Apparently Alex choke hold the Mayor's son, who went crying to his dad, who then sent the guards to Arrest Alex along with everyone she's associated with.

It's both. His backstory explains how awful he is at not fucking things up for other people, and then he's just generally not lucky. He's great at succeeding with things that would help him out (like staying alive or building things) but if it's for someone else he's not your guy. Now if he were to be in danger would he fail then it's a good time to rely on him, but if he's not the one getting the flack fate's gonna have him fuck up it seems. Maybe he'l come through later in the RP, maybe not. Time will tell.
