Manhattan, New York
May 21, 2027
9:00pm

It was a cool spring night, the rain had fallen earlier that day and the air was perforated with the smell of wet concrete. The sound of the occasional car as it went down the street was soft hiss as the wheels ran through the shallow puddles along the road. Most people were sleeping despite the age old saying about Manhattan. This relatively quiet street for a good while seemed serene that night. That was until a convoy of heavily armored vans and SUVs sped down the street and stopped in front of one house. The riders of the SUVs all wore black suits with ear pieces and black shades. The armored van opened from the rear to release squads of soldiers who looked to be wearing a combination of SWAT and military armor. The men and women in suits stood outside and began to set up a perimeter around the front of the house. The street was closed off and road blocks were put up. The soldiers, once they were given the signal, stormed the home of a family who began to scream shortly after the raid's beginning. In a matter of moments neighbors began to shuffle out of their homes to see what was happening. Their curiosity was rewarded as the entire family of that home was dragged out in handcuffs and made to kneel on the ground.

"David and Evelyn Warren, you've been suspected of harboring a Gifted. As part of the Metahuman Acts of 2021, the Gifted you have harbored is now subject to immediate execution. As punishment for harboring a threat to national security you both are subject to immediate execution unless you provide aid to this investigation", one of the individualsin suits was reading from a file they had on hand. In that file were the names, ages, medical conditions, school attendance, social media accounts, credit card accounts, and much more. The only thing that file did not contain was which family member was the Gifted. The DMA agent spoke again, "Seeing as every family member is here, the only possible aid you can provide to this investigation is telling us which of your three children is the metahuman"

"Go to hell!", the David yelled definitely but received no response from the DMA agent. Evelyn was crying to hard to speak while her children were made to kneel a short ways off from their parents. The children were two boys and a girl with the daughter being the youngest at age eight. The DMA agent, now convinced he'd get nothing more from them, looked over to the soldiers. "Very well then. Alright Corporal, execute them", the corporal and his team moved into position as they stood behind each member of the family with the barrel of their guns pressed at the heads of both parents and the children. David at he last minute cried out, "ITS ME, ITS ME, IM THE ONE! JUST PLEASE LET MY FAMILY GO!".

The DMA agent tilted his head in doubt, "Really? Because it says on your file that you are 42 years old. So unless you were able to hide for that long I doubt you are the metahuman. I'll ask a final time, which one is it?"

There was no reply, David knew his bluff had been called and he hung his head low. He looked to his children, hoping to make them the last thing he saw before death. Unfortunately he changed his face ever so slightly as he looked to his oldest son who was the Gifted. The DMA agent, received a message from his earpiece and motioned for the soldiers to stand down. "You all can go, except the oldest. Men, execute that one then bring the body back to the lab", there was a panic as both the parents and the children struggled to reach each other. David tried to shove his way to his oldest son but with his handcuffs still on he found it hard to get past the soldiers. In the end he could only watch as they executed his son in the middle of the street. Every neighbor witnessed it and fear was in their eyes, not because of what the DMA and the government had done, but because they couldn't believe a Gifted lived so close to them right under their noses.

Manhattan, New York

12:00pm
Present Day

It was sudden like the flicking of a switch. Something so subtle would have a reaction so notable in a matter of hours. At exactly 12 noon every Gifted in the city of Manhattan was sent an anonymous telepathic message to meet in Central Park at 5pm for a Gifted Protest Rally. Such a display was unheard of as all Gifted knew the dangers of being exposed. Despite a number of Gifted not participatig the crowd at the rally was still impressive. There were Gifted among Pro-Gifted human supporters in the park. Many carried signs made that day with some displaying quotes worthy of deep though while others spouted more crude phrases and insults towards the government and the DMA.

The Rally lasted from 5:00pm to 7:45pm, authorities had been called to the scene and closed off the park leaving them to protest. At 7:52pm, both National Guard and DMA vehicles arrived on scene. Most DMA agents were awaiting intel on whetheror not a marked target was among the protesters. The National Guard took a more physical role as they secured the outside perimeter Central Park with portable watchtowers, patrols around the outside of the park, and reinforcin the entrances with bloackade walls. By 8:00pm, the site had been completely secured, no one was getting in or out without the DMA's say so. News reporters had been present since the event's beginning but now they were being sent away. "For your protection, please clear the area. A large scale Gifted control operation is underway", said the DMA representative. Of course the crowd required some "forceful motivation" to clear the area. Once the surrounding area was cleared of civilians the order was given. National Guard soldiers marched into central park and opened fire on both human and gifted protesters. Many fought back but most simply tried to escape. Running to the known entrances all they found was a firing squad waiting for them. Those that attempted to leave by way of climbing the walls would sometimes be unfortunate enough to climb when patrol was passing by. At 8:15pm the area was in chaos. Hundreds fought desperately for survival while others simply collapsed to the ground, chests riddled with bulletholes.

At 12:00pm an anonymous telepathic message was relayed to all Gifted in the city of Manhattan. At 12:00pm a series of events would begin that had the potential to change the course of human history.

Finn watched as Jessica, his best friend, slammed her fist against the brick wall of Lacie's a bar that was owned by a Gifted supporter. The bar, while far from the kind of place Finn would've preferred had he been able to keep his human life, served as a small base for the Conclave to meet, seeing as how the owner was a supporter of their mission. The only rule was that they didn't blow the place to hell. "How the hell did this happen? What kind of telepath is strong enough to do a city wide message? Who the hell sent that out?" she shouted at Finn, running a hand through her blonde hair, trying and failing to tame it. Finn was leaning against a table, biting his fingernails and looking at the floor. "My sister. She does those kind of rallies. What if she went?" he said out loud, to no one in particular. Jessica quickly made her way to him and wrapped him in a hug, the comforting kind that only a friend can give. "Finn, I'm sure Lucy is fine." "I haven't talked to her in months. I should. I need to. I need to tell her to stop taking risks. She's got the triplets to look after." Suddenly Finn looked up and Jessica stepped away. "Okay. That was it. My time to be selfish. Now we think about how to deal with this. How many Conclave members did we lose?" Finn asked. Jessica's face grew somber and she turned away. "Too many. We're losing power as it is but we lost a lot of people. Mary, Lucas, Grace. They were all there and who knows who else. This isn't good for the M.R.F. either. They're broken enough as it is. God damn it!" Jessica slammed her hand against the wall again and looked at the ground. "Finn, how much longer is it going to be like this? When will it end? Good is supposed to win! For god's sake aren't we good?" Jessica asked, her voice cracking as tears began to stream down her face. Finn noted how badly this had hurt her. Jessica was strong but this was too much. He hugged her like she had hugged him and they stayed like that for a while until finally Finn spoke. "We are good. We just have to make the world see that."

Cia was in the bar as well and had seen the entire scene take place. Cia had been trying to keep any gifted she knew from going to the rally through using her own phone, though she was using it via hitting the buttons on it with a Stylus in her mouth. Cia preferred to not use her powers in any kind of public area unless absolutely necessary.

"Who ever sent out that message must of either been stupid or planning to get us all killed." Cia said to the others, it seemed obvious to her that it was some kind of trap. "If that is their plan then we now know another tactic of theres." Cia said trying to find some good out of this situation.

Cia herself had been trying to come up with a plan to fight back, but she could only figure out that the best and most peaceful way was through politics, but that would be hard to do as pro gifted were looked down upon. The second choice she had come up with was assassination of the current president, but she knew that this would only make it worse. It was all the fault of "The Promise Hand" They had to go and make everything worse. Then it hit Cia, what if they could find something so incriminating of Callahan that he would be impeached.

( Screw it, I'm starting in the bar too! )

Wendel, having ran away from home a few hours ago, was now wandering Manhattan. He actually didn't think this through, he'd be easily spotted. After evading everyone on the streets for pretty much a few minutes, he stumbled upon the bar which probably everyone is in. Seeing an opportunity to hide and supposedly get a drink and a meal, he'd slowly enter.

" Is this a place where I can get a meal? " He asked as he approached the counter(?). " Also, maybe a bottle of booze and such? " He didn't sound serious as he said the last one.

Alyona's boots thumped against the ground as she walked through the cold night air. The news of the Gifted rally gone south had reached Alyona as quickly as it had happened, very few people within her mob knew of her gifted status but the ones that did she trusted with her life. She needed a drink to put it straight. When she got bad news she drank, and when she drank bad things usually happened. She didn't care though. She could hold her liqour quite well and it took quite a bit to get her drunk. Nevertheless, knowing herself she expected to have to be carried home by the two goons that followed her.

She sunk down into her pink scarf that hung loosely on her neck, pulling it up over her nose to protect her from the cold. Her hands were stuffed into her jacket and she could feel the metal of the gun that was strapped to the inside of said jacket. Her eyes darted left and right, an old homeless guy was puking up his dinner in an alleyway and a couple eagerly led one another home after a first date on opposite ends of the street. Alyona's brow furrowed, they were obviously blissfully unaware of the recent shooting, that or they didn't care. Alyona wished she could have been the same.

Eventually she found herself entering a pub by the name of 'Lacie's Bar'. The two goons following a short distance back took a seat at a booth in the corner of the room while Alyona headed to the bar to order a drink for herself. She glanced to her left, some small fat child had made his way into the bar and was seemingly ordering drinks. Alyona stifled a laugh as she pulled her scarf down to her neck. It was quite a sight to see. She turned back to the bartender.
"Just a budweiser" She spoke, her heavy accent coming through. The bartender nodded, pouring the drink and handing it to her, in exchange she, of course, paid him. She took her drink and sat away from her goons. Her mind drifted back to the telepathic message she had received. Whoever sent it must have been exceptionally powerful. She had noticed quite a few gifted as she had walked in. The bar was known to be a gifted save haven and she had made sure to bring two, low level gifted goons with her just in case anyone happened to be talking about the event but the couple behind her were practically screaming about it. She took a drink of her beer, taking off her jacket to reveal her black t-shirt. She turned to the two before speaking.
"What happened tonight, was planned. Callahan probably had people on the inside for months." She spoke.
"I'd advise you not to speak so loudly, friends, anyone could be listening." Her eyes glanced to the door and then back to the two.

Wendel thought about... maybe sitting next to someone, or near someone to have some light conversation? Well, as long as he had a drink he was fine. " Anything I could... drink? " He said to the bartender, hoping his charm would win him/her over. But alas, his young age didn't let him buy alcholic beverages, so he had to settle with a milkshake. He obviously paid for it. He looked around a bit, trying to decide where to sit, and who to supposedly have light conversation with.

After looking around for pretty much 10 seconds, he decided to try to have a seat with someone. He slowly approached Cia, asking: " Can I... ermm... Sit beside you? " He asked, smiling awkwardly as he held the milkshake with two hands. ( Am I doing this right? )

Washington, D.C.

8:30pm

President Steven Callahan sat in The Oval Office, a look of focus on his face as he sat there with his hands clasped together. The office was eerily silent for a long time before a young man stormed into the room, "Forgive me sir but I have news from Manhattan. They did it sir, the operation was a success". Callahan's face began to show signs of minor satisfaction but only for a moment before he broke his stare on the other end of the room to focus on his assistant. "Details. If it was a complete success you would have said you, would you not?", Callahan's stare was notorious as it gave a feeling of dread to whomever he looked upon. His assistant swallowed nervously before answering, "Well sir we didn't get them all but our men in the field report that 82% of the rally participants were eliminated". Callahan got up from his desk to stand at the window behind him. Staring outside one could only guess at what was going through his head, whatever it was caused him to let out a single chuckle which made him sound more disgraced than pleased with the mission's results. "And of the abomination? The one who transmitted the message? Where is she?", Callahan asked his assistant without turning from the window.

"I-uh-I believe she is still being kept under DMA watch"

Callahan continued to stare out of the window for what felt like an agonizing eternity to his assistant. Finally the silence was broken, "How soon can we broadcast nationally?"

"I figured you'd want to do that, I had the camera crew on standby since noon"

"Good, it's time I address this country..", Callahan moved away from the window and exited his office. His walk was that of a man who meant business and dealt it out with ruthless proficiency. A short walk to the set and he was there, standing at his podium. The President adjusted his tie, fixed his suit jacket and prepared to speak. He had no script, he didn't need one for Callahan was known for his impressive impromptu speeches. The camera man gave Callahan a countdown and in 3...2...1 The President of The United States of America was on every tv and every radio station in the country. Friends and families gathered around their TV's and radios to hear their presidents inspiring words.

"Citizens of The United States of America, tonight I greet you not only as your leader in these dark times. But as a brother, a fellow American who has suffered just as you have during these trying times. Tonight we have achieved something that has not been done since the early years of this war. At 7:52pm a joint task force comprised of National Guard soldiers and Department of Metahuman Affairs agents performed an assault on a metahuman rally in Manhattan, New York. The battle took place in Central park and lasted for approximately thirty-eight minutes. Thanks to the swift execution of this assault by numerous highly skilled individuals there were no civilian casualties. Our sources in the field have reported that eighty-two percent of the terrorists have been eliminated. Despite these impressive results, the job is not complete. Not for those brave men and women who fought for our safety and it certainly is not complete for us. Eighteen percent of the terrorists have escaped, no doubt they have scattered and are now looking for safe haven. I urge every citizen of this great country, our brothers and sisters in Manhattan especially, to be ever vigilant now more than ever. Any and all metahuman activity is to be reported to your local authorities. I understand many of you may have family or a friend who has turned, it may be hard but you must understand...they are no longer human. They may tell you they mean no harm but that is a lie. Our very survival as a species, let alone as a nation, relies on your ability to be a law abiding citizen and turning those terrorists in. For many it is too soon to recount the events we witness as a result of 'The Promise Hand' but it is that very raw wound that we bear which will give us the strength to fight for not only our survival but for our children survival and their children. As an added precaution, the Department of Metahuman Affairs will be deploying undercover operatives to assist the citizens of New York in their search for these terrorists. I know you all will do what is right in the coming days and remember; United We Stand, United We Conquer", Callahan gave his famous stare into the camera before the footage cut off and regular programming was returned.

Cia turned her attention to the TV before she did to the boy. "I guess it's time to lay low then." She said before turning to the boy who wanted to sit next to her. Cia's eyes lit up as she saw the milkshake in her hand. One thing that Cia adored was sweet things like milkshakes. "Oh my gosh! Of course you can you cutie! Just give me a taste of your milk shake!" Cia said in excitement. If Cia could she would be flapping her arms up and down, but due to her lack of arms it was impossible to do. Deep down Cia was truely like a child. Though before that she was exetremely protective of her own kind, and only wanted to survival of everyone.

Wendel, in the most awkward way possible, smiled back. He sat beside her, offering her a sip from his drink. " So... What's been happening around here? " He asked, obviously uninformed of pretty much everything. He also looked pretty sleepy, and tired.

The milkshake, by the way, was just a milkshake mixed with chocolate. Nothing really special.

Terrorists. The word was a lightning rod, a tool used by the powerful to trick idiots into doing their bidding. Don't like someone? Just call them a terrorist! Before long, they'll find an angry mob on their doorstep.

Eva sighed, silencing the president with the press of a button. As the light of the TV dispersed, leaving her in wonderful darkness, she glanced around the room. Old fashioned furniture was laid out along the walls, and photos of an old couple with some kids - presumably their grandchildren - stood atop the mantlepiece. The old lady who had once lived here had died about a week ago now. Natural causes, of course. Eva was not foolish enough to kill people just for somewhere to stay. But why not take advantage of the cozy home left behind by a poor old widow?

As she idly scanned her surroundings - she could never be too careful of intruders - Eva's thoughts turned to the massacre that had occurred so recently, and to the message that had followed in its wake. Anyone who had attended the rally was an utter moron. It couldn't have been more obvious how such a gathering would end. Whoever had set it up... that person was either an enemy of the Gifted cause or criminally stupid.

Eva shook her head, as if to dispel the thought. Such speculation was pointless.

Eva crawled to the opposite end of the couched and pulled the spare blanket she had found over herself. She would be sleeping on the couch, of course; the old lady was still occupying her bed. Before too long, someone was bound to come along and check on her. If that happened too soon, there would be only one way to end the matter. It wouldn't be the first time Eva had killed.

But for the night, she should be safe. It was far too late for anyone to pay a visit, and the knife waiting on the coffee table next to the couch was a great comfort. Perhaps it would continue to be. Perhaps such methods could achieve more than childish pleas for fair treatment.

Terrorists. If that was what President Callahan wanted... why not?

Cia smiled at the offer and took a rather large sip from the glass. Anyone who knew her would know that if she was offered something she would take the most out of whatever it was. "Well the knew's is sad but you are cute!" Cia said with a smile as moved closer to the boy. Cia couldn't help that she found children so cute. Cia's sweater arm seemed to float around the boys shoulder at this point. The action looked more like she had just swung around her sleeve through kinetic energy. She was using a minor bit of her power in truth, though not enough to be noticed. "I'm Cia by the way! What's your name?" She asked wanting to find out his name.

Ever since I was a little kid I have liked central park. Now I have a reason not to. I have seen a lot of things for my age but nothing as horrid as this. i could feel the blood of the body that was on top of me creeping down my face. I had to scan the area and escape. Still hearing gunshots and screaming I was immediately filled with rage intently ready to crack all the D.M.A's skulls. However with the wounds I sustained I won't be able to do anything but inch my way out. I can’t use my powers either unless I want to get caught.
How stupid was I to believe that the DMA would play fairly. Granted they haven’t done something on this massive of a scale. The DMA are going to pay for this.
Ok. how am I going to get out of this? There are only a few solders in my area and there is an alleyway I could probably get to. I’m going to have to stay close to the bodies and remain low. The soldiers are never thorough and always leave the rest to the cleanup crew.
I had reached the ally and laid there for some time until I felt a searing pain in my right leg. The adrenaline must’ve put a dampener on this. I’m going to have to cauterize the wound. I have done this many time before and always keep my flint and strike on hand just in case.
Just a few inches away I could see another gifted crawling to get away from this but the DMA had caught her and slit her throat. Dread filled me as I looked upon the innumerable dead. And I couldn’t save them.

Wendel scratched his head as he slighty blushed. It's his first time actually talking to a girl. " I-I'm Wendel. C-Cia s-sounds like a nice name. " He felt awkward saying that. " Wh-what happened to your arms? " He noticed Cia's lack of limbs. He certainly looked like he was quite intrigued on that certain subject.

He also drank a bit of the milkshake, too. It tasted pretty good.

Cia smiled at the boy as she got closer to him sort of rubbing on him at this point. She thought it was amusing that he was flustered by him. Cia was honestly used to the question about her limbs it was quite common after all for others to question her lack of limbs. She decided that she would poke some fun at this though. "Well when I was little I had been thrown off a bus and then had some wolves fight over me and rip my arms off. I then walked for about four days after bandaging my own arms with just my bare teeth. Then I finally got back to civilization where I saved a whole town from a gang that had taken it over." Cia said trying to make up a story that would shock the kid for at least a bit until he realized that she was just poking fun at him.

"...United We Stand, United We Conquer", the transmission cut off on the radio replacing the voice of Callahan with music from another time. Cole sat in the driver's seat of his black, four-door, muscle car in silence. "It's happening again isn't it..", he thought to himself while gripping the steering wheel. "He broke us before and now Callahan is trying to finish the job..", the veins in Cole's hands turned black as his anger grew but before he did anything really rash Cole noticed someone laying in the nearbty alleyway ahead of him. "A survivor...should take him to Lacie's". Cole turned the ignition and drove forward and close enough to the alley to cover the survivor. Cole reach across the car to open the passenger door before calling out to him, "Hurry up and get in".

Arriving in a flashy muscle car another person saw me in an alleyway. My heart was beating out of my chest to try and decipher if it was friend or foe then he said.
"Hurry up and get in".
There was no time to find out his intentions, any offer of help was appreciated and I was in no position to argue. The searing pain of the cauterized wound hadn’t mattered as I gained as much energy as I could and ran to get into the car.

Wendel just sat there, slightly confused. " The fuck? " He thought to himself as he listened to Cia as he finished his milkshake. He slightly laughed at the story, though. He still didn't get an answer to what was the latest news or whatever. " So, is there anything... else interesting? " He said as he slightly leaned away, giving a bit of space between each other. " Also, I don't think your story's true, " he said as he finished his milkshake. ( Damn, I'm posting too fast, am I? )

As soon as 'Tali was in the car Cole sped off and away from central park. Along the way it was clear a good amount of gifted survived the initial attack. That didn't mean everything was okay however as the survivors, the ones who hadn't fled to shelter, rioted in the streets. The National Guard and the DMA had been dispersed across the island to deal with them. Coke flicked on the radio to the news station, news of the riots had already reached the media and the government issued a warning for citizens to remain indoors until the next morning. "They want as few civilians off the street when they comb it for gifted. Tomorrow will probably be the home searches".

Arriving at Lacie's, Cole carried 'Tali out of the car with an arm around his neck. Seeing as his hands weren't free his only option was to kick the door open. Most of the bar patrons were Gifted but seeing as he wasn't sure which were humans he didn't take a chance and say this guy was gifted. The owner of the bar, Lacie herself, was there that night watching the news for updates on the Rally Massacre. "Lacie, could use some help, this guy got hit pretty bad. Guy says DMA misfired and shot him tryin to take down a meta". Lacie had one of bar's security carry 'Tali into the backroom. Once his rescue was out of sight in the backrooms Cole took a moment to look at the mess his new friend made. Blood all over his new shirt. While it was a pain he couldn't blame the guy. Lacie looked to Cole with a worried look before saying, "Need anything Cole? New clothes?".

"Save 'em, they need it more than me", fortunately Cole was wearing a black tee so the blood could only be felt as it soaked his shirt but not seen for now. "You know what, lemme get the usual...a lot of people died today", Lacie only took a moment to bring Cole the usual, Grey Goose vodka...the entire bottle.

"Since when have you needed a reason to drink yourself stupid?"

"Since when do you leave the counter to interrogate me?", Cole replied. He didn't mean to sound harsh and Lacie knew it. He just had that way about him.

"Since you walked in with a bleeding gifted and drinking to people's memory, besides Vince can cover for me...don't do anything stupid Cole, the DMA is already putting pressure on the city"

"Pretty soon Manhattan is going to be 'Meta-Free', that's how they put it on the news right? I swear it's Haven all over again", Cole opened the bottle of vodka and poured himself a glass. Lacie just sat there staring down at the table. "Maybe you should get out of town, at least till things calm down here. Hell maybe we all need to clear out"

"Fuck that. I'll die when I'm ready, till then they can keep looking for me", Cole downed his glass before laying it on the table. Lacie sighed before getting up from their table, "Take care Cole, if you need a ride when you finish that I'll be here"

"Thanks Lacie"

"And pay your damn tab already!", Lacie headed back to the bartender's counter leaving a chuckling Cole alone at his booth.

(sorry I'm late :( )@TheDarkTemplar @Inertia

Theo just got a beep in her ear and she jumped. She clicked the button and listened to the message. She whispered to herself "the central park, I've never been there, how am I going to find my way?" She sighed and jumped down from the tree. "Well better start looking now", she thought to herself. She walked through the trees in amazement she had never seen something so beautiful. She was so amazed that she walked straight in front of a car. The car honked and she fell over. She just noticed the central park and there was heaps of people there. She heard heaps of cars honking and a man yelled "hey if you don't get up now I'm running you over". "Hey I can't get up I've broken my leg", she cried.

She tried yelling for help from anybody as she sobbed on the road. Maybe she shouldn't of tried to escape maybe thats why they kept her there because she wasn't ready for this, she thought to herself. She saw a guy that was older than her with a beanie on and tried motioning him over to help, she tried not to look weak. (Seth)
