays there for long. He has a pet wolfdog that is with him at all times. The Ranger is good friends with the Mayor, the Doctor, and the Thief.

The Bard: Like all traveling Bards she knows stories and songs about all parts of the world that the characters live in. Her enchanting voice soothes and inspires- and many of the villagefolk enjoy to listen to her sing at the tavern she runs. She is lively and charismatic- a true charmer. The Bard lives in the tavern (located on the east end of town) with her son, which they both run together. The Bard is good friends with the Thief, the Doctor, and the Blacksmith.

The Blacksmith: Most if not all of Vales weapons are forged at the Blacksmiths home. Her weapons are fine and dependable- made with a skill that is almost dwarven with its care. She is a loud and proud individual- who could out drink any man and probably beat them in any fight. She may be rough and rowdy- but there is nothing more important to her than her son- whom she often gets emotional over. They live in the northern part of town and their forge is frequented by rangers and Academymen. The Blacksmith is good friends with the Bard and the Mayor.

4. OOC fights are not tolerated. This also goes for disrespect toward your fellow roleplayers. I will kick you out.
5. Swearing is ok- just don't be excessive.
6. Have fun, thats the whole reason why we're here.
7. If you're going to be gone, tell us. I'll gladly recap after your absence. (Make sure your character is disengaged from the others so the roleplay can run more smoothly).
8. I will be playing all NPCs and the World.
9. I reserve the right to pick the pairings based off of the characters personalities once the spots are filled.

It might be better if you give people more autonomy with their characters. They can probably figure the pairings out themselves since that'd be a huge point of the roleplay.

Personally, I'm kinda interested, but I wanna see what starts to come of this first.

Hmm. I see what you're saying. It takes away from the organics of it. But a major plot point is having your character paired with someone they did not expect to be paired with. If your characters chose then it would be going against that factor.

In all honesty you can have your character refuse to go along with the idea that a flower decides who they will be with. But i'm not changing that plot point, sorry.

Name Varric Dawnleaf/Age 18/Gender Trans Boy

Personality:

Varric is a bit of a mixed bag. He's certainly polite and treats people well, but, the thing is, he is a bit of an ass as well. If there's one thing he cares about, it's entertainment. And his mom, but more importantly, entertainment. He gets bored easily. So, he likes to stir some trouble on occasion. Maybe kick some valuable and watch as people go ballistic, just to return it later. Maybe punch a girl's but and make it seem like the guy next to him did it. He also tends to boast, about his deeds, and more than once has had to do some form of restitution.

One thing in his favor is that, for all his false boasting and whatnot, Varric is ballsy. He doesn't seem to know what fear is. He once heard od dangerous bandits in the woods, and actively sought them out. After getting inevitably captured, he convinced them that he was the Mayor's daughter, and that if they sent word that they had him, then the Mayor would pay them. Since the mayor, and his actual daughter for that matter, we're kind of BADASS, this ended poorly for the bandits. Especially when bardmom got involved.

As one may have noticed, Varric is a bit impulsive too. He tends to give exactly zero fucks about the consequences, until he has to face them. He sometimes does genuinely mean things, and only later realizes that, no, pinching that girl's butt and blaming someone else is NOT a harmless prank, but rather a very mean thing to do for both parties.

He also loves to charm the ladies and gents. He can often be seen flirting with many dames and dudes, serenading and playing for them. That's the kind of guy he is. He is utterly shameless.

There is another side to him, more sensitive. This only ever seems to come out when he is among nature, or making music. He loves to sing, and he loves to play the lute. He's good at it too, and knows it.

Varric at his best is a charismatic leader with a rebellious streak and very interesting to have around. On a bad day, he is an unapologetic asshole who causes trouble and pisses people off.

Bio

Marion Dawnleaf lived a rather eventful life before she settled.

Varric's mother, Marion, is actually quite the famous adventurer, and a lot of her stories are not so much legends as personal anecdotes. She has braved dark dungeons, slain a dragon, seduced a minor nature god, and, her proudest accomplishment, given birth to a beautiful boy.

Mind you, she kept adventuring for a little while after "settling down" and getting the tavern. And like hell she would trust a babysitter with her child! Had to teach him the family business!

Varric had a pretty awesome childhood, all told.

Varric showed a talent for magic from an early age, and seemed to know it more intuitively than by learning. During his free time, he was quite the wildchild, going about in nature and causing trouble. The guard know him by name.

Varric actually had quite the ideal life. His single mother raised him well enough, even if he is a bit of an ass. He has never wanted for anything, and was always provided for. Hell, even when he realized he was, well, a he, that was pretty simple. His mom didn't give a shit, and at that point everyone accepted Varric was a bit weird.

Varric wants to do as his mom did, however, and start adventuring. She forbids it, due to the obvious danger involved, but he has found his own small scale adventures. The largest of which was him getting captured by bandits.

He was lucky his mom had retained her adventuring skills, or else he could have died. Afterwards, she was livid with him.

Varric was just finalizing his plans to skip town and find an adventuring group, when he found a flower in his bed...

Weapon: Varric's Lute: Varric wields a modified wizard's..."staff". His mother had it specially crafted for him. The Lute enhances Varric's magic through him playing it, and is very durable. It also has a basic spell enchanted into it to allow Varric to turn sound into concussive force. It uses his own magical energy, and only disables a foe for a short time, a few seconds, but it is a very good way to get out of trouble.
Skills:
Charisma: Once you let Varric open his mouth, you have lost. Varric can talk his way out of anything, a trait he gets from his mother.
Leafsong: Varric can use magic through music. His magic is more of a muscle than a skill, and the ways he's exercised it show. He is mostly good at ilusions and mobility, and as a combat mage he is nigh on useless. He can move around swiftly using the wind, and render himself almost invisible using a cloak of the wind. He can also cause leaves and petals to fly about himself for dramatic effect.
Sneaky:Varric is one sneaky bastard, and is a master of hiding in plain sight. Despite his reputation, he still manages to be able to hide in a crowd.
Nature Empath: Varric is a natural at traveling in nature. It's like nature itself tries to provide for him.
Lockpicking: Varric took up this skill in order to be better at pranks.

Other: Magic Vulnerability: As the very obvious son of a minor nature god and a powerful bard, Varric has inherited a sensitivity to magic. While obviously this endangers him to enemy casters, this does have some benefits, as he is also extra sensitive to positive magic.

As a result, his mom is known as the only one who can catch him, as her magical skills can easily track and capture him.

I can't think of a good name for this roleplay :/ I'm ready to post up the main topic. Anyone have any ideas?

I've done a couple of match making role plays myself and pissed off a fair amount of people because they were the most unconventional pairings as well. So I don't mind being told who my character is paired with. It's the fact that you announced the pairings outright so the players could actually make characters who they feel would fit perfectly together if they really wanted to. Waiting until all the characters were made and then picking pairings based on the actual characters would have done your role play lots more justice and had a little more interesting outcome concerning it.

That being said- are you going to roleplay as his mother as well? I was originally going to roleplay as the parents but you guys can have the choice to be them or not.
