Even if Vivian tried to get rid of the necklace, it would probably just come back. But... it was worth a try, wasn't it?

I crawled over to the corner, picked up the necklace by its chain. A sudden feeling of foreboding struck me; if I gave the necklace to Vivian, would she become the owner? If so, she would suffer... and what would happen to me?

I shook my head, then carefully said, "You can get rid of this, but it's still my necklace. I don't want to give it to you. It will ruin your life if I do..." Despite the fact that my niece was taking a sterner tone with me, I didn't want to make her suffer as I had...

Once Vivian - and the necklace - were gone, I hesitantly took off my clothing and made my way into the bathroom. The shower didn't look built for comfort, not in the least. Nonetheless, I made my way into it, turning on the water. At first, it was cold, so much so that it gave my skin goosebumps. I sighed. I was going to make this fast.

After thoroughly washing, with emphasis on taking care of my hair, I put on the miserable clothing Vivian had left for me and glumly sat down. When would Mother be here to talk to me? I needed to make her understand... keeping me locked up with not going to fix anything! In fact, it would only make me have dreams of my past, dreams that would make me want to die all the more!

I laid down, closing my eyes yet not even close to tired enough to actually sleep. With my necklace out of the picture - though I doubted it would stay that way - the whole situation was quite dull.

Vivian came back to retrieve your used linen and left a pillow. She was specifically told to retrieve the key to the water faucets as well. "Thanks, you can do this. I will see you in the morning. After that you will see your mom." She didn't look at you until she stopped talking. Vivian's eyes looked concerned. She broke eye contact and closed the door behind her.

You slept when you awoke you felt hungry no bad dreams. You had no dreams at all. You feel somewhat rested and glad you could sleep outside the jacket again. The dinner was drugged again your limbs felt heavy, standing was not an option. The door opened and Vivian was there with a choice of clothes to wear. "I wasn't sure what you wanted to wear today. I hope you like at least one of them. I wasn't able to get any hair pins or sharp stuff for some reason they woudn't give me a bra for you since it had an under wire. And no shoes, so I got these sandals from your closet. If things go well with your mom she said after the family wake you could come out part of the day. Good luck, I'll go get your mom." Vivian held up her hand and crossed her fingers. The door closed behind her. A few moments later the door opened and it was your mother. She was in an expensive outfit easily over twenty grand. Her eyes looked like she hadn't slept in days.

Once Vivian had laid out some outfits before me, I selected a pair of shorts and a t-shirt - there was scarcely any point in dressing up while I was imprisoned. I ignored the sandals - they were of no use to me while I was effectively inside a padded cell. Changing was a hassle; I felt far too weak to stand, so I had to dress myself while sitting. I took a deep breath, anticipating Mother's arrival. Surely she could be made to see reason!

When she arrived, clothed in an obscenely expensive looking outfit, I sat up just a little bit straighter. It seemed as though my fate were in her hands.

"Mother, listen," I began, eyes on the floor. "The incident with the knife - I was really stressed, I was feeling overwhelmed by my new position and all the duties that it entails. All of that brought back... bad memories." She would know what I was referring to, of course. "But now that I've been made to relax for a while, I am feeling much better. Please let me out of this room! Being confined in here makes me very uncomfortable." Heat was rushing to my cheeks; I had spoken very little to others about anything that related to my kidnapping in any way. "You can even have someone supervise me, to make sure I don't do anything rash - I don't mind! But I'll never recover if I just stay cooped up in here!"

I looked up, my eyes meeting Mother's. If she didn't let me leave, I didn't know what I was going to do with myself!

"I'm sorry dear. After your fathers wake and all that then I'll let you out. There are just too many important people that will be here and I very well cant have you stabbing them. I may introduce some of them to you here if you are good from now on. You remember Uncle Thorton? He was always so happy when he saw you. That was when you were twelve, imagine how he will react when he sees you now. All grown up, practically a woman. I'm sure the two of you will have lots to talk about. The doctors say you have to be monitored for a few months first anyway. After what I had to pay for your recovery you should thank me. I would be so lost without my little angle. Its better I keep you safe like this for your own good. Besides Vivian said you've grown rather fond of her. OH Eva I do hate to see you sad. I'll make sure the cook adds a little bit more of your meds to the food." She never looked at you once. "We will get through this. Be strong, mommy loves you." She knocked on the door and it opened. You tired to beg but it was too late she left. A few minutes later Vivian came back. She looked sad and wore a fake smile.

"How did it go?" Her voice was quiet, She tries to look at you indirectly.

I was seething, but was too weak to stand. I had no outlet for my fury. For the few minutes I sat there, alone in my cell, imprisoned by my own mother, my mind worked frantically, desperately trying to find a means of escape. But I had only one idea.

Then Vivian arrived. "That bitch wouldn't even look at me," I hissed in response to her question. "Vivian, bring me my necklace back. Please. I need to use it, one last time. To kill her, and anyone one who tries to keep me locked up." This would be a test for Vivian. If she truly cared about me, she would never abandon me to this fate. I wouldn't be able to eat anymore, not after what Mother had said about adding more meds to my meals, so I would die if I didn't escape.

I sat with my arms wrapped around my legs, chin resting on my knees. I looked up at Vivian, my eyes pleading. If she didn't help me escape now, then I could end up locked away for months or even years. I would rather die than allow that to happen!

"You just said the necklace was evil. You said to hide it. Well, it is yours Eva." She pulled it out of her pocket. "I haven't had time to find a good spot to stash it anyway." The gem faintly glowed. As if to let you know it was right. You unclasped it and put it around your neck. As soon as it rested back on your chest you sighed. Not sure if you did that of your own will or not. Either way A wave of calm came over you. The thought formed in your mind. You could see Vivian waving a hand in your face and her leaving the room. Before the door closed your reflection walked in. She tilted her head to the side and smiled at you. "Welcome home Eva." She giggled.... You slumped to the side and fell asleep.

You dreamed, you saw your mother asleep and a empty glass on the floor next to her bed. You vision moved to the night stand where you saw a bottle of sleep aid. Your vision moved to you hovering over her. You heard a giggle. As hands went over her mouth and nose you heard the giggle again. She never fought back. You heard her heart beat quicken it got faster then after a few single beats. Her heart stopped. You heard more giggling....

When I woke up, I was in my cell.

I pulled off the necklace and placed it in the corner. I needed to talk to Vivian, and soon, but all I could do was wait for her to arrive. For now, it would have to be enough. It was in my best interest to remain locked up a little while longer, after all.

I could only assume my dream had been reality, and that Mother was dead. The police would be alerted, of course - that's why I had to stay in my cell for a while. My imprisonment was a perfect alibi! However, once everything had been cleared up, I should be in control - the money was mine, after all, that that leech was no longer around to usurp it. I would be patient - all I had to do now was sit still. Hopefully... hopefully the necklace would not speak to me again...

As the day light came you heard sirens and saw the whole ordeal from your room window. It was when the sun was at the noon location when finally the door opened. It was the team leader. He had a tazer at his side. "Sorry to keep you waiting. I am required to tell you that if you come close I will not hesitate to leave you twitching in a puddle of urine. So lets keep this pleasant." As you pushed yourself into the corner he set the plastic tray in the opposite corner. He kept his eyes on you and his back to the wall. "Well bad news just seems to follow you. your mom passed in the night I'm not able to give you the official report but the room she was in showed alcohol and sleeping pills that were prescribed to her. The bottle specifically states not to mix the drug with liquor. I'm sure judging from her state after flying that it could just be the other drugs in her and the cabin pressure acting as a hyperbolic chamber. She could of died from an air embolism that finally reached her head."

"So now we do the legal waiting game to see who the lucky person gets you until your 21. In the mean time we will continue your treatment. Which means you stay in lock down 24/7. I'm going to allow you to be out of the jacket until you give me a reason." Vivian will take care of your needs. I'm going to have your dinner drugged so you can be safely moved and a button installed. The button signal will be sent to a pager that Vivian will have on her." I am sorry to the lateness of breakfast, I had the cook redo it so it is fresh and warm. There is a water bottle in the tray. You will be checked on 8am 12am and 8pm. If you be have more liberties will be given. I will receive weekly updates from Vivian." He left the room after giving you a look of confusion.

What the hell? I was old enough to take care of myself - I didn't need a guardian!

I crawled over to my breakfast and ate sullenly. Mother's death had meant nothing; I was still being imprisoned! It was too soon to kill off the Team Leader, or whoever would be next in line to keep me locked up - I was afraid of the necklace's wrath, and besides, it would be incredibly suspicious.

I needed Vivian - and perhaps a television. Something to occupy myself while I remained imprisoned! For some reason, I doubted Vivian would simply consent to release me, so I was going to have to return the necklace to her. I didn't want it to linger in my cell and bother me. I was going insane from the sheer boredom and isolation more than quickly enough without its help!

I laid flat on my back, limbs outstretched, and sighed. Why wouldn't anyone just let me go?

After what felt like a few hours Vivian returned to get your tray and check up on you. She rolled her eyes and took back the necklace. She also brought you the news paper and some shower supplies. "I'm not going to lie, the fact that both your parents died so soon after you got this thing. Well it has me thinking. Could you tell me more about the things it does for you?" Her head tilted to the side and she still held it in her hand. Her eyes reflected the green.

I had already shared a lot of information with Vivian. It probably wouldn't hurt me to share more...

"Well, basically, when I ask it to kill someone, it does... usually. But in return, it hurts me. A lot. Apparently, its owner is doomed to suffer." I crawled over to my tray and began eating. "I doubt it will work for anyone other than me. It's something that can only be inherited, I think. Sometimes, the image of Grandmother appears before me, talks to me... threatens me." I shook my head. "It's really quite terrifying."

I bit my lip, choosing my next words carefully. "Vivian, being locked in here makes me more depressed than ever. If this keeps up, I'm bound to try to hurt myself before long. Please, help me escape! You're... the only one I can turn to." I kept my eyes on my tray, ashamed of my weakness. Once again, I had resorted to begging my niece. Why was I so pathetic? Why couldn't I do anything without help?

"Well you have been improving. The guard is at 16 and the system is security is finished but until the will is read tomorrow the guard still has a legal contract to protect you. I will insist that you get some fresh air and be let out. Oh your dads cause of death was filed and the cause was heart failure. The family wake has been postponed so they could be buried together." She bit her lower lip.

"I will keep the necklace safe. You can count on me. I will go and get dinner ready while you freshen up. Its going to have the medicine so please eat it and I will see you tomorrow with breakfast. Hopefully with some good news too." As Vivian leaves she stopped and waved at you.

With a sigh, I thanked Vivian for her help. Hopefully, she would be able to convince my guards to at least let me out of this stupid room for a while tomorrow.

After taking a long shower, making sure to clean myself as thoroughly as possible before leaving my cell, I sat down in one of the corners of my prison, leaning against its padded walls. The newspaper Vivian brought me was incredibly boring; I didn't care one whit about all the crimes that had been committed and politicians who had made their banal little announcements and speeches. Before long, I found myself sitting with my arms wrapped around my legs, chin resting on my knees, waiting for my medication-filled dinner to arrive. It took all my self restraint to resist the urge to try to slice my wrist open, but I knew I would never be allowed to bleed to death, and if I tried, my imprisonment would merely be prolonged.

I hadn't done anything to deserve this sort of treatment!

The dinner was mashed potatoes and creamed corn. The main course was beef wellington sliced into very small chunks to the point it was obvious you could use a straw to eat this whole meal. The cook did a very good job hiding the medication both in detection and in taste. The room was emptied of old clothes the dinner tray and everything but the pillow. It didn't take long for the drugs to take effect. You awoke the next day to breakfast already in the corner and a some bottled orange juice with a spoon on the side for the food. your legs didn't feel as heavy and as you moved the vertigo was gone. Vivian noticed you moving. "Yea I bribed the cook to drop some of the drugs they put in your food. The only thing in the eggs this time is a little pepper. I talked to the guard and he said that the system and extra guards makes this place the most secure place it was his privilege to guard." She said the last part trying to deepen her voice. She was smiling.

"Well I got to go and give my first week report. I'll have you free of this room no later then breakfast Monday. Most of the doors will be locked and the guards will be the only ones with the keys. I'm sure that wont matter compared to being locked in here. They let me set up a room with your clothes and some books. They said no tech or phone, and no chemicals. So they replaced your soaps with baby shampoo. Oh Mondays today! Surprise!!"

I stopped eating my breakfast as Vivian announced her surprise.

"So... can I leave this room now?" I asked, eyes wide. I didn't like the idea of being banned from using technology and soap. but at the very least, I wanted to be able to walk around again! I quickly continued to eat my meal, perhaps eating too quickly. Who could blame me? I didn't even know how long I had been cooped up in this room!

I crawled over to one side of the cell and, using a wall for support, pulled myself to my feet. I was wearing a pair of shorts and a tanktop - comfy clothing of the sort I didn't normally get to lounge around in. However, that outfit would be good enough for walking around the house.

"Um, Vivian, I have walked in a while," I said awkwardly, my cheeks growing warm. I held out a hand for her to take, "Do you think you could help me for a little while?"

"Sure you can leave. The lack of walking since the hospital will do that. I brought some crutches to help out." Vivian opened the door. You could smell the wood furniture and the dusty hall carpet. "I can show you the room that will remain unlocked for your personal use. The kitchen will be off limits and a deal breaker as the guard leader said. Other then that the whole mansion is yours. The TV in the lounge is the only electronic allowed for now. I had them add every package for your release day. Its like 300$ a month but I figured you would need it to stay mellow."

"Now for the major deal breakers in addition to the kitchen." Vivian talked while you got out of the safe room. "Getting caught outside, trying to hurt yourself, setting a fire, or destroying property. Other then that, you can do what you want. Where are we going today?" She smiled at you.

"Let's go watch TV!" I said, using the crutches to steady myself as I walked.

As I made my way to the lounge, my pace was slow, and I found myself becoming exhausted at a surprisingly fast pace. My time being locked up and left me really out of shape!

Every now and then, I saw a man standing around, apparently on the lookout. One of my guards, I could only assume. Their presence made me feel uneasy, but I had no intention of doing anything to upset them, not when the result would be more miserable weeks in total captivity.

Once I had arrived at the couch, I pulled my legs up onto my seat and curled into a ball. It felt so nice to have something soft to rest on, something less depressing than the floor of a padded cell! I found the remote control sitting on a table next to the couch and began navigating through the channels. Lots of boring news, cartoons, sitcoms - all of these things were astoundingly interesting compared to my previous situation. However, the channel I stopped on was showing horror movies.

I frowned, a bit concerned by my desire to watch such things. Had the necklace changed my nature, made it permanently more violent? Previously, I had been quite cowardly, too afraid to even think about ghosts and serial killers, yet now I sought out media portraying those things! Something had to be wrong with me...

The day was better then it had been in a while and the night was even better the bed was so comfortable and was the cherry on the ice cream sundae which you ate with a spoon along with a dinner you could chew.

The drugs were leaving your system. You could feel yourself getting a little sick but nothing terrible. You fell asleep for the first time on your own.

You awoke as the sun was obscured by storm clouds to the sound of thunder. Vivian knocked on the door inviting you to breakfast. She mentioned something about omelets. You could hear her walk off to the dinning room. The bed complete relaxed you. It was comfort incarnate.
