Oh, Jin did so love a party.
Parties were so easy to work, it was like being handed money on a plate. Full of distracted people who were full of wine, and even food small enough to sneak into a pocket. This was no different.
She didn't know what the party was for, and she didn't really care. All she knew was that they had money to spare. While working the crowd, plucking coins from drunk pockets, she heard snatches of conversation about pro-bending and Avatars. She was almost sure there was only supposed to be one Avatar, but that could be considered when she was gone, safe and richer.
Jin was wearing a servant's uniform and cap. The cap was tugged down low to hide her deep, dark blue eyes, and the uniform was just loose enough to make her shape anonymous. People like this didn't look at servants. This costume made her effectively invisible, and all because those rich idiots were blind to people who worked for a living. She had plenty of coins tucked into the small pouch around her waist, surrounded by cloth so they didn't jingle. Ah, if only every heist were a party, then she'd be fat and happy. Well, perhaps not fat.
There were still plenty of people who struggled from morning to morning. Even decades after the old Avatar disappeared, the destructive effects of the defense against the Earth Empire remained. There were people who'd lost homes, work, family, their whole lives gone in moments. Some never recovered. It was something that upset Jin, deep in her belly. Wasn't the Avatar supposed to help people? Instead, the people who had lost it all were just forgotten about. Meanwhile the Avatar rubbed elbows with CEOs and princes, Presidents and movie stars, and let people starve. Then she just walked away from it all.
To be honest, Jin couldn't care less if the Avatar never came back. The world was far better off without one.
A commotion outside called the attention of the partygoers. Jin knew she'd stand out once the crowd was focused on something else. It was time to make an exit. She picked up a mostly empty tray, and started moving toward the back.
